Cold Sassy Tree is both hilarious and tenderly moving. I have read it numerous times and enjoyed each reading just as much as the first. It is very well-written; the characters are intriguing; the story so sweet and funny and moving. You'll feel right at home in Cold Sassy and I guarantee you won't regret a minute spent there. If you like southern regional literature, sit back and enjoy this classic, set at the turn of the 20th century, and become familiar with each person and situation like they are happening to dear friends or family and to you! Have some tissue ready...and hold onto your belly from all the laughing out loud! You are in for a treat, for sure!

I have read this book over and over again because of how much I love the characters and setting. This book is a feel good type book and the 14 year old character is so real. It's set in Georgia in the 1900's and is very entertaining and is filled with such emotion and heartwarming experiences. This is definitely a must read book for anyone who loves a good story. It is also an easy read.

A really good read. Very believable story line and the writer captures the time period and carries the plot line through the entire book. I would recommend to anyone looking for some good reading. There is humor and plenty of it and there is tradgedy and great character development.

Enjoyed the read, was saddened to know that the author had passed away before finishing her second book. Hope she had some idea of what a good job she had done and that her words will be out there for so many people to enjoy.

This is a downright enjoyable story, with memorable characters on every page. It's life--the joy, the pain, the struggles, the success, the tears, the laughter (very heavy on the laughter). Rucker Blakesley is a fine, American hero, philosopher, prankster and preacher, though he'd only embrace the prankster title!

The story of a close family. Enjoyed this sweet tale of family's struggles and happy times and how they pulled together when needed. The author did a wonderful job of bringing the characters to life and giving them each a personality. Loved this book.

This book makes small town life real. The characters had many facets and their doings were heart-warming, funny, sad and always engaging. It was difficult to put this down and I feel that I know many of the characters personally. I highly recommend this book.

Ms. Burns weaves a tale of small town Georgia through the eyes of a boy who's is coming of age. The characters she introduces are like long lost relatives, their stories like family history. A wonderful tale of family ties, life, death, birth and getting on with it.

Love love love this book. The characters are charming, the story is absorbing and you are left with a warm feeling every time you think about it afterwards. I found myself resding more slowly as i got towards the end, trying to prolong the pleasure. I read it on kindle and now have ordered it in book form for my family to enjoy.

The characters come alive from the viewpoint of a teenage boy growing up in a town where everyone thrives on being in everyone's business. I enjoyed the book from the beginning. I was surprised that the book was written many years ago. Then I was thankful that it was available on the store for my kindle.

This is a most unusual book. I enjoyed the narrative and the use of "county words". The story depicts happening in the life
of the 14 year old and his perspective of his family's life happenings.

An interesting first book but the second book is not worth the money. Incomplete. The author died and the second book wasn't finished but for some reason is still being promoted when you finish book one.

Well written fictional novel told from a young man's view of growing up in a small southern town about century ago. The author did a fine job portraying family, small town life and current social conditions of the time.

This is a splendid tale of family and community. It examines social pressure, family responsibility, respect and love. The characters leap out of the pages and entangle themselves in our minds and hearts. It speaks of growing up and maturing amidst strong traditions and family.

Will Tweety, Grandpa Blakeslee and Cold Sassy will be in your thoughts long after you finish the last page. Cold Sassy is a wonderful yarn about loving, losing, family and small town "what will the neighbors think" dramas ... with Grandpa and Will adding humor, mischief and simple truths about what's really important in life.

I liked this book very much. If you like character driven plots, you will enjoy this look back at a different time and place viewed through the eyes of a boy growing up. It's a nice change of pace from the fast paced books of today.

I really liked this book written about a bygone era. I loved the voice of the narrator, Will Tweedy. I am old enough to have had relatives that lived during the time of the story. It struck a familiar chord.

Even though the book was lengthy, the characters and story really kept your interest.
The best portion of this novel, is in the last few chapters. If you like to read about family, the southern culture and good insights into the values of what is really important in life, this book is for you. Looking forward to reading the sequel.

A very enjoyable read; well written and quite pleasant; the author describes the period very well and fully defines the characters.
It's not a long book and it makes for a pleasant way to devote some time to reading it.

Cold Sassy Tree grabbed me early on. Of course, it took me a bit into the book to discern whether the "storyteller" was male or female! The book was told in the vernacular of the times in Cold Sassy Tree, Georgia, 1906. This was a time when automobiles were just beginning to be owned in small towns; when lots of home still had to go out to the privy and till had gas lights. But a new day was dawning and along with it, in Cold Sassy Tree, Will Tweedy told its story with much love and humor.
This work was a low-key page-turner. I was surprised that i found myself not wanting to stop reading.
I saw that there is a sequel, "Leaving Cold Sassy" and because of my Kindle, I was able to order it and begin reading immediately following the end of "Cold Sassy Tree".
When I complete a book, if I find i can't wait to read the next book by the same author, I know the book just finished was a favorite. I hope you enjoy Cold Sassy Tree as much as I.

This modern classic paints a loving picture of the early twentieth century of Georgia
While the language reflects the times and education, the story shows the love among an extended family. Saying the words aloud in your head helps to “hear" the speech.
