wish the caterpillar itself was a little bigger. But the book is very good. I also got the jammies to go with it. I was hopeing for a package deal , all three. I thought the book and caterpiller were pricey though.

My child absolutely loves the caterpillar toy that came with this book! It is the perfect size for his little hands and the bright colors are very nice. The Very Hungry Caterpillar was one of my favorite books as a child and now my son loves it too.

I didn't look at the measurements before buying, and thought it would be the full size book with a fairly large toy. It's a board book with a quite small toy. Ok, that's my own fault. Not worth the hassle/cost of returning, I'll just donate it someplace.
The reason I'm rating it so low, however, is that even though board books and toys this size are generally intended for kids small enough they might still be teething, this is marked "ages 3 and up"! I think because of smallish parts on the toy. Exactly what age kid is this set meant for?
And the small parts probably didn't even need to be there in the first place; the caterpillar toy has so many hairs (threads) on its back, that it doesn't even look right.

The end of the book where a caterpillar turned into a butterfly captivated my son for a long while. The illustrations are wonderful, well scaled for youngster's eyes to see and gather the most as well.

This item was great because the book was built super thick and sturdy to last the handling of a child, as well as it came with a matching stuff Caterpillar that goes along with the book. I bought this as a shower gift, and I didn't even want to wrap it because even the packaging was beautiful. Great gift idea.

Every child should own this book. Many years ago, I read it to my children when they were small and now I have purchased two more--one for each of my two great granddaughters. A quality child's picture book is a timeless thing. It is hard to beat the combination of text and art demonstrated in this children's classic. Bonus: there is a small stuffed toy caterpillar included. So-o-o cute!

What a wonderful book - great educational story, girveous bright colors and little punch holes for the little ones to put their fingers into ! This has been my son's favorite book since he was 5 months old. I probably love it as much as he does. Since then we have bought him a bunch of books but even now, at 13 months old, thus remains his favorite book ! We usually read it to him during his mealtime - keeps him occupied and entertained :-) Highly recommended !

Love this book and the cute little caterpillar plushie. We used the book as a "guest sign in" at my grandson's Very Hungry Caterpillar-themed birthday party. There was plenty of "white space" thoughout the book, where friends could leave sentiments and good wishes for the guest of honor. It was a big hit and received many compliments.

Such a classic book. Shipment came in immaculate condition. The gift box was in pristine condition. I was a little worried it would get damaged during shipment because this was a gift. Just be aware the size of the book. Much smaller than anticipated.

Story Synopsis:
- A caterpillar eats his way through different foods until he is full and weaves a cocoon transforming into a beautiful butterfly. Charming colorful illustrations of foods along with the fat caterpillar and catchy little holes in the foods where the caterpillar "had his snack" make this book a hit with young children.
Review:
- Eric Carle's classic, "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" has charmed millions over the years with it's simple memorable story, striking illustrations and the gimmicky holes on each of its' pages. To date, more than 12 million copies of this book have been sold in its original, full-sized edition, and mini editions. This beloved tale of science and gluttony has also been translated into 20 languages and counting. Die-cut pages (each page has a hole where the "caterpillar" ate through the food item) illustrate what the caterpillar ate on successive days. Strikingly bold, colorful pictures and a simple text in large, clear type tell the story of a hungry little caterpillar's culinary progress through an amazing variety and quantity of foods. Full at last, he weaves a cocoon around himself and goes to sleep, to emerge a few weeks later as a wonderfully transformed and beautiful butterfly! The final, double-page picture of the butterfly is a joyous explosion of color, a vibrant affirmation of the wonder and beauty of Nature. This story is a hit every time. Carle's bright colors and clever die-cut artwork never cease to entertain even the youngest child, and there is surely nothing in nature closer to magic than the emergence of a butterfly. This is a beautiful, educational and fun book.
Literary Features For Young Readers:
- Simple words appropriate to pre-readers, younger children and ELLs (English Language Learners).
- The predictability of the words and their tie-in with the illustrations makes the book easy for pre-readers to understand.
- The rhythm of the prose makes the book memorable and fun book to read for little people.
- Strikingly bold, colorful pictures tell the story of the hungry little caterpillar in complement with the simple words.
- Eric Carle's art gimmick (i.e. the die-cut holes through the food illustrations on each page) gives small children (and the occasional adult like me!) an extra bit of fun and enjoyment
- The moral lessons of the story are simple and universal: "Don't judge a person by the way they look" and "real beauty is more than skin-deep."
Teaching Tie-ins:
- Counting skills (Foods accumulate progressively)
- The days of the week.
- Nutrition (The best food for the caterpillar is the leaf, not the candy, cake, etc. or why we can't eat chocolate and candy all day long)
- Intro to science and biology:
It is a fun book with its' "holes" that have been eaten through the pages, and become a preschoolers introduction to science/biology when the little caterpillar turns into a beautiful butterfly.
- Shapes (foods)
Possible Projects:
- Food or nutrition mobiles and other related projects.
- Art collages in the style or Eric Carle using torn tissue and other media.
- Simple life cycle science projects (posters are life cycle mobiles)
- Caterpillar art activity: creating caterpillars out of an egg cartoons.
- As a preschool and kindergarten teacher, I had classes perform simple plays for young children based upon this book.

I highly recommend this charming little book for younger children and ELLs (English Language Learners).

This is a WONDERFUL story for any young child. This product is a board book which is suited for the busy baby or toddler. The main character is the stuffed toy (caterpillar). It can be used to act out the story or just to snuggle. Eric Carle is the author and I would recommend this and any of his other books. They are very meaninful stories that you are sure to love.

Honestly, I read this book a million times when I was a kid. It was my absolute favorite. So for me to be able to buy it now for my little one, it makes my heart happy. And if my kid doesn't like it, well. Guess who will - ME!

I was dissapointed when the plush wouldn't fit through the holes in the book, I think that would have been a nice touch. (There is NO WAY he will fit) I guess I expected the book to be bigger.
But my 6 month old loves it, and it is such a great book I had to give it 4 stars. It is well made and sturdy so I can see it lasting for a while.

For my grandson's first birthday, I wanted a gift that would please him visually and stimulate him mentally. A friend suggested this book because her son had enjoyed it many years ago. Feedback from my grandson, through his parents, is that he enjoys the book very much, and the toy is nice but not as captivating as listening to someone reading the book. Thanks for a very good purchase.

The book itself is one of our all time favorites! The toy is a little small and simple, but the toddlers (we've given it to) seem to love the softness and easy to carry accompaniment to the classic and colorful book. The board book itself is sturdy and well-sized and appears to be well put together and will last. This has been a great gift set to give at showers, and to both new moms and toddlers.

I bought this for a girlfriend's daughter because it was one of my favorites growing up. I didn't realize that it came with a little stuffed very hungry caterpillar until I had it in my hands. But apparently it's the best part of the gift! She just turned one, loves her books, and now this one too!

This classic favorite captures the interest of children because the caterpillar "eats" its way through the pages of the book. There are actual holes in the pages. My 3-yr old niece loved the book and when she got her own copy she was thrilled. But the plush caterpillar made it even more special. Both the book and the toy never leave her side.
