Spartan Gold (A Sam and Remi Fargo Adventure)

Overall the book is a good historical/mystery/suspense novel. It keeps you hanging on each chapter wondering how the main charecters are going to overcome whatever obstacle that is thrown at them. Sadly, after setting up a steady pace it appears that the authors are being rushed by publication deadlines or decided that the book was getting too lengthy and so they compacted the ending into the last 20 pages or so of the book. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a historical/mystery/suspense novel.

It was a fun read! Was it deep, thought-provoking literature? No! But it ain't supposed to be! It is fast-paced excitement with a moving plot and full of enough detail to show how much research the author put into it.

I totally enjoy the entire series of Clive Cussler books, his character development and his formula. I have read most of his works and find them a pleasant pastime and fun to read. However, this particular book just does not meet the standards I have come to expect. I might even make an argument that Clive Cussler has not even read the book much less collaborated in the writing. The Fargo characters are consistent and developed, however the style of writing, the story development and the execution of the plot are very weak. Pages and pages of overly detailed fights and flights but most are out of context or immaterial to the actual plot. Multiple silly technical errors also hint that Clive was not involved or did not carefully review the manuscript. Pick another Fargo, the others book are fun to read.

I love the new characters in this series. They sort of remind me of The Harts in Hart to Hart. If you want a fun book that is easy and escapist, this is it. I'll be looking for the next installment for sure.

Like most of the other reviewers, this writing combo wil not be on my list of must authors . Cussler and duBrul are. However, it was mildly entertaing, especially after suffering through The Lost Symbol.

Clive's latest follows in the tradition of his other books.
His historic references and joining them to the modern world are fascinating.
His introduction of these new characters moves with his style.
If you loved his other books,you will love this one too.

I loved this book, because it really struck my sense of adventure, suspense, and mystery. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves adventure, but can't escape their repetitious daily life, and anyone who likes history.

I've read other reviews stating that this book doesn't compare to other Clive Cussler books but this is the first of his novels I've read and I thoroughly Enjoyed it. The mix of History and fiction is fantastic. Would highly recommend. I look forward to reading the rest of the Fargo Adventure series.

I have every book Clive Cussler has written. I like the Dirk Pitt & Kurt Austin series and the Oregon Files. This new Fargo Adventure is a bust & not worthy of the Cussler name.
I realize this is fiction but the story line & escape capabilities of the Fargos is too far fetched even for fiction. You got me on this one but I will not buy another Fargo Adventure. Someone needs kryptonite to defeat this married couple.

Spartan Gold is a fast paced adventure that captures your attention and has a very good story line. My reason for only four stars is for the way the Fargo's acted as jury, judge and executioner for the main bad guy. Did they really need to throw him off of the water fall?
