you will have a better understand of just how dangerous being involved with the sea is. You will also understand just how the Men (and now Women) of the Coast Guard do their work in all kinds of weather. Day in, day out, they are people who live so that others may also live another day to battle the sea.

Having served in the USCG and was a qualified coxswain I understand their commitment to performing their duty. When all was said and done with my 16 years with them (7 years air force) it wasn't the ones I helped rescue but the one I could not. I still see his face. Book was well written and moved along and showed the human side of boat crews.

I enjoyed most of the book but the later chapters failed to keep my interest. There were a few times where I wasn't sure which ship we were reading about as the story involved a few. Maybe my head just wasn't in it as others seemed to enjoy the book.

I liked the urgency and presence of the real world and the times in this history. Reminded me of "the serpent's coil" by Farley Mowat. I don't know how the proud tradition of the Coast Guard can survive since it has been co-opted by Homeland Security as a marine police force.

Amazing story that recounts the true heroism of the rescue Coast Guard in that era of American maritime history. It is also truly mind-boggoling how the Maritime industry was so loosely supervised that the Industry basically controlled the manufacturing as well as the safety boards that oversaw the Industry. .

The story and film was extremely accurate and believable. I enjoyed everything about the movie and it followed the actual event to be tee. Younger viewers use to over the top special effects, I am sure it is just okay

awesome story of bravery, read it before the movie because the movie is made for Hollywood with relationships and "the woman left behind" being more of a focus than the amazing accomplishments of the Coast Guard

Great book, magnificent story! The story captures your attention and you are able to get a good idea of the challenges the crew faced and the environment our sailors and merchant marines faced on small boats back then.

This is a very detailed & well written account of an amazing rescue by the Coast Guard of two tankers caught in a major storm in 1952 near the coast of Massachusetts. The author does a great job describing the perilous situation the rescuers must face in their attempts to save the seamen stranded on the damaged vessels
