A story about a boy who loses a cherished possession and all his misguided attempts to get it out of the tree where it's stuck. Humorous, funny. Children will laugh at all the things the boy does WRONG (or in ways he uses tools in ways not intended). And like all Jeffers, a little bittersweet takeaway. Nothing is sugary for Jeffers.

While I read this book for our children (ages 5 and 3), I bought a second copy to give to a friend who was having a particularly hard problem with a particularly stubborn person. And as we noted, the boy DOES get his kite back - but at a great cost to all those around him.

I own a preschool, and this book delights children from 2 thru 9...and the staff absolutely LOVE reading it. It's great fun watching which children anticipate what will happen and then get caught in the joke. I highly recommend ALL of Jeffers books.

Absolutely love this book! If you have a kiddo that is resourceful but forgetful, you will think this book was written about him! Great book, simple but great illustrations. I plan to buy more copies as gifts...

Fun, absurd, laugh-out-loud silliness. My kid still requests this book a few times a week, and it's been on our shelf for ages. He can't get enough, and the illustrations are fantastic. Lovely little sub-plots and surprises are slipped in there as well...any other readers notice the penguin and the rocket ship on the last page? Editorial mistake, perhaps, but lovely none-the-less (and I suspect it's on purpose...Jeffers tends to reference his other works in little cameos here and there...)

I've already read a couple Oliver Jeffers books, but this one is my favorite by far. Basically, Floyd's kite gets stuck in the tree, and he throws various items up to try to get it down. I got it for my cousin's kids (4 and 7), but my cousin and I were cracking up reading it!

Here's a link to Oliver Jeffers reading it:[...]

Great book for children and for the adults reading with them. I bought this book for my 22 month-old son and we have had a great time reading it. At the level that he understands it at his age the story is simple yet really fun, wiht really engaging drawings --there is a whale stuck on the tree!!!-- which leads to many conversations. For the adult, th unexpected turns and absurd situations and the humor throughout will only make your experience better. This is a book that I can see us reading for a long time! Great pick!

Whether my great-granddaughter will like it or not remains to be seen, but I certainly don't. The drawings are crude and the text contains a number or words I doubt are in a young child"s vocabulary. Not a book I would enjoy reading to a child.

We purchased this because there are several other books by this author that we love, but this one was just ok. Our kids loved it the first time through, but then were not interested in reading it again...

Stuck is a delightful little pattern book that kids will love. While the premise is whimsical, as each item thrown into the tree to knock down the others that are already stuck, kids giggle and picture this actually happening. It's fun to stop and ask them what might be the next item that will get "stuck" in the tree. Read for pure pleasure the first time, but after that, only your imagination holds you back from all the fun things you can do with this book.

Could not stop laughing when I first read this to my kiddo. Love the illustrations and the handwritten font. I worry that it will be hard for kids to read on their own though since the typeface is not the easiest on the eyes.

This book is everything promised by the other reviewers. Oliver Jeffers is a genius author with real insight into a childs mind and wonderful story-telling ability full of wit and humor. We're buying more of his books for sure.

I was ordering some books for use in my preschool classroom and Stuck came up as a book with good recommendations. I was spending off a gift certificate and after some research decided to order it on an impulse as a treat to myself. It is a nice quality book, simple matte illustrations, and aesthetically pleasing. The font is part cursive/ part print and is a bit difficult for my seven year old daughter to read which is unfortunate for motivated readers and my preschool students who might want to find familiar letters or words in the text. The story was cute and pretty imaginative- just missing a real hook to keep me laughing. It's the end of the school year so I no longer have classes full of children to read to, maybe I'll have a different opinion about this book after I have a receptive audience. I'll add to this review in the fall if this is the case, but as a teacher of 25 years this book doesn't live up to some of the other read-a-loud books that I work with on a regular basis.
**Update
After reading this book to groups of children from pre-k to third grade I have decided that this is a very funny read-out-loud book indeed. One class of students were inspired to create their own "Stuck" story and we ended up making a huge "Stuck" tree in our classroom and hanging drawings of our "Stuck" items from it. It's always a fun book to bring out with a new group, the laughing starts on the third page and just gets louder until the surprise ending! The font remained a bit of an issue for early reading preschoolers, it just wasn't similar enough for most of them to decode- but it wasn't generally an issue since the book is such a great group time read.

My children enjoy this book and laugh when we read it. We talk about what Floyd could do instead of throwing everything in the tree. I was a little disappointed with the ending and would have liked it a bit better if Floyd would have found a solution to getting everything back out of the tree.
