Content wise...I found the book well researched but very dry. Research material like this is difficult to use on the Kindle. I prefer to flip thru pages reading what interests me...going back and forth.

I would have preferred a less scholarly treatment of the medial effects of cannabis. It was too hard to plow thru to get the facts and summaries that I wanted.

I purchased this book because there are few publications that aren't just all anti- or pro- pot. As a former drug counselor and current prevention specialist, it's very obvious that the culture of the drug has been changing, and will likely continue to do so. Unfortunately, it takes a lot of sifting to find credible resources on the internet. I found less use for some of the articles about legalization, etc, as I had purchased this more as a collective resource about the substance and physiological and psychological components relating to use.

The book consists of a number of contributing authors, which is valuable in some ways, but I rated three stars since it wasn't focused as much in the areas I was looking for to support the work I do.

this book is a very complete compendium of work by a variety of authors and well edited.
As one who is nearly 30 years in recovery from a booze addiction, the recently influx of young people in a 12 step program has forced me to truly re-think seeing cannabis even in the same light as booze, nicotine or caffeine.
The issue related to cannabis is not the substance and it's use, it is the legal status of the plant. In terms of disinformation perpetrated on society I have been guilty of disseminating the NIDA/NIH/DEA line of thinking. For that i have been humbled because of books like this and programs such as "Weed II" by Dr Sanjay Gupta who detailed the lives of parents of children with severe seizure disorders that respond to cannabidiol without the side effects of seriously detrimental compound pharmaceuticals.

I believe there is a place for cannabis, hemp in our society for both medicine, and yes recreation.
If I have a friend with MS or Alzheimers, cancer or other ailment, i am more inclined to recommend cannabis over an addictive compound like oxycontin.

Guess it just wasn't in my interest field. Altho it did deter me from growing my own weed. Didn't work for my taste. It was full of a lot of information on how it affects the brain and how to grow it.

Proper preperation prevents poor performance. Ive been fighting a court case for OWI marijuana for over a year now and my curiousity and dedication towards preventing myself of being wrongfully convicted for a criminal offense that could haunt my life and provide the government to allow legal discrimination against me for a long time, led me to discover this book. I was actually looking for an engineering book and stumbled across this. Everything happens for a reason.

The book is extremely well put together by an M.D., who puts the history of cannibis on front page where it needs to be. It deliveres more empowering of a message than just weed facts and stoner info. Im a 29 year old male mixed with native black and german...i dont read books often more magazines BUT I wish more people were able to understand the importance of cannibas to our society. Not only for medical but for our ecological system. Julie Holland puts this all into perspective within the first 5 pages.

I DARE ANYONE, USERS OF POT, ANTI-POT, AND THE UN-INFORMED TO READ THE FIRST 20 PAGES OF THIS BOOK AND I GUARANTY YOU WILL BE INTRIGUED AND ASTONISHED.

HOW THE GOVERNMENT PORTRAYS AND USES THIS DRUG PROHIBITION TO THEIR ADVANTAGE its insane!

IM A MECHANIC SEEKING TO BECOME AN ENGINEER, WE COULD LITERALLY END OUR FOREIGN DEPENDENCY ON OIL AND REFORM BACK TO THE NATURAL OIL OF HEMP AND SOLVE THIS REDICULOUS ISSUE SINGLE HANDLY NOT TO MENTION WHAT OTHER PROBLEMS IT COULD SOLVE. IN MY MIND IT IS A MIRACLE PLANT AND JULIE HOLLAND EXPLAINS THIS PLANT LIKE NO OTHER.

KNOWLEDGE IS POWER...AND THIS BOOK IS KNOWLEDGE!!!

I returned it. The book is infused with personal political opinions of the "editor", which do nothing to help the reader learn about the topic. I was expecting an unbiased examination of cannabis and the role it may play in the future. All I got was a bunch of left-wing drivel and Christian-bashing (which is all the rage now). If you want legalization and acceptance of hemp/cannabis, you have to appeal to a broader audience -- not insult them.

The Pot Book

By Julie Holland, MD

Whatever your feelings about marijuana are, it is clear that times are changing and we need the best objective information possible. This book deals with the history of pot and all the safeguards one should know when using it, but it's loaded, no pun intended, with interviews with many experts in many fields. What is abundantly clear is the need to consider the many people who actually need medical marijuana. I also found it useful to clear up the many myths around marijuana use. Legalization is inevitable, our prison systems are crowded with nonviolent offenders, and many other countries have taken the lead and the results show this to be a positive step.
