The Haunting of Gillespie House, great book! If you love ghost stories with "creep factor" like I do.....This one's for you.
While I felt the main character was a very nosy one, I liked that she was a bad ass in her own rite. She wasn't the big boobed bimbo...always running the wrong direction. She ran straight TO the scary events and that's a girl after my own heart.
I love the historical ghost stories in old Gothic houses and this one didn't disappoint. I am reading "Ghost Camera" next. I like the authors style.
I highly recommend this book. I think you'll be pleased you bought it.

I really enjoyed this book! The plot moved along at a good pace, and I couldn't put it down until I had finished it. I will be looking for other horror stories from Ms. Coates, as I definitely recommend this novel to others.

I initially agreed to provide a review for a free copy, but was never able to download the book, but at .99 cents, I felt it was worth it to fulfill my promise. The story starts with a bang, I plunged into the story with abandon! Somewhere in the middle I got a little lost. I couldn't understand how someone could offer to house sit and then go about damaging the property! I put it down for awhile (it is Christmas after all and focused on something else entirely). When I went back I was again immersed in the story. Where the middle might be a little daunting, with a lack of explanation for the heroine's audacious behavior, where that behavior led was surprising and terrifying. Don't miss this book. The characters are well done and the story is startling! I will definitely be following this authors books!

Purchased as Whispersync on the cheap courtesy of Book Deals.
Nice creepy tale of hidden passages, ghosts, a sorcerer, and the unsuspecting house sitter. First she rejoices in the solitude of a large victorian away from town and away from the little apartment she lives in, but she soon has a lot of second thoughts on the subject. Suspense is done with a light enough touch that it does not descend into real horror.
The narrator has a pleasant voice quality and good pacing, but is a little light on portraying the depth of emotion and sense of urgency.

Most of this story seemed to focus on "explore house, get scared, run outside, then go back inside" and then wash, rinse, repeat. The reasoning for the character wasn't the best. It was descriptive, I will give it that, and the plot had some good twists to it. It needed more to it, though. More explanation, more exposition, and more characters to have the protagonist bounce against.
