Great twisting plot in this Tempe story. Never expected the plot changed so late in the book. Dr. Reichs uses her expertise of forensic anthropology in an experiential manner for the reader. She lets you walk in Tempe's shoes easily, never over selling details to convince you of the process. She concisely delivers her skills because she think you can comprehend it.

I enjoyed the book but found it a little difficult to follow at times. I typically take several weeks to finish a book due to my busy schedule & a book with too many plot twists is hard to read in short segments, but I still enjoyed it.

A good story which continues at a cracking pace. It is written in the first person and Tempe Brennan's character is quite believable. Kathy Reichs writes clearly with a good attention to detail which puts you in the centre of the experience. Hard to put down.

“Fatal Voyage“ is the fourth in Kathy Reichs' delightful Temperance Brennan series. If the main character’s name sounds familiar, perhaps you have already enjoyed the concept of these books on "Bones," the popular FOX television series for over ten years. I really enjoy this book series which has a strong, intelligent female protagonist. I was more impressed when I discovered that the author and the protagonist are so similar: the central character is Dr. Temperance (Tempe) Brennan, who like author Reichs is a forensic anthropologist from North Carolina who also works in the Montreal coroner's office. Both as well taught anthropology at The University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

“Fatal Voyage” opens with Tempe investigating a plane crash in the Smoky Mountains in North Carolina. Things do not seem to add up to her, and slowly her efforts to investigate are being blocked by mysterious forces as she tries to investigate her concerns. Finally, she is accused of wrongdoing and released from the investigative team.

I liked the book; I liked the main character; and I like her style of writing. Reichs truly knows how to write a novel that keeps you trapped and glued to each page. In Reichs' "Fatal Voyage," the writing is good, the plot is well crafted and moves quickly, and more importantly, it is entertaining. If you enjoyed TVs “Bones,” “CSI,” or if you enjoy a murder mystery with scientific forensics, then you will enjoy this book.

What the author does with this series: Kathy Reichs started off slow but gets better and better. This is part of the series called the Tempe Brenner – Forensic Anthropologist. This paragraph applies to all books in this series. Tempe is a anthropologist who works for medical examiners in Montreal, Quebec and Charlotte North Caroline

Even though the books are often very detailed in both location and the examination of the remains, the story often moves faster than you expect.

Do you need to read this series in order: YES or you miss out on too much of the back stories.

Triggers: This is a book about medical examiners at its core, so lots of references to dead bodies, some are described in strong detail (in a forensic way). Our anthropologist ends up in some life threatening situations and on a couple of occasions in the series, animals are killed, sometimes gratuitously. Relatives of Tempe often in up wounded as the bad persons try to get to her through her family.

This book had a very different setting, which made it great.

"Fans of TV's CSI: Crime Scene Investigation should be in heaven" (People) stepping into the world of forensic anthropologist Dr. Temperance Brennan, star of Kathy Reichs' electrifyingly authentic bestsellers. She has a passion for the truth . . . and this time, it's taking her down. A commercial airliner disaster has brought Tempe Brennan to the North Carolina mountains as a member of the investigative agency DMORT. As bomb theories abound, Tempe soon discovers a jarring piece of evidence that raises dangerous questions -- and gets her thrown from the DMORT team. Relentless in her pursuit of its significance, Tempe uncovers a shocking, multilayered tale of deceit and depravity as she probes her way into frightening territory -- where someone wants her stopped in her tracks.

This certainly wasn't my favourite of the series but, plotwise, it was definitely entertaining. I would have read it one go if I wasn't so tired last night. The mystery begins with a major fatality plane crash, but turns into a spooky horrorish chase with murders, missing people and lots of clue-hunting. It was enthralling and unputdowinsh. I was enchanted and deseparate to see how everything was linked - certainly better than the Deadly Decisions.

Although the same problems that have peeved me off in the last three books were still evident. For one Tempe is a terribly dislikable character. She has no depth to her character. The author simply tells us how she is feeling and that is meant to be enough...? I have seen her go through so much with this series already yet I feel like I don't really know or understand her character. Luckily we do get some Ryan again - halleujuah! - and I enjoyed the new characters of Crowe and Boyd. I hope to see them in more books.

The writing still suffered from the overly analytic, information heavy and jolty dialogue problem, but I've come to understand that is how this series is written. I get that that is how Tempe sounds and for the die-hard science fans I'm sure it is appreciated. I think I am just going to have get used to it soon...

Overall, not the best book but a intriguing mystery that kept me on my toes and entertained enough that the other problems weren't so horrendous in my eyes. I look forward to Grave Secrets.
