The emotions and attitudes felt right. There is a lot of killing in this book but the characters don't spend all day over-analyzing their actions, which feels right for the time. I like the fact that the couple spends so much of the first part of the book apart, giving her a chance to prove her worth as the mistress of the manor.

This story sucked you in from beginning to end. Powerful and fulfilling. One of the better fiction books I have read of that time frame of knights and ladies of the 12th century. A strong heroine brightened the story line. Could have ended the story with another chapter but still very fine reading.
Maiden to the Dragon #1 (Alpha Dragon Shifter Romance) :: MacFarland's Lass (Scottish Lasses Book 1) :: The Dark Knight's Captive Bride :: Highlander's Castle (Highlander Heat Book 1) :: The Beauty Bride (The Jewels of Kinfairlie Book 1)

I enjoyed the taming of the shrew-like plotline. The characters were well-developed and the author included a lot of historical context. I enjoyed the medieval depictions of every day family life, master and serf relationships as well as rules of inheritance. The author did her medieval research and this makes the book standout compared to other similar novels.

I enjoyed this the first of the seasons series, very much. The attention to plausible detail and the human side of the story is great.
Life was hard back then and this story does nothing to avoid all the conniving and struggle for power and position.
Off to buy the series now.

I love stories about this era. The historisity was wonderful! I'm glad the kindle has a dictionary and the ability to look up words on google, I LEARNED A LOT! Can't wait to read the next in the series.

The first Denise Domning book I read was free but so good I went looking for more of her work. I really enjoyed this and have read it more than once since purchasing it. If you enjoy period romances you can't beat this.

After being ripped from a convent, Rowena is forced to marry a Lord. Her mother loathes her, her father has no care for her but unlike some of the heroines in these types of novels, Rowena decides early on to be the best wife she can possibly be. She does her best to honor and serve Lord Rannulf. She proves to be smart, well read, learned and witty. Rannulf on the other hand resists falling for Rowena. He has been burned by women before. He has burried two wifes already. He is afraid of love and fights it every step of the way.
Somehow, I still haven't figured out how, I have read these novels out of sequence. Which has really been kind of a cool thing. I love this series. The way the author presents the details, you can actually smell and feel the enviornment. She does a great job.

Thoroughly enjoyed the story characters and time period, and the attention to facts about life at that time. Lesser men and women would never have survived. Great writing style, couldn't put it down.

I love historical fiction. These days it's quite a trend, so I often download "historical" freebies that I immediately delete from my account because they are actually botched Cinderella tales.
I've been surprised, instead, by the accuracy of the historical research provided for this book. The author describes wonderfully the environment and the life of a medieval country hall, so vividly that you can see it before your eyes.
Her style reminds me of Ariana Franklin (a.k.a. Diana Norman), one of my favourite writers of all times - and she was an historian...
Please, don't miss this small jewel of a book, and I think many of you will end - as I did - downloading the other four book in this series. Enjoy.

I enjoyed reading Winter's Heat. I liked the fast pace and the interaction between the characters.
The author does a nice job. I especially liked the interaction with Rannulf's brothers.

This is a good one with knights and daring damsels. What more could you ask for intrigue, wounded wary men and daring women who dare to love them. Women bold enough to buck the gender role standards and guys would can respect them. You will enjoy this series.

This novel deserves the award it won. I read winters heat last and the others inspired the purchase of this the first one.
All the books -stand alone or serial- are very good and I can recommend them.
