I. Love. Hockey romances! As I write this review, hockey season is just about to start, and the energy from this story perfectly compliments that anticipatory pre-season buzz. Rookie Move is the first in the new Brooklyn Bruisers hockey romance series by Sarina Bowen. The same Sarina Bowen who is half of the award-winning author duo that penned the very memorable Him, one of the first male-male romances ever to win a RITA and the GraveTells Book of the Year for 2015. So you could say I went into this read with high expectations. *wink*

Georgia, adorably, is a dumpling-loving, adrenaline-chasing, totally capable chick who is working her bottom off to make her temporary promotion as head of PR for the Brooklyn Bruisers hockey club a permanent deal. Her dad getting hired as the new head coach and calling her 'princess' at the office isn't so great for her iron image, and now the love of her life—whom she dumped in high school, shattering his heart—is a brand new rookie on the team. Can't ask for much more of a perfect setup for a steamy sports romance than that! Throw in a data-obsessed internet billionaire who dances to his own tune, a locker room full of surly pranksters, and just about the best friend a girl could ask for, and this series has a ton of potential.

I loved that even though Leo and Georgia dated in the past, they parted pseudo-amicably and he's not the bad guy of the story. Right from the start, I sympathized with both of them for the sad way things ended between them all those years ago, and I respected the people they have worked hard to become.

Oh, so many feels!! The emotional arc in this story is on point. Something very bad and very personal happened to Georgia in high school, and it affected all their lives—hers, Leo's, her dad's—in foundation shaking ways. And for Leo, that trauma formed hidden cracks, micro fissures just waiting for the right catalyst to bust open. This story shimmers with emotion, with love and fear and history and need. I can't get over what a good guy Leo is. He just never gives up, and he turns every negative into a positive. He's real and sympathetic and so so strong.

If hockey romance is one of your vices, buying this book is an easy choice. DO IT. NOW! If you're not really into sports or the hockey thing, DO IT ANYWAY! Rookie Move transcends genre boundaries. It is simply great. So I'll put it this way: If feels are your thing, this is your book. =)

Rookie Move (Brooklyn Brusiers #1) by Sarina Bowen is a lovers reunited/ sports romance with one of the best heroes I’ve read all year. I really enjoyed the hockey culture set in Brooklyn, NY, and the main couple who are adorable together, especially the aw shucks, completely loyal to the heroine hero, who loves calling the heroine, “my girl” even though they were high school sweethearts who broke up before college.

Georgia works for the Brooklyn Bruisers, a renamed hockey team that was bought by a billionaire. Her father is their new coach, and she does most of the PR, hoping for the top publicist spot. She loves her job, but it becomes a lot harder for her when her former high school sweetheart, Leo is brought on the team. He’s the new rookie who has his work cut out for him. Not only does he have to show how talented he is so he doesn’t get cut or traded, but deal with a coach who hates his guts, and Georgia, his one true love. She was the girl who got away. He wanted to marry her even back in high school, but when she’s raped her senior year, she ends up breaking up with him. Now that he’s back, he’s going to fight for them because they deserve to be together.

Georgia is under a lot of stress because not only does she have to prove herself (much like Leo does), she has to be the buffer between her father and Leo. Her father can’t stand Leo, for reasons that are explained toward the end of the story, but she is trying to keep Leo at arm’s length. It’s obvious he wants her back, and will pull out all the stops to show her how much he still loves her. She wants to keep it professional because she doesn’t date hockey players, especially ones for the team she works for, but Leo breaks down her defenses.

Soon these two can’t keep their hands off of one another, but they have to keep their second chance at love affair a secret until the trade deadline passes, and keep Georgia’s father in the dark, who blames Leo for leaving Georgia after her assault without a care.

Rookie Move is the perfect romance for hockey fans ala romance author, Rachel Gibson. Leo is the type of hero you want to put in your pocket and hold close because he’s so cute, sweet, and beyond smitten with Georgia. She can’t help herself but fall in his arms because he’s so wonderful. Leo straddles the middle between a beta and an alpha. When these two hit the sheets, it’s scorching. No complaints there.

The only issue I had is that Georgie’s rape in high school is glossed over. It’s mention a few times, but feels unresolved. All we know is that she went away for some sort of camp on a college campus one weekend and was raped. It’s the catalyst that tears her and Leo apart, but it felt tacked on just to give a reason why these two broke up. I wanted more of a resolution on Georgia’s trauma, and why her father seems to hate Leo, as if he was the reason for Georgia’s attack.

Rookie Move is a solid romance with a loveable hero who I couldn’t get enough of. This is a great start to a sports hockey series I can’t wait to continuing reading.

I have dubbed the summer of 2016 “The Summer of Sarina”. I read (ok, devoured) and immediately fell in love with Griffin and Jude from the True North series earlier this summer. Then I read Rookie Move and the trend continued. I can safely add Leo Trevi to that 'love list'. He’s just so sweet and swoony, and not to mention, hot!

Leo is a hockey player for a farm team when he is called up to the ‘big leagues’. It’s been his lifelong dream to play in the NHL, so it’s a big deal as well as a lot of pressure. However, the same day that he is brought onto the Brooklyn team, his ex-girlfriend’s father is named the new coach. Unfortunately for Leo, Coach hates him. That's not the only thing causing stress for Leo, though.

Leo’s ex-girlfriend, Georgia, is also the publicist for the Brooklyn Bruisers. She’s been trying to prove herself to the owner and seems to be on the track to success. When Leo shows up as the newest rookie, Georgia doesn’t know how to handle his reappearance in her life. They broke up on their high school graduation day and haven’t spoken since.

I loved Rookie Move. It combines my love of second-chance romance with sports romances, my most favorite trope. Things between Leo and Georgia have been unresolved for so long, I knew it was going to be so good to see them figure out how to coexist with the new working situation and also work through their past. There was just enough tension between Leo and the Coach, Leo and the team, and then Leo and Georgia to make it a bit suspenseful and not overly angsty.

Rookie Move is the start of a new series and it’s a great one. I highly recommend it if, like me, you are a fan of swoony and hot second-chance/sports romances. I am really looking forward to the next book, Hard Hitter, which is team captain Patrick O'Doul’s story. Bring on more of the hockey goodness!

Rookie Move by Sarina Bowen
Book One of the Brooklyn Bruisers series
Publisher: Berkley
Publication Date: September 6, 2016
Rating: 4 stars
Source: eARC from NetGalley

Summary (from Goodreads):

In high school they were the perfect couple—until the day Georgia left Leo in the cold...

Hockey player Leo Trevi has spent the last six years trying to do two things: get over the girl who broke his heart, and succeed in the NHL. But on the first day he’s called up to the newly franchised Brooklyn Bruisers, Leo gets checked on both sides, first by the team’s coach—who has a long simmering grudge, and then by the Bruisers’ sexy, icy publicist—his former girlfriend Georgia Worthington.

Saying goodbye to Leo was one of the hardest things Georgia ever had to do—and saying hello again isn’t much easier. Georgia is determined to keep their relationship strictly professional, but when a press conference microphone catches Leo declaring his feelings for her, things get really personal, really fast...

What I Liked:

This is the first book I've read by Sarina Bowen, and I liked it! I usually enjoy sports romances, especially ones featuring hockey players. Many of my blogger friends have enjoyed Bowen's other novels, and so I was happy when this novel did not disappoint me!

In this novel, the publicist of a hockey team gets the shock of her life when a new player is signed on the team, and that player happens to be the boy she dumped six years ago, Leo Trevi. Leo is determined to make an impression on this team and coach, but it's hard to ignore the girl that gave him the boot six years ago. He never stopped loving her or wanting her, and his stubbornness hasn't changed. Leo and Georgia were always the perfect couple - did the flames ever die?

I have a love-hate relationship with second-chance romances. It's not my favorite romance trope, though I do enjoy it. I've struggled with the most recent second-chance romance novels I've read. In this one, the girl breaks up with the boy, and the reason makes me sad. Georgia is raped during tennis camp the summer before her senior year. Leo never leaves her side, and is with her through thick and thin. Georgia wouldn't have survived the year without him, but she decides to break things off. Now, six years, later, he's back, and he's even more irresistible than ever.

Leo is... well, he's probably on my top ten favorite male heroines of adult romance novels I've read in 2016. He's sweet and patient, yet stubborn and willful. He's charming, and he's hard-working. It's clear that he loves his sport and he values his spot on the team. But it's also clear that he never stopped loving Georgia, and he doesn't want to stay away from her. It's his persistence that leads to the HEA, because Georgia was resistant at first.

I was a little hesitant in liking Georgia at first. Her reasoning for breaking up with Leo needed some work (in my opinion), and I found it hard to feel bad for her when Leo is signed on the team. At first, she is constantly annoyed around Leo, which isn't attractive. But I like how Leo's persistence and his kindness breaks her down. We see why she is scared to try again with him.

The romance is sweet, and definitely steamy, and I was rooting for Leo and Georgia. I'm glad that the romance is linear and not too much drama-filled. There is an ex-girlfriend appearance on Leo's side, and then one of Leo's teammates makes a pass at Georgia, but there is no possibility of a love triangle or anything. I liked the romance, and the progression of Leo and Georgia's relationship.

There are some tough issues that Leo and Georgia have to work through, but I liked that the rape wasn't made the center of the story. Yes, the breakup revolved around the rape, but I'm glad the author didn't turn this (steamy) novel into a tragic and depressing story. But I'm also glad to see Georgia and Leo work through their issues together.

Overall, the romance was well-written and enjoyable. I liked the large presence of hockey in the book (I love hockey!). There were a number of steamy scenes in the book, and a lot of cute and funny moments too. A good mix of everything, really.

What I Did Not Like:

Like I said above, I hesitated to like Georgia at first. In the end, I liked her, but I had a hard time summoning sympathy for her when it came to Leo. SHE dumped him - but HE'S the one pursuing her and practically begging. In my opinion, she's the one who should be begging for his attention... not the other way around.

But it's hard not to adore Leo's persistence. Good for him!

Would I Recommend It:

If you like adult romance novels, especially sports romance novels, this is definitely one for you. I can't speak for Bowen's past works, but this one is well-written and definitely shows her skills as a romance writer. It almost reminded me of a certain New Adult novel (The Deal by Elle Kennedy)!

Rating:

4 stars. I'm looking forward to reading Hard Hitter! O'Doul is next up, and I'm sure the captain will have quite a story.

4 second chance stars!

"If you want to keep breathing, don't ever call the love of my life a bitch."

Rookie Move is the story of Leo Trevi and Georgia Worthington. Back in the day they were high school sweethearts very much in love, until a tragic event rocked Georgia's world and she broke up with Leo on graduation day.

Now six years later Leo has been drafted into the NHL, and to the very team that Georgia works as the PR representative, the Brooklyn Bruisers. After six years of not even speaking, the two already know they have left too many things unresolved. But Leo knows that Georgia is the only woman he has had this kind of connection with, but it's up to Georgia to decide if she wants to be back with Leo as well.

I have yet to read a Sarina Bowen book I haven't enjoyed, she has a way of hitting my sweet spot when I didn't even think it was there. Second chance romance is also my favorite romantic trope, and I loved Georgia and Leo's story. There was a lot of depth between them, probably because of their past history together, but even through the book I could feel the pull between the two of them.

For those of you who read The Ivy Years series, there are familiar faces, but this book is not a part of that series as this is adult romance and the other series was very much new adult. I do wish we had seen more of Leo and Georgia's relationship as teens in flashbacks, but otherwise this was a wonderful romance story many readers will love and enjoy.

Plus, I cannot wait for the next book! I am excited for that characters story.

"You and I don't have one-night stands. We have forever night stands."

Y’all ready for some Brooklyn Bruisers hockey? Sarina Bowen is easily one of my top go to authors. I just L.O.V.E. her writing, and she knows her sport! Sarina is one of those authors I just happened upon by chance and I encourage EVERYONE to read. She’s so talented; and I personally feel under recognized for her awesomeness.

This new series published by Berkley, is somewhat of a spinoff of her The Ivy Years (New Adult) series. We’ve known Leo Trevi as a starter on the Harkness (college) hockey team for awhile. He’s DJ’s older brother, and all this fun hotness as a secondary character, but he “dated” the most horrible girls. Gosh did he ever. We learned a bit about Leo and Georgia’s backstory in the THE FIFTEENTH MINUTE, however I feel this installment can easily be read without reading that book as a prequel.

Rookie Move is aptly named with Leo the newest player to the Brooklyn Bruisers line up and Georgia Worthington a PR rep for his new sports team hoping stay in her interim job as the department head. Both of them feel just a touch in over the head professionally. I know this is a contemporary romance but the characters are still young, new to their roles and I still feel the NA vibe. Which is great because I love that. The plot pairs a second-chance with a forbidden relationship (co-workers and a Dad/Coach situation). So many times in a second chance story one of them really screwed up in the past and has to grovel the whole book. That is not how this story unfolds. Leo was a great boy back then and he’s a sexier, bigger, albeit more determined man now. He’s just not giving in this time.  Georgia, I adore her character and resilience in the face of challenges before her. She’s an athlete in her own right and knows she can’t resist Leo Trevi in close quarters; though she tries!! Tons of romantic tension, and funny moments between these two.

What I really enjoyed about this book, was how a traumatic life event, can indirectly affect more than just the person that was victimized. It impacts everyone who cares for them. We know that in real life but it’s not often portrayed so honestly in fiction. This a beautiful story and great lead in to another amazing series from Sarina Bowen.

I actually really enjoyed this one, much to my surprise. I love sports romances, but am not big on hockey, so they're not always my favorite. But this one, even though it was focused on hockey, didn't make the sport the main focus of the book. Instead, it's a second chance romance with a lovable H/h and a supporting cast.

Leo was in love with his high school sweetheart - they were the perfect couple, even homecoming king/queen. They had been together for several years, but on graduation night, his girlfriend, Georgia, dumped him for no real reason. We later learn that Georgia had something terrible happen to her over Spring Break her senior year and it inevitably impacted their relationship.

Fast forward 6 years and Leo is the new rookie for the Brooklyn Bruisers NHL team. He doesn't find out until he gets there though that the new coach is Georgia's dad and the PR manager for the team is Georgia, so there's a lot of tension and awkward moments there. Georgia's dad just happens to hate Leo and they don't know why that is (until the end), so Leo is afraid of being traded and is doing his best to play to earn that spot on the team.

On top of the trying to prevent himself from being traded, he's still head over heels in love with Georgia. But she tries her best to avoid him, but the guy is pretty hard to avoid. Leo is sexy, alpha and certainly determined to make Georgia his again. I loved that he didn't just let her dump him as easily as she did in high school and figured things out himself and fought for her. I can't blame Georgia for being scared to start something with Leo. I can't even blame her for breaking up with him in high school over something that could have been prevented with simple communication. At that age, hormones and emotions get the best of you, so it's understandable.

This book certainly wasn't your 'sugar covered' romance - it addressed a tough topic, but did so in a way that showed Georgia overcame that and turned into a strong woman.

Leo was one of my favorite male characters in a book - he was utterly swoon-worthy and was so incredibly strong, gentle and caring at the same time.

I'll definitely continue to read future Sarina Bowen novels after finishing this one.

A secondary character from Fifteenth Minute is now in the spotlight in the NHL, as long as he doesn’t screw up before the trade deadline hits. I loved both Trevis in The Fifteenth Minute, and from the moment Georgia and Leo’s story was teased I wanted more of them.

Leo Trevi has his shot at the NHL, and is living his dreams. But his already unsettled move becomes even more off-balance when he meets the new coach and the PR manager, both blasts from his past.

Georgia Worthington has regretted breaking things off with Leo on the day of high school graduation, but still feels it was the right move at the time. Reeling from a night that left her living in fear, her best move was to make a clean break and start fresh in college, or so she thought. What she wasn’t expecting was to have to face the man in a professional capacity, nor did she expect to have a PR storm on her hands with his arrival in Brooklyn.

Even six years later, the chemistry between Leo and Georgia is combustible. While they may not have been on the same page about breaking up in the first place, it doesn’t take long for them to realize that the feelings still run deep. The drama between them is light, with very little angst.

The most drama and angst in this book come from outside the safety of their relationship: the team, trade deadlines, careers, and an angry father. While things between Georgia and Leo run fairly smooth, there are a lot of bumps going on around them. While Leo tries to settle into his new team dynamics (and makes several rookie mistakes along the way), Georgia is fighting to maintain control of the PR department she has been running on an interim basis.

This was a fast read that pulled me in quickly. Add in the team dynamics, the new set of side characters, and the second chance at happiness for these two that I didn’t want to put this book down. I am looking forward to more from the Bruisers as they find their balance as a team and as a sports family.

Rookie Move is the first book in Sarina Bowen’s Brooklyn Bruisers series, but if you’ve read her Ivy Years series, you know the leading man in this book- Leo Trevi. Leo is DJ’s older brother and was the captain of Harkness’ hockey team. Now he’s graduated and finally his dream has come true. He’s in the NHL. The Brooklyn Bruiser’s picked him up and he couldn’t be more excited. He’s starting fresh in Brooklyn, or so he thinks.

When Leo meets the team, he is greeted by not only the team, but his ex-girlfriend he’s never quite gotten over, Georgia Worthington. Georgia and Leo dated in high school. Leo thought it would be a forever kind of love, but something happened to Georgia that traumatized her and all he was worried about was her happiness.

Georgia and Leo may have been apart these last six years, but their connection and chemistry is still there. Leo is a fantastic character and a stand-up man. I loved how he was always there for Georgia, whether it was giving her the space she needed, or pushing her that little bit she needed to be pushed. Georgia had been through a lot and I loved her strength. They were great together and I hoped things would work out for these two.

This is a great start to Bowen’s new sports romance series. When I finished the book I was hoping the next one would be about O’Doul and sure enough, when I checked book 2 (Hard Hitter) and it said Patrick O’Doul, I squealed a little! I’m so excited! There were lots of great secondary characters- Silas, Becca, but O’Doul was by far my favorite.

Rookie Move is equal parts sweet and steamy. A great sports/second chance romance I would recommend.

This is quite a refreshing and pleasant sport romance full of humor and sexiness to boot. I can just see how Sarina set up the whole Bruiser team and have us panting for more of the hunky men meat.

Georgia and Leo used to be high school sweetheart until something awful happened to her and then their relationship suffered and ultimately ended. I'm glad that there isn't a long winded flashback that recount their past because honestly I much prefer to focus on the present.

Present time, Georgia is the Bruiser's PR and Leo is the new rookie. Add in Georgia's father as the Coach, who hates Leo's guts, we have quite a tense set up with the trio. Georgia can't believe Leo is back to invade her life and Leo wants to win back her girl and not get traded by her father. Easier said than done.

Although their past sounds painful to me, we didn't delved on much. This book is all about humor, the hockey, the team camaraderie and Leo and Georgia's sizzling sexual tension. The plot isn't thick with drama, but I enjoyed the pleasant journey of how Leo and Georgia finally come to terms with their past and feelings for each other. Each of the supporting characters are interesting and their personalities shone through. I'm begging for the remaining books of the series as I'm writing this review.

‘Rookie Move’ is the first book of ‘Brooklyn Bruisers’ series by Sarina Bowen. If you are fan of second chance and sports romance, this book is definitely for you. Our hero and heroine for the book are Leo Trevi and Georgia Worthington. If you read Sarina Bowen’s ‘Ivy Years’ series you are familiar with our hero. Leo was the captain of Harkness’ hockey team and after graduation he played for an AHL team in Michigan. But with one call his life takes a new turn and he find himself in NHL team Brooklyn Bruisers. He is happy that his hard work finally pays off and he is living his dream but what he didn’t expect is to see the love of his life right in front of him when he arrives to his new team.

Georgia Worthington is a publicist, who works for Brooklyn Bruisers. After the senior publicist quits, she becomes the interim senior publicist and her goal is to prove that she can handle the job so that she can become the senior publicist for the team. But everything gets little complicated when her first love starts playing for the team and her father becomes the head coach.

Leo and Georgia was high school sweethearts but on their senior year of high school, a tragic event, which causes Georgia to breakup with Leo on their graduation day, changes everything for them. After six years without any contact, they end up working in the same team. Leo is still struggling to understand why Georgia broke up with him and there are too many unresolved issues between them. But Leo is determined to get the bottom of these issues and win Georgia back. They are still in love with each other and even after six years their chemistry and connection is undeniable. Even after the things she has to go through, I loved how strong Georgia is now. She is smart and hardworking. As for Leo, he is just a great character. He is loving, supportive, considerate and stand-up guy. I loved how he always supported Georgia and tried to be there for her whenever she needs it. It was also really heartwarming to see after declaring his love and intentions, how he let Georgia to decide if she wants to be back with him without putting too much pressure on her.

On the other hand Leo’s only unresolved issues are not with Georgia. His new coach Karl Worthington, who used to be his mentor, hates him and he has no clue why. And his only problem is not Karl’s approval of his relationship with Georgia but also Karl has the power to trade him off without even giving him a proper chance. So both Georgia and Leo have their struggles and it was heartbreaking and sweet to see how they work through them.

I am not going to give away anything more so it is for you to find out what happened and how they overcome their struggles. But I will tell you the part that affected me the most. It is towards the end of the book. There is a part with O’Doul, Georgia, Leo and later on Karl and I was reading it with a huge lump in my throat and tears in my eyes, I felt heartbroken and felt their pain. I am not going to give away anything more but consider this as a caution that you might end up crying.

All in all I loved and really enjoyed ‘Rookie Move’. I also loved the secondary characters of the book. Becca was hilarious. I loved how she played cupid for Leo and Georgia. O’Doul, Silas and Nate were great too and while reading I was hoping they will get their stories too. Fortunately, next book of the series ‘Hard Hitter’ is about O’Doul. As for Becca, Nate and Silas, I still hope they get their own stories in the future. Second book of the series ‘Hard Hitter’ is already out, so you can enjoy O’Doul without waiting ? and the third book of the series ‘Pipe Dreams’ will be out in May 2017 so just two more months ? If you like second chance and sports romance and are looking for a sweet, steamy and heartwarming story, ‘Rookie Move’ is just for you.

Would I recommend this book: Yes.
Would I re-read this book: Yes.
Would I read future books by this author: Yes.

This review was written by Marie for a guest review post on Ever After Book Reviews blog:

5 Stars

I don’t typically pick sports-themed romances, and especially not ones involving hockey. It’s not because they aren’t well written books, I’m just not a huge fan of how the authors typically write their male sports players. They’re usually hot-headed and arrogant…which in a cutthroat billionaire trying to maintain power in a major corporation is extremely sexy and warranted, it doesn’t come across that way with sports players. It typically comes across as crass and…unattractive. So when I read the premise for Rookie Move, I was worried about this…but I was so intrigued, that I thought, “okay, I’ll bite.” I’m really glad I did.

This was my very first Sarina Bowen book, so I wasn’t sure what to expect with her writing style. After a few pages though, I knew she was my kind of writer, so I settled in and devoured this incredible book. For starters, this is some seriously solid writing. She takes her story and runs with it at a fantastic pace with beautifully seamless transitioning. It’s an exceptionally smooth read with even more impressive character development.

Speaking of characters, Leo and Georgia are sheer perfection. Georgia is a feisty, ambitious woman who is thwarted by fate bringing her back into the path of Leo – a determined and surprisingly sweet and charming man whose heart she broke so many years ago. But even after 6 years, Georgia and Leo are clearly still madly in love with one another. And what shocked me the most was how unbelievably sweet and charming Leo is. He has no ill will toward Georgia for breaking his heart. Instead, he wants to mend whatever caused the separation and pick up right where he left off, romancing her back into his good graces.

It’s a beautiful story that had me hooked. It’s an incredibly sweet romance, with a character that I judged way before I should have, and has me rethinking my entire attitude toward these types of stories. If there are other out there like Leo, sign me up. Because falling in love with him was easier than I ever would have dreamed!

Sarina Bowen writes wonderful couples that I really like and wish the very best.

This is the first entry in her new pro hockey series and its good. The sexual tension is off the charts and the sheer like between the characters let alone the love is grand.

However, I did get impatient with the book a bit. This series is a spin off from the Ivy League Years (id you haven't read these books, go now). So, I knew Leo's and Georgia's backstory and have an idea about each character coming into the book. I think without this knowledge I would have been happier.

As it was I was restless with wanting them to deal with what was between them and then frustrated that Georgia hadn't been doing more (or at least we don't get to see it when they were apart) and Leo doesn't seem to own up to his own very odd behavior with the ladies in the years since they have been together. I wanted that contended with as a series fan. It wasn't. I wanted to move to the being together faster.

There is extra drama with the heroine's father was not really needed and couple time could have taken its place.

There is an amazing scene that is so tender and real towards the end of the book that I loved when Georgia sees Leo's pain and he sees his own pain. More of that please. This is where I would have liked the book to build from and not come to an end.

So, the pacing was off in places but still such great characters and writing.

When Georgia Worthington dumped Leo Trevi on their graduation day from high school, not only did she break his heart, but it ruined the relationship he had with his hockey coach, her father. Coach Karl went from liking him to despising him, leaving Leo clueless to what happened. He treated Georgia like a queen. He loved her. He still doesn’t know what went wrong when he sees her six years later.

It’s been years since Georgia has seen Leo in the flesh, and the grown up Leo is better looking than the boy she’d dated and dumped. And now he’s the latest addition to the newest NHL franchise Brooklyn Bruisers, the team she’s employed by as their interim director of publicity—a position she hopes to make permanent. It’s also the team her father has just been hired to coach.

With Leo’s hire, things get interesting fast. Coach doesn’t want him on the team and Georgia is determined to keep things strictly professional between them. Something that becomes nearly impossible with Leo’s hot mic incident during their first press conference when he overhears his teammate calling Georgia a bitch on wheels.

“If you want to keep breathing, don’t ever call the love of my life a bitch.”
I thought that would be the ice breaker between them. It’s not. While they think about each other and about their shared past, they don’t actually have a real conversation until about a quarter into the book. And I’ll admit, I was getting antsy at that point.

Leo is a sweetheart. He’s not the one holding back. It’s Georgia. There’s her father and how he feels about Leo. Then there’s her career aspirations. But having to work with Leo is torture. She’s as hung up on him as he is on her.

The backdrop of their romance is set against the countdown to the NHL trade deadline. Will Coach Worthington push to trade him when it’s all said and done? That’s the big question and one that terrifies Georgia especially. To tell you the truth, at points along the way, I wish he would. I wanted Leo away from him, the jerk. I get that Georgia is his daughter and everything, but she’s twenty-four for goodness sake! And it’s not let she didn’t date Leo for three years in high school, most of which the coach liked him.

Luckily, details of a past event explains so much. Georgia’s skittishness. Her father’s about face regarding Leo, and what exactly went wrong with them back in high school. The bigger question is how will they be able to get past it. In that, I will just say I love Leo. He’s the kind of boyfriend/fiancé/husband any sane, warm-blooded woman would be lucky to have. Georgia, you’re a lucky woman. And she’s pretty resilient too. They do make a great couple.

Next up in Ms. Bowen’s Brooklyn Bruisers series is Ari, the team’s massage therapist, and Patrick O’Doul’s romance in Hard Hitter. I’m looking forward to reading it.

I love hockey romances. Like, REALLY love hockey romances. Elle Kennedy's Off-Campus series are some of my favorite books EVER. So when Sarah told me that she was approved for this book on Netgalley, I had to hop on a request a copy for myself. We decided to buddy read this book and I devoured this story in one glorious day.

After one devastating night as the victim of a crime as a senior in high school, Georgia came back home a different person. Leo was there for her whenever she needed him, but Georgia broke things off the day they grouted high school. Fast forward 6 years and Georgia has worked hard to earn her position in PR for the Brooklyn Bruisers and prove that she can handle the job. But when Leo walks in as the newest rookie, both of them are caught off guard. Leo never stopped loving Georgia while Georgia needs to try her best to keep things strictly professional. Leo is determined to prove himself to both his team and Georgia, and show them both that he really is worth keeping around.

Holy moly, Leo. So many romances depend on the bad guy trope where he is a womanizer who just so happens to meet the woman to tame him. Leo is NOTHING like that. He is so sweet and so caring and a very dedicated hockey player. He's not into sleeping around and would rather prove his love to the women he loves. The way he treated Georgia, even when she was pushing him away, was so cute. He was so so sweet and I just wanted to take him out of the book and keep him for myself.

As for the hockey part of the romance, the action was so spot on and I loved how much hockey we got. We got to see Leo in action and got to see many different games as Georgia went on the road with the team. Oh, and I thought it was so fun how Georgia's dad was the new coach for the hockey team. Could you imagine trying to perform well for your job when your dad is hired as the head coach and your ex-boyfriend is the new player on the team? But Georgia had such a great support group to help her through it. The side characters of this book were just perfection and impossible not to love. I can't wait for those characters to have their own books!

As far as sports romances go, this is definitely one of my favorites. With sexy and sweet hockey players, some PR nightmares, and some serious skills on and off the ice, Rookie Move is a must read!

If Sarina Bowen has a book out you know I want to read it. Rookie Move bridges the gap between her NA series, The Ivy League and this new adult series, Brooklyn Bruisers. If you read The Fifteenth Minute (Ivy League #5) you might remember Leo in there. He didn't have a big role in it but it set the stage for this next leap.

Georgia is a publicist with the brand new expansion team, Brooklyn Bruisers. Her plate is currently full because the head publicist left and she has to prove to her boss that she can handle the workload. She also has to prove that she can break away from her father's shadow who just happens to be the team's new coach. If that weren't enough pressure, she finds out at the last minute that the team's latest player acquisition is none other than her ex-boyfriend, Leo Trevi. As high school sweethearts they were on fire but Georgia ended things abruptly by the time they graduated. Georgia is a hot, blubbering mess initially until she regains control of her senses. Leo is kind, warm and patient. He never understood why she broke up with him so the situation is just as crazy for him as it is for her. The only difference is that he's willing to start over whereas she's feeling guilty and awkward about them working together. She tries to keep it professional at the office and cordial outside but they just have too much history between them (read: chemistry) for it to be ignored.

Folks, I don't necessarily get hockey but I appreciate the athleticism that's involved and the rabid fan base that surrounds it. Which is why I enjoy reading Bowen's series because she gives me just enough of hockey - the behind the scenes and the actual playing time - balanced by the main storyline. Something else I feel she does well is introducing social themes. She excels at showcasing life-changing events through someone else's eyes doing it respectfully and with finesse. (A shining example of this is, The Shameless Hour.) She does it here with Georgia's backstory which goes a long way to explaining why she and Leo fell apart. It'll make you look at these two differently seeing them with even more substance and depth.

Rookie Move has all the things you enjoy from Bowen - humor, action, romance and hot magic time! It's fun, too, when some of the characters from the Ivy League books pop in for a visit. Do I really need to say anymore? Now I just need to sit patiently and wait for the next one, Hard Hitter that comes out next year.

A whole herd of sexy hockey players, a second chance at romance, turmoil and humor, and amazing friends. Rookie Move was one heck of a start to the Brooklyn Bruisers series.

The quick of it is that Leo and Georgia were high school sweethearts but things went real bad and they've not seen each other since. Good riddance and all that. Damn their luck, though, he's just landed on the hockey team where she works as the team's PR person. And all those sticky emotions from the past and the luscious heat between them simmers up and makes things all kinds of deliciously complicated.

I really enjoyed Leo and Georgia. Neither has ever gotten over their relationship and breakup and I loved seeing them back in each other's space and trying to resist and of course falling because dang are they perfect fro each other. I liked that they both gave their all for their jobs and were passionate and kind. And their romance. Gah this guy. He's so damn sweet. He totally made me aw a couple times. There's some excellent heat, some pretty funny moments, and some really tough ones as they dealt with something in their past that really affected them both on many levels.

There was a lot of sports-ish stuff which was fun. Hockey games, team travel, trying to fit in with a new team (he was the rookie and just arrived), her work as their pr person and dealing with all kinds of team drama, the worries over being traded to another team. Posing in a naughty sports calendar for charity...yeah. That was a fun scene. It was all a nice backdrop to the romance and I really loved so many of the other players and coworkers.

The only thing I really didn't care for was the multiple detailed flashbacks and constant mentioning of them having sex as teenagers when they were in high school. It just icked me out and I wanted to yell at the book a couple times that I know yall messed around like bunnies when you were kids and it was AMAZING! please stop mentioning it and fantasizing about it because ew! I just don't need to be reading about 16-18 year olds getting each other off. No, ma'am. I sure don't. If that hadn't been included--or their sexual antics as kids had just been mentioned briefly--this would have been a 4.5 I think.

All in all, though, I really had a good time with Rookie Move. Bowen created a dynamic team that already has me addicted. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing what happens with all of them. Bring on the next player!

“She tasted like the happiest years of his life. She tasted like his.”

Ahhh Trevi! How much do I love you, Leo Trevi! So, here’s the deal, I love Sarina Bowen’s books and I live second chance romances and this book is both. So, I totally loved this book. If you’ve read The Ivy Years, then you’re somewhat familiar with Leo Trevi. He played college hockey at Harkness and his brother DJ was the hero in The Fifteenth Minute, which btw is one of my favorite books of 2015. Anyways, since I’m a huge fan of the Ivy Series, I was super looking forward to Rookie Move.

Rookie Move reunites Leo with his high school sweetheart Georgia. If you read The Fifteenth Minute you got some background on Leo and Georgia. If you didn’t, no worries, everything is explained here. So Leo is finally making his debut in the NHL with the Brooklyn Bruisers, and Georgia happens to be the team’s PR manager. When they see each other again, sparks fly. Poor Georgia has a ton of issues from her past (and present) she needs to overcome, but her feelings for Leo are definitely still there. And Leo, OMG Leo, is the swooniest!

“If you want to keep breathing, don’t ever call the love of my life a bitch.”

I loved Leo, for me, he made the book. I loved his conviction that he and Georgia needed to be together and that it was a fact that would happen. Super loved him!

“He and Georgia were going to get back together and stay that way. Maybe she didn’t quite realize it yet, but it was clear as ice to him. Their spark was still there, and stronger than ever.”

So, I absolutely loved almost everything about this book. The only reason why I didn’t rate this one 5 starts is because of all the references to Georgia’s heart. They were very, um, Anastasia from 50 Shades like. For example:

“Her heart rolled around in her chest like a milkmaid in a haystack.”

Besides that, this was an amazing read. Sarina is one of my automatic one-click authors and she definitely doesn’t disappoint. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series!

“You and I don’t have one-night stands. We have forever night stands.”

I love a good second chance romance story. Reading about two people separated by time and/or logistics, who now have the ability to reconnect for a potentially better future than they could've dreamed the first time around just makes all my feels happy. But, I've come to realize that there's one inherent flaw in this particular trope that you just can't get around.

In nearly all cases, someone was an idiot. Hence - the initial breakup.

Now, the idiocy is sometimes intentional, and other times it just can't be helped. But, in every case, it befalls our main couple because they couldn't just freaking talk to each other when it counted.

Case in point - Leo and Georgia.

You know what happens when you make assumptions? Yeah, well, when Leo and Georgia were 18, everyone made assumptions without hearing the truth, and as a result, they broke up and have spent the past six years in closeted misery. But the BEST part of the second chance romance trope is when the planets align and the two star-crossed lovers are thrust in each others' orbits once again, forcing them to finally do what they should've done all those years before. TALK. (Okay - and have lots of lets-get-reacquainted sex)

So, when Leo is brought up to play on the NHL team for which Georgia is the head publicist and her father is the head coach, things get really uncomfortable really quickly. Leo has never stopped loving Georgia, despite the fact that she broke his heart. So, he sees this as a sign that he's being given a second chance. Leo is an amazing man. He's sweet and determined and really only wants to see Georgia happy. And he is not willing to let her go this time, despite her efforts to the contrary.

I wanted to yell at Georgia so many times. This amazing man wants her. STILL. And, yet, she continues to find ways and reasons to keep her barriers up and shut him out. On top of that, it always frustrated me when she saw her father treating Leo like crap, and she did nothing about it. She mused about it - wondered why her father had it out for him. And, yet, she never pressed the issue, even though it obviously had to do with her and their past. How could it not?

As someone with a degree in public relations, I loved the peek inside that part of a professional sports team. It sounds like an incredibly challenging position, and I thought Sarina Bowen did a great job balancing that side with the players' side. Hockey fans will love this book. Heck - I loved this book, and I don't follow hockey at all.

Rookie Move was a fantastic start to this new series. Sarina Bowen treats her side characters with the same care as her main characters - they're colorful and multi-faceted and they all caught my interest. Which is great, since I'm assuming these characters, who are only peripheral ones in this book, will eventually get their own books. It makes me excited and anxious for the rest of their stories.

Regardless of whether you love hockey, if you love a hot romance with plenty of feels on the side, Rookie Move should find a home on your bookshelf.

Sarina Bowen starts a new series with the wonderfully romantic Rookie Move, set against the backdrop of the fictional NHL team franchise, the Brooklyn Bruisers.

Georgia Worthington is "number three" for the Bruisers, and although she hasn't officially been handled the title of director, she's in charge of publicity for the team. As she prepares for the press conference to announce the new coach of the team, who just happens to be her father, father and daugher are both in for a huge surprise.

Leo Trevi has worked hard to achieve his dream of playing in the NHL, working his way up through the minors to a position on the Bruisers. His world is about to tilt when he discovers his new coach hates him already and the woman who dumped him in high school works for the team.

So starts one of the most romantic sports books I've read this year. In this second chance story, Georgia and Leo have much to deal with -- he's a rookie with a coach who wants to trade him before he even gets to play, and she's still dealing with a very traumatic life-changing past. Rookie Move is the story of their road back to each other.

Leo is the star of the book, at least for me. He's the perfect alpha man -- strong and commanding when he needs to be, and super sexy and sensitive with those he loves. He had my heart early on and I just loved him more as the story progressed. Georgia also struck a chord with me -- she's focused on her career and has to deal with being a woman in a male oriented field. She's worked hard to get over what happened to her and not let it define her. It didn't take long for me to get invested in Leo and Georgia's happiness.

There's lots for Georgia and Leo to work through and Rookie Move deals with a lot of emotions in a very realistic and loving way that made my heart swell when it looked like they were making progress and hurt when they fell a step in their journey back together.

The Brooklyn Bruisers and the trade deadline give this book awesome pacing and made me feel like I had an insider's view of the team. Rookie Move also included some well-described on-ice scenes that I absolutely enjoyed. I love it when a sports romance actually includes some page time for the sport and Rookie Move had some really engaging on-ice and off-ice team scenes that I loved and don't want to spoil.

The team and it's management provide a nice set of likeable secondary characters (although I'm not sure about O'doul guy) and it was great to revisit with DJ from the Ivy Years series. I might be little partial to the team shrink too.*wink*

Sarina Bowen's story telling just gets better and better with each book I read from her. This is a fabulous start to this series. Readers are going to be fighting over Leo for book-boyfriend. Rookie Move left me with a huge smile on my face, and I can't ask for much more than that.

Recommended.

4 - "There's a real spark between us..." Stars!

The first book in Sarina Bowen's’ new Brooklyn Bruisers series, opened with a bang, and kept up a steady story pace until its end.

The author gave a great introduction to Georgia Worthington and Leo Trevi with an unfortunate microphone incident, and the story kept me entertained up until its end.

"Welcome to Brooklyn."

Second-chance-romance is always a favorite trope for me, and the five year separation for this pair, and the reasons for it, gave their reconnection a great depth, especially as the reasons for Gigi’s splitting up from Leo are bought to the fore, with the more time they spend together.

"Breaking up with him was something I did because I had to. Not because I didn’t love him."

I loved Leo, strong in stature and personality, he was also incredibly sweet and endearing when it came to getting it right with Georgia.

"You can run, but you can’t hide… Even if you give me the cold shoulder… Even if you go all shy on me. It’s on."

And like all good sports heroes, he was dirty perfection in the bedroom, sweet and sincere when the chips were down, but an absolute animal when it came to playing Ice-Hockey and being there on the ice for his Team-Mates.

I loved that all through everything they were dealing with together and with the team, his love and loyalty to her was paramount. The move to the Bruisers is a pretty big step up for him, and the struggle to prove his worth whilst trying to deal with the re-emergence of Georgia into his life, and the repercussions from it to the bigger picture gave this story lots of different side plots to keep it moving along.

Nobody had ever mattered to him the way Georgia did…

There were also more than a few moments that bought on the giggles, when he managed to inadvertently put his foot in things on a spectacular level, when trying to be honorable and do the right thing. Just an absolutely adorable guy for me.

"It’s been too long… I like having you beside me."

Rookie Move was a comprehensive introduction to the team and characters, lots of scope for many, many future books what with a whole host of sexy single Hockey Players for the author to work through, not to mention an intriguing young and relatively elusive team owner as well.

"Our time is now."

Hard Hitter is up next, due for release early 2017, Bruisers Team Captain; Patrick O'Doul featured quite a bit in this one, but the author did a great job of leaving you wanting in relation to getting to know him, so I am looking forward to seeing what story she has in store for him.

ARC generously provided, and it was my absolute pleasure to provide the above honest review.

ROOKIE MOVE is the first installment in Sarina Bowen’s contemporary, adult BROOKLYN BRUISERS hockey romance series focusing on the men and women of the professional hockey team of the same name. This is team publicist Georgia Worthington, and hockey player Leo Trevi’s story line. The Brooklyn Bruisers series is a spin off from Bowen’s The Ivy Years series but you do not have to have read the original series to follow. Some of the characters including Leo’s brother DJ cross over for cohesion and familiarity.

Told from dual third person perspectives ROOKIE MOVE is a story of second chances between NHL rookie Leo Trevi, and Brooklyn Bruisers’ interim director of public relations Georgia Worthington. Leo and Georgia were high school sweethearts making plans for the future when Georgia became the victim of a devastating assault just months before their graduation. Pushing the only man she would ever love out of her life was the most difficult decision she had ever made but fast forward six years, and she would have to face the man that she destroyed while trying to hold onto the career that is floundering out of control. What ensues is the rebuilding of the relationship between Leo and Georgia, and the destructive nature of misunderstanding when the team’s new coach is Georgia’s father-a man who doesn’t trust our story line hero with his only daughter.

There is plenty of history between Leo and Georgia that directly affects the relationship between Georgia’s father and his new rookie player. There is also plenty of misunderstanding, and a history of a lack of communication between the trio that plays havoc with the team and player morale. Georgia and Leo have never stopped loving one another and Leo intends to fight for Georgia even though our heroine continues to push Leo away fearing for both of their jobs. The $ex scenes are intimate and intense.

We are introduced to a number of the Brooklyn Bruisers hockey players, staff and owner. Georgia’s best friend and roommate Becca is also employed by the Brooklyn Bruisers; and Leo’s family, including his brother DJ, welcome our heroine back into the fold.

The world building takes the reader behind the scenes of a fictional profession hockey team: the players, the games, the competitive nature of the sport, and the friends and family who stand by their side. The locker room drama is limited; the puck-bunnies are few and far between.

ROOKIE MOVE is a story of second chances, romance and love. We are witness to the background dynamics of running a professional sports team, and the inherent quality of unconditional love. The premise is heartwarming and emotional; the characters are energetic and passionate; the romance is provocative and captivating. ROOKIE MOVE is a fantastic start to a new series.

ROOKIE MOVE is a second-chance romance between Leo and Georgia, who broke up after their high school graduation six years earlier and who are thrown together again when Leo is traded to the team Georgia works for.

I liked Georgia, who seems to have her life together despite what happened to her in her senior year of high school. She’s nice, loyal and very hard working, and given that she stupidly broke up with Leo to give him a happier life, I’d say she’s also self-sacrificing. As I said, I liked her, but compared to Leo, she’s a little forgettable. I absolutely loved Leo, who I thought was amazing and supportive and there’s no way Georgia could find herself a better guy. My heart broke for him so many times throughout this story. From the breakdown of their high school relationship. To how the new coach hated and treated him. To how he always seemed to make mistakes in front of the media. To his violent reaction when he thought Georgia was being attacked. His entry into the NHL should have been cause for celebration, but instead he felt like he couldn’t do anything right, and that everyone and everything was working against him. I seriously wanted to reach into my Kindle and give him a big hug. What I loved most about Leo though was that he never played games with Georgia and that he was not afraid to declare his feelings for her right from the start.

ROOKIE MOVE is the first book in the Brooklyn Bruisers series, where each book will be about a different couple. It’s told in dual POVs and while the ending was abrupt and didn’t come with an epilogue, it does end in a HEA for Leo and Georgia. I’ve read and loved all the books in The Ivy Years series and assumed I’d love this spin-off just as much. While I thought it was a good start to the series, I didn’t looooove it. I can’t pinpoint why, other than it didn’t grab me and refuse to let me go. I had no problem putting this book down and coming back to it later. That being said, I’m looking forward to HARD HITTER with O’Doul (the team’s captain) and Ari (the team’s wellness therapist). I wonder if we’ll see a book about the team’s owner, Nate, and his assistant, Becca, because I definitely got the feeling Nate has some unprofessional feelings towards his feisty assistant.

I’ve missed hockey romances so much! I haven’t read one in quite a while, so Rookie Move came at the perfect time. Plus, this one is a second chance romance, one of my favorite tropes, so how could I NOT enjoy it? If you’re a fan of the author or second chance romances, you need to get your hands on this book. It’s full of fun, flirty banter, a wicked sexy hero with a dirty mouth, and a sweet romance that will make your heart flutter. I seriously ADORED this book, and I can’t wait for more of the series!

Six years ago, Georgia Worthington broke both her and her high school sweetheart’s hearts when she left him. They haven’t spoken or heard from each other since, but right when Georgia is trying to prove her position as the Brooklyn Bruisers’ publicist, none other than Leo Trevi, the one love of her life, gets traded to the team. Georgia won’t let anything get in the way of her job, but Leo is hard to resist, so she has to avoid him as much as necessary. But Leo has other plans, one of which includes winning the love of his life back…

I had so much fun reading Rookie Move. It’s the perfect summery read – a heartwarming romance that will make you smile, some delicious chemistry that heats up the pages, and wonderful characters you can’t get enough of. I loved Leo so, so much. His dedication and love for Georgia, even after all those years, has never waned. He is the SWEETEST hero you will ever meet – and his being a hockey player is just a plus. ;) And Georgia herself is such a strong, independent woman, despite what happened to her in the past that caused her to break up with Leo. I felt for her, I hurt for her, I was happy for her. She made me feel so many emotions! These two are brilliant characters by themselves, but together, they are like magic.

This isn’t quite the 5 star read for me, because the third person POV isn’t my favorite, and I couldn’t really connect with the characters as much as I wish I did. But this is totally a me thing, and I have no doubt that tons of other readers will love this first Brooklyn Bruisers novel. I’m so excited to see what Sarina Bowen has in store for us next in the series! (And can Nate and Becca PLEASE have a book!?)

Rookie Move by Sarina Bowen.

This is the first standalone in a brand-spanking-new series by the brilliant Ms Bowen. When I first saw this book up on NetGalley, I requested it so fast, my finger hurt and was utterly honored to be selected to review.

This book is a gorgeous second-chance sports romance (perfect combination!) between Brooklyn Bruisers rookie, Leo Trevi and team publicist, Georgia Worthington. Leo and Georgia were so in love and only imagined a future with each other when their world was cruelly destroyed on the night Georgia was attacked. Events led to their breakup and now, six years later, they meet again on a professional level.

I adored Leo! I loved that he's not your typical player resisting love. No, he's always known Georgia was the love of his life and he just needed a chance to let her know that. His treatment of her was so so sweet. I couldn't help but fall in love with him and I think Leo is what every fictional male should aspire to be!

I could understand Georgia and the logic behind her reasoning and for pushing Leo away. I wanted to smack her, but I understood. She's a strong woman who has overcome something horrific and you can't forget that. She's also worked so hard to get where she is professionally and one has to admire that and appreciate why she's not willing to settle or give up.

Leo and Georgia belonged together and it was obvious from their first second encounter. The feelings were deep and so true that they couldn't be denied and damn the consequences. It was a beautiful second chance story that I enjoyed immensely.

I've come to realize that whatever Bowen chooses to write, whether it's a second chance romance or recovering addicts or sexy athletes, she, without fail, manages to paint a beautiful picture and get the reader invested from the word go. This first book in the new series was fantastic and one I absolutely recommend. I loved getting to know some of the secondary characters and am beyond eager for O'Doul's story next.

4,5 stars! Beautiful written, awesome characters and great story. My FIRST book from Sarina Bowen is a big success!

About the plot: Leo Trevi always dreamed to play in a professional league NHL. Now his hard work was going to pay off when he was recruited to Brooklyn Bruisers. It was supposed to be a new beginning, but he unexpectedly met there with the ghosts of the past. New team’s coach, who wears grudges to him, and team’s publicist, also known as his big love and ex-girlfriend.

Georgia Worthington broke his heart once, but hers also hasn't been unscathed. They were high school sweethearts, but circumstances caused that she pushed him away. At twenty-four she got the chance to be a temporarily senior publicist to the NHL team, and she was intended to stay a professional. But Leo also plans to take his chances, on the ice and in love.

Final thoughts: Beautifully written and developed story. A little slowly kicks off, but at least it is firmly placed in reality. Everything has its time and place. To that funny dialogues and a little angst enough to enrich the story and not make her exaggerated, created a great storyline.

Georgia and Leo are very likeable characters, it makes that you will firmly rooting for them while reading. And Leo is definitely swoon worthy. He is determined and sure of what he wants. His sweet ways to regain Georgia are wonderful and make you smile. Their chemistry is off the charts and they simply made to be together. I easily fell in love with them and their story.

It's light and sweet story, really have everything you are looking for in books like that. Something for fans of steamy second chances and funny sports romances. I can' t forget about a lot of great secondary characters, which promises a great start to the new series. And I already can't wait for more.

Standalone book 2 of Brooklyn Bruisers, Hard Hitter comes January 3rd 2017.

Sarina Bowen kicks off a new series with Rookie Move and I for one can’t wait for more. I loved this book and am already planning a re-read and counting down to the next book. I need more Brooklyn Bruisers in my life right now.

It was everything I wanted and more. Hot hockey players, ice action, a second chance at first love, hot hockey players, awesome friendships, Leo and have I mentioned hot hockey players? Hello!!!

Rookie Move is more than just a hockey book. It’s a second chance at your first and only true love book. Georgia and Leo will take you on a ride that will leave you hot, awing, a little anxious and totally engrossed their love story.

You see Georgia and Leo were once the perfect couple till a horrific event in their last year of high school ended up with them splitting up. Now six years later fate has brought them together again and the spark that was there before is back and hotter than ever. When Leo sets his sights on winning Georgia back, she doesn’t stand a chance. Let’s face it, why would she even try to resist, seriously, he’s hot and determined, enough said.

Now all they have to do is put their hearts on the line again while waiting the trade period to pass, for her job to become settled, for her father to get over his grudge against Leo and oh yeah, the past. Easy right?

There is just something about how Sarina Bowen writes that sucks you in and engages you to the point that you don’t want to leave the world she creates. Yes this book is that good. Bring on the next Bruiser to fall, I can’t wait.

I was lucky enough to receive a copy of this book from the author for review. Which I will be forever grateful for.

The Ivy Years series holds a special place in my heart. If you haven't read this series, please start there.

Rookie Move is a spin off from the Ivy Years series. Leo Trevi is DJ's brother (from The Fifteenth Minute). And oh man, I was SO excited to read about Leo and Georgia's story as we got some background in The Fifteenth Minute. This book can be read as a stand alone - but why would you want to miss out on Sarina Bowen's writing???

Rookie Move is all about second chance romance.

I LOVE Leo Trevi. He is so kind and honest. So sexy and hot. And he still has a thing for his high school sweetheart, Georgia.

Georgia is working on the hockey team as a publicist and her father is the new coach. As the rookie, Leo is hoping to get in good with the team and the coach. While he always got along with Georgia's father when he knew him in high school, Coach Worthington now has it out for Leo.

He is struggling with his ever present attraction and feelings for Georgia and struggling to prove himself worthy of being in the NHL.

Georgia is struggling to prove herself also. She wants to be successful at work - despite working with her father. And she isn't sure that getting back together with Leo is the best choice for her.

I loved watching these two characters find their way back to each other. I loved the chemistry. Loved the secondary characters.

I can't wait for the next book in the series!!!

Bottom line: read this book!!! Start with the Ivy Years series!!

Georgia is determined to keep their relationship strictly professional, but when a press conference microphone catches Leo declaring his feelings for her, things get really personal, really fast.

Another great reunion romance I'm a sucker for. Leo and Georgia are great for one another and the reader because you get plenty of page time to ease into their rekindling romance.

Its great because Leo takes the time Georgia needs to open her heart to him and let him in which is nice because its not all just wink and he's in your pants kind of thing a lot of romances are doing these days.

Its sweet, and its endearing and its the kind of thing a lot of chicks swoon over. Slow wins takes them all. I really enjoyed it.

Georgia Worthington was living her professional dream. At twenty-four she was a successful publicist for an NHL team the Brooklyn Bruisers. She was in a good place. Life couldn’t possibly get any better, or so she thought…

In a male dominant world, Georgia needed to maintain this facade of being calm, cool and collected. All that is shattered however once she finds herself face to face, welcoming her ex into the team. Leo Trevi WAS her everything and seeing him again after six long years apart completely unsettles her. What made things interesting was Leo was just as affected as she was.

This is what had me so enraptured … I needed to know what happened to them. Why after all these years had they could never move on from each other? And if given another chance they could recreate something just as amazing considering their current situation? I’m not going to spoil it for you but what I can tell you is that Sarina Bowen delivers yet another fantastic romance.

If you asked me what I loved most about “Rookie Move”, I would say it is the characters. It never fails that when I’m reading by Sarina Bowen I am immediately able to connect. It isn’t just the main characters either but also the supporting characters as well.

Sarina certainly set the stage for yet another amazing series. I absolutely can not wait to read O’Doul’s story. I would definitely recommend this book for those who especially enjoy a well-written contemporary, sports, second chance romance.

As the Brooklyn Bruisers' interim publicist, Georgia is having the craziest day ever. If it wasn't bad enough that her FATHER was just hired as the team's new Coach, her ex - the love of her life - was also just signed to the team. And to make matters worse, he had a "Hot Mic" moment that managed to drudge up their history & make it news. So what if he was "the one that got away" and she regretted their break-up. Who cares if she never stopped loving him. It doesn't matter if he was the last person she was with. She's determined to keep it professional and make it work. What could go wrong...?

Leo never got over losing Georgia six years ago, and now that he has the chance to win her back, he's not going to give up. After she dumped him on graduation day, he tried to move on - to no avail. She's the love of his life & he wants her back, even if his new coach - Gigi's father - is determined to get rid of him. He's not walking away again even if it costs him his contract with the Brooklyn Bruisers.

I had high hopes when I found out that Leo Trevi (The Ivy Years) was going to get his own spin-off story, and Sarina Bowen DID NOT disappoint! (For those of you who haven't read the Ivy Years series, it's not required to do so - but you can get a bit of Leo's years spent at Harkness College.) This is the perfect beginning to what I think will be another AMAZING series!

4.5 out of 5 stars

Awesome introduction to the series. Rookie Move was a great read! Entertaining and really sweet.

I really enjoyed Georgia and Leo. I loved the building chemistry between these two have as they reconnect. There was so much longing, sexual tension and anticipation and then kapow! That sexual tension turns explosive. Leo was just so incredibly sweet and loving. He was totally swoon worthy. He sees Georgia and immediately wants her again. Georgia put up a good fight but she couldn't fight her inevitable feelings. I really liked them coming together and their history.

I loved the premise of the story and how it was laid out. I thought there was a really great pace and fantastic build. There was nice development throughout as we learn about their past and watch the characters come together. There are some ups and downs along the way and I was turning the page wanting to know all the details. I felt this was a lighter read, not super in depth, with bits of emotion throughout. There were a lot of entertaining moments as well and I thought there was a really good balance between the two.

I am excited to see where this series will go, a lot of great characters were introduced. I think there was some nice foreshadowing laid out for her best friend and I can't wait to see what will happen. Hard Hitter is up next with O’Doul’s story, can’t wait!

Totally enjoyable read, loved it! I fantastic second chance romance. I’m officially a fan of hockey players! ;-)

If you love hockey romances, strong heroines, solid, steady, dirty talking heroes, and flirty, funny banter, you're going to love this book. If you also enjoy books that hit you on an emotional level you never even saw coming? You're going to looooove this book.

You guys?
I looooooved this book.

It should come as no surprise. Sarina Bowen has become a bit of a sure thing for me lately. I love her smart, engaging writing style. I love her strong, relatable characters. And I love her talent for taking an emotional subject and turning it on its ear—just a bit—so that you look at things in a way that you'd never really thought to before.

I laughed. I cried. I cried a little bit more. And then my heart filled to satisfaction because this book just knocked my socks off. Leo Trevi just straight-up stole my heart. I loved how strong and steady he was—cocky without being arrogant, safe without being boring. He's sexy as all hell, a dirty talker with an intense streak a mile wide. He's nearly perfect, and completely perfect for Georgia—who is strong, smart, and remarkably well-centered in her own right. Their story is heartbreaking and redemptive and, for me, completely unputdownable.

I needed this book. I'd been craving something that appealed to me on every level and Ms. Bowen delivered. I am already all-in on this series, I cannot wait to read what's in store!

I completely DEVOUR every single thing Sarina Bowen releases, and ROOKIE MOVE reminded me why. Whether she’s writing on her own or co-writing a romance, she NAILS it EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. There are very few authors that can immediately put a HUGE smile on my face with their work, and Ms. Bowen is one of those authors.

This second chance, sports romance packed one hell of an emotional punch! The first novel in a brand new series, ROOKIE MOVE gave me butterflies in my stomach and multiple shades of pink to my cheeks. I can say without a doubt, the Brooklyn Bruisers series is going to be a favorite of mine. It brings together my favorite sport (hockey) and my favorite trope (second chance romance), and mix in the sexy factor that Sarina Bowen does best, and you got yourself one HELL of a love story!

ROOKIE MOVE brings the sweet…

“Come back to me, Georgia.”

ROOKIE MOVE brings the heat…

“So ****ing good,” … “Now give me that mouth.”

Leo and Georgia were AMAZING characters. Georgia is no wilting flower and Leo is determined as hell. Together, these two were combustible. Mixing sweet, sexy, and so much heart, ROOKIE MOVE left me with a bursting heart and a beautiful sense of satisfaction. Sarina Bowen slays again with this incredible love story.

This is only my second book by Sarina Bowen. (Bittersweet is my first). I loved this book so much I need to read her others. From what I understand this is a new series but also features some characters from her Ivy Years series too.

Leo is the rookie. He is the sweetest and most romantic guy. I fell pretty hard for him and I really liked Georgina/Gigi. They went to high school together and were deeply in love but senior year Gigi went away during winter vacation to a tennis camp and she was never the same again. She was attacked badly and while Leo tried to be with her, nothing was the same. At the end of the year Gigi dumps him as they go off to different colleges.

Now it is 6 years later and Gigi is a senior publicist for the NY Bruisers, a hockey team and Leo has just been signed by the owner. The new coach who is Gigi's dad, is hired as a coach and he HATES Leo and is angry the owner signed him.

Leo on the other hand is beyond happy to see Gigi. He loves her and always loved her. But for Gigi to be with a player she feels is unprofessional and then there is the fact that her dad hates Leo and has 30 days he can trade him.

This book was seriously fantastic. It easily stands alone and has some really terrific characters. My favorite is Becca, the BFF and Nate, the owner. The only thing I hated about it was that it ended I wanted more.

Review by Jennifer

The more I read hockey stories, the more I think I really need to go to a damn hockey game. I think this could really be my sport…as a spectator of course. I am also a sucker for second chance romances so anytime I can devour one I do so when this one popped up on Netgalley I was all over it!

Leo was most definitely a swoon worthy character. He was determined, he was sweet and he was totally and completely in love with Georgia. Georgia was spunky, strong and funny as hell and very much in love with Leo.

The friendship these two had was deep and started out years ago when they were young. They were both one another’s first loves and had a romantic relationship. However when that ended abruptly with no explanation they both decided to move on with their lives and never look back. That is until fate brings them together.

Watching Leo & Georgia fall in love again (even though they never really fell out of love with one another) was enduring. They were very adult about it and there wasn’t a whole lot of drama standing in their way just some private personal stuff that they needed to work through. They were very respectful to one another and I enjoyed that very much. This was a very sweet second chance romance story and I enjoyed reading it.

This is the first book in the Brooklyn Bruisers series. This book can be read as a standalone novel. For reader enjoyment and further understanding, read in companion with The Ivy Years series.

Georgia & Leo have a history. When he comes to be on her team, with her father suddenly in the picture also, tensions are high. Is it wrong of her to still want the man?

Leo is not sure how he can stand the thought that Georgia may reject him yet again. Just getting to know a new team is hard enough. Now they just need a little heat and a little compromise.

Seriously great start to a new series with beloved characters! Already enjoying the series with the players seeming to be charming and hot. What a joy to read! I cannot wait to see what the author comes up with next.

Wow. Wow. Wow.
WOW!!!

I'm completely smitten and irrevocably in love with Rookie Move! *siiiiiigh* WOW! Cloud nine... seventh heaven-- couldn't come close enough or even begin to explain the euphoric state I'm currently reeling in since finished this one! Sarina Bowen has delivered an epic second chance romance with a 110% hockey plot-line. It's a sports romance junkie's dream come true!

Be prepared to sizzle and swoon, cry and maybe even pout in frustration. Rookie Move has a little bit of everything that I've come to love in a book. The story-line, plot twists, protagonists as well as the secondary characters all add substance and their unique touch and flair to the story. Bowen's writing will certainly keep you on your toes and thoroughly enthralled--page after page, chapter after chapter. It's truly addictive and a stellar start to what is sure to be one crazy amazing series!

Lust. Denial. Sexual tension & enough emotional baggage with the potential to ruin it all.
All. The. Feels.

Yes, Sarina Bowen made -ME- cry!!!

Now the wait for O'Doul's book *pout*

Sarina Bowen brings some of her old Ivy Year series players into the NHL with Rookie Move, the first book in the Brooklyn Bruisers series. Although this book serves great as a standalone, I would highly recommend reading the Ivy Year because it is a great set of books, and because it gives you context about the hero and the heroine. Leo Trevi was always one of the good guys, and as a new rookie he has plenty to prove. The only thing that can stand in his way is the girl who broke his heart in high school, Georgia Worthington.

Georgia has gone through things that would make a lesser woman crumble, and she did what she thought was best at the time. This wasn’t a story where there was really a bad guy, just two young people who were flawed and had to break apart before they could come back together. I enjoy a great second chance romance, and Ms. Bowen weaves an incredible tale about loss, forgiveness, and how time can heal even the greatest wounds. Loved getting to meet the new players, and I’m excited for the rest of this series!

Sarina Bowen...if you are reading this review, you have me uncontrollably gushing over your new sports romance, Rookie Move. Sarina is somewhat a new author for me since it has only been earlier this year that I have started reading and devouring her books. I love the way Bowen can magically transport readers to feel the depth and connection of her characters and in her latest book, she finds a way to skate her way into my heart and you can thank Leo Trevi for that.

It’s no secret that I’m a fanatic of second chance romance. I am sucker for this particular trope and when you combine Sarina Bowen’s stunning prose and vibrant characters, you get an unforgettable romance that will set hearts fluttering. This book was a symphony of heart, tender moments, passion, steam, humor, playfulness, and raw emotions. So if you are looking for a romance book that was well-written and full of heart then I would highly recommend you to read this book.

Romantic, captivating, and wonderfully provocative!

This is a sizzling, easy read that mixes, a handsome, hard-bodied, hockey player, and a beautiful, intelligent publicist, with a heartwarming, second-chance storyline.

The writing is spot on. The characters are real, charming, and unforgettable. And the plot is intoxicating with its racy intimations, scorching tension, feisty chemistry, witty banter, emotional drama, and thrilling hockey!

Once again, Sarina Bowen has written a sweet, funny, hard-to-put-down story that will have you rooting for the underdog and wishing for a few more pages.

This author knows how to write romance, and she’s never disappointed me. A few chapters into Rookie Move and I knew she had me once again.

Leo Trevi (DJ’s brother, from the Ivy Years series) and Georgia Worthington had been one of those couple that since high school were believed to be destined for each other. But after something traumatic happened to Georgia, they crumbled. A relationship that seemed so effortless became hard, until Georgia decided to leave, without a true explanation for Leo. Since then, they’ve moved on but they’ve never quite forgotten. Now facing each other again it’s plain for everyone to see that there’s still crazy chemistry between the two of them.

I fell head over heels in love with Leo. He’s the kind of guy who loves unconditionally. He truly wants Georgia’s happiness above anything else. So, even if he’s determined to win her back, he’s also happy to just make her smile, to respect her, to give her space and time, to let her take her own decision. But understanding her so well, Leo also knows when to push so that Georgia can move forward.

Georgia is an amazing female lead. She’s faced horrible things, but she came out stronger than ever. She’s still fighting, but she won’t let anyone or anything get the best of her. I truly felt for her, and I cheered her on throughout the whole book. The moments that showed her insecurities or her need for Leo made her all the more lovable and reletable.

This story is so sweet, and heartfelt and that’s what in my opinion makes Sarina Bowen stand out among other romance authors. Her writing style also impressed me, since she used the third person pov effortlessly. At first I thought it would feel weird, but it was beautifully done. Now I’m just dying to read O’Doul’s book!

I really enjoyed "Rookie Move" by Sarina Bowen. I was sad to finish the Ivy years series, so when I read that there was a "spin off" series, I was very excited to continue with one of the characters from the series. Rookie Move was another great story line with relate able real life characters and the writing was so well done, per the usual Sarina Bowen novel. If you haven't had a chance to pick up her books, I would highly recommend anything she has written. You can certainly read this novel without having read the Ivy Years series, but why not read that too... you won't be disappointed.
Happy Reading...enjoy!
