Great, well-written book. Allows for some humor along with real world examples which highlight some important aspects relavent to the law enforcement career. It discusses some of the tough issues that tend to often be ignored within the law enforcement culture, and which can lead to health risks as well as relationship issues. Easy to read and necessary to read if you are in law enforcement (any branch really. . .street cop to correctional officer) or if you have a friend or family member in law enforcement.

This helped greatly as to what is going inside the mind of many officers who struggle balancing their work and home life. It doesn't cover a lot of what to do but gives you an insight as to what they are mentally going thru. Each case is different and each department is different so no one solution will work. A combination of support, understanding and persistence is key.

He's not a professional writer, but makes many excellent observations, and suggests useful stratagies. This book should be read and taken to heart by all uniformed officers, middle managers and administrators, as well as by their families.

So greatful for this book. My husband got hired on just a few months ago and his agency actually gave him copy. I hated reading it at first asking myself why we ever decided to get into police work. But the advice at the end is priceless and so nice to know right upfront. It seemed like it dragged on but so worth the time. I will refer back to this book throught his career Im sure.

This book should be mandatory reading in every police academy and in every Criminal Justice program in the nation. Aside from providing great information and ideas that can help reduce family problems, it provides a strategy for officers to maintain physical and mental health.

Seriously, a must-read for anyone with a close friend, spouse, or family member that works in law enforcement. It really breaks down the emotional aspect of what working in law enforcement does to a person.

Super and recommend for law enforcement also. This book should be given at orientation for new recruits! It's a book that my spouse and I will read over and over, especially when we're going through a rough patch.

Signed,

The wife of a law enforcement officer

I am an E911 dispatcher for police and fire, this book helped my son understand some of the problems we have been having at home. It was as if the book was written about us. We both have a better understanding and have been able to sit down and make a plan on how to address the problems.

Over time, you eventually come to grips with all the steps Kevin Gilmartin outlines for you. Makes a whole lot more sense to have him accelerate the process for you. A quick read that is difficult to put down. On a scale of 1 to 10, a 10.
