Rachel gets in to more hot water than a Scotsmans teabag, as the saying goes. I enjoy this series, its sort of horror lite compared to a lot of others that rely on ever increasing obscenities of pain and blood, and romance lite compared to chicklit porn. There's conversation and humor in Kim H's stuff that doesnt occur elsewhere.

I agree with other reviewers that find Rachels focus on Pierce annoying.

It's not because he avoids the standard talldarkhandsomebrooding hero persona for one appropriately smaller and tougher. (Historically the average guy was smaller than now--and who doesnt like MacGyver???hehe)but something is missing there. Nick was a sort of talldarkskinnyattractive but turned out a total slut. Humor? The feeling that there is something "off" about occupying someone else's bod, be they never so evil? (and frankly the previous owner was a bit pathetic but not truly desrving, JMHO of being killed off to provide a vessel...) Ethics? Trent is another "end justifies the means" character but there's a bigger push and pull and tension of wanting to be the all powerful but perceived as "good" in spite of his own self interest in his character. I dunno. Pierce just seems to be kinda small in character as well as physique.

The fact that you dont get Pierces backstory in a Kim H book but only in some other mixed author story collection is an irritant too.

The use of Alcatraz to imprison witches is inspired...salt, and water...and sharks LOL.

I'll still buy the next book, the whole witchy demonspawn bsns remains unresolved, and yea Al has a certain perverse attraction but i see him more as a wicked uncle than a possible mate (yikes) for Miss Witch. Too bad Glenn is hooked into Ivy, though good for Ivy...

Maybe Trent will finally get over his overwhelming psychosis about demons and their related descendants and Racial Purity....

This is a great series that should appeal to readers of Charlaine Harris and Faith Hunter. The series has great characters that have been well developed over the other books. This book does not disappoint with further development of the characters as well as lots of action.

Black Magic Sanction has been the best in the series so far. I loved that we got to see a bit more Al in this book and the whole Rachel and Pierce thing kind of sold me on them two being a sort of couple. I literally cried during one event but I wont say. I was not satisfied with the whole Nick situation, but I'm confident that Kim will deal with him in the future. Cant wait for the next installment in the Rachel Morgan series.

THE STORY FLOWS AND KEEPS YOUR INTEREST GOING. I LIKE THE WAY SHE SETS EACH SITUATION UP. I WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS NEXT. IT IS ALWAYS A SURPRISE ENDING. I LIKE IT SO MUCH THAT I ALMOST WANT TO READ THE LAST CHAPTER FIRST.

I really liked this installment of the series, but the pierce thing... The nate thing... Get a little annoying. And I have to agree with other reviewers that pixies seem to get over the deaths of their wives just a little too quickly for my taste. But overall very well written and very enjoyable. Kim Harrison has not lost her touch.
