While I am not of his particular religious persuasion I found the book right on and fascinating. Christianity needs to wake up and be for the masses and not the few and this book details what is going on. I found his work thoughtful, with real intent and it woke me up to some of the realities I have been feeling. It is my first Eldridge book but wont be my last. It is provocative and timely and a must read if you care whats happening to our world.

Being an extremely concervative Christian I hesitated when the book was recommended to me. So much junk in contemporary "Christianity" that I am almost always disappointed in what I see and hear from today's giddy nonsense. However, I am thankful the Lord lead me to this book. Although I had to step outside the box of some rather dry theology I have been steeped in for 35 years of my Christian life I have to say that I have been helped tremendously, and recommend this read to anyone willing to seriously examine their lives and ministries outside of the traditional and customary interpretations many of us ultra concervatives have so tenaciously held to. Good read. Very helpful. Actually life changing.

I was introduced to the writings of John Eldredge in 1999. Wild at Heart became extremely popular with men across the world. I read it, liked it but... didn't really know what to do with it. What was it REALLY about. Some of the church leaders in my area dismissed it as 'bad theology' or 'just adventure for adventure's sake'. Really? That's not what I got. If the gospel that Jesus preached can be likened to a beautiful diamond, Wild at Heart turned that diamond in a new light and allowed me to see facets I had not noticed before. Then I read Waking the Dead and found that someone was putting words to what I had often felt but could not articulate. Waking the Dead took me for a 'deeper dive' that Wild at Heart initially aroused. It was as though the curtain had been pulled back on the posture of God's heart toward me and I found it breathtaking. Wild at Heart was a breakthrough book for me but Waking the Dead launched me to a place in my relationship with God for which I am very grateful. It is one of my top 5 books of all time.

Stirred from the depths of my soul , finally the deadness of the slog is called out. No longer on the defense, surprised by my enemies next strike. No longer hoping the best is that I am not a bloody mess. The eyes of my heart will give me the passion and fire to go on the offense and love extravagantly.

Changed my fiance's life.
His father had passed at a young age and instead of grieving the loss, he stuffed the pain.
The Holy Spirit used this book to bring major healing and restoration to his heart.
He'll quote saying, "It broke down the walls around my heart that I spent years building."

Outstanding book...it removes the cataracts of legalism that has clouded the real purpose of Christianity. It will give you a whole new perspective leading to a closer, fuller walk with God. I have been reading this book along with my wife and two of her friends...all of us have been deeply moved by the truths in this book. This book is a "must have" for anyone who professes to be a Christian, or anyone one who wants to know more about our purpose here on earth and where God is when everything seems to be falling apart around us.

Purchased this book for a family member on advice from my daughter who read the book. She said it is an easy read and was one she would recommend for anyone. After thumbing through the book myself and reading little bits-- I decided I would like to read it too.

My sister recommended this book to me after her daughter described it as "life-changing". After reading it, I would definitely agree. In providing practical encouragement to Christians, John Eldredge has done an excellent job.
