I just love Mary Norton's stories. The characters are wonderfully funny and this book was just as good as the first one. I read the Borrowers a lot when I was a child, but this was the first time I've read the Borrowers Afield. I bought it as a birthday present for my daughter, and couldn't help reading it secretly before it was time to give it to her. I can't wait to share it with her!

The story is told in such a refreshing, wonderful way compared to so many modern stories. One thing I really like about her writing is that it reminds me a little of a play - the settings are simple and don't change much, and most of the story is in the dialogue and interactions between the characters. I wonder how much that has to do with the fact that she was an actress.

It was really good I purchased all the ebooks for Borrowers. It reminded of The Littles. I think the littles was based on Borrowers. Rereading alot on ebooks from grade school. When my granddaughter is here we will be reading these. Her mother does dvds. She needs to work on her reading. I think reading is one of the most foundation to all learning.

Initials thoughts: I can't recall the plot details now, some 40 years later, but I have a very positive memory about this childhood read that has stayed with me. I found it intriguing and delightful. Didn't know it was a series, but would like to browse through the original and get reaquainted with the book.

Update March 2015: A.wonderful reread. I can see why I loved it as a girl. Well written story and characters. Glad I revisited it. ( )

Really enchanting, with beautiful imagery. The creativity of Pod, Homily, and Arriety will inspire you imagine what borrowings would you use from your own home.
Not far off from the Ghibli film, equally as innocent and fun.

Started with Borrowers Afield and had to get the other. At first it was a little hard to read out loud to my son because of the english slang here and there but I soon adapted. He became bored with it but I kept reading. So fun.

My family loved the Borrower's Series--even into adulthood! Each story is well written and filled with images. One feels as if one is a borrower themselves and can see the world through their eyes and miniature height. Great fun!

I read this book for a literature assignment in my LLSS class. I really enjoyed this book and within my group we were able to bring up many things that are related to the our lives. For example, we brought up the fact that the Clocks live underneath the humans and this is a representation of the poverty. Also with this point, we can say that yes, the Clocks are poor because they have to scrounge for left overs to survive. This sense of poverty is very real, and it is something that many people face, so it should be talked about in the classroom. Another thing we brought up was that because this book is part of a series this book ends in a very vague way, leaving a lot of room for different interpretations. If I was teaching this book, I would not read the whole book, so this vague ending could be very fun to play off of and have the kids form their own interpretations. One other thing we enjoyed about the book were the pictures. They were drawn in a lot of detail, and without color, so this leaves room for different interpretations as well.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book and would recommend this book to other people.
