I loved how this book made you feel the characters emotions. Not only did it give you a romantic book but it gave you a mystery also. These things occur in reality and I loved how it showed courage, compassion, and love throughout the entire story!!! Great book and amazing story!!

I have been a fan and follower of Susan Griscom’s work since her Debut Novel Whisper Cape. I have read and devoured so many of her beautifully written work but this one here was not the type of book to be devoured it is a savoring type. One you want to sip like fine wine.
Lena was a strong and beautifully written character. Was she perfect no far from it but that was the beauty part because let’s face no one is perfect. Her major flaw was marrying the guy of her dreams or at least that is who she thought she was marrying turns out he was what nightmares are made of at least in the emotionally since. Troy was abusive both physically and mentally, and Lena had finally had enough.

Jackson is a strong and caring character and has a need to try and help others. His strong and caring personality shows Lena that out all are the same. She soon discovers that Jackson is the one that can truly make her happy.

This emotionally packed book is full of hope and eventually love after the dark times are passed.

This was an incredible story, and one that will definitely stay with me. It's a story about one woman's courage to take back control of her life, and how in the process she finds love again as well as a newfound acceptance for herself and her past that she'd never had before. What a beautiful story!

This beautifully written story of a woman's struggles as a battered wife and her attempted escape from her own hell, as well as her fight against her inner demons, as she tries to put her life back together. After fleeing from her abusive husband, and making her way to a small town in California, Lena, armed with new ID and a will to live even with her battered and broken body, walks into a small pub hoping to find a quiet place to rest a bit before continuing along her way. When Jackson sees the woman enter his bar, his first reaction was to tell her they were closed and she'd have to leave, until he got a closer look at her, that is. Always the one to rescue the injured animals, Jackson knew he couldn't let her go. He had to help her heal. The only question would be if he could do so without getting hurt in the process.
A wonderful story of survival and new beginnings, you won't want to miss this one. It has opened the door for what promises to be an outstanding series. Loved it!

I received this book free from the author in exchange for an honest review.
This is the second book by the amazing Susan Griscom that I have had the privilege of reading. And again she surpassed my expectations and blew this out of the park. Despite this book having darker subject matter, it was also lighthearted and a romantic read. While reading this novel I had a roller coaster of emotions. I even teared up a bit. And I liked how it showed the difference between a good relationship and a bad one.
Lena was such a damaged character that i couldn't help but to love her. I wanted her to escape and become independent. I'm glad everything worked out for her. Jackson is a great guy. I'm so glad he helped Lena with her more than one aspect in her life. Rufus was my favourite character because much like Jackson he is a protector. I'm really curious to learn more about Brodie, I can't wait until book two.
This was very well written book that keeps the readers heart pounding. I would recommend it to New Adult lovers.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review from the author.

I was contacted by another blogger "Enticing Journey" to help on reading and reviewing. I had never heard of this author or any of her books so I was definitely excited and willing to check out this series. This book is Lena and Jackson Beaumont's story and is written in both of their POV.

The story starts out getting to know Lena, how she met her husband Troy while she was in a band playing at a bar. They get married within a month and the first few weeks go really great until Lena is caught hugging one of her best friends Weezer which causes another side of Troy, rage.

Lena then realizes that Troy is not all what she thought he was and more like her own father, a father who abused on her mother for years. Within several months, she saves money over time to plan her escape. Little does she know that the time was coming sooner than she thought.

Lena escapes thinking that she killed her husband and finds a town outside of Oregon and finds a bar who is owned by the Beaumont brothers, Jackson and Brodie. Jackson knows that something is up with her but he has such a caring heart and takes her in like the fawn he nursed back to health when he was a little kid and hoping to use this situation to help heal Lena's broken spirit.

Lena and Jackson get to know each other but will they be able to trust one another and be able to tell each other the truth? If Troy is still alive, will he come after her with revenge or will she go to jail for killing a man in self defense?

I really enjoyed this suspenseful romance and cannot wait for Brodie's story in "The Rejected". Hope you enjoy the excerpt at the end of this book as well as I did.

Beautifully Wounded is a story about a woman who was brutally abused by her husband, how she got away, and how she healed.

Lena, aka Lana was very young when she married Troy. What she didn’t know? He liked to drink and get physical, but not in the nice way. One day, after she had been saving to run, it came to a life and death decision to move fast. She left in a hurry, and covered her tracks as well as a person could who was distraught.

The first person she meets during her run is Jackson. He is kind and wants to help as much as possible. He nursed her back to health as she came with wounds (external and internal ones).

There is very little action in this book, a little at the beginning and towards the end. This is a survivor/love story. See if it has a happy ending or does Troy finish what he started…

I received this book from the author for an honest review.

Lena Benton has had enough! She has been abused by her husband Troy who she has been married to for only a year. Lena has to get away from Troy and as far far away as she can go...

After the final straw of being abused Lena escapes with nothing but the jacket on her back and the shoes in her car. Luckily she was able to put some money aside because she knew that she was going to leave just not under the circumstances of what had happened to her.

Enter Jackson Beaumont, Jackson is the angel of all angels. After Lena walks into Jackson bar to get something drink Jackson immediately see's that something has happened to here and with his compassionate sould jumps to her rescue. Jackson had been know to help out animals that have been hurt in the past nee the title "The Fawn".

With Jackson's help Lena grows stronger both physically and mentally. I have to say that I just fell in love with Jackson's gentle and considerate ways that he had for Lena. As time goes on Jackson knows that he is in love with Lena but the question is does Lena feel the same way about Jackson after having had to deal with the abuse from her husband. It is Jackson's patience and understanding that will make Lena decide if she must run or stay and start a new life.

And of course there is Jackson's brother Brodie who I is worried that his big brother could be getting involved in more than he can handle. Brodie is the opposite of Jackson although as time goes on he does come to accept Lena. The good news is that Brodie will be having his say next and I cannot wait for his story.

Enjoyable book not alot of in depth sex scenes I must warn you but it wasn't needed in the storyline which I really liked. This is a very heart warming, good story.

Oh my gosh! Jackson is probably the most irresistible man there is! He is completely swoon worthy and there’s no surprise that Lena thinks so too.
Lena is running from her husband. He is violent and controlling and the last straws happens when he attacks her and in self-defence, she stabs him. She thinks she has killed him and she runs as far as possible. That when she meets Jackson.
Jackson sees this poor battered girl walk into his bar and vows to help her out however he can. He sets up in his cottage that he rents out. He knows she is running from something but doesn’t know the full story. He’s opening that he can gain her trust.
It is an amazing read and I really enjoyed it.

Synopsis

Lena Harington a.k.a. Lana Martin is on the run for her life. After experiencing
hurt, both physically and mentally by her husband Troy she has finally figured
out a way to leave him. She never wanted to be like her mother, a broken spirit
and body at the hands of a man, but that is exactly what she has become. Now on
the run after a final horrendous night with Troy, Lena finds herself on a journey
to hide and not be discovered hundreds of miles away from her home. With no
clothes on underneath a rain coat, no phone, and little money she finds herself
battered and bruised walking into a bar at 9 in the morning hoping for a cup of
coffee before she moves on, only to discover not everything is what it appears
to be. Will her scars ever heal in the wake of danger or will she run again.

Jackson Beaumont only wants to play music and sit on the sidelines as his
brother runs his bar. Happy and content in his sleepy little town he never
expected the tiny, battered women to walk into his bar on a morning he wasn't
supposed to there but can't not be happy that he is. Known around town to help
the wounded animals, he see's the most wounded one he has ever found and wants
to do nothing but heal her, but will she let him?

A sleepy town, a new found friendship, a bloodhound, and a guitar can these two
find what the other is looking for?

My take

I gave this story 4 stars, why not 5 you ask? Well, it was a great story and one
that should inspire woman who are in abusive situations to find a way out. Not
necessarily the way that Lena did but a way out non the less. It was well
written, story flowed and very few drawn out spots, but and this is my personal
opinion. Jackson lacked the alpha-male protectiveness that I like. While he was
great looking, tatted, and very sweet. He was just to passive for me. He wanted
to help Lena and he did throughout the entire book, but he just sort of rolled
over. I get that abused women have to not be pushed (figuratively, not physically)
but I just felt that he lacked a certain alpha-male quality.

I really enjoyed this book and it was very much worth reading and I am excited
about the second installment (his brother's story)but that is why it got 4 out
of 5 stars. Enjoy the book and find out what happens when Lena puts it all on
the line.

This was a beautiful and very emotional book. I really enjoyed it and couldn't put it down. Lena is such a strong character but she has no idea about her own strength, she puts her self down so much due to the abusive relationship she's suffered through for the last year but (as Jackson pointed out) the fact that she finally defended herself and ran from her abusive ex took a lot of courage and strength. She's plagued by thoughts of her ex finding her and killing her for daring to hit back and run. She slowly heals in the book, physically and emotionally/psychologically thanks to Jackson's care and patience.

I adored Jackson, he was exactly what Lena needed to show her there were good men in the world and that Troy was the exception more so then the normal. Jackson fell hard for Lena and was very considerate of her feelings and what she needed to heal. He really helped her and they were well matched together, as Lena muses at one point it really is a shame she didn't meet Jackson before Troy.

The book deals well with the subject of domestic abuse. I think Lena recovered quicker then most abused women and entered a relationship quicker but she didn't endure it as long as most and though she admits to making excuses for the abuse at times she also never intended to stay with him. From the first time he really hit her and threatened her in their home she'd begun making plans to escape. She understood about the dangers of domestic abuse having witnessed her own mother beaten to death by her step-father. She truly was so much stronger then she believed herself to be.

Lena & Jackson seem to the poster relationship for fate! The way that same fate brought them them together is…..well it’s sweet.

Lena is married to Troy and he is seriously abusive. She’s been planning to leave him for a few months but when he comes home drunk and almost kills her, she runs. Literally runs out the door with nothing but a trench coat on and her purse. She digs up the bit of money she’s saved and hits the road. When she lands in a tiny town called Turtle Creek she stops, she doesn’t have a choice. She has a black eye, back pain, a concussion and most likely bruised ribs. She enters a nearby bar for a cup of coffee and some rest, but what she gets is Jackson….

Jackson is extremely smart and talented. He plays guitar in a band (like Lena used to do), graduated high school at 16 and has had several jobs before settling down to run this bar with his younger brother. He also has a bit of a habit, rescuing wounded animals. He’s rescued and nursed back to health numerous animals and his next one is going to be Lena.

They instantly connect and even though she has serious trust issues she just feels that connection and decides to trust him. Once she tells him her story will he help her or turn her in? Can she trust him? How will he feel if he has to let this one go too?

I really enjoyed this book! It’s sweet. Just really sweet. The way Jackson is with Lena and how he just knows, with instinct, what she needs and when. How he helps her - it’s amazing!

When I first started reading this book, I really scared for Lena. She was married to a monster, who is finally determined to kill her. Before he can succeed, she stabs him as he is strangling her. Believing him to be dead, Lena does the one thing she has only dreamed of doing.

She runs.

She doesn't care where she goes, she just knows that she has to get as far away from Troy as physically possible. Lena knows if he isn't dead, he will stop at nothing to find her and finish the job he started.

When she walks into a pub and meets Jackson Beaumont, she doesn't expect him to be the one to change her life. She's beaten up badly and is only wanting a cup of coffee and some peace and quiet.

Jackson takes one look at her and knows she is in some kind of trouble. He doesn't believe her lie about being in a car accident. He also knows that someone's fist caused her injuries. Always having a soft heart to help wounded creatures, he decides to help Lena. He's not too worried about whoever she is running from, he just wants her safe and healed.

What he doesn't expect is the attraction he feels for her. He knows that the last thing she needs is another man in her life coming on to her, so he gives her the space she needs. The last Lena expects is kindness from anyone. For so long she's been dealing with her husbands cruelty that she's rightfully apprehensive about accepting kindness from any man.

Jackson gives her a place to stay, food in her stomach, and most importantly, the chance to see that not all men are evil creatures. She's terrified to trust him, but knows she has no choice.

I loved this book! It was gut-wrenching reading Lena go through what Troy did to her, but she had the courage to get out. She had the courage to run until she was safe. Because of everything he did to her, she believed she was weak. She didn't understand the strength inside of her. Just the simple act of getting away from the violence showed an immense strength of her being.

Oh my God... I so loved Jackson!! He never pushed Lena farther then what she was comfortable with; and only ever wanted to take care of her. Knowing her fear of killing her husband, he does a little digging of his own for her to find out the truth.

Then Lena sees an old friend in the pub. One she hasn't seen since before he left her husband. What she finds out sets about a chain of events that almost has her running again.

As I said, I loved this book!! I loved seeing how Lena discovered who she was without Troy there to bring her down. With Jackson's help, she's able to see that there are actually men out there capable of love and tenderness and not anger and violence.

Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha - Chelle:
*copy gifted for an honest review

Beautifully Wounded (formerly The Fawn) was a wonderfully gripping story about rising above oppression, finding salvation, discovering beauty and joy in the little things, and the transformative properties of true love...

A contemporary new adult romance, Beautifully Wounded follows Lena through her journey as she escapes from a terribly abusive husband and finally strikes out on her own, all the way to where she is able to find the love she truly deserves, both from herself and from another.

Touching on a subject that isn't much used in fiction because it's oftentimes hard to read, Beautifully Wounded starts with scenes of domestic abuse. While gut-wrenching in their intensity, the scenes are integral to setting up Lena's story and her motivation and mindset for the rest of the book. There are times within this first part of the book that you will become breathless and want to look away. You will hate and rail and wonder if the author is writing from experience. I asked, and the answer is no (thank goodness!), but what that all means is that the writing is superb and done with such finesse, it immediately sucks you in.

As Lena's journey leads her farther away from her abusive husband and out onto her own, she ultimately ends up finding Jackson, and let me just say that you will immediately add another book boyfriend to your list of favorites!

Lena and Jackson's story is sweet, emotional, and a truly enjoyable read. One thing I will note is that the pace of the story, given the subject matter that builds the heroine's character, is a bit rushed, but it's a work of fiction and there are only so many pages to work with, especially if the meat of the story is supposed to be the romance. Susan couldn't have changed this without adding a lot of no action time slips or uncomfortable parts of the book that wouldn't be light enough for an NA romance. It's called out in the beginning of the book before the acknowledgments that it's a work of fiction and in no way meant to be a realistic journey of a true battered wife. I hope that readers will keep this in mind while reading, because outside of the fact that yes, Lena and Jack do end up falling in love quickly, it's a romance book, and that's what we're all hoping for, isn't it!?

I would definitely recommend this book for fans of sweet contemporary romance with some danger and intrigue thrown in for good measure.
