I had heard many good things about this book from a number of people and my church in Scottsdale, AZ used to include these in their services. What a blessing. God, help our hearts to be turned toward you! Soli Deo Gloria

I ordered the leather-bound version with the hope of following the plan found at http://www.joethorn.net/valley/ and couldn't be happier. While these devotions and prayers do not replace daily prayer, I found myself reading them like reading a love letter during prayer. Again, not a replacement for God's Word (especially praying the Psalms), but a great way to build discipline to prayer life and learn the "language" of prayer. Highly recommended.

Valley of Vision is a wonderful book, and every Christian can benefit from these prayers. It has been thoroughly reviewed elsewhere, so I will leave the contents at that.

This copy is good, but not perfect. The printing, pages, and binding are wonderful. My only complaint is that it is not true leather binding, but bonded leather, which is a mixture of leather dust and glue. It feels like real leather, but generally tends to be less durable. That said, I am quite pleased with the volume, and when (as I hope) I wear out the cover with time, it can be rebound if necessary, as the remainder of the volume is the best quality.

Highly recommended.

Wonderful prayers and devotions from the hearts of Purtian believers. I find that they can say in words what I am feeling & what I am dealing with in my spiritual walk. They are very transparent which helps me tremendously.

Love it. Every entry is beautifully written and God-centered. I scarcely can get through one without slowing down, underlining, and re-reading it half a dozen times or so. Praise God for this volume and the people He appointed to write, edit, and/or collect these selections. #GodIsGood #JesusIsLord

How encouraging and inspiring to peer into the minds of our
believing Puritan forefathers knowing even now they are in
the Presence of our merciful Lord. These are not only
beautiful meditations and prayers but elegant language which
reveals how much better educated they were than we are!

These prayers are very simple, humble, Biblical, and encapsulations of scripture. What great insight into the mind and faith of those who wrote them and what an inspiration to us today. One of the beautiful aspects of Christianity is how believers of all nations and time are brought together in the family of God.

Great devotional book. I try to read this everyday. I love how the puritans thought through and prayed to God. The example they set in their prayers and writings are timeless and helpful for the church today.

No doubt the prayers are superior to the toffy type prayers these days. But God hears both! I found the prayers helpful.
See Pastor Joe Thorns reading guide online. I printed it out and follow it.
As for the book, very very handy. Glory belongs to God ...This book is a mirror.

Very well put together book full of puritan prayers. The way that the content is laid out makes it very easy to find a passage that applies to what you need then and there. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for ways to deepen their prayer life.

Each page is a separate poem. The Title of Contents is complete and organized by topic. I keep a copy near my desk to use for reference or inspiration. Modern writers seldom match the depth and texture of the sentiments that emanate from this excellent collection.

What a great way to start my daily devotional time, reading one of these soul stirring prayers by the Puritans who had a heart for the Lord Jesus! I've given several for gifts, always in the leather, because as my friend who gave me mine said, "You'll want to keep this forever."

This is a must have devotional book for any Christian. The writers had a heart for God, a reverence for holiness, a right understanding of man, a desire to know Christ, and a clear knowledge of the gospel. This book will not only cause your heart to overflow with a love for God, but will deepen your prayer life as well. The words are at times poetic, and at times even musical to the ears, this books will be well served read out loud during family devotions. There is a reason this book is a classic, so pick up a copy today and begin your trek into the Valley of Vision, your Christian walk will never be the same.

I cannot begin to express the worth of this outstanding book of prayers! In addition to the refreshing honesty of the Puritan Prayers, the poetic voice is incredibly moving. This is such an excellent source of comfort and peace!

The Valley of Vision is a collection of Puritan prayers. It has greatly enhanced and livened my personal prayer life. There are few men these days who pray with this kind of intensity, clarity and reality. Though they are centuries old, I have found every one of these prayers to be relevant to the sins, struggles, and adversity that I or any 21st century person may face. I strongly recommend this as a very appropriate gift for any Christian.

Other than the Bible, this is my favorite book.
The size is perfect, the construction is amazing, and the typography is beautiful.
The prayers are short, but incredibly deep. You can spend a whole week on just one, thinking on it & praying it. They are so rich in the true gospel of Jesus Christ!
Grace upon grace.

Out side the Bible this is the most influential book on my spiritual life. The theology of the prayers written here are life changing. I pray them daily. God has used this book as a tool to overcome the many sins in my life. I thank God for preserveing these prayers to bless the generations that have followed.

I bought this book after hearing it recommended from several different sources, theologians, pastors and laypeople alike. It is a short work and it is written in King James style English language but I'm my opinion it adds to its beauty. The book is basically a collection of prayers and you can find one for just about any subject matter. They are wonderful for contemplating and meditating on either before or after reading Scripture. I have found great joy in reading one or two with my wife each night at bedtime. Spend the extra couple of bucks and get the leather bound version because this is something that you will want to keep with your Bible for the rest of your life! I simply cannot recommend it enough, so stop reading this review and buy it already! May the Lord bless you and yours through this lovely work for years to come.

Incredible prayers...so much deeper spiritually that I, or others in this day and age, typically pray. The leather-bound edition is very nice. I received it as a gift...and in turn, bought it for three others as a gift.

Poetry, scripture, and prayer collide in the timeless words contained in each stanza lifted to God our Creator. Messages of hope extend from the pages, words written long ago yet still relevant in our time. I really enjoy that on each page there is a prayer; they are titled and grouped in the table of contents for quick use. What I don't like is that there is no index to pinpoint a certain word or thought I might want to explore further. I have no doubt this is a five star, needed-on-every-shelf volume.

These historical puritan prayers are meant to jog the Christian's prayer life. I use the book daily to help me enter into a more sincere dependence on Jesus through prayer. The idea is that as you read one of the scripted prayers (beautiful poetry in their own right), your own thoughts would tangent to the prayers that are on your heart. In this manner, I will read the same prayer several days in a row before moving on. The famous prayers in this book helped fuel the "modern missionary movement," so if you know much about the historical context, then the prayers are just that much sweeter. I was looking for a book to help jog my personal prayer life, and I found what I believe will be a resource to that end for the rest of my life.

"Valley of Vision" is full of wonderful, Scriptural prayers that provide a springboard into my own personal prayers. They help put me in a heavenly state of mind as I approach the throne of grace. It's a must-have for any Christ-follower who's serious about their prayer life or desires to be serious about their prayer life.

This book was amazing! The Puritans had a real grasp of the worship of God in spirit and truth. They understood clearly the vast separation between Holy God and depraved sinners. They appreciated the love that God extends to reconcile us through His Son Jesus Christ. Study of this book will teach people how to revive the lost art of deep prayer and communion with God.

This is my husbands nightly reading. He is always taken by their great English and their honest striving to be more like God. It puts him to shame many times but, also encourages him to strive to be more Godly as well.

What strong heartfelt prayers from our ancestors. What a blessing! Each one touches you more than the last one; it is indeed a revelation on how intimate the Puritans were with the Lord. What an education in prayers and prayer life!

This collection of prayers are deeply theological and can be a great guide to understand the right attitude of prayer in the life of a young believer or the seasoned veteran of the faith. I would recommend this to everyone who wants to seek the throne of God with meaning and passion.
