My first exposure to this book was through Lisa’s awesome review. For the most part, it lived up to the hype and many five star ratings like Lisa’s. Yet, there were times where the book fell into romance novel pitfalls that stopped me from giving it the same.

First off, it definitely deserved all the stars for an emotional journey that will leave you breathless. At times, the book reminded me of my absolute favorite romance novel ever that I read ages ago (and just now realized I hadn’t starred! XD), Lynn Kurland’s This Is All I Ask. The depths of romantic love and emotional pain between Graeme and Eveline reminded me much of that other work; Maya Banks brought their relationship to life with beautiful detail and a well of sentiment that made me want to just dive in again. This is a novel that will leave you crying and smiling through your tears in equal measure.

There were times where the Eveline came across as too perfect: beautiful, patient, giving, self-sacrificing, brave…. You name the attribute; she had it. At times, it stretched the bounds of believability. The way the Montgomery clam women also ganged up on her were also a bit too high school clique-ish. Nora’s chores stuff and Kierstan’s constant name-calling and confrontations made me roll my eyes more than once.

Yet, at the end of the day, this is a romance novel. In the emotions department, it excels as such. It’s a beautiful ride of love and drama that any lover of the genre will enjoy. Just be prepared for some of the pitfalls that any reader of romance novels probably know about already anyway.

This book was well written and had twists and turns that you never see coming. The highland theme has been done numerous times but this book incorporates a couple of new twists. I loved the book and have even reread it several times.

Bought this after reading MB's McCabe trilogy. Couldn't stop reading it, and looking forward to the next instalment. Only wish that the books were produced each week, rather than a matter of months apart.
Good story line, and would recommend to anyone keen to laugh, cry and enjoy a historical romance.

This book was such a page turner! Damsel in distress, revenge, love, everything you could ever want in a romance novel! I don't usually like the Scottish themed romances (I'm more into the London Society books) but this book has made my top 3 list!!! It also had me in tears a few times!..and I rarely cry over a romance novel! LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!!!

Eveline had a accident and becomes deaf. Then the king orders her and the enemy liars to marry. I won't ruin the rest of the book for you. But I would have everyone one I know read it. I hope you decide to read it.

Recently I read several truly great romance novels and this was the first one. The female lead is wonderfully strong but quite naive and makes the most of her situation by trying to fit in. Her "disability" is turned into an"ability" that works to her benefit. Looking forward to the next book.

This is the first historical romance that I've read and I was pleasantly surprised. I felt connected with the main characters and look forward to reading others of this genre. I will definitely be checking out others by maya banks in the future.

I love this book... Can never tired of reading it over and over. So vivid that I can see it playing in my head. I felt every tear and joy from all the characters... From the hero and the heroine to the servants. Wonderful book!!!

Lovely story. I liked Evelines fierceness and Graemes softness towards her. I wish her hearing had come back and also there was more about her pregnancy and how Graeme took care of her. Overall a sweet story.

I love this book. I am very disappointed that the 3rd book does not come out until 2015, but this book ended well and I am not left hanging here waiting. This series is as good as her other Scot series full of love and adventure. I cried at the end

Loved this book as I pretty much love anything that Maya Banks writes. The characters were compelling and well developed. I could not stop reading this book once I started. I can hardly wait for the next book in this series. Great escape from the everyday grind of life.

Great story with lots of action, romance and mystery. Loved both the hero and heroine who didn't spend half the story trying to figure out how they felt! Definitely left me wandering what is going to happen next. I really enjoy Maya Banks style. She has a way of bringing lively visuals to her words!

I have really enjoyed these books by Maya Banks! They are like real love stories. THe girls don't look perfect or aren't perfect in every way. It just makes you feel more in touch with the characters! They are great reads!

This was okay, and basically what I had expected. This was my first Maya Banks novel, and what I would consider a generic historical Scottish romance. It is certainly repetitive, and not particularly unique, but I did find myself becoming emotionally involved with the heroine's plight, which says something for the author. I may have even teared up a few times. One irritation i want to share is about the title. I'm not exactly sure how the title describes the book, as the story isn't really about one party seducing the other, but more of a gradual romance. Not sure if I will read more from Maya Banks.

I loved this book. It moved along really nice and the characters grew with it. I felt that this book did not keep going on about the same thing over and over. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a good historical romance.

I thoroughly love this author. I especially have enjoyed her Scottish books. There is a lot of spice, great story line, romance and action. I love how strong the women characters are in her books and how they face some sort of adversity and rise above it.
