Considering where the last story left off, and the title of this one, I assumed that it would be about forging alliances to meet the threat of the eaters. You know, the supposedly epic-level threat that needed all allies on board?
Nope.
There is literally no alliance building in this book. Nor are the eaters really even addressed, except in the background.
One of the biggest flaws in this whole series is the overwhelming number of hanging quests. Seriously, can we start wrapping some quests up? Maybe forge that alliance with the elves and dwarves? Find out more about Modara? Clear the first level of the catacombs? Go visit that tower we discovered in the first book? Maybe deal with that Count that stole our people and whom we made an enemy of and who attacked us in this book?
Or, could we maybe get the main character out of his baby steps? Every spell he has is weak leveled, despite his mastery of powers. It would be so easy to give him accelerated leveling in those areas, just to get him out of the lowest levels!
I think the author needs to focus a bit more. Let's clear out some hanging quests, so we can get new, bigger ones. Let's deal with some local enemies so we can move to more powerful ones.

Good, funny, lightweight summer entertainment for an old former computergame rpg:er like myself. Written with warmth and care. Realy good audiobook narration that in itself raises the score of this book.

This release makes the third in the series and seals the deal: book four will be a day-one buy. This was a genuinely entertaining read. Unlike so many books in the genre, the main character has not become a Mary Sue. He's growing, as are his allies, but the map just got wider and deeper, the forces arrayed against him more diverse and interesting. The further the main character dips his toes into the pool that is the Land, the more his digits are getting nibbled on by piranha. Even better, he's stepping up. Also, the way Aleron Kong has him interacting with his people and the land, neighboring kingdoms, different factions, it's all vastly more interesting than the usual god-emperor in litrpg: the king on his throne, sword in hand, draped in his harem. The characters in this are, if anything, more nuanced and complex, many of them more mature than the main character, sometimes patiently so. The world isn't patiently waiting for him as he grows up or goes on his side quests. If this were a game, it would be real-time, with the character making decisions while third parties make their moves .. The main character is operating in a fog of war, forces arraying about him, his people making decisions and responding to his actions in ways which aren't immediately obvious or entirely in his control. Aleron Kong keeps adding new lore to his world that makes it that much better.

The amount of typos and grammatical errors is daunting. They are in such abundance that it distracts from the story and slows down the read. The use of less filler for 'level up' prompts is a nice change however. Overall, it's still a fun read and I'll probably continue the journey. I hope the next book has A LOT more story involving the light and dark kingdoms of the demons and higher beings or whatever that are only ever in the beginning. I feel like I'm playing Skyrim for the fourth time, doing all the same quests over again. Richter is a fun character and all but I'm tired of him; I need some side action! One plot line is exhausting....

OUTSTANDING BOOK !!! :) I bought this book and in approximately 24hrs despite work and other things that got in the way I was done and waiting eagerly for book 4 - that has been the case with each book of this series - the main character has amazing luck , I suspect if he fell into a pile of manure he would dig around in it and find bars of gold or silver , or something even more valuable , and he holds the record for the most horrifying death I have ever seen in any book - , at least if you are a guy , he did re-spawn BUT WHAT A WAY TO GO :( -- If you like RPGS and books this is a great series to read .
