This book is awesome. I bought it, because at this time I am attending Bible classes, so I thought this book will enrich my knowledge about catholicism.
I also bought this book as agift to my friend, who liked it very, very much.

Most readers looking at this book are likely familiar with Philip Yancey's light, down to earth, personal and journalistic style of writing. This makes the book an easy read and for someone wanting an introduction or as Yancey himself shows 'demythifying' of his bible school Jesus gestalts. Yancey remains clearly a committed Christian in his writings and thus the book reframes Jesus into our modern scholarly understanding whilst retaining core beliefs and his faith.

It blends a good balance of factual, historical information to make it intellectually appealing while maintaining a constant line of introspect in its presentation. It was well described by its title! I will read it again at a latter time with newly gained perspective.

Very insightful in dealing with many of the same thoughts, doubts and questions I had growing up and still have. It gave a new perspective on many things about God coming down to earth to be with us as one of us. Thank you Jesus.

Pillip Yancy did an awesome job of protraying the human side of Jesus. He did come to earth to experience our life here and Philip did a really good job of pointing that aspect of his life without diminishing His holiness at all. He made Jesus more real for me through thiis book.

I can not recommend this book highly enough! Yancey does an amazing job helping us see the historical, biblical Jesus and as a result, love and respect him more. My favorite part is his teaching through the sermon on the mount and the beatitudes and how he helps explain the depth of Jesus teaching and helps the reader have a fuller understanding of their depth and meaning.

This book has revolutionised the way I view Jesus! It will challenge the way you think about Hom and many of your preconceptions will be blown out of the water. In their place will stand a real, tangible saviour who knows your struggles!

This book definitely made me see Jesus in a whole different light. God came to earth in the form of Jesus and experienced everything that we as humans experience. No longer can we say that no one understands, for through Philip Yancey's words about Christ, we see Christ's teachings as very personal. If you have ever wondered about Christ, just wanted to learn more or are already a committed Christ believer, I believe this book will enlighten you.

Classic Yancy. He starts building a foundation and by the end he has you wishing there was more book. Analogies are outstanding and the insight into possible reasons for Jesus' actions are intriguing. This is the third book I have read by Phillip Yancy, and I really enjoy his expanded view he gives on a subject. I read this book after his title "What so amazing about Grace". I think Yancy has a deep understanding about the things of God. I would recommend this book to anyone. I also think it would be a great group study source.

Phillip Yancey gives some great insight into the life of Jesus, and a very good examination of the Sermon on the Mount. I got some great new understanding from his insights and highly recommend this book.

The author takes many of the passages in the Bible and puts them in terms that are easier to understand. This makes for interesting reading. I would recommend this book for people who are looking for a better and interesting understanding of the Bible.

Excellent insights. Philip Yancey at his best. I now see Jesus really does understand everything that we go through here on earth because he himself had experienced so much. Born and raised in poverty, fleeing with his family from His homeland, a refugee in a strange land, and so much more. Get to know the Jesus you never knew.

The author does a wonderful job of sheathing light on many aspects of the Gospels that have been lost in our modern age by giving personal examples and exploring related fields of interest to describe the recorded phenomena. Unfortunately, the author does NOT CITE HIS SOURCES!!! I would still recommend this to anyone trying to better understand who Jesus was and stood for or anyone interested learning about the less reported aspects of Christianity.

Significant work. Yancy is one of the best current Christian authors. His views and arguments always exceed teachings I hear in church and in the other authors and thought leaders I follow. He always challenges my perceptions, makes me think and expands faith walk.

I highly recommend this book for anyone wanting to take a close look at their view of Jesus. It's so easy to apply our own cultural norms and ideas to him, but this book helps to see Jesus for who he really is.

This book helped me to become reunited with Jesus. The Jesus he never knew was the one I always did and disliked the fact that so many others had disguised, hidden or forgotten that which He is. That is what turned me away from Christianity. I actually began walking my alternate spiritual path in Hyde Park within a mile from where he began the classes that laid the framework for this book at the same time.
