Very interesting story of the twins. Really gave Good historical background of the times when they lived. They must gave kept meticulous diaries to be able to recite all the people that they associated with. Amazing

how selfish young Gloria was I would never have purchased any of her products. The story was revealing and brought back memories of some of the fabulous decadent ways of old. I could not put this book down. Thanks you for sharing.

I thought it was an interesting read. These women were very self centered. Tbey name drop like crazy. But it was a run and fast read. I love reading old autobiographies. It gives you a look in another time.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book, which combined history and glamor. I had no idea that the modern day Gloria was the daughter of a twin. Would love to hear “Little Gloria’s “ account of this story.

I could barely finish this book and stopped mid-read the book more than once . The superfluous carrying on about all the places they travelled and all of the royalty that they met in all of the countries they visited, the types of crowds in which they rubbed elbows - such a shallow life these two women lived finding so little meaning other than to report on how much money other people made, what great gowns other women and themselves wore to all the balls they attended, business tycoons , Princes, and Dukes they knew and/or married . A great book for someone to read who thinks that money can buy happiness. Who cares how much they spent and on what? How sad to write a book where they speak of opulent riches and complete self-indulgence as though they still haven't learned that no one is impressed when they ended up broke!

Two snotty, spoiled children raised by a crazy, self-important boor....I forced mysedlf to read the first two chapters of this snore-fest. I found it very difficult to feel sorry for their situation when they had mored opportunities than the poorest people living in the countries supporting them.

This was a thoughtful, entertaining and well written book about the lives of two women who lived durng one of the most glamerous periods in world history. They experienced WWI and WWII and everything in between. They wore hats and gloves, had poise, manners and elegance, and enjoyed a rarified world that the rest of us get to visit while reading their book. I for one loved every page.

Gloria's parts are interesting. Thelma comes across as less likable, and therefore a little annoying more to read. The paragraphs of names are tedious and I skimmed them. But it's well-written, and the subject matter of a first-hand account of those times is a page-turner. They are frank and to the point, and also curiously seem kind of uninvolved in what is going on around them in the larger world, in a way that gives a very practical view of events like WWI that I appreciated -- they are going back and forth across the Atlantic while being sideswiped by a torpedo, but no drama. It's the antithesis of many modern books I see where 200 plus pages can be "a true story" of the minutia of one person's trip to Hawaii while conversing with dead people, an event that would be given two lines in this book.

The story of Mrs. Vanderbilt giving Gloria the pearls during lunch is pretty famous and recounted here--I'm still trying to figure out how she could possibly have cut a strand of pearls without pearls going everywhere. This will be the question I ask should I ever have occasion to meet anyone like this :)

I liked the way they each wrote different sections of the book. I was fascinated with the true story about the evil granny and her destruction of the family. I also finally found the answer to the story of young Gloria, which was such a scandal at the time. She has had a productive life with some admirable achievements.
