The material is good as always with Maxwell. We ordered these workbooks to go along with the video teaching found on Right Now Media and the ones recommended by them. The workbooks do not follow the videos. These are still good but a little cumbersome using with a group.

Great boook for all humans who either lead themselves or have anyone around them that they want to influence. Everything we do can influence those around us and the point is - how do we want to live and how do we want to leverage our influence on others. great book, great philosophies that help you grow.

This book took me months to reds because it seemed as if I could only process and implement a few pages per week. I want to read it again someday soon so I can continue to process all of the gems of information Maxwell has put in this book.

Like any book, this one has some insights. What's remarkable is how well hidden they are in a grotesque pile of platitudes, sport metaphors, Charlie Brown anecdotes (more than 5 examples from Charlie brown are given throughout the book!!) and lists of things that are so self-evident you'll wonder if the author is just adding them to fill up the book.
The impression he gives throughout the book is that of a man who fakes avuncular charm and good nature, but who comes across as deeply arrogant, self-congratulatory and condescending.
Not recommended.

I had this book for a leadership class. Between the four books, I found I read this book the fastest due to the enjoyment of reading. While Maxwell does not cover every aspect of being a leader (no one book can), he does cover a good basis for learning more about being a leader.

Dr. John Maxwell shares his candid, tried, and true insights about leadership and developing leadership skills based on over 20+ years of experience and research.

I love his saying about why and when people will change...
People will change when they hurt enough that they have to, learn enough that they want to, and receive enough that they are able to.

From my experience, the biggest hurdle to changing is being comfortable. We don't hurt enough that we have to, and we continue to accept our lot.
To be a growing leader, we have to be comfortable being uncomfortable.

A great read.

This book was recommended for a class. It has helped me to see myself from a completely different perspective. Rather than just knowing I have weaknesses and strengths, I now realize more clearly what they are and how I can begin to improve.

I recently got promoted to management position in a pharmacy and really had no experience as a manager. A HR rep recommended this book and I could not put this book down. It gives you a basic understanding of what it means to lead and to manage your staff and resources. This is a must have for someone who needs some guidance in managing people and has some good problem solving strategies, as well as information on how to prioritize you time to make the most out of the time you spend working.

Just as described, the book is pretty much brand new with only a few highlighted lines which I don't mind because they were important information and I was going to highlight them anyways! Great seller I recommend.

I first purchased and read this book around 15 years ago and have re-read it numerous times throughout my career. I now purchase it and make it required reading for anyone that works for me in a leadership role. It has hands down had the most impact on me, both professionally and personnally, than any other book I have read.

One of the best leadership books I have read! Most books cover only one leadership subject. This book covers so many areas to enhance your leadership skills. I am a very copious note taker. I ended up taking 26 pages of notes due to the content. I would recommend this book to anyone who is a leader, who wants to become a leader or use it to teach a leadership program!

Recently became a manager and thought you could read to educate yourself on how to manage staff, a total joke. There is no book that good yet! A good book though, my best advice, go with your gut instinct!

Many of Maxwell's books have a similar vibe, feel, and content. This books is no different and you will find many stories and ideas he has used in previous books. "Developing the Leader" takes his best and gives a wonderful guide. I enjoyed his chapter on employee management the most.

This book is amazing! It takes the fundamentals of leadership and breaks them down into simple (yet extremely effective) categories and steps to making the reader understand not just what it takes to be a leader, but how important it is to treat your followers! The author uses many real-life examples throughout the book, making each segment easier to relate to. Such a great book, I will be re-reading it for years to come!

The stories of leadership (Eastern Air, Titanic Survivor) are oversimplified or flat out wrong. I couldn't even finish it after finding so many factual stories twisted around to fit his shallow narrative.

This is a book for people who already are part of his school of thought, sitting down in the choir for repetitive preaching. There are a plethora of books out there that offer more practical, better researched and backed up practices.

If you want a book filled with anecdotes, "true stories" that aren't, and stories that may or may not be true but you can't tell because they're awkwardly told, this is your book.

This book has been an excellent help for our leadership team at A.L.O.C. (Abundant Life Outreach Church) in Marquette, MI. We have an accomplished group of individuals that were solidified more by openly studying the lessons and applying what was learned to increase the strength of the team and each-others' departments. A great tool for any organization and anyone's personal library.
Thank you Mr. Maxwell, well done sir!
