There was an incessant worry over the main character from others as they acted on their own accord, regardless of her own opinions that personally bothered me. However, the main character had shared the same annoyance and vocalized this issue, improving the book substantially. Aside from this, the book held an interesting amount of humour, romance and action that had kept me indulged in the novel, from start to finish.

Interesting concept though a little dull. It was very predictable, howeveri could see where the author strived for originality- which is hard now a days. It would make a good read for $0.00. If you have to pay for it, even a dollar...I have to say hold your money there are better books. Plus I disliked the romance. It's hard to tell where it began or whether it was evolving. It had no real substance. It's as if the author said "let there be romance!"

I put off reading this book because, frankly, I haven't been enjoying many YA read lately. I'm beginning to think I've just gotten a little too old to relate to the teenagers involved. That being the case, I was relieved to enjoy this one as much as I did. Yes, I still had to sit through Algebra class (or whatever period it might have been) and all of the adolescent angst, but I have no intention of penalising the book for an expected element of the genre. It's just that some books play this particular card too heavily for me. That wasn't the case here. There was enough to remind me that Tara was 17 and Wes 19, but not enough to drown out the rest of the plot.
Tara was a character I could understand. She was strong willed, without being suicidal about it. She very rarely put herself in needless danger just to prove her independence. Plus she was surprisingly observant of the body language of other characters. She gleaned a lot of information from very small things. I appreciated that. Like her, I got a little tired of everyone trying to push her aside for her own protection and I was right behind her when she lashed out about it. You go girl!
I thought that the plot rolled along nicely. There were a few predictable parts, but on the whole the events kept me interested. I also thought that it ended well. I feel like lately half of the books I've read end in the middle of a story. As a result I'm becoming a little wary of any first in a series. This one had a real ending, while still being open for the continuation of the series.

Dirty Blood left you wanting more. This book was really good. I am definitely reading more from this author. Lately, I've read some crappy books, but this was redeeming for me. It gave me hope that good books are out there!

I really liked this book. The storyline was enough to keep me reading through most of the day, but the formatting left something to be desired. On the copy I read it was missing a large gap in the middle which truly was horrible as I missed a bit of the story, but overall it was a good read. I love complex characters that have issues to overcome and this book wasn't exactly short on it.

Dirty Blood is the first in a five book paranormal young adult series. You can find it for free on Kindle and that's where I found it. I usually read paranormal and young adult books and since I hadn't read a good werewolf book, I decided to try this one out.
It was a quick read for me. Hildenbrand's writing style puts you right into the action. There isn't a girl who languishes through most of the book trying to understand a mysterious guy. Oh no, Tara kicks ass in the first go. I like the ease in reading Hildenbrand's work. It wasn't too kiddie and the action was well placed. I would definitely go back to this author in the future.
Like I said earlier, Tara kicks butt in the first go. She's a strong, opinionated young lady, I felt she was part of the "in" crowd in school, but I can't be too sure. As such, she didn't seem to be a terrible person and that's good. Sure, there was a bit high school drama, but the biggest drama is Tara finding out who she really is.
Like Tara, we learn fairly early on and that's great. There isn't a lot of pause in this book. No, it's not action, action, action, but it isn't long pauses of "I don't cares". The action scenes were well thought out and I could see them going on.
I was expecting something like Twilight, but that wasn't the case. The main guy, Wes, did seem to look like Edward Cullen and did have some matching personality traits, but he had a budding alpha male feel to him. There was a funny part when Wes is driving and Tara asks about his age. She asks the same question Bella did for Edward: "How long have you been nineteen?" His answer will make you giggle a little or at least smile. Wes definitely has a bit of smart ass and I hope he loosens up in the future for that. It may make him a future favorite if he does.
I had a good time reading this book. It was enough action and enough details to keep me interested. No, the characters didn't grow much, but this is a five book series. If the main character grew too fast, then there would be nothing for her to grow into in the later books. I like that Hildenbrand did it that way.
Would I continue the series? Yes, I will. I like werewolves and Hildenbrand's world has intrigued me. Besides, who doesn't like a strong female?

Heather Hildenbrand is a great author. When you read the synopsis of this book/series, you might feel that it falls in the same category as the latest fad of werewolves, but the author really puts a nice spin on it and you don't feel you're reading the "same old story".
Great read!

Not my typical kind of book but totally enjoyed this series. Tara finds out that werewolves really do exist and she is supposed to hunt them down and kill them. Wes, oh boy is he just what she needs.?.?.?

I loved how the two types of supernatural creatures in this book tie together and drive the story line with the people involved and makes the book worthwhile. I can't wait until the rest of the series comes out.

Enter Tara, breaking up with her long time boyfriend, George. They’ve known each other since they were kids, but ever since he became MVP on the football team, he’s changed and his ego became inflated. She goes through their history together and you can’t help but feel her pain and conflicts.
She broke up with him at the pool hall and headed home. She bumped into a girl in the alley and gets attacked as she turns into a Werewolf. You would think Tara would be dead… nope, instead she ends up killing her in the end.
Enter Wes.
Oh Wes, he’s one of those over protective, sacrifice himself for her type of guys.
They feel an immediate pull to each other, but I won’t say why, you’ll just have to see.
He can’t figure her out or leave her alone either, so when he finds out there’s more to her and her life is in danger, he can’t just do nothing.
She enters his life, his friends, and the Cause.
There’s a lot of suspense and action in this and there are a lot of characters, but she does a good job of developing them without confusing you.
Definitely couldn’t put down!
For a freebie, definitely worth it.
This gets 4 PIGGIES!!

I agree with drosophila and Evanstar, this book just didn't have the umph to keep me reading. I bought this book in early 2015, didn't actually start reading it till summer. It has been hard for me to keep reading and here at the end of Feb. 2016, I've gotten 3/4 of the way through. I have read 7 other books since starting this one and frankly it doesn't rank up there with the rest of my shifter books. Compared to other high school heroines I've read about, I found this one weak compared with other hunters/or werewolves who didn't know about what and who they were or in the way she comprehended how her life had changed. When I compared her to high school kids of today and my own grandkids, who would have handled this info on a level this girl could not.
