Not the worst book ever written, but the worst book ever written by Stephen Hunter. I'm not sure what he was trying to do here, but it was a swing-and-a-miss for me. I'll hope for something better next time.

First time I've been disappointed in a Swagger novel. Mostly because of the southern family mentality and the lingo they speak. Got so I skimmed a lot of the family conversations because they irritated me. Swagger himself is good as always.

I love Bob the Nailer. These series of books have been one of my favorite for years. But alas, even good things seem to always end. Havana was pretty mediocre, The 47th Samurai was pretty bad... i read Swagger for guns, not for swords. It seemed like i spent more time with the last book trying to learn these words then enjoying what i am reading...

but i digress...

Night of Thunder goes back to what Bob Lee is good at. I was worried when i read all these nascar overtones, but alas, it was overall a okay read. Yes, Bob Lee magically knows how to ride a motorcycle, and yes, Nikki was 4 when bob was 50 in Black Light, and now Nikki has graduated college and bob is... well... not 72. But its a step back in the right direction.

Night of Thunder: A Bob Lee Swagger Novel (Bob Lee Swagger Novels)Simply another great 'Bob Lee Swagger' novel. Not too much more can be said about the ability of this author. As Bob Lee gets on toward old age,he still has what it takes to bring down the bad guys.I'm waiting for Hunter to bring another child, hopefully,a boy)into the Swagger fold. What,or how the author is going to deal with the eventual demise of Bob Lee,(as he did Earl)remains to be seen, but it'll be a bad,sad day, when,or if,he decides to do just that.
I'm not sure where Hunter is going with the daughters,(Nickii-or the adopted Japanese girl[47th Samura]It doesn't seem to me that the girls could hold a candle to the likes of Earl or Bob Lee.

Another gripping, intelligent thriller about one of the very best recurring characters in all fiction -- Sniper Bob Lee Swagger -- from one of the most intelligent and gripping writers in all fiction; Stephen Hunter.

I fervently hope that Stephen Hunter outlives me, but not for too long. I am almost 67 and can see the day coming when Bob The Nailer is no more. I expect that his son and daughters will do him proud. So glad I got back into the gun life and discovered this author on an interview with Michael Banes (I hope I got his name right) on the Outdoor channel. I have read them all several times and there is no better escape than these books. This is one of my favorites because I grew up in Tennessee. Keep writing until you fall over at your desk, like Robert B. Parker, another master storyteller with a different kind, but almost as great a hero! Long winded, huh? But seriously, if you like action and heroic men, you cannot beat Stephen Hunter!

A great tale about an older super hero. Even though I'm not a NASCAR fan, the car driving was most impressionable. Of course, the 'Nailer's' ability to outhink and to outshoot any and all opponents is extraordinary. Hi highly recommend it.

Can't believe Stephen Hunter wrote this farcical tome. Either he wrote it the night before his deadline or a ghost writer thought he was a novelist 'cause he stayed at a Holiday Inn Express,in which case he should really give up the ghost and find another profession. I thought Hunter's "47th Samurai" was far-fetched but "Night Of Thunder" beats it hands down. I have read and enjoyed Hunter's books up until now and move on with some trepidation to his newest books. Hopefully the "old" Stephen Hunter will emerge.
