Death Sentence (DI Nick Dixon Crime Book 6)

An excellent, taut police procedural with an engaging character in DI Dixon. The relationship and love he has with both his beloved dog and girlfriend Jane made me an immediate fan. The mystery is a complex one and brought to a brilliant end by Dixon.
The murder of an ex-soldier in a WWII pillbox is the main crime and gives the reader much insight into the Falklands war. There are scenes in caves that were intense, especially for this claustrophobic reader!
A gripping book that makes me want to read the entire series, I highly recommend this book.

Boyd weaves history, geography, and mystery in this Dixon narrative, but the superfluous use of expletives detracted from the reading pleasure.
The whole point of enjoying these stories is the ability to juxtapose realism and intelligence without reducing the IQ.
Hopefully, the next installment will demonstrate finer writing by Mr. Boyd.

Another great book from Damien Boyd and my favourite so far. This is a real page turner and I couldn't put it down. I like the fact that they are set in SW England and the detail to which Damien Boyd goes to when writing the books. Keep a look out for one of the character's name. I won't say anymore - I'll just let you read and see if you can spot the character I'm talking about!!
