This book is outstanding. Most of us feel disappointment with our Creator from time to time, but Phillip Yancey has an unique way of putting that into prospective and allowing the reader to move forward with understanding.

I would recommend this book to someone wondering why God doesn't answer their prayers, when they think he should. It does have a section on trying to view the world as God which is a bit awkward. This is the second Yancey book I have read, I think I will continue to read more of his work.

This book takes often-asked questions head on. It deals heavily and honestly with human suffering and God's apparent unconcern about it. Yancey takes our, "Where is God when it hurts?" questions and turns them inside out, giving us the opportunity to view human history from God's perspective. Like Job, we are humbled by this new view of God and His providence.

This book challenges the believers of Christianity as to what is one's faith? Yancey writes in a probing, manner as to what questions we personally have in terms of our relationship with God. And he utilize everyday people to demonstrate these disappointments and victories.

I've appreciated the helicopter view on seeing God's changes in his parenthood approach to us. The author leads me to a brand new angle on human and God's relationship that I've never aware of. Like the frank and honest approach of not face up to the actual disappointment that even the most sincere Christian might face everyday.

Things that I believe all who have a relationship with God ask themselves at some point are eloquently stated and addressed in this work. I enjoyed reading and pondering right along with the author as I read. I enjoyed the style of writing and will pursue other works from Mr. Yancey.

Yancey's insight into "The Wager" was, without question, one of the most powerful things I've ever read. HIs portrayal of Job's plight from "God's Perspective" instead of the normal human viewpoint was life-changing. Either we totally trust God or we don't...we never know what may be riding on our decision! Even if you're not struggling with these three questions right now, this is a book you need to read!

...New here . Yancy 's theology is solid but it doesn't offer any answers that anyone who has studied the Bible or even just gone to church has already hurt a thousand times . I bought the book thinking I might get some real answers and said I got the straight run of the mill Christian answers to complicated problems . All Cianci did was frame the answers with more theology and more scriptural reading . If you're looking for real answers you won't find them in this book

Philip Yancy is one of my favorite christian writers. He has some of the same doubts and questions that I have about God. In this book he tries to share his thoughts and how he deals with these questions. I find Philip Yancy's books honest and easy to understand.

Philip Yancey has bravely waded in to a tough subject. ANd he is to be commended for raising the issue and being willing to face it and talk about it. Does he help the reader to move on? I think so. One thing I remember that he said that helped me was, "The alternative to Disappointment with God appears to be disappointment without God," or something to that affect. A simple but profound truth that all of us do well to remember. On the other hand, I think the book yet disappoints as it climaxes in the telling of a story of a person who had overcome great difficulties and temptation to disappointment with God in his life. After spending some time telling the story of the author's meetings and interviews with this person over time, the advice that this person gives as the secret to his success is disappointing. The person says that he has overcome disappointment with God by learning to separate life (in the sense of the sum total of the events in a person's life) from his relationship with God, or something to that affect. In other words, he doesn't confuse what happens to him in life with God's actual dealings with him in any way. Even the author admits that he isn't sure about that advice. I must admit, that advice didn't help me at all. If God is God, I think we all agree that nothing happens apart from his allowing it. So I don't even see how we can find that dichotomy between "real life" and God. Nevertheless, it was a thoughtful book with alot of helpful things in it. If you're looking for a silver bullet kind of answer though, you may be disappointed.

This book is honest, biblical, and incredibly helpful for all readers. This book lets Christians and non Christians alike know they are not alone in their struggles and recounts the Old Testament in a way that makes sense for all audiences. I will strongly recommend this book.

Phillip Yancey is one of my favorite Christian authors. Reading this book makes you face your confusion and frustrations with your spiritual walk with such raw honesty, you know you can drop the mask when you read Mr. Yancey.
