I liked Atkins' portrayal of Spenser; quite faithful. Less happy about his portrayal of Hawk; too coarse. The plot was quite Parker-like--as were the often tiring accounts of meals. There never was all that much to Susan, and Atkins does a fine job portraying her. Much, much better than the "other" work emulating Parker. I look forward to Atkins' next Spenser book.

Ace Atkins is Robert Parker! Have read every Parker book and with Atkins you would think Parker has returned! He has been added to our list of favorites - Along with Connelly, CJBox, Adrian McKinty, just to name a few.

I was very pleasantly surprised at Ace Atkins rendition of Spenser !! It has all the great characters and action - with an overtone of freshness and revitalization that was somewhat missing in Parker's latest books, If you like Spenser - you will like this. I await the next one with great anticipation !!!
The Lullaby Girl (Angie Pallorino Book 2) :: Portnoy's Complaint :: The Plot to Assassinate General George S. Patton (World War II Collection) :: I Love You, Daddy :: An Alan Lewrie Naval Adventure (Alan Lewrie Naval Adventures)

I had low expectations for this. The Jesse Stone that this author did totally missed the mark.

This Spenser totally worked. I loved the scenes where a FBI agent picks up Spenser after finding drugs in Spenser's car. That alone was worth the price of the book. Rita Fiore is always good.

If you are a Spenser fan, this a good one.

I thought the book was slower moving that normal Parker works. There were places that I couldn't tell if it was Parker writing or not, but there were others where it clearly was not. I felt the books finish was a bit slow too, but that is a personal choice more than criticism.

Having said that, when is the next one coming.

Spenser better then ever. I believe Mr Atkins did justice to Robert B. Parker's characters plenty of action and a well thought out plot. Flowed like a old Spenser novel all the wit and charm of a classic Spenser novel.

My favorite parts of the Spenser series are the relationships Spenser has with Susan and Hawk. I didn't recognize either character in this book. Both seem one dimensional and not themselves. Sigh....

I accidentally ran across 'Lullaby' by some guy named Ace Atkins. I thought...'who is Ace Atkins and what is he doing with Spenser?" I've read every Spenser book there is and I'm a huge fan. I didn't expect this Atkins guy to come up to Robert Parker standards at all. I'm very pleased to say I was wrong. Mr. Atkins aced it!!!

I enjoyed this book.

The voice is different, but I don't know of anyone else who could come as close to capturing Parker's feel. Atkins hits it about 90% and some of the places where he's different are interesting.

I will buy Atkins next Spenser novel

Ace Atkins does a very good job upholding Spenser's world. As a fan who has read every Spenser novel three times that was a big concern for me. My only quibble was with giving Hawk a bit too much emotion but that's pretty minor. Susan Silverman is toned down a bit, which I appreciate.

If you love the Spenser novels as I do I'd be shocked if you didn't enjoy this book.

Having read all of the Spenser books, several times, I am pleasantly surprised at how effective Mr. Atkins was at walking in Mr. Parker's shoes. I thought the repartee between the characters was spot on and I found myself caught up in the story in a way I haven't been with the last few books written by Mr. Parker. I prefer the stories that include Hawk as one of the main characters. I had really low expectations when starting this book, mostly because I have never read anything by Mr. Atkins. I give his effort 5 stars and a big thumbs up. I will definitely be looking for other books by Mr. Atkins to see how he has done on stories with his own characters. I am glad the Spenser novels live on in the capable hands of Ace Atkins.

I enjoyed his books. They are always a great read for me. I will definitely buy more of these books. The gentleman who is now writing the Spenser books has captured the essence of the characters . I hope he does more.

Author Ace Atkins does a fabulous job of flushing out the characters that Spencer fans have come to know and love. I didn't want to continue reading the Spencer series once Robert B. Parker died...but on a lark I gave Lullaby a try. It was awesome! Great plot. Written in a style very similar to that of Robert B. Parker...maybe even better than some of that author's later works!

After bad reviews on the first post Parker Jesse Stone novel, I was worried. Not anymore!! This was GREAT SPENSER. This guy (Ace Atkins) did his homework and made a fabulous Spenser continuation. I'm looking forward to the next one already. Definitely a 5 star rating!!!

I loved the Spenser novels. Yet the last several were not up to the standard established earlier in Parker's career. Ace Adkins brings some new energy and maintains the Parker style and storytelling. I'm looking forward to the next Spenser story again.

Ace Atkins Spenser novel calls to mind the stellar early Spenser novels, before they dteriorated a bit into formula dialogue withour the depth of narrative and storyline. Can't wait for the next one. It's like having a young Robert B. Parker back!!!!!

Another great Spencer novel. Something unique about it: the reader gets some interesting insight into Hawk, and his history. As usual: the diction is superb, and conversation is easy and natural. Funny product placement for Dunkin Donuts too :)

For those fans of that oddly "American Existentialist" Spenser character who have been mourning the passing of Robert B. Parker, our deliverance is at hand. In two installments now, Mr. Atkins has kept the character alive and brooding.

I really miss Robert Parker. He became my Judy Bolton/Nancy Drew of my childhood for my adult years. His books were enjoyable. Nothing literary, just plain good reading. Ace Atkins does a pretty good job imitating Robert Parker. I just felt Robert put more humanity into the characters than Ace did. But I would buy more of his books.

A very good visit with Robert Parker's characters that many have grown to love so very much over the years. Mr Atkins retains just the right tempo in his story telling. I can only hope in the future that will see others as well.

I just finished Lullaby and think the author did a fine job. Spencer was his old self and the story was great fun as always. I will read all these new books and have nothing but praise for Ace carrying on the series WONDERFUL.

I was very concerned about the fate of Spenser after RBP passed away but he is in good hands with Ace Atkins. You won't know the difference and that is a very good thing. Wish the same could be said for Jessie Stone. Rock on Ace!

What a relief! After the death of author Robert B Parker, the Spenser character lives on in the very capable hands of Ace Atkins. It was almost uncanny how close he has captured the writing style, the characters, the dialogue to the original novels. It's comforting to know now that Spenser has not been lost for ever. Anyone who enjoyed the Spenser novels written by Robert B Parker they will love this one just as much.

Though Mr. Parker is gone Spenser lives on. Reads like Robert Parker. Nice to see the torch passed on. I was sorry when Mr. Parker passed and thought the character I've enjoyed was over. Ace captured the tone, speech patterns and all the things we love about Spenser. I will gladly continue reading. I think Mr. Parker would be proud.

I struggled just a little at first with this book, probably just because I knew it was written by someone new. But I soon fell back into my usual level of comfort with these "old friends" - Spenser, Hawk, Susan, and the gang - and I enjoyed the story. I think Spenser fans will mostly be very pleased. And of course it is also comforting that unlike the rest of us, these people never really age.

Ace Atkins accomplishes the impossible, i.e. keeping the Spenser legacy alive. Spenser is indeed alive and well and continuing to enjoy life "his" Boston with Hawk and Susan. Bravo, Mr. Atkins. A story well told.
