While initially seeming a little too simplistic I found the logic and explanations to be BASIC instead of simple. Basic allows for flexibility, it admits a variety of strengths and weaknesses. It is a philosophy for humans. I think I'll read it again.

The Anatomy of Peace opened my eyes and clearly showed me why my well-intentioned efforts often create negative results and destructive conflict. Though I had read Leadership and Self-Deception and found it helpful in my work life, I did not make a strong connection to my relationships outside of work. The pages of The Anatomy of Peace filled me with hopeful - yet sometimes personally painful - images of what often traps me in paralyzing thinking that is the root of festering and counterproductive conflicts.
Just learning about these traps was well worth my time; however, the greater rewards were concrete antidotes for getting and staying free of these traps. I highly recommend this book to everyone I know, especially my friends who, like me, struggle with relationships with the sons and daughters that they sincerely want to help - yet through their actions they seemingly build more conflict and destruction.

This book is a wonderful, inspiring read. I had to read it for a college course, but I will definitely share this with others and use it outside of the classroom. It covers interesting, complex concepts using wonderful diagrams and stories. This book teaches new lessons upon each rereading. I would recommend this book for any work team, family, class, or group.

The message and strategies in the book can change your live. I work hard to implement them on a daily basis and recommend this book to everyone that I know. It's easier for people to access and relate to than Leadership and Self-Deception, but I would still recommend anything the Arbinger Institute puts out

I read Leadership and Self Deception several years ago and enjoyed the book. It was a good approach to the more sensitive sides of leadership and management--although I thought it lacked some of the depth and simplicity that I was hoping for.
The Anatomy of Peace was, in my opinion, a better read than Leadership and Self Deception. I enjoyed the story and the application felt a little more universal.
I highly recommend this book.

I just finished this book last night. Hard to put down. Well written and easy to follow, using a fictional narrative to teach principles of avoiding conflict.
Set in a treatment program setting, several people discover how they are destroying their relationships with their children/co-workers. The reader learns first, how they are wrecking their relationships; second, how to view themselves in a different way; third, how to change AND maintain the new outlook and heal broken communication lines. The Change Pyramid at the end was very helpful.
Essentially, all this boils down to the Golden Rule and loving our neighbors as ourselves. Where people go wrong is seeing where they fail in this setting. This book, a sequel and a much better personal substitute for "Leadership and Self Deception" gives practical advice and entertaining examples that many could relate to on some level.

My counselor recommended this book to me. I had no idea what to expect. It's very well written. Instead of your normal self-help book, it's written as fiction and has a story. So you find yourself actually caring about what happens in the story and learning all the principles they're trying to reach you as well. Genius.

A lot of insight on topics that are troubling the world today. There is a lot to clean from the simple story told and I'd recommend this quick read. I plan to read it over again regularly to make sure I'm on track!

I had never heard of Arbinger Institute, but this book was highly recommended by someone I trust so I ordered it and read it! It was fabulous - I will never see people the same again! It is very well-written in a story format, which is easy to read and understand!
At first I thought I had a heart at peace, but as I read the book I learned all the ways that my heart was at war. It also told what you need to do to get your heart back at peace. It also teaches the importance of seeing all people as people, and not objects. When we start seeing people as objects instead of people, our heart is at war.
I will never see myself or others the same after reading this!

I loved the book, but having read Leadership and Self Deception first, this seemed like more of a prequel than a follow up. I would recommend reading this one first if you haven't read their first book, yet. However, millions of people have, in which case this does not give a lot of new information.
I would like to see them write a follow up to L&SD and explore the rest of that story and how to spread the concept throughout the company and use those measurement tools the talked about.

The anatomy of peace was an insightful book that helped me understand how I view other people and my self.
The strategies and insights of this book helps you see people as people and not just objects.
Self betrayal, justification and collusion are terms you will experience in this book.
You can't change your behavior until you change your heart.
If you have conflict in your workplace, I highly recommend that you read this book and change the thinking in your company or organization.

This book is framed in the setting of parents bringing their troubled children to a "wilderness" rehab camp run by an Israeli and a Palestinian. The parents are required to participate in a group therapy encounter session. It is not the typical encounter group, but one which explores the interdependency of family problems. The paradigm is that it is as improtant to prevent future problems as it is to fix current ones.Novel...
It is a fast read, almost like reading a novel with easily explained readily implemented concepts.
The goal is for all of us to be more human, more understanding of ourselves and fellow human beings and treat all with respect.

The Anatomy of Peace: Resolving the Hearth of Conflict is a must read. The insight this book offers into human relations is so far reaching. Whether you are a teenager trying to make your way in the social scene in high school or a world leader trying to solve international conflicts between nations, this book is for you. Buy it, read it, apply it and you will be making the world a better place to live in, and your personal life much more fulfilling.

Definitely helpful, unsophisticated, narrative with diagrams of the parts of human nature we don't want to look at, but must be accountable for is we say we want peace in our relationships, community and nation.

Even more than its predecessor, "Leadership and Self-deception", The Anatomy of Peace lays bare the foundational conflicts that give rise to the vast majority of external conflicts in our lives. Written in a fictionalized narrative that illustrates and enlivens the principles of self-deception, the development early self-awareness, and the self-inventory questions to develop greater insight, this book has the potential to reach anyone who desires to discover the "heart of peace". The ancient admonition to "love our neighbor as ourselves" has been given a contemporary and immediate relevance that our world desperately needs.

This book contains some very simple truth that can be hard to fully understand and take in, if you are human. It is told very clearly as a parable. It is an fast easy read that contains some wisdom that we all need. I try to read it once a year and have given it to many of my friends and family.

I've often wondered where the phrase "think outside the box" came from; what does it really mean? Now I not only understand it, I was able to identify what MY box is. Perhaps I should say my boxes, as I came to see myself in two of the types described. And I came to realize how even the "right" things can sometimes be done for the wrong reasons. Anyone who sometimes has difficulties dealing with other people needs to read this book. It can have positive ramifications for family, work and social relationships.

The Arbinger Institute has addressed an issue at the very heart of human relationships and has captured the struggle we all have to see others as human beings who matter as much as we matter. With simple, easy to understand diagrams and a fascinating storyline, this book will change your way of being forever. Whether you are struggling with a teenager, a spouse, a co-worker or in any other relationship, the concepts made real in this book will increase your ability to have a heart at peace and to resolve conflict. Thanks to Arbinger for its thoughtful work!

The content is excellent. The book would have been top-class were it not for the unpolished use of the narrative style, which keeps the reader interested throughout explanations of the theory, but in many places felt forced and was annoying. The format of the paperback is awkward: it is a large book, printed in a large font, making it inconvenient to carry around; the kindle version is fine.

I read this book after reading "Leadership and Self-Deception" which fits well together. While this book can stand on it's own, I recommend reading both. After a painful personal event, a friend recommended that I read these. It reminded me a lot of identifying where things went wrong, and ways to change things in the future. I can see where this would be highly useful in the workplace as well. Following these ideas can help reduce conflicts between work groups and the usual silo-ing of work groups. All in all, very worthwhile!

I feel that this book truly focuses on showing you how to be at peace with yourself and not to give others the power to control you or your behavior. It's so much more than my statement; you will just need to read it for yourself!

In a world full of conflict, it's overwhelming to know where to begin. This book provides a map. Whether with your child, your employee, your spouse, or your boss, you can facilitate change from a place of peace. It always begins with you, but this book clarifies so well why that is true. It does so through a rich story that really anchors the lessons. It should be required reading in every home and every organization, including governments. Thank you for providing hope!

Wow. Recommend for anyone who who has to interact with others in a leadership position of any sort. I felt it was insightful, even if some of the examples were hard to relate to. I think it is a great starting point for discussions about basic relationships with others.

The Anatomy of Peace offers us the ability to make the world a better place. Nothing "touchy-feely" here - this is about courageously understanding myself in relationship with others. In this simply profound story I found ways to tap into the very best of others through my way of being. The stories contained within offer to meet us where we are - at work, with family or even at war and guide us to lives of peace, more specifically, to hearts at peace. Anatomy of Peace offers a maturing and expansion of the ideas introduced in Leadership and Self Deception. It is a delight, a challenge and a "must read."
