Every home with a child should have this book. We love to point out the little details, such as the Ernie toy in the cage of one animal. When we get to the climax, as the zookeeper's wife wakes up to the sound of the animals in her bedroom, an energetic "Uh-oh!!!" usually gets participation from the child being read to by the second reading. We like the board book format best -- stands up to lots of travel and use. A great little gift.

A favorite of my little 2 year old bookworm. When we first bought it, I read it to him, now he "reads" it to me (which I love!) Not a lot of words on the pages, but enough things happen on each page and as the story progresses that my son likes to narrate it to me.

I can't imagine anyone (child or adult) not loving this book! Darling illustrations, gentle humor, few words but new things to be charmed by with every reading. Our first Peggy Rathmann book -- we quickly bought her other books as well for ourselves and as gifts. Thank you Ms. Rathmann!

I bought this for myself, to use while working with little kids. Was disappointed that I didn't notice it was not a board book. But I just love this book and all my little children do too. Few words in it, cute illustrations, colorful and amusing. It has it all. It's a perfect book for winding down for nap or bedtime.

I think she likes the speed of turning the pages. There is not a lot of wording on each page and some pages don't have any words (so you can either make them up or move along). She likes the page where it's all black and the ladies eyes are open wide. It will be fun to see how she likes this book as she gets older. I know some people don't like this book because they think it's boring or sneaky, but I think it's cute and a quick read for bedtime. I really like the pictures also.

This little board book is a refreshing take-off on the somewhat sappy "Good Night, Moon." I appreciate books that encourage the development of a sense of humor, even in very young children. I bought it as a Christmas present for the grandchild of a dear friend.

We have a great time reading this (over and over). He loves to point out the different animals and giggles at the end nearly every time. There is not much dialogue in the story so we end up talking about what is happening in the pictures - but I've found that some of the books that have a lot of dialogue lose his attention.
This is one of our favorites.

Very colorful board book, lovely illustrations with lots of adorable details. Watch for the balloon!! It's kind of hard to tell this story because it has some subtext, I've had to explain to some kids what is going on but some older ones have understood based on the pictures.

I bought this in the paperback version for whatever reason and immediately wished I'd sprung for the hardcover. The book is very cute, few words so you can make up the story depending on your child's age. The pages in black with white eyes scared my 1 year old at first and I'd have to skip over those pages, but now he likes them. Definitely a book your child can grow into. The paperback is so thin though, so I'll probably end up getting this again in another format.

When my son was born, two of our friends independently decided that the best way to buy him a baby gift was to take their young daughters to a book store and let them choose books they thought he would like. This was the only one they both selected. Our son is still in the "I licked the corner and it was good" stage of book appreciation, but I've enjoyed reading it to him. The pictures are colorful and interesting, with lots to point out to a small child. And the storyline is surprisingly gentle, with the gorilla leading a parade of zoo animals to the zookeeper's home where they all curl up around his bedroom for sleep. It's easy to see how this one made it onto the favorites list.

My grandson (age 2) adores this cute book. On the page where the zookeeper's wife turns out the light, and all the animals say goodnight, my grandson exclaims "What!? Too many goodnights!". And indeed, there were. A fun read-a-loud for a fun little boy.

This book is an amazing book for emergent readers. There are not a lot of words - many pages don't have any. However the pictures and the sequencing make the story clear. There are a lot of pictorial details to talk about with the little one.
Very very good book for kids.

Love the illustration and simple text! How whimsical, elegant, funny, imaginative and creative! My baby and I read it a lot before. Now I just recite the book and my 16 months old toddler goes to bed at night.

My daughter just turned two and has been requesting the "gorilla" book for months. Not much text, but plenty to talk about/expand on. I also use this book with my 1-2 year olds during play therapy sessions because there is so much to discuss. If you like this book, I also recommend "Hug."

I first purchased this book from the store when my son was only ten months old. At first I was disappointed because there are so few words in the book. Having purchased it from the store, I had not seen the book from cover to cover. However, it didn't take me long to realize what a great opportunity this was for my son to use his imagination and critical think about each illustration. In a very short amount of time he was telling me what each page said, whether it happened to be one with words or not! What a pleasure it was to see him critically thinking in this manner and at such a young age! I would highly recommend this to any parent. My son was also able to catch on very quickly that there is a mouse to be found on every single page. He is now 29 months old and still begs me to read it him!

I love this book. More importantly, my 2 year old son does too! I have read it too him every night almost since Christmas. He loves to find the moon and balloon on each page. The black pages are hos favorite and he knows that the bubbles say "Night, night" as he says. He squeals at the zookeeper's wife when she hears all the nighty, nights. This book is beautifully illustrated, and I find something new in the drawings a lot.

This is a book where the pictures tell the story. As the zoo keeper says good night to the animals, a naughty gorilla makes some mischief. It is a great book for young children to interact with because they get to tell the story. One of my all time favorite children's books and a young reader classic!

My daughter loves this book, son soon followed suite. So when getting a package together for my tiny second cousin I had to include this one. Good thing it's a board book. Our children tore the original to pieces, hardcover, but the pages rip easily in Good Night Gorilla. Great to find it in a sturdier edition.

Love love love this book! This was the absolute favorite book for both of my children at about age 15 months. And they both still love it at 2 & 3! I have given it as a gift at so many baby shower now I should own stock! My children loved following along as I described what happened on each page and now my daughter loves to read it to her little brother. I would also suggest getting the scholastic video. It also has become a favorite for my children.

This book is short on words, but has incredible illustrations to tell the story. This book is delightful to read and very humorous as you pay attention to the details of the pictures. This book also is a great book for having dialog with a child while reading as you can ask questions about what is happening or what the child thinks might happen next. I love this book all the way around.

This is a lovely picture book with charming illustrations. The clever little gorilla takes the zookeeper's keys and lets the animals out of their cages. They follow the zookeeper home and curl up to sleep in his room, and therein follows a funny sequence of "good nights" that leaves the zookeeper's wife wide-eyed in the dark. Everyone is returned to his cage in the zoo... or are they? There are cute details in the pictures, such as each zoo animal having toys (a Babar stuffed animal for the elephant), and a banana-toting mouse.
