All week long I looked forward to working my garden this Labor day weekend and, sure enough, it stormed all day. I picked up my Kindle to read a chapter or two before I resigned to another Netflix weekend.

I just wanted to get started on my next book, Protocol One. Needless to say, Netflix never had a chance. I couldn't put the Kindle down until I had finished the entire book.

I really appreciate that Nate Goodman kept the focus on the story without going to the extreme on every little inconsequential detail. Many authors seem to go overboard with the details to show off their knowledge and research. I just want a great story. Nate has the gift of balance when it comes to details.

I also like the fact that I didn't have to juggle a multitude of characters in my mind as I enjoyed the book. Protocol One has just enough interesting characters to get to know without continuously asking yourself, "Wait, who was that again?"

I just bought the next three books in the Jana Baker series and can't wait to see where Jana ends up now that she knows she was born to be a special agent.

I enjoyed Protocol One and look forward to more of the series. Five stars for sure.

FBI agent of 23 years service, Chuck Stone, recruits the recently appointed, ambitious young assistant to Rune Dina, the CEO of Petrology Corporation. She is to attempt to find out what was secretly being planned after the interception of a message from the company to All Quaeda's third most important leader rings all of the 'terrorist plot' bells. With initial reluctance but great cunning and bravery, Jana Baker pursues her given objective.

Protocol One is a quick, easy read with a strong, basic story which highlights the courage and inventiveness of the woman who will become agent Baker. Good dialogue and characterisations of Jana herself and the agent who first requested her help, and with whom she finds an unexpected connection. It works well as an introductory prequel if a little light for a full novel. It will certainly further flesh out the character of the woman behind the agent in the Protocol series of books by Nathan Goodwin.

My thanks to the author for a free, advance copy of his book

This is the first book in Nathan Goodman’s Jana Baker series and it is a good introduction to the character. This is a short book and a quick read so there is not much character development. Jana is hired by Rune Dima, the CEO of Petrocal, to execute stock trades. She is unaware of his connection to Al-Qaeda until she is approached by the FBI, who has picked up a communique signaling an impending strike of some kind.

Goodman keeps the action moving at a good clip and it was an interesting read. Jana’s actions for the FBI have her rethink her career path and it will be interesting to see where Goodman takes her in her other assignments.

Characters are well developed, the plot is intriguing and it's definitely a fast-paced read.

I like Jana; she's self-assured, feisty, independent and intelligent and has a wry sense of humour. Stone's a good father figure and they make a good, if somewhat unusual team. Really enjoyed the byplay between the two.

Suspenseful and absolutely nerve-wracking at times. Goodman is superb at ratcheting up the tension notch by notch.

An author whose every book I'll definitely be reading, have already downloaded the next in the series, Protocol 14!

This was a free e-copy via an author promo and I chose to post a review. This was one ripper of a read!

A quick suspenseful tale that lets us see Jana Baker obtaining her first job after college, with her excitement and interest in stock trading. However immediately after she is hired there is a strange problem, as a man she has never met approaches her in a coffee shop with knowledge about her he should not have. The story drags you in right away, with a great plot and constant action as Jana makes a decision that will change her life.A super story as an addition to the Jana Baker Spy series, I loved finding out the background of this heroine. This book can definitely be read as a stand alone novel, but if you like great action thrillers featuring covert operators, you should read the other two books as well!

Totally enjoyed the intriguing storyline. Jana Baker has another fan. Yay, I found a new author to follow! I was very pleased with the storyline of Jana Baker. The book flowed beautifully and now I'm reading 14th Protocol. I wish I had more time to read. I highly recommend this series. Nathan Goodman does an excellent job of pulling you into the story and keeping you there until the end.

No question: Ms. Jana Baker is one spunky woman. She's always up for a challenge and has little fear of the unknown: she'll jump right in the middle of things to get the job done.

This was one great read introducing an excellent character in the books that follow. My recommendation is read this book before the others. You will have a much better appreciation those stories.

I adore books with strong smart heroines! Just as Beyoncé becomes Tasha Fierce when she performs, Jana becomes Janesha when it's time to take down the villains! I thoroughly enjoyed reading and learning how she began with the FBI as well as the informal introductions to Stone, Latent and Uncle Bill
They all 'kicked butt and took names' in The 14th Protocol wherein they all starred, but here Jana was adequately and rightly cast as the only star and the others HER co-stars!
I'm waiting on pins and needles to complete this series!

I really enjoyed this book. I’ve always loved spy books and this one was just right. I worried in the beginning where it was going to go with some of the sexual references but it remained pretty clean.
Quick and easy read, and I’m interested in reading the next book in the series.
I was provided with a free copy of this book with the understanding I would review it here.

It is often difficult when writing a prequel to have a story which stands on its own... Protocol One completed that task and did so in such a thorough and interesting manner that I forgot that it was a prequel... The plots are realistic yet full of twists and turns not readily anticipated, and each step of the character development had meaning and helped to create a great reading time... from the time that I started, I only stopped once for dinner, and found myself quickly back completing the book with a fine red wine in hand and a warm fireplace glowing into the night... Clearly I enjoyed the book and recommend it to anyone who wants to be pleased and entertained...

always exciting and keeps you on the edge,of,your seat. I like the fact that he has a very strong female character in his series. I have read all of his books and they are very well written. He keeps the suspense coming and there truly is no boring moments in which you want to just flip the pages. Some of this type of book is so unbelievable and foolish, but Mr. Goodman nails it and i highly recommended his books.

Fast-paced, riveting action and drama. Well-written, strong female lead and great characters. Read this book in one sitting, couldn't put it down. If you love Jason Bourne, you'll love the books of N. Goodman. I have read The Fourteenth Protocol and it is better than this book, and this book is great! I asked the author if I could review his books.

Protocol One is an excellent introduction to the Jana Baker series. Fast paced and a good yarn as some might say. It's a quick read, with some twists and turns that are unexpected. I have enjoyed all of Nathan Goodman's books. This one covers Jana's introduction to undercover operations and how she winds up at the FBI. Enjoyable read.

I started reading this author's books with Protocol 15, which blew me away. This novel is a prequel to 15 and explains how FBI badass Jana Baker came to be an FBI agent. Pacing of the book is great and you learn a lot more about an already loveable character, Jana. Lots of action, descriptive writing, and great character development will have you wanting to read more by this author. I finished this book really quickly because I couldn't put it down!

I received a free copy of this book through Voracious Readers.

Great fun. Starts a little too fast without much motivation for the lead character, but if you like fast paced, gripping action novels you’ll love this one.

Could use a bit more in the character development area, but a fast and good read for those who enjoy suspense.

This is a novella, and the author's first offering. The plot is compact, simple. A 22 years old college babe spies on 2 terrorists and then brings them down. Never-the-less, I thought it was a pretty good offering. It grabbed my interest and wouldn't let it go. I'm buying the sequel.

I loved Protocol One, it was totally unexpected the way Jana was recruited and how well she adapted and fitted in with being an agent. I couldn't put this book down and sadly it came to its end far too soon. Great read, great action and great outcome.
