It is truly scary when one thinks of the relative intelligence of the audience this author attracts with trash like this. (Five stars? What planet do you live on and do they have books?) This effort firmly cements Mary Higgins Clark's place with the other sellout authors who indeed have talent but now rely on their minions of mindless fans who buy anything with their name on the cover, (i. e. See James Patterson, Dean Koontz, etc.) The dialogue is forced, juvenile and unrealistic and the premise assinine, (who the hell would climb a tree to hide $70 million in diamonds? And then the person who first discovers them, does the same damn thing. Haven't these rednecks heard of safety deposit boxes?) I'm sorry, but reading a book is not like watching TV where you can put your brain on autopilot. It requires cognitive processes so the fact that this book is considered a light, airy, holiday read doesn't excuse the author from putting this drivel out, (especially for sale). If my brain is engaged enough to be reading it also needs to be challenged to some degree. Clark fails miserably on that level (among many others). Word to the wise, avoid this manure like the clap, unless you have a habit of flushing your money down the toilet. I will never pick up another Clark novel.

I had been hopeful when I read the description of the plot of The Christmas Thief. It sounded like a fun read to pass the time. Even the characters sounded interesting at least at the beginning of the novel. Something happened halfway through, I lost interest. The novel idea of hiding diamonds in a Christmas tree while at first intriguing became uninteresting as the plot developed. This novel needed a few other twists to keep me interested. It won't stop me from reading her other endeavors but it will make me more cautious.

Someone is out to steal the spruce tree bound for Rockefeller Center, which has a catch of diamonds hidden in the boughs. Crooks, stumble bums, fraud victims, and sleuths find merry mayhem in the written for the season Christmas mystery.
Not up to vintage Clark standards, which is a shame because it was a good plot that lack development.

This book wasn't great, but it was interesting throughout. I think that is a real plus. With a lot of books I have to read past page 85 to know if I'm going to be interested in the story; with this one I was intersted right away. I do agree that it could be more suspensful, but it did have some exciting moments. I liked that it was a short story as well, the plot moved along smoothly. I think this was a good book.

This was my first Mary Higgins Clark and Carol Higgins Clark book. I was pretty happy with it but I did think it could have been better. The plot was centered around the Christmas tree lighting at Rockefeller Center involving the Meehans, the Reillys, and some ex-convicts. Some parts were utterly unbeleivable. It was a different storyline that seemed pretty orginal but as I read below it's not their best work.

I am looking forward to reading their other books, seperately and jointly. It was a fast, fun read and hey, it occupied my time during Jury Duty!

I was disappointed in this book. MHC is my favorite author and I was excited to read a holiday book from her. While reading it, I often found my mind wandering and just simply lost interest in the story. May be next year's story will be better.

I really enjoyed the book and found it exciting and fast paced as all of there books are.

The timing is perfect stealing the Christmas Tree that is to be taken to NY and decorated at Rockefeller Center who would do such a thing? Well read the book and find out. A great gift for fans and a wonderful book for people who have not read there combined efforts a very worthwhile and enjoyable read.

I was very disappointed with this book. I was hoping for a good Christmas mystery, and it was far from it. I love Mary Higgins Clark's books, but this was poorly written and very boring. I wouldn't even borrow this one from the library.
