The firefox series continues to amaze me with it's simplicity and beautiful documentation of the Mountain life style. The other lesson is that we all need to pass forward what we have learned and loved to the next generation and the next and the next ... Picking up the earlier FF books is well worthwhile, every one a jewel.

The Foxfire Project is momentious and if you notice you are missing one or three in the set, having loaned them, it's wise to replace these missing gems of mountain pioneering and lossed skills. Mighty fine reading next to the bed.

The Foxfire series of books are outstanding. There is something for all ages, male or female in these books. I was born and raised in the Sandhills of North Carolina. Just a hop, skip and a jump from the area that is written about in these books. So close in fact that everything in these books could have been written about my family, friends and community. The details on how to do things or make things is accurate and complete. I have experienced all of the things that are written about from preserving foods, making soap or furniture, to visiting a church with snake handlers, heard all of the legends,.....The Southern dialect is captured perfectly and explained for folks that might not understand a few of the words or phrases. If you want to learn how to do something, you can probably find out how to in one of these books. These books are good for children to use for school if they need accurate and or historical information. My children and Grandparents all enjoy reading these books. These are books that you will go back to often for a variety of reasons, from using a recipe to getting instructions on how to make something or fix something. These books without a doubt are well loved and will be passed down through the family like a precious family heirloom. You can check out the Foxfire Museum at Foxfire. Org to find out more about these wonderful books, to subscribe to the Foxfire magazine or to order any of the books that you can't find on the store. Preppers also find these books to be a must have. Bless your heart, youwon't be disappointed with your purchase of any of these books.

Love reading about many of the "old ways" the people of the Appalachian and Smoky Mountains that helped them survive life. Have even tried a couple of the meat smoking and soap making suggestions. Life was hard, but they didn't complain and made the best of it, and even enjoyed it. If you're interested in reading about the "old ways" of mountain living, or maybe getting even trying to get back to the earth, these are the books for you. Great price, easy reading, informative, and just plain interesting I would recommend these to anyone. The dealers from whom I ordered shipped promptly and the book was just as described. So far, I have books 1-7 of the collection. Excellent!

This work, Volume VI, is like the others. A wonderful history of how it was. In this day and age of having most needs meet and something for everyone on the Wal-mart shelf, we tend to forget just what it was like in our not too distant past. These books, the Foxfire books, brings to light skills, attitudes and a way of life that is all but forgotten. This is a good thing. When a people lose their history, they lose part of their soul. As the title of this work states, from shoemaking to toys, to games and musical instruments, this addresses many of the old forgotten skills and there is so much more. The editors have done a wonderful job. They have made a very honest effort to replicate the dialect of those places and times and I feel that this is a big part of the charm of these books. I am old enough to have known many of the kinds of folks featured in these books, being only one generation past them, and have a great appreciation for what and how they did all the little things we take so for granted now. I might also suggest that you actually try some of the things mentioned in these volumes. It will give you even more of an appreciation for what they did, and hey, who knows, the skill you develope just might come in handy one of these days! Recommend this and the other Foxfire books highly.

The entire Fox Fire colledtion should be required reading for all people of this country. You would get a feel for where we came from and our heritage. The books show a deep respect for each other, God and country. Very good.
