This like the other works created by Dr. Hawkins is extraordinary. His clarity and deepth of understanding makes the subject of enlightenment easier to process. His map of consciousness brings clarity to a seemingly complex subject. Dr. Hawkins is a light house in the middle of the night!

As another reviewer stated, this is pseudoscience. I am open-minded to some ideas with limited evidence because in those cases the absence of evidence could just mean that it needs to be studied more (unless there have been well-designed studies that actually disprove the idea). But here the author has created a mostly subjective framework and organized it and used big words to make it sound scientific to less educated readers. There are still some valuable ideas here but I wish the author had just communicated them honestly and subjectively rather than trying to impress people with very questionable and unprovable pseudoscientific claims.

Wonderful book. Scientifically based and a good read. Breaks down the levels in a clear readable method. Most of this realm is an unknown as it is anyway. Definitely will open your mind to a expanded perspective.

This book is a must read for the serious spiritual seeker. Everytime I read it, I learn new things. It seems that topics present themselves for my learning as my levels of consciousness change. Topics I didn't notice before now seem appropriate for exploration. Fabulous book.

Author's knowledge of this subject seems to be second to none. Information presented really helps descibe spirituality that religion does not really descibe very well, and how a beings' spirituality is linked to Divinity.

Don't feel special.. just because you think you are enlightened.. The minute you feel SMUG.. The universe will knock you off your axis..
FOR ADVANCE TRUTH SEEKERS.. It will not clash with Christianity unless you are smug.

Transcending the Levels of Conciousness is the prolific author's latest book of Jan.2006. I fully agree with the first two reviewers. It has been described as a practical manual...yes but it's much more, covering a lot of territory. As it is focused on conciousness studies and personal growth, it will (happily) not be a source of controversy. Here Dr.Hawkins expands his insights, analogies and descriptions even more in this very useful companion to the previous books, yet it can stand alone...a wealth of information. Each chapter begins with an overview putting all in context. Seventeen aspects of conciousness are described, and even brain function research. And 29 tables are provided, including some Q&A, many more tips for students and also updated info about the muscle testing technique in Appendix C. Again Dr.Hawkins explains the unexplainable with his marvelous vocabulary, always very at home with the abstract & subjective experience, providing delightful and mind boggling concepts of creation, matter, space and time. Inspiring and user friendly.

This book is absolutely the most significant roadmap to spiritual progress I can imagine. I have the whole series of his profound lectures (of 2004)on DVD, so I was amazed at how this book proved to further clearify! Here is a methaphor for the clearity of Dr.Hawkins guide to transending the levels of consciousness:
A few years ago, when the technology came out, my husband called me to look at how our address googled via satelite. I was stunned in perceiving how a broad view of the world became refined to the point where the roof tiles and every tree in our yard was there for all to see. This is the clearity and refinement Dr.Hawkins brings to Transcending the Levels of Consciousness.
And by the way, for any of you kinesiology sceptics out there, my suggestion is to just put that on the back-burner.(That is what I have done). Do not let anything deter you from the profound transformative power of this book.

Spiritual persons often hear of "raising our level of consciousness". But what does that mean, really? This book which explains how to transcend levels of consciousness is part of a series of books by the author but is complete in itself.
Section One of the book describes the calibration levels below 200: levels of "falsehood", pertaining to the ego. Section Two deals with calibration levels from 200 to 499, the linear mind. Levels 500 to 599 brings us closer to the true spiritual levels of Love in Section Three. The highest levels of calibration for humans (up to 1000) are described in Section Four. Finally, Section Five is a quick guide to transcending all the levels with simple principles. The Appendices contains a Map of Consciousness, the tool of applied kinesiology on which the map is based, a short autobiography of the author, etc.
This one is a book with the interesting idea of charting spiritual evolution for humans. Just by reading "Transcending the Levels of Consciousness", a spiritually oriented person could raise his consciousness levels. The last chapter consisting of suggestions to raise consciousness is extremely useful.
As you read, you will find many questionable statements. The author explains his calibration levels as "not being the result of Reason of Logic nor as being judgmental". However, as soon as you put something in levels, on a scale, and you begin to try to explain it, you are doing just that: rating, using duality (truth-falsehood claims), certainly using Reason and yes, being judgmental. It has been my personal experience that certain people who follow closely David Hawkins as a teacher tend to dismiss individuals whom they think "calibrate" below 200 and they constantly try to rate themselves and others. That is the underbelly of that kind of grading system and I find it does not fit very well with spiritual wisdom to take it at face value. The author also rates his books highly (higher than many old spiritual scriptures even) using his own method, call it scientific and rejects criticism by rating it below 200 (level of falsehood).
It would be too long to go over all the statements the book contains but I suggest you do a search on the internet to see what it's all about. The book has an intrinsic value for the spiritual seeker and other interested persons, is well-written and complex but know that you may find yourself questioning the value of many statements and even the method it is based on.

If your interests include both psychology and spirituality, this book is a perfect match. After you've absorbed it, you will know very precisely your position, the position of others, and all important waypoints on the map of consciousness. It will lead you very close to the "treasure" that you seek.
Hawkins gives us his most articulate and well-organized writing here. He provides a detailed psychoanalysis of each of the levels of consciousness, an explanation of the dualities and obstructions for each, and techniques for advancing to higher levels. Woven through the erudite and at times rather technical psychological treatment is the spiritual viewpoint. I found it useful not only for internal spiritual progress, but for better understanding the behavior and thinking of other people in my life who could help, or hinder, my progress. It's a must-read.

I really enjoyed this book, and other books by Hawkins. Very useful and worthwhile in describing and explaining the different states of consciousness that can go with the different stages of consciousness. But since he only focuses on state levels, his work is true but partial. This is how it is, but I did wish that his teachings were more fuller, more comprehensive in enlightenment teachings. But that is what other books do, especially ones like Integral Spirituality, which is a more fuller, comprehensive book on enlightenment and levels of consciousness. Nevertheless, I do rate this book high as it is good enough as a primer for these different levels. Certainly not a be all and end all book though, that would be False, and which calibrates as such, but True as a excellent primer!

Dr. Hawkins latest book is monumental. He reduces all of the previous spiritually derived writings throughout the ages to easily understandable language for the ordinary ego-mind. Contrary to some reviews that posit this book is for advanced spiritual devotees only, I wholeheartedly disagree. The mere reading of this work will materially advance one's LoC (level of consciousness), and simple conscious practicing of the "rules" (pg 333) will accelerate one's progress separate from the more rigorous meditative practices. These teachings about manifest reality and how it comes to be should replace all of the nonsensical "education" America provides K-12. Imagine the possibilities, if you will.

As a physician who is very interested in spirituality I was eager to read Hawkins work. What a disappointment! He has taken some worthy mystical concepts and created a weird pseudoscientific approach which has no research validity. This book is frightening since he apparently has a large following. Hope he doesn't start a "Hawkinsville."
