I enjoyed how the story was woven together using the time travel concept. The characters came alive from the pages. The author wastes no time capturing the reader's interest. I plan to read the other books in this series.

Loved the complete story. Immediately liked the characters but felt a bit more development of their backgrounds was needed.
I enjoyed the withholding of parts of the story lines. This built suspense.

I enjoyed the characters many of whom reminded me of Sara Donati's Into the Wilderness. The story was enjoyable but sometimes repetitive and, with the time travel element, a little convoluted. But overall entertaining enough.

I very much enjoyed this book! The time travel genre is a favorite of mine, having been a fan of Diana Gabaldon's books for many years. Katherine Logan's writing is clear, evocative, and her characters are well developed. Just finished reading the sequel and am looking forward to her next book, The Sapphire Brooch!

Thank goodness e books have allowed authors to self-publish! I really felt like I was traveling back in time with the main character. The author takes you on a journey from 21st century Kentucky to 19th century Missouri, the Oregon Trail, and back again. Looking forward to the sequels Logan has planned. I really haven't enjoyed another "across-time" romance since the Outlander series, but this one is worth the read.

After two disappointing books by other famous writers, I had little hope this would be a captivating story. I was more than surprised. One of the best stories ever put to paper. The author's literary prowess is second only to her storytelling skills.

Love this story. The characters are fascinating and could not put down the book or kindle. The story line of each of the characters are so interesting and I felt like they were part of my family. I miss the main character already and wish the story would not end. Highly recommend this book.

This book moves you quickly through early 19th century, describing some of the hardships and heartbreak that came with traveling with a wagon train across the Oregon Trail, while weaving true love and romance. I read for entertainment, and this book is truly entertaining with very few pages that you feel you can skip!

Purchased this book after reading part of it in a box set of others.
Was constantly cheering for the different players as the plot unfolded,
a real page turner.
Made me laugh at times and cry at others, so well written I couldn't put it down.
What happened to Sarah and family or is that another story ?
Look forward to reading more about Elliott and Meredith after yet another teaser preview.
would highly recomend
Thank you

I really enjoy books that take place in the present and past (Susanna Kearsley is one of my favorite authors) and this book had that element and also extremely likable characters. The book had everything I enjoy - romance, humor, action, history, etc. I look forward to reading The Last MacKlenna.

This was very different but exciting book. I can't say much about the story, for I would not want to give anything away. I would give this a very high five star. Sorry I can explain more about the book, but it would take all the excitement out of the plot.

I really enjoyed this book. The twist of the moving into the past with full knowledge, and the way I wanted the romance to work out, but didn't know how it would, intrigued me. I found the style of writing flowed well, and I am looking forward to the next books in the trilogy. Congratulations, Katherine - great idea for the series.

Very unique story line, with a great plot, weaving the past, present and "ghosts". I'm interested in past life sort of things, so this was a great read. Well written and it was NOT the normal, mindless romance novel. I look forward to the next in the series and hope they come out soon!

The book starts off pretty fast. Many things are not explained and strange events are believed without question. I almost stop reading the book, but decided to continue reading. The book quickly changes tone and I completely enjoyed it. I found the characters to be believable and the love story was well done.

As an avid reader, I sometimes get caught reading to read. But this book was something special. I could not put it down. The main characters and secondary ones were so developed that they seemed completely real. I felt their pain and joy.I did not want the book to end. Thankfully, there are 3 more books in the series.

This story takes you into the lives of each character and you know them. I found myself feeling what each felt. The author definitely had this thought out in vivid details. Reading a story such as this time stands still. What a fine read this was.

Katherine Logan has a recipe for a delicious treat. She bridges the modern world and the one of pioneers with a longing you can sense throughout the book. The Celtic connection will be special to anyone who loves the romance of the Irish and you'll embrace the characters no matter what time they live in.

But felt the romance part wasn't very believable. The final chapters were not as well written as the beginning. I didn't really like the end. If historical romance is what you like then you will disagree with me. I would have preferred a mystery. The main character is not very believable.

I love time travel books, this one has such realism that I thought I could smell the dust of the Oregon Trail.Kit being a paramedic made the journey safer for the family she joins on the trail.I look forward to the rest of the series.

I loved the time travel device in the Outlander series, and I liked this one as well. Simple. Magical. No big explanations. The story of Kit and her background was an engaging tale told with spirit and passion. The characters were largely nuanced and believable, but could have been developed more. Sarah was just toooo good. Loved her, but she needed to throw a pan or smash a branch against the tree at least once. And Cullen, old world background and all, should have had a bit more trouble accepting a woman with views. Still, I loved the premise and the story kept me reading, so I will likely pick up the second in the trilogy, too.

However, even though parts of the book were clearly researched thoroughly, the anachronisms that plague many time travel stories popped up here, too. When Kit uses 21st century language early on, no one reacts. Oh, once in a while, once she is accepted for who she is, someone might ask her about it. But initially, nope. That bothered me. Same with clothing, skin, teeth.Would you have taken a thong on a trip to find your identity. Really? And the batteries last a really long time (even given her solar power explanation). Just how did she expose them to the sun with all those folks around?

Also ignored was the reality of you change one thing, you change many things. Her presence in the past disrupted past history, and even more so when she purposely intervened. I have trouble with that being addressed a couple of times and superficially then.

The Ruby Brooch is a book filled with tender love stories, where modern day intertwines with the 1850s. Katherine has a way of weaving a story that draws you in and carries you along on an amazing journey. You will fall in love with her characters, cry with them, celebrate their victories, and wish the story wasn't over when the book is done.

After investing countless hours reading books with implausible plots and inane characters, I was so pleased to find a story I could truly enjoy! Being from Kentucky and working in the medical field, I was initially worried that I would spend my time picking apart the storyline. But this author really captured the feel of a bluegrass country farm. And the twists and turns in the plot were both believable and interesting. She shows the tremendous attention to detail that time travel stories require. Kept thinking this would be a great miniseries while reading it. Can't wait for the next installment!

This was an enjoyable book. The story was interesting and the details show it was thoroughly researched. The author seemed to try a little too hard to be fancy with some descriptions but it wasn't enough that it took me out of the story. I liked the characters. I will be reading the next in the series.

Very much enjoyed this book.....from beginning to end. Just the right amount of romance thrown in with historical adventure. I was so excited when I finished this book to discover that the second book from this series had just been released ("The Last Macklenna") that I loved even more than the first! Can't wait for the next two to come out. Kathlerine Lowry Logan is definitely a new favourite author of mine.
