I bought this for my daughter for her 10th birthday, and she couldn't put it down. She probably read it at least four times since then. It opened up the door for a lot of constructive conversation between her and I, and in a way that didn't make her feel embarrassed or shy.

Purchased for my 10 year old after I bought Girling Up by Mayim B, which is a wonderful book and parts of it she is ready for, but parts of it are WAY too advanced. This is a much more age appropriate fit. We've enjoyed all of the American Girl books so far, we own 7.

My daughter loves reading this book and having mommy/daughter discussions during. Great book for little girls who aren't staying so little. I bought for my 8 year old daughter and she reads it all the time. Now tells me the book suggest things like new toothbrush every few months so it is time to replace hers. Great way to discuss the changes to their bodies.

This is a wonderful informative book for a young girl. I bought this for my granddaughter, and read it before giving it to her, and I was so amazed with how much good information was in there. I wished there was something like this when I was her age. I'll be purchasing the next book for her as well. This book talked about billing, pimples, the monthly visit, your hygiene, as well as peer pressure. I definitely recommend this book for all young girl's to read.

My 7 year old daughter is fascinated by this book! I thought it would be a great way for her "learn" about her body and changes that come with-along with all the funny conversations we already have. So far so good! She giggles every now and then but it really is great facts every young girl should know. Plus, she has since wanted to exercise..drink more water, and scolds me for "picking" at my face lol.

A friendly and thorough approach to helping young persons to know how to care for oneself. I've been reading this with my children and it hits some care bits that I would have forgotten to address if I had tackled the subject on my own. I recommend this as a guide that you and your small person can go back to and refer to on a regular basis in order for her to develop and maintain some good and necessary habits to being healthy.

I bought this book years ago when my own daughter was young, and loved the content, and she was able to read through the book at her own pace and timing, whenever she wanted. I just bought this book again for a friend who is a single dad, for his 8 year old daughter who recently lost her mom. Reading through the content today, I had not realized how many references there are to asking “your mom”. Did the authors really never imagine a scenario where someone would buy this book for a young girl who has lost their mother? I know the content and approach is great, but now feel like I can’t give this book to her. Disappointed.

My third and youngest daughter is currently reading this, and my older daughters read it. I think it's a wonderful introduction for young girls. The book and illustrations are very well done. I read it along with my kids, and then we talk about it.

My daughter loves this book. She got it when she was 8, and it has helped her with her many questions. I don't feel like it goes too in depth with anything, and it helped her not be embarrassed to talk to me about any of her questions. I recommended it to other of my daughter's friend's parents as well. We like to be open an honest with her and not hide facts, so this is an excellent book to do just that.

Just got this for my seven-year-old daughter, who is just beginning to show the very first few signs of puberty, in this book it's exactly what we needed. I love that it shows how to do proper hygiene in care of yourself and also how to expect the changes of puberty but in a very gentle and appropriate manner. The content is really easy to understand it and I just for her age and we can take it as we go as she grows. Also love that it's by American girls which we already love.

I feel like this book is age appropriate. We aren't prudes in this house or afraid of our kids learning too much before they're ready. It helps my 8 year old understand her emotional changes and it helps reinforce me telling her everything is ok. Sometimes kids just need to hear it from someone else to believe it. There's a really annoying typo in there that drives me crazy though. At one point it should day 'there are' and it says 'there is'. Silly but I mean come on American Girl, you pay people to catch this crap.

Attention all parents of girls who are becoming little ladies. This book is a MUST HAVE, a BIBLE for growing ladies. My daughter is super shy and has a lot of questions about becoming a lady and I heard about this book through a mutual friend. I gave it to my daughter and she took it upstairs to her room for a good read. She loved the book and shared some pointers with me. She thanked me for such a good read and told me it had all the information she wanted to know! You must get this for your pre-teen, you will not go wrong!

Pretty straight forward, bought for 7 year old, read it first. I highlighted and marked specific things to talk about together. Has the medical information I was looking for, so far nothing left out. Will update.

I have two daughters, and with the oldest recently turning 10 years-old, she is beginning to experience a lot of the changes we all know are bound to happen. Given the fact that I divorced their mother several years ago, and despite being re-married to a woman who is a great support system for the girls, I have largely raised my girls from the perspective of their father, their friend, their sports coach, as well as playing the role of a mom in many ways.
I have an incredible relationship with my daughters, and we talk about everything--because of their surroundings resulting from the divorce, they've been forced to grow up quickly like many children today. I do my best on a daily basis to prepare them and to treat them with dignity, respect, care, love, and guidance. With that said, I don't have all of the answers, and while I can research things and explain them from an outsider's perspective, this book is a fantastic resource for several reasons:
1.) The content - it covers a lot in a small package, topics ranging from changing bodies to eating habits, exercise, and hygiene guidance.
2.) The ease of presentation - my daughter ADORES the way the book is presented. She feels very comfortable laying in bed at bedtime and reading a section or two with me, and having comfortable dialog about often-times uncomfortable content for a 10yo.
3.) The portrayal of not being alone - One of my favorite components of this book, is that through the verbiage and imagery, it's clear that no girl is unique in encountering these issues, but they ARE very unique in when, what, and how... it doesn't make my girl feel weird about the content.
I read voraciously and review from time to time, but I really do insist that parents scoop this one up... it's a very valuable buy.

Great for younger girls. Easy for them to read and follow on their own as well as discuss together. I bought one for my daughter and loved it, so I have also gotten another for a friend and her daughter. I like that they have split the book into 2 parts.

My 8 yo daughter started asking some questions and is an avid reader, so I chose to give this to her. We talked about it a bit, but she wanted to read some first before talking more in-depth. She *LOVES* this book and it has really helped prepare her for things that are to come. We will definitely be purchasing the follow-up book when she gets a bit older!

My daughter and I really enjoyed this book. It was easy to understand to her and if she had questions, the book had the answers that I couldn't quite explain. I recommend this book to any parent and child in those confusing stages! It was well worth the price!

Thus books was referred to us by our pediatrician. My daughter is 12 and as a single father some of life’s lessons about her body are uncomfortable for her to hear from me. She read the book in one night and loved it.

Ordered this for my daughter so that she was comfortable with talking with me about getting older and learning about her body. I didn't want her to be shocked when she got into that health class in school. I felt it was better for me to talk with her first.

My 8 year old has been asking so many questions.. so I bought this for her. After I read it, I gave it to her. She finished it within a day! Loved how detailed it is without too much "adult" stuff. I also bought the second one but I don't feel like she's ready for that one just yet so we have it hidden in the closet. She still had some questions after reading it which was expected. But it definitely covered most of it.

I bought this because I bought the American Girl book "The Feelings Book" for my daughter when she was 7 and she loved it so very much (she keeps it up in her bunk bed with her at all times). This will be a present for her on her 9th birthday. It looks very straight forward and direct, which children need as kids are very literal. It goes over self care such as washing your face, cleaning your body (including armpits), a little on having your period, and that type of thing. I think it's very well-written and perfect for curious, developing children (especially kids who might be shy about speaking about it at first).
I make sure to give these types of books to my daughters to look through by themselves to begin with, then a few days later, ask to sit and read it with them. We read parts, some of my choosing and some of theirs. It makes it easy to open your child up to discussing difficult topics, and letting them look through the book in private allows them to get used to the book's contents without feeling put on the spot. I think it eases embarrassment and discomfort, if there is any on the topic(s).
Remember to listen to your child, and in sensitive situations like this, don't dominate with your knowledge or influence. Listen, and ask, "What do you think?" And before you say anything mom-ish or dad-ish, say, "Would you like advice?" or "Would you like to hear my opinion?" If they say no, hang onto that thought and bring it up again later (the next day, etc). The goal is to make your child comfortable with themselves, and with being able to come to you with questions about their developing lives and bodies, and if they think you'll talk all over them, they won't do it. So far, this is working well for me and my kids, and they feel very comfortable asking questions and talking about puberty with me and my husband/their dad.

Got this for my Grandaughter, she has read it cover to cover and it's been good information for her and led to some very conversations between her and her parents as well as with me. I'd recommend this for Pre-teen girls!
