A beautiful story about a little girl and the effect of poverty. We all need to read this to understand that bullying comes in many forms. We should always be aware of those around us and protect those who can not protect themselves.

Every year, there are certain books that I consider a "must read" for students. "The Hundred Dresses" is one of those books! I've never had a 3rd grader not love this book. It is probably a 5th grade level book, but of the books I read to the students, this is one of my favorites. Many morals and life lessons can be obtained in reading this book. The characters are believable and the illustrations are perfect! I've read this to my GRANDchildren, as well.....everyone should ;)

I was looking for anti-bullying stories to read to my students.. The theme of this book fit the bill, but I had to switch gears to get the students' attention. I teach 4th grade, and normally the children adore read-alouds. The rhythm and language of the author, however, did not work well for a 2013 class, especially one with several second language learners. Student's attention drifted, and some didn't understand what was going on. Although I'm not keen on changing an author's language, I modified it and: mission accomplished. The message is a good one, but I continue to look for better books in this vein.

A timeless story dealing with excluding someone because of their differences. It also asks the question about going along with the crowd and thinking for one's self.
I bought the book for a mom's/daughter book club. For the first time all the girls completed the book up for discussion. It was interesting to hear from mom's who had read "The Hundred Dresses" as a child and now read the book with their daughter; how we see life so differently as we get older.

This is a good choice for the first chapter reader. Carefully told story unfolds to teach children empathy for others - those that are less fortunate or different in any way. I would recommend this time honored author's many works - they transcend the years.

A classic good story for girls that reminds us to be gentle with one another and kind to all we encounter. Follows the tale of an underprivileged new girl at school. She is snubbed by the others and only at the end when she has moved away do they discover her tremendous gift. My daughter who is 6 enjoyed me reading it to her and I remember the classic books from years ago. We recently bought it for another friend's birthday.
