I liked how this book grabbed my attention from the beginning and never let go. I enjoyed the setting and descriptions but did find it hard to believe that a fish and game person would be a lousy shot.

The first book read by this great author was Blue Heaven, then Back of Beyond, then The Highway. Loved them all. I decided to try the Joe Picket series, starting with Open Season. Never dreaming I would like a book about Wyoming and a slightly flawed game warden. I advise reading them in order, and I intend to read them all!
P.S. I am 83 years old and an avid reader!

Entertaining. A fast read. CJ Box addresses areas of real concern to people who live out in the NorthWest. He explores the havoc created by well meaning environmentalists turned ignorant eco-terrorists while still showing their human side. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.
Dirty Blood (Dirty Blood series Book 1) :: The New Jedi Order, Book 3) - Ruin (Star Wars :: Ascension (Star Wars - Fate of the Jedi :: Kenobi: Star Wars Legends :: In Plain Sight (A Joe Pickett Novel)

I started reading this series a couple of months agp and am now "hooked" into the Joe Pickett adventures. Box keeps it interesting, in a "not to be put down until it has all been read, kind of book and series". I am reading the series in the order of their release, although each one can easily stand on its own.

I love this Joe Pickett series. Savage Run is Book 2 out of 10 so far. The story is fast-paced, and suspenceful. The character of Joe Pickett is great because he is a normal guy. He makes mistakes that get him into trouble like we all do. His family is most important in his life, but he struggles with his job obligations vs. family obligations. These are things most of us can relate to.

For those of you who like Michael McGarrity & the neo-western style, this is your cup of pot-boiled coffee. Good, gripping beginning, good plot, an antagonist you can love to hate & gritty justice.

Quick pace, simple, likeable characters, whimsical situations (exploding cows). Not great literature, but not pulp fiction vampire and zombie junk either. Overpriced for a few hours romp, but then, what isn't?

Hard to put down once started. A few story problems that the editor should have caught. Also some external and internal ballistic tecnical nonsense, but only true gun enthusiasts would notice, and they would ALL notice. Joe's ability to get into so many bizarre and interconnected problems reminds me of Edgar Rice Burroughs and the coincidental events and impossible rescues seen in the Tarzan books.

Enjoyed this second installment in the series. Not quite the page turner that the first one was but I still enjoy the main character and will continue on to the next book in the series. So bottom line: if you liked the first volume you will like this one also.

Take the Stockman's Assn & One Globe, remove the literal murders and you have the current leadership and board of Environmental Action Committee of West Marin's Amy Trainer & Bridger Mitchell; the National Parks Conservation Association's Neal Desai; the Point Reyes National Seashore's past superintendent Don Neubacher & current superintendent Cicely Muldoon plus their scientists Dr Ben Becker, Dr Sarah Allen and David Press who concocted the false scientific reports on the historic mom and pop Drakes Bay Oyster Farm. Oh, we cannot forget the damage caused by the California Coastal Commission who's kangaroo court ruling was overturned in Marin Superior court by the one honest judge who did his own homework, didn't rule on propaganda, but on the facts!

Now, with the removal of the oyster farm, those organizations can set their sights on the mom & pop, historic farms, ranches, and dairies surrounding Drakes estero to have them removed. The ones beyond the reach of the soon to be claimed "harmful runoff" have been targeted by the PRNS's refusal to implement the Elk Management Plan and instead call for a new plan while the elk overrun the ranches.

Joe Pickett is the male version of Anna Pidgeon. CJ Box certainly has living in Wyoming pegged. Having lived in his area for a couple of years, I could really visualize his story telling. I will read all in this series.

I have only recently started reading the Joe Pickett books, and I am planning to read them all. I really enjoy the way C. J. Box writes. The descriptions of the countryside make you think you're there, and the story lines are always interesting.

Another adventure of the GOOD guy, Joe Pickett and his accidental run for his life with environmental activists.
This novel set in the high mountains of Wyoming, has the reader waiting breathlessly to see if Joe can survive.
