The book stops, incomplete. I cannot recommend this book. If I had known that this book just stopped, mid story, mid plot, nothing resolved, I would have never purchased it.

I want my money back.

I hate being preached at. I appreciate the author trying to create a multi-layered no win situation. This was terrible. The timelines of various characters did not align, many characters were in multiple places at the same time. Trying to apply a layer of mystery over a layer of drama over a layer of politics on top of characters who are supposed to be busy being trained to be (the equivalent of) polymath quantum nuclear rocket scientist reality warping engineers. The deus ex machina required to make the plot even pretend to work is eye-bleedingly obvious and unbelievable. The MC agrees with me.

A thoroughly enjoyable read. I've actually been through it twice in the week since it's been published.

Arthur C. Clarke once said that any sufficiently advanced technology would be indistinguishable from magic. What Christopher Nuttall accomplishes in this book is walk you through the premise that even with magic, or technology (or both), there are problems and situations that only we humans can create, and that only an individual's thoughtful and determined willpower and loyalty can overcome, regardless of how powerful our tools may be.

All this while keeping you on the edge of your seat, waiting to see what happens next. This is one of those rare series where the books keep getting better the further along the story goes. Enjoy!

I will never understand why authors do this they have to know it ROYALY PISSES off their readers. At least the first time he did this he warned us in the Burb ahead of time but that one wasn't half as bad as this. I can only shake my head in disgust at this one.

Dear Christopher, although I have enjoyed this series very much you have gone too far using the F word way too much and sexual innuendo, if not, outright filth. So you have lost much esteem in my eyes. It is really to bad that you felt you had to degrade yourself to sell books. I used to recommend your books to anyone interested in reading great story but now I am only recommending this book for adults only.

Emily gets to be the head girl (aka Magic Student Council president) which is of course a nightmare for both her and the Whitehall headmaster. Add to it her protégée sliding towards homicidal maniac status and her hands are full even before normal school stuff like being single again and trying to pass her exams. The book maintains the overall series high quality, but it is effectively part 1 of the full story arc, so you need the next novel Graduation Day to actually see the setup from this book play out.
