Sterling storytelling. Irving's deft descriptions and engaging prose made reading this seminal American tale satisfying and edifying. The rich vocabulary also made me wish Washington Irving plied his craft today.

It seems a shame movie makers couldn't stay closer (cleave in Washington's parlance) to Irving's charming short story

A copy of this already known story, has been available for a long time, but not having it in my library, caused me to order and place it in my collection. The writing abilities of Washington Irving is already known, and is recommended by this reviewer.

Getting this book on ther Kindle was great...and inexpensive...BUT...it had been MANY years since I had read it. I wanted to read it to some kindergarden kids but it is written in Gothic English. Very stilted. Big words! Got a similiar book out of their school library.

Wonderful writing, influenced by Washington Irving's many years living in Europe. It was an enchanting read, and that same week visited the Old Dutch church, Sleepy Hollow Cemetary, Iriving's Grave and his home Sunnyside in Tarrytown NY. Nice little fall thing to do.

Another one of those great stories that you can get on the kindle for free!I picked this book to get me into the Halloween spirit this fall. Having only heard this story told in the cartoon versions of television I was quite surprised by how much I did'nt know about this classic tale.A few minor formatting issues that don't really get in the way at all.
In short, a fun little read!

I highly recommend this book as a visual aid which relates to the current generation of readers. I have purchased several of the Graphic Horror books that retell the classics and my students not only gain great insight into classic tales from them, but they also relate to the format of the books. Highly recommended for ages 12-adult.

Throughout my life I've seen and heard several versions of this story so I finally decided to read it for myself and get the true version. It's much different than I expected but I still enjoyed it very much.

With Halloween around the corner, I thought this would be a perfect read for my 3rd grade granddaughter. It was and she loved it. Trying to incorporate some of the Classics in her reading list. I highly recommend this book.
