This book is pretty comprehensive in outline format and an excellent resource for review and to glean buzzwords and such before tests.
However, to really understand material, I would not recommend this as a primary text.

Explains stuff in a simple, practical way. Plus, its good to have a smaller book that doesn't give you a lot of unnecessary info, I own the big Robbins too and its a really good book, but this one is a lot better when it comes to having the info you MUST know in hand

This book was extremely helpful in studying for boards-- I actually used it as my central text instead of First Aid. Like most review books, it's very dense, although I found that reading 10-20 pages per day, in addition to questions and other reading, was perfectly reasonable.

What makes RR Pathology better than BRS Pathology, in particular, is that it includes excellent physiology summaries for each system at the beginning of the chapter...I actually think that you could skip a devoted physiology review book (e.g. BRS Physiology) and just study these sections well, if you were so inclined and had a pretty good grasp already.

My advice: RR Pathology, plus Robbins Review of Pathology questions, and you will have pathology and pathophysiology down cold.

Medical student here, using this to supplement my pathology in the didactic years. The book is extremely detailed (especially in comparison to the Pathoma series) but doesn't have supplementary videos. That said, if you ... use the internet ... you can find audio recordings of Dr. Goljan to supplement the reading. This book is a perfect complement to First Aid for Step 1 also, as the two discuss separate aspects of diseases.

The biggest complaint I have with this book is that new chapters do not start on the front of a page, and instead may continue from the back of an old page. If you have the book three-hole punched and only carry pertinent sections to class, you will find this annoying. It's a poor decision for a book that's several hundred pages to not add an extra 15 to make it easier to use.

The paper itself is high quality and very glossy, the pathologic pictures are clearly labeled and defined. There are lots of examples of common findings seen in your course pathology exams, and I'm assuming Step1 also.

This book although much,in all honesty meets the demand for the boards if well read with ample time needed,am beginning to improve on my Qbanks after just two chapters, hope will be able to cover most of it before boards.

One of the better pathology review books available. It is pretty extensive at least when compared to pathoma. I would still get BOTH however as pathoma is more high yield and current for step 1 but this book is much more useful and important than pathoma for the school year. My favorite and most impressive about this review are the tables... They are amazing! The only thing is that it doesn't quite explain the basic concepts as well as Pathoma (especially the pathoma videos) but it expects you to pretty much have that down as this is intended as a review.

Nice summaries of diseases. I'm using it to study for Step 1. So far I've only used it to review subjects from classes because I'm not to hardcore Step 1 study time, but it's great to just read the corresponding section for each class to help solidify information!

As previous reviewers have said, the book is overall longer than the 3e, with more pictures/diagrams. I'm a very visual learner, so this is super helpful. However, I just sat for Step 1 (studied for 6 weeks) and there is simply not enough time in the day to use anything except FA & UW. If you're trying to use an outside reference beyond FA, you should probably just read the page or 2 in Robbins. If for some reason you want to (and can) study for >6 wks, you could breeze through this book initially to get your feet wet +/- Goljan audio. I used this book (3e) during preclinical and I loved it for that. Most of the path lectures were poorly organized and flooded you with info. I loved having RR by my side to tell me what was the most important/high yield.

I have the second edition and the third is sooooooooo much better. It is completely different from the 2ed, in more ways then one. The size of the pages are bigger, there are a ton more pictures and multiple new schematic diagrams. There is a lot of extra info. I'm happy i purchased this edition and would recommend it to everyone studying for USMLE.

Goljan's 3rd edition has lots of pictures, tables and site notes that make it really easy to read, everything is high yield. Also helps to integrate all basic subjects. It has 603 pags, but it's time well spend.

great book! use this along with BRS pathology...rapid review has been really helpful for me in pathology class. it helps me digest huge amount of information from mommy robbins. book is also in bullet format which makes it easier to understand.

Rapid review is a little longer than I had expected. There is a lot of great information in the book, but it was a little overwhelming upon receiving the book. I also own Pathoma and prefer that over Rapid Review

So many typos and unclear/contradictory/inconsistent phrasing that I'm constantly referencing other material for clarification, which is either laziness or brilliance on the part of the author because I do end up solidifying concepts as a result. Not sure if sloppy or genius...
