I always enjoy Louise Penny's books and was interested to read this one. At first, I did not realise that it was a shorter, simpler book aimed at people who might have difficulty reading. It was enjoyable, with the regular cast of characters from Louise Penny. Though it was too short and over quickly. It was indeed a "good read" and I would consider other books in this format.

I love this series: the writing just keeps getting better, the plots keep getting more interesting, and the backstories are compelling. But if you aren't familiar with Chief Inspector Gamache, go start at the beginning. You will be setting yourself up for many pleasurable hours of reading.

Story moved quickly and evenly. Characters did not have much time to be revealed or evolve. Pleasant and solid imagery used to describe the environment and location of the story. Just expected more, I guess, based on the other Penny books I've read.

I LOVE revenge stories, and this one is a goody. Louise Penny isn't only a superb craftsman when it comes to a plot, she also has a beautiful, meaty writing style that leaves many of her fellow writers in the dust. You will never be disappointed in one of her Gamace novels.

Though far too short, The Hangman provided for me a positive return to Three Pines and a reunion with Ms Penny's (I guess) original characters, while I eagerly await the August 25th release of Ms Penny's newest Gamache mystery.

Love, love, love the Chief Inspector Gamache series. The first books were a bit tedious at the start, but were eventually impossible to put down. Curious as to why The Hangman was not part of the series. Anticipating The Kingdom of the Blind in November!

I liked this Louise Penny novel. The story seemed short as it was full of action and suspense.
Inspector Gamache is so good, likable and gets the job done in a calm manner.
I am excited for the new novel to come out in the fall.

This is another great story by Louise Penny. I would highly recommend it. You can tell it is one of her earlier works, but still so well done and such an interesting plot twist, with some Canadian history thrown in. I enjoyed it and you will too! Based upon the current political landscape in the US I may be looking to Three Pines as my retirement sanctuary :)

Have recently found Louise Penny's Mystery series whose main character is Chief Inspector Gemache from Canadian Police Dept. Her writing reminds me of Agatha Christie, another favorite. This book has some of the characters that are in the series. That alone made it an interesting read for me!

Pretty good for a quick read. Obviously it didn't have the character development of the longer novels. Also, usually one can expect newly introduced characters (Olivier excluded) to be the taansgressor.

I always enjoy the Gamache series. This is Gamache lite, written in simplified English for a target audience with a relatively low reading level. The writing loses some of the richness as a result, but the author did a wonderful job to bring this story line to a bigger audience.

More a novelette than a long story, but still written in her imitable style and very enjoyable. I really like her descriptive style of both people and places. I feel I'm right there in Quebec and Three Pines.

This is another wonderful Inspector Gamache novel! It was not at all what I expected! The Inspector is always so insightful in deducting the "villain's" motives! Highly recommend this book to sny mystery buffs.

I love Louis Penny, but did not realize that this is a short book, written for adults who are building their reading level (vocab is at the 3d grade level). It's a good story and would be useful for adults learning English. But if you are expecting her usual, you will be disapointed.

I have read 3 of Louise Penny Inspector Gamache novels and I thoroughly enjoyed this short story. It is a good introduction to this mystery series if you wanted to try it out without committing the time you do with a novel.
