I enjoyed the book and have looked at several other titles by this author. I'm a bit in between authors right now as I haven't found one I want to stay with. I guess I'll go back to U.S. History for a while.

This book is a roller coaster of emotions taking the reader through happiness, sadness, anger, horror, disgust, retribution, and finally reconciliation. C. J. Box is master with his unique ability to hold the reader's interest and an "I can't wait for the next book"attitude.

Read Box from the beginning. Each story builds from the prior book. There is something about a mystery set in a western high mountain setting that involves ordinary people gone wrong ... and a truly good guy who upholds the laws and yet has an intriguing sense of justice.

I love the Joe Pickett novels ... they're always page turners
and he doesn't give away the "bad guy" until late in the
book. The description of his love for his kids and wife
is so real ... you feel his love and also his pain. I would
recommend this book.

I wish everyman was like Joe Pickett. His conscience and above average values transforms him into a hero of the world in which he lives. I like to think there is someone out in the West that truly cares for the land and its inhabitants. I plan on reading all the Joe Pickett novels.

A different angle of Government inte-ragency relationships. As the great grandson - both sides - homesteaded the area
it was fun letting my mind chose where Saddlestring would be, if it existed.. Who knows, it might not be too far from the Legendary Lost Cabin Gold Mine.

As always, very well written. By the time you get to the last page, you want another episode to start. Love the way he characterizes Wyoming and its people. I have lived here all my life and have seen most of the areas he covers in his books. Awesome.

Another taut well-written story about a good, down-to-earth man who is faced with impossible choices and does his best to find the lightest "grey" areas between black and white. As a voracious reader, I highly recommend all of Box's books.

While the best part of the latest Pickett tale may be the majestic scenery, there is no doubt that Box can spin a yarn. Melinda Strickland is so evil you can taste it. However, there's a fine edge separating evil and parody of evil. She, along with some of the rest of the cast, are put in situations that cross the line. My recommendation? If you find yourself among the skeptics as I did, just think about the scenery. You'll be too cold to worry about credulity.
