This book offers amazing insights into men. Even though it is a fictional tale, it has relevant and real life knowledge that is applicable to any woman who wants to understand the men in her life better. I definitely recommend it. I also loved Alison's class: Celebrating Men Satisfying Women (PAX).

I buy her books and audio programs and "gift them" to the women in my life all the time. She's the best thing out there for understanding men and the value that women are to them! Buy it as fast as you can. REALLY!

This book was my first introduction to Ms. Armstrong's work and I'm not a fan. Her focus is very clearly on men as primary breadwinners and women as helpmeets; according to her, at a certain stage in his life a man NEEDS to focus on building his career, and his partner would do best making sure he has clean clothes, encouragement, and lunch money so that he doesn't have to burden himself with those details. Also, men NEED time to change their clothes and take a half hour to themselves when they come home from work.
I say that everyone regardless of gender would probably appreciate someone taking care of their laundry and ensuring there's a moment of peace when the workday is done, but Ms. Armstrong would say that's because I have become "masculinized" during my time in the working world. How convenient that any complaint I might have with her viewpoint is dismissed that way! It's particularly disingenous that the book claims to support relationships based on partnership, but in the final analysis it turns out that the male partner has immutable needs that his woman should accommodate to keep the relationship harmonious.
Two stars since there are a few solid pieces of advice, mostly related to the importance of asking for what you want, the corrosive nature of criticism, and the need to save your best self for the people in your house.

What an insight. In the short time since I started reading this book, I have had more understanding of my husband and how the male works,We have drawn closer just by my gaining some understanding and applying that knowledge to life. The story was both touching and understable to almost everyone. I have recommended this book to many other women already. What a harmonious world we could live in if men and womaen could understand each other. Im ready for the next step.

Only when you hear someone else accurately describe your natural human nature that you even become aware of it. It makes so more sense looking back on my own life and seeing these stages men go through really exist. I found Alison to be very accurate and fair to men’s natural nature.

Good book. Mostly goes over the main ideas for the author's theory on how men think and why, told in fictional form. But no indepth help. She encourages you to take one of her seminars in order to get the real info on how to improve one's relationship with men.

A wonderful read. Thank you, Lorna, for recommending it. It is a wonderful blend of good old fashioned common women/men sense but updated to fit our current culture. It will help you create much more satisfying relationships in all areas of your life.

Useful info, but SO heteronormative and with outdated gender roles (and poorly written to boot). Like eye-rollingly bad prose. But if you can get past that, there's some really interesting stuff about how to understand guys. Worth it, just don't expect amazing writing or groundbreaking gender roles.

Full disclosure that I have attended Alison Armstrong's workshop, so I'm very open to her teachings. But this book is a great vessel for the expression of these teachings, which I've found to be transformative.

After reading this wonderful book and having experienced two long term failed marriages and one long term failed life partner it is refreshing to know that I should not bear the blame. Thank you for helping know what I truly need in my search for my next companion.

A witty, charming and hilarious story which captured my heart and desire to truly understand and accept my partner. In an intelligent way, it left me with new insight into not only my relationship.. but myself!

I would recommend this reading for men and women and the sharing with sons and daughters (and:or young people) as they approach relationships with the opposite sex. I especially enjoyed the insight given to the spiritual nature of true love that knows no boundaries. This insight allows those who are ready to continue on the path to further study and eventually greater understanding.

OMGoodness. I have read this several times and have never been touched so deeply in a healing way where it transforms my attitude and softens my approach towards relationships, partnerships and men. Alison's work is not for everyone, as it gently confronts some very deep beliefs ... but the change it's brought forth is me has been noticed in the real world ... especially by men in public who now see a softness and approachability that I was obviously not displaying before. So much appreciation for this book.
