Sensually written and differing from the original version of the story. I really hoped there would be an ending that would lead the reader to have interest in buying the next book by offering a thrilling possibility. That aside, I will say that I really enjoyed this book. I can't wait to see what happens at the conclusion of the first week of the new "agreement".

Fantastic retake on a classic! I couldn't stop reading all three books, I honestly wish there were more! The characters are captivating and if you love beauty and the beast this won't disappoint! I do recommend this book for adults as there are adult scenarios and deal with heavy topics such as rape. The ends justify the means.

I usually sample books before I purchase them. I almost never purchase "novellas," generally because there is no real development of characters. This first of a series of three was free, so I decided, why not. Great Read. I purchased the next two in the series, not because of cliffhanger endings, but because of the writing style, story and character development. I would HIGHLY recommend purchasing the complete set. Also, I never leave reviews, but I think after reading a couple of dozen books in this category, its a great read, for a rainy sunday afternoon. Fantastic Job!

I have read many different Beauty and the Beast type romance books and this is by far my favorite of them all. I love the magic and enchantment of the book. There is darkness but hope as well. Benella is such a strong girl, even if she is naive. She is courageous in spite of her circumstances. I really enjoyed her character and the twist on the enchanted characters that resided at the mansion with the beast. I couldn't put the book down until I finished it and immediately bought the second book.

I really enjoyed this book. The way she always thinks of her family first, even though her sisters are selfish. What she does to help her family. Now there were a few scenes portraying sex of the sorts, so be warned. I liked how the beast changed a little but what I didn't like was the very extreme part outside the window with the "tree". That's all I can complain about when it comes to this book.

I'm really left questioning all the negativity in reviews left.
I felt nothing but compassion for Benella. And too, for the Beast. How could one be absolutely forgotten by the world, left in absolute nothingness, and not become an animal?
I'm leaving a high five......stars for the story that has been spun here. Also, I am very excited about reading the next book in this series.

I liked the story line. I liked the main character, she was strong and smart. The only reason I gave a 3 star was because there were quite a few things in this book that was inappropriate. There were adult scenes and lots of sexual encounters, which I thought ruined the book. There are two more books to this series, but the content is suppose to be even more inappropriate.

I enjoy fairytale rewrites/updates and this one was wonderful in building 3D characters and tugging on my emotions. M.J.Haha had me entranced before the first chapter. The cliff hanger, well it worked, I had to immediately get the next book to find out how things would work out! Thank you for a delightful, full bodied read!

This intriguing interpretation is mysterious, creepy, fascinating and sad. A kind heart for her family, yet she's treated atrocious. Always placed into dangerous situations and taken for granted, Belle has the most placed on her shoulders. She's the youngest and most pragmatic. The beasts interest is unsettling but not as much as the bakers or the smiths vile sons. Her father does his best but with two of his three daughters only thinking of themselves, it it an arduous task. Great story.

An erotic retelling of 'Beauty and the Beast', 'Depravity' proved to be far more engaging than I had anticipated. I really enjoyed the way this author changed the story up enough to make it stand out from the rest. You could definitely see the inspiration from the classic story, but the characters and unique details separated this retelling from many others.
As I listened to the audiobook, I found myself swept up in Benella's day to day life. She was a fabulous heroine and easy to love. Her existence was bleak, but she managed to be the bright part of everyone's day. Everyone seemed to feed off of her goodness and I wanted her to be rescued from her dire situation.
Although a bit gruff, I found the Beast to be likable right from the start. Sure, he was rough around the edges, but everything he did was to save Benella. Time and time again, he came to her rescue. At times, I was even frustrated with her for failing to fully appreciate everything that he did for her.
My biggest complaint with this story is that it is only part of the story. I didn't realize this when I purchased the audiobook and am a little peeved, mostly with myself for not figuring this out beforehand. 'Depravity' ends with Benella agreeing to stay with the Beast.
If you're familiar with the classic, which I'm sure practically everybody is, you know that this is pretty early-on in the scheme of things. At this rate, I might have to read 2-4 more books before I ever get to any action between Benella and the Beast. That is quite a while to wait.
However, I have to admit that I thoroughly enjoyed this story. The narration was great and it was a joy to listen to. I'm sure I will be buying the remaining books in no time to finish this story out. As far as classic retellings go, this was superb. I just wanted more.

Beauty and the Beast is my favorite fairy tale. I love the way the author's vision of this classic tale. There's still the two self absorbed sisters and the father is a kind, hard-working (in this case) teacher just trying to provide for his family. But this version of the fairy tale is an adult story. Part 2 was just released in July and part 3 is due for release in November. I look forward to reading the rest of the "A Beastly Tale" series.

It was a pretty good read really enjoyed the series! I won't spoil anything just need to say the way the author has written this book was very clever, couple things I didn't like in the story but I don't think the story would have work without it and it definitely wasn't strong enough for me to turn away from the book. It was a very good adult spin on the Beauty and the Beast :)

I've just finished the third and last book. Wow. Definitely kept me reading. I'm sure I'll want to re-read this series later. These books had very, very few typos/grammatical errors! Which seems to be a rare thing these days. I loved the character of Benella. She was wise beyond her years - in some ways, and too forgiving in others. There was character growth in many of the people in the book, although not all. Also, I have found many series where I read the first book and the second has a very different vibe. Not so with this set. It's more like a single story continued through three books. (That's the one thing I would like to be different. This could have been one single book.) Would highly recommend this story!

I really enjoyed this series. Though there was some drama, it wasn't forced or petty, it didn't make me want to roll my eyes or say "get over it". I really liked Binni and the Beast. The relationship somewhat reminded me of Clare Dunkle's book The Hollow Kingdom. And even though you think you know how the story is going to go there are a few surprises.

Because the title tells us this is a Beauty & Beast novel there is an expectation that B&B will have some kind if relationship. They sort-of do--she does odd jobs around his enchanted estate in exchange for food to take home. He mostly lurks ominously in the background & growls....but I was intrigued enough by Bini and her adventures that I am curious to see how she and the beast can build something that would interest both of them.

Depravity is a wonderful new twist on the Beauty and Beast classic! Beautifully written M.J. Haag tells her version of this classic story. I love the start and development of the Benella and the Beast relationship. Depravity will captivate you and keep you on your toes as the adventures of Beauty and her Beast begin. I’m very much looking forward to more of the story (Parts 2 & 3 coming soon). You won’t want to miss out on this adventure.

An interesting take on the traditional Beauty and the Beast story but sadly let down by the instalment style of publishing. If I'd known it was just the first part of a set of three I wouldn't have bothered.

I absolutely adored this book. The writing is superb. This is an age old tale but from such a new and lovely concept. When this book ended, there was no way that I couldn't buy the next immediately to continue the saga. That hasn't happened to me in a long long time.
I will be following M.J. Haag....

Absolutely loved this book. I liked it so much that if it wasn't free I would have paid for it. So far I have nothing negative to say. I will definitely be reading the next book in the series. I like that the beauty in this book also has a good head on her shoulders. The magic is mysterious and a bit dark. The other characters are believable and I wish I could meet some of them in real life. This is the version that should be in theaters, sorry Disney.

The book kept me engaged for several hours until the finish. The ending is a bit abrupt and, from what I read of the excerpt for the second book, it seems like the author intentionally split the three sections into books. It is still a fantastic read, and if you have the money to get the next two, I encourage you to do so. I can only guess that the writing is just as good in the next books as it is in the first.

Different - I read a lot of romance novels so when find something that isn't the typical fluff I get excited. This is not the happily ever after story and the story touches abuse and other items that make you uncomfortable at times. I couldn't predict everything that happens so that gives a five star in my book . I enjoyed the story enough I immediately bought the second and third books, which you need to do as it ends on a cliff hanger.. For those that didnt notice it ends on a cliffhanger, read the description it tells you there so you are warned. I got the first book cheaply so try it if you prefer a little more substance to your light reading.

A "gray" version of Disney's Beauty and the Beast.
I don't indulge in this genre often although I do enjoy occasionally as a palate cleanser. This is book one in the series and in spite of zero sex and zero violence, it's a decent read if you like enchanted forests among other things.

I loved this retelling of Beauty and the Beast. It gives Beauty strength and power with femininity and grace. It shows how twisted the sisters and father, but does it in a way that makes you sympathetic because it is simply their personalities and not mere cruelty. And it allows you to see how depraved the Beast truly is to want someone to use and command versus to love and cherish.

This series retelling the story of Beauty and the Beast was a pleasure to read. As a matter of fact, it was all I could do to put it down to go to sleep ( I do have to work for a living, after all). I read the whole series in a matter of days, even with work and sleep getting in the way - I simply could not wait for the next page :-)

I accidentally download romance/erotica sometimes and I really don't mean to. I don't care for the genre in the least. But this author's writing is so smooth, the scenes flow together so seamlessly, and the characters so lively that I read it through to the end anyway. I absolutely loved all of the non-erotic parts of this story, and the erotica was blessedly very little.

Very good book. Well written and interesting. I loved the way the story plays out and the ending that is both a ending and a new beginning. I really look forward to reading the next part of this story.

The main character has a lame name, but is endlessly fascinating. I like her. The beast doesn't have much of a personality yet. The sisters are complex, and I hope they continue to grow and stay in the story. Off to the next one.

This was the perfect amount of romance, steamy scenes, and well thought out story line. I definitely recommend the series to any fantasy fans and lovers of fairy tales. Haag gives a unique spin to the Beauty and the Beast legend that has you falling for the beast just as much as Benella! Here's to hoping Haag has more fairy tale inspired romances!! This one was great!!

Ok, I missed the blurb about "sexual situations" before I downloaded this "book". I'm not a prude but the sexual situations in this book just seemed jarring and interrupted the flow of what was actually turning into a fun and interesting twisted fairy tale. A cross between Beauty and the Beast and Cinderella. Oh, and no real ending. It's one of those "books" that drops you off a cliff in an effort to get you to buy the remaining chapters, in this case Book 2 and 3. I never do that because I detest that gimmick. The last time I fell for that was the Twilight series. Won't be seeing how this one turned out.

Well! The ending left me pining for the next book that's for sure! I am not a fan of the "sexy scenes", but I suppose they have their place in this telling. One can thoroughly enjoy this book regardless.

This is a beautiful and somewhat twisted tale of Beauty and the Beast. I never quite knew where I was heading next but knew I wanted to be taken there.
Benella is a smart, strong willed girl who will do anything for her Father while keeping within what makes her feel comfortable. Her life has always been one of struggle but she does what she can to make it easier, although her sisters do not help! When she comes across the Beast she takes only what she needs but it must be under her terms.
I can't wait to read the next book in this series. If you like to read something out of the ordinary, this is a must!

Horrible. I found the story was dragged out; the beast's fowl temperament was exhausting, and the cliff hanger at the end was irritating. I can't recommend, and will not continue the story. Back to the drawing board with you M.J. Haag.

Throughly enjoyed this book. Making the first book free in a series is a smart tactic in the age of Kindle. I don't even mind in this case since it is such a great story, so I am happy I can support this author!

I had passed over getting this book months ago, only to come across it again as a recommendation for me to read. I reluctantly decided to go ahead and get it. After doing so, I'm glad I did. I just finished all three books in the series and can actually say that I really liked them. The story has the same concept as Beauty & The Beast, but there are so many differences that it made the story unique. I would definitely recommend it!

The writer gives the reader a different prospective on a life of a young girl fighting to survive a world that is beyond harsh. Binella is the youngest of three girls, her only goal in life is to find food for the family on a daily basis and avoid the one thing that stands between her and that food...the BEAST.

This is an excellently crafted adult retelling of the Beauty and the Beast myth. The author's style is smooth and enticing, offering just enough mystery to invite, and enough explanation to keep readers intrigued. The subplot involving the Sisterhood is artfully crafted. I can hardly wait to read the next installment.
