BOOK READ ON ANOTHER PLATFORM
I'm always weirdly confused and stumped by readers who sometimes don't always see the understated beauty in Mia Sheridan's love stories. Admittedly, I feel like she's some kind of an animal spirit for me in the world of fiction because I simply "get" her writing and stories on such an elemental level. Not all of her stories are as big or encompassing as others, but ALL are so mesmerizingly unique and evocative that no other romance author writes quite like she does. In particular, I feel special and personal parts of her in some of what I consider to be her smaller stories, and this is one of them.
Without question, the opening chapters of this book when the H and h first meet and form a special bond in childhood is one of the most riveting, intimate openers I've read of hers or any other author of her ilk. What surprises me is that some readers were turned off by or didn't understand the separation of the H and h after childhood until they meet again and then also by the tie-in of the historical manuscript translation that takes up just a bit of the book. As though that lag made them lose interest in the momentum of the story. I wonder if the readers who didn't feel the connection of this parallel also might not have been fans of her other ingenious book MIDNIGHT LILY, of which I was also a huge fan. The manuscript translation in this book is not disconnected filler that relates to Jessie's job. It has immense impact on Jessie, her self-revelations that evolve in the course of the translation and characters in it, and ultimately her relationship with Callen.
The author's heroes are notably sensitive, painfully flawed, and yet so perfect at the same time. Such is the case for musical savant Callen plagued by an abusive childhood with horrific memories that cause self-esteem issues. The catharsis of his journey away from and back to JESSIE is so emotional and unpredictable. I love the way this author always takes us on what may seem to be a meandering journey of loss and love. Yet, always by end, she weaves all the pieces so artfully, beautifully, and intricately together that we don't even see the clarity of the path and its resolution coming. I loved this book conceptually in the same way that I loved MIDNIGHT LILY. The lost boy in Callen and the strength and steadfastness of determined Jessie. Two people who are fated to be together as a whole, even when it's not easy and the thorny path seems impossible.
"Sometimes the beginning of love is just a matter of proximity."
"Live fiercely and without regret."
"I'm here to save you."
"I'd asked him to help me, begged him to save me, and he'd sent me Jessie ... like a messenger bearing miracles. My gift. My fate. My love."
Mia Sheridan doesn't rely on flowery phrases and subterfuge to get her story across. More than words, she evokes deep meaning in her characters and their psyches and does it with a lyrical ease of simple truths about the human condition. Jessie and Callen will draw you in as children, whet your romantic appetite with their reunion in adulthood, beguile you with the romantic setting of Paris, break your heart with their human foibles, but ultimately bring you the honesty and peace of true love.

What drives my love for the worlds and characters Mia Sheridan crafts is the fact that there is a fairy tale feel to them…one that seems steadfast…determined to allow the heroes and the heroines to stand a fighting chance for their happily ever afters. Mind you, it is in no way easy, especially when years span where there is no interaction between the main characters, only the memories that they’ve held onto for that lengthy time frame. But regardless of the years lost…regardless of the heartbreak endured, it’s as if fate and Mia Sheridan herself refuse to allow the dreaming to end…refuse to allow a love rooted in so much good…a connection solidified when they were young to not have a second chance…another opportunity to revel in the shared feelings, to fight the inner demons that constantly torment them, and to let go of a past that has no place in the present and most definitely not in a hopeful future.
Callen Hayes and Jessica Creswell’s story begins when they are teenagers, finding refuge in one another despite Callen’s brokenness, but their bond is fractured for inexplicable reasons, forcing Jessica to find a way to move on…to exist without the other part other heart that left when Callen did and she hasn’t been able to get it back since.
But even though Princess Jessica couldn’t save Prince Callen or live their happily ever after due to the circumstances they found themselves in when they were young, destiny brings them back together and offers them an opportunity to not only make things right between them but also to fight against the mistakes, the secrets, and the lies that still surround them. And, just like the beast in Beauty and the Beast, Callen is a broody and broken hero - one who might seem too callous..too cynical…too aloof to win every reader over, but for the person who matters, Jessica, he’s everything she wants and needs, which means that their epic love story amidst the cultural and historical richness of the setting immerses readers into an angsty, emotional, and overwhelming tale of love, of loss, and of life’s beauty and pain.
I do have to admit that there were parts of More Than Words that felt a bit slow and made me feel slightly disconnected from the characters, but given the span of years that Jessica and Callen were apart and where their lives took them during that timeframe, I understand the importance of backstory and inner dialogue; I just would have liked it to seamlessly meld with what was occurring in the present.
More Than Words is the perfect title for Callen and Jessica’s story because that’s the kind of bond they formed when they were young - one that didn’t require words for them to understand one another and the significant impact they had on each other’s life, and then its meaning is brought into frame, once again, when they reconnect in France and find what they had to still be intact and as they work towards building something that will last forever, words aren’t necessarily needed because their hearts and souls seem to recognize one another and that’s not something that words can eloquently describe.

***4.5 ‘I Followed A Feather’ Stars***
Well this one was a pleasant surprise.
I know, I know. That sounds horrible, but it’s the truth. I admit I had a few...assumptions as to how the story would go, but from the first page to the last maybe only one came to pass while the rest of the story was one that kept me turning the pages. It had the perfect balance of heat, heart, humor and drama without getting too angsty add to the mix a little historical fiction romance and two characters I couldn’t help but love, and you have what I would say was pretty amazing love story.
I loved Jessie. She’s strong, determined, resilient and has this light inside of her that, regardless of the situations she’d lived through, never died. It may have lost it’s vibrancy a time or two, but it never went away. Callan, I loved him, I did, but while the urge to reach out and hug him was strong, so was the urge to Gibbs smack some sense into him. I empathized with him and believe me when I say my heart hurt for him, but man...Thankfully, I saw the man’s heart and it was quite golden, when he allowed it to out to play.
I really enjoyed Jessie and Callan’s journey to their HEA. I loved seeing how they first collided as tweens and then collided again as adults. It was sweet, swoon worthy, smexy and a little heartbreaking even as it was heartwarming to see how much joy they brought to each other, even when there were some grim things going on with them and around them. I loved how well they flowed together and how they simply understood each other, even when they didn’t necessarily understand themselves. The big roadblock to their HEA wasn’t a surprise, though I will say that I was very much #TeamJessie when it all went down, but Callan definitely stepped up to the plate and I loved where they were in the end.
Soooo...this is my first Mia Sheridan read, which considering that I do have quite a few of her books on the Kindle and do follow her on the various SM sites is kinda sad, but this was the first book I finally had the time to dive into and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The writing was engaging, the pacing was good and I really enjoyed the dual first person POV’s. The characters were all well written, and I wouldn’t mind it at all if Nick and Frankie got their own books one day. But what I really liked was the little historical fiction romance side story that was woven into the story. I found that one just as fascinating and enjoyable as Callan and Jessie’s without it taking over theirs in any way. It was simply a nice little bonus to an already well written love story.

❝Live fiercely and without regret.❞
The reason Mia Sheridan is a one-click author for me is that she knows how to pull my heart-strings. Her words are descriptive, leaving me with a vivid picture of the scene as I am reading and a strong sense of the emotions the characters are experiencing. I become emotionally invested. She typically writes multi-dimensional characters with real-life struggles, who are damaged in some way. Sheridan’s stories are stories about the human spirit. They are about trials and tribulations of everyday people.
As children, Jessica and Callen met in an abandoned boxcar. He was escaping the torment caused by his father and she was escaping the strife her family was suffering at the hands of her father. Callen was her prince and Jessica was his princess. She gave him the gift of music and he gave her her first kiss. Unfortunately, Callen stopped coming to the boxcar, leaving Jessica to wonder how and where he was.
Fate brings them together years later while she is in France working as a translator and he is there on vacation. Even though Callen is now a world-famous musician, he is haunted by his father’s words and doesn’t feel he’s good enough for Jessica. There is a constant push and pull throughout the book because while he wants her in his life, because she’s the only one who quietens the noise in his head, he also feels he’s not good enough for her so he pushes her away.
❝No one makes me feel like you, princess Jessie. No one ever will.❞
Even though ‘More Than Words’, had moments that tugged at my heart, I didn’t find myself emotionally invested in the story and characters as I have in her previous books. Further, I felt it lacked the strong romantic connection I have come to love from this author. My favorite part of the book was the letters Jessica translated. Those letters held yearning, emotion, love, romance, and angst. I wanted to get lost in them, I wanted more of THAT story.
‘More Than Words’ was a sweet second-chance romance filled with beautiful scenery and held a beautiful and romantic side story.

Five musical stars! There is music, hope, redemption and a great love story between two souls destined to be one. I can't get over this book!
How many times have you dream of your Prince Charming or your Knight in Shining Armour? How many times have you pray for him to come and protect you? Life is good but is better when you have a prince to smooth your fears. Wow! I am really inspired after reading the latest release of Mia Sheridan.
More than Words is a beautiful masterpiece that shines with the intensity of millions stars. It is life. It is hope. It is faith. It is redemption. It is trust. It is love. It is everything and more.
There is something magical in Mia's writing that has me over the moon, dreaming and falling in love with each story and each character she creates. They are real and too touchy.
This time she gifted us a broken and sinful Prince and a strong and pure heroine. Two souls destined to save each other at the right time. Two hearts beating at the same rhythm. Jessica and Callen’s paths were intertwined since the beginning. Their childhood was awfully destroyed. Their friendship saves them. Their dreams and creativity smoothed their pain but life happens and they were separated although fate brings them back together.
Their story taught me to be strong and have faith, to cherish every moment like the last one, to have hope in the darkest moments and never give up, to dream and believe in myself and to love unconditionally.
The book is set in one of the most beautiful countries, France, and the story line is wonderful addictive.
As the internationalist I am, I highly enjoyed the reference to Jeanne d'Arc and all the history behind the pages of the manuscript Jessica translated. I felt positively identified with Jessica because I love history as much as she does. It fascinated me. History is the study of past events and it had a different meaning depending on who tells it. To transfer all the knowledge about something or someone is as important as any other work. To see a whole past events connected through the eyes of the historians and people who lived in a specific time is incredible worthy. Mia did an excellent job and researching.
More than Words is a spiritual journey of discovery, redemption and love. It is the most wonderful book I ever read. It was like every good and beautiful thing in the world came together all at once.
I love every single thing about this book. The plot is refreshing and brilliantly developed. It has the right amount of all things French, history, passion, music and love. Those elements make it a perfect read for readers who love real romance.
Callen has ruined me for the following book boyfriends I am sure I will read about. He believed he wasn't worth. My heart broke every time he was tormented by the memory of his father. But fortunately he was saved by an innocent and beautiful angel. He partied hard to numb his pain and darkness. He is an imperfectly perfect fallen angel. Let him tempt you with his music and tormented soul.
I absolutely recommend you this book. It is an overwhelming story that will warm your heart and it will make you believe in love and have faith. There are not enough words to say how much I loved this.
Special note to Mia: the reference to god’s existence is the same one my mom taught me and siblings when we were kids. It is a sweet way to remember that we all have a spiritual side.

Mia Sheridan has the wonderful ability to make all her stories feel like classic fairy tales. She weaves stories transporting readers to places that are magical within the hurts of reality and the world as we know it then she makes that reality forgiving and better. I particularly love how Sheridan starts her stories with a distinctive prologue setting the tone for the words to follow throughout the story. More Than Words fits into the realm of second chance loves in a unique way but still with Sheridan's signature flair for storytelling.
These lonely yet revealing and vulnerable characters are defined by unfortunate childhoods in two very different ways. Fate brought them together in the past forging a strong connection until to whisk it away when years later fate taunts them again. The premise of their story and how Sheridan evolves it from the beginning was really great. I like each character, who they are and what they want to become despite their issues. The two of them together felt sweet and cozy like you intimately knew their connection was lasting no matter the circumstances. A lot of hurdles stand in their way keeping the plot vibrant and buoyant connecting them further.
There were a few places I felt the story got stunted and drug on a bit with the intricacies of the heroines job mixed in but nothing totally detrimental to the story. It gets tricky for me when I'm reading a story and another story is taking place inside it, more of a bit of a distraction I didn't want while invested in the main characters. I really enjoyed reading More Than Words though and definitely find it a lovely, serene, easy romance to fall into the way Mia Sheridan continually provides. Romance lovers will appreciate the setting and the history that surrounds these two as maneuver through old wounds, new hurts, and future bliss.

I was sent this book by the publisher. My ratings and reviews will be my own personal opinions and are in no way influenced by publishers or authors who may have sent me books to review.
“You were my prince and my pirate, my savior and my friend.”
I loved the beginning of this story in which we see how Jessica and Callen meet. I was preparing myself for a very intense read based on that beginning. However; I was expecting this to be way more emotional than it ended up being. Do not get me wrong, it was still good, but just not what I was expecting. I would have liked the story to follow more of the issues that were discussed in the beginning. I did not find the twist towards the end to be realistic. It does address something that is not often seen in books I read, but it just did not bring that emotional pull I wanted.
We find our characters meeting at a very young age, both dealing with troubles. Then Callen disappears. Years later a chance encounter has Callen and Jessica meeting in France. I actually thought it was refreshing that the characters did not get together at first sight, and that we were given a little bit of each story before we jumped right into them being together.
If you enjoy history and romance, you will love this. Jessica is working on translating documents that may or may not be related to Joan of Arc. I personally could have done with less information around her job. I just was not invested into this aspect of the story and found myself skimming these sections to get back to Callen’s live and their relationship.
Overall, this was a great read just not anything that blew me away.

Words tell stories, of course, but as Mia Sheridan crafts so evocatively in this book, musical notes and actions also tell stories.
Callen and Jessica communicated with words, actions, and music when they were kids, but years pass before they see each other as adults. When they reunite, Mia Sheridan shows you how difficult it is to understand someone who changes their language. They misunderstand each other. There are fits and starts. They have to find a new language, a new way to communicate.
I love so much about this book. I love how Mia Sheridan asks you to think about fate and higher powers. She asks you to consider the idea of soul mates and destiny, and she asks you to reflect on the power of prayer. Not that this book dives deep into theology. It's more that she makes you think about what you ask for and what you expect.
And I loved the hotness. Mia Sheridan writes some delicious sexy times, largely because in Callen she has a delectable Hot Hero. He's tortured and plagued but he's far more open than he realizes. In Jessica, he finds what he needs to help him realize that he's stronger than he thinks he is. She is someone who learns from her mistakes yet also allows herself to stay true to her hopes and aspirations. So those sexy times? They are scorching. They ignite the pages.
Parts of this book made me cry, parts made me laugh, and parts made me quiver (you know what I mean). You want to meet Jessica and Callen. You really do.

More Than Words is a standalone adult contemporary romance. The narrators are Jessica and Callen. The book is divided into 3 parts.
The prologue begins when Jessica is 11 and Callen is 12 and we see some of their childhood. Part 1 and chapter 1 continues with Jessica at 24. She is a french translator living in Paris. And Callen is a classical music composer/playboy.
What I liked. The book is mostly set in France. I loved that as a setting. We get to see some of Paris. But the book takes us throughout France. It was a wonderful setting for a romance.
What I liked less. Callen is a womanizing manwhore. And there were times when he was crass or used the f-word. I really felt that was unneeded. And I didn't love the drinking and sleeping around part. His bad-boy behavior made him sort of unlikable.
The story also features some stuff about Joan of Arc. That part was definitely unique and interesting.
Jessica was much more likable. I loved her job. This was a fairly big part of the story. Her job was very interesting. Also she just seemed like a really good person.
I think that the last part of the story was the strongest for me. And the epilogue was really good. Overall, I think that this was a good book. However, some of the author's previous books have been outstanding. And that probably means that I put her books to a higher standard than some other books.

More Than Words is a childhood friends to lover romance that will make your heart soar and hurt it all at the same time. I'm going to be very honest here and I know that this isn't fair to the author. I actually really think this book could have spoken to me more than it did if I didn't just come off of one of the most emotional books I've ever read right before I started it. The writing is brilliant and the storytelling is flawless. I was connected to Jessie and Callen from the start. I honestly just think I was emotional spent. For that, I apologize dear Mia Sheridan and I will most definitely be going back and reading it again soon.
I think one of my favorite things about Jessie and Callen's story is from the moment they met, they accepted each other. They were each others rocks and watching that foundation build was beautiful. It only makes you fight harder with them later down the road.
I also really loved the historical part of it. With Jessie's job and the history that she becomes a part of. I sort of geeked out over it, which is saying a lot because I used to HATE history! Her passion made me passionate about it.
Oh..and can we talk about Callen's assistant. When she was checking his text messages for him and relaying things on, I was dying. Dying. She was so freaking hilarious.
If you are looking for a soulmate romance with two unique people who have been in love since they were children but overcome a lot to be together in the end, then this is the book for you. It will make you feel, so be prepared for that.

More Than Words is a heart stopping, epic romance that details the love between two people over a span of a decade. Callan and Jessie met when they were just kids, in an old abandoned box car grew a relationship so important even years later they feel the chemistry and pure love for each other that they always had.
This book was something I did not expect. I'm a really fast reader, I could have banged this book out in a day but I felt such a strong connection to it that I savored every word in it. I made sure it took me a few days to read so that I could reflect back on the wonderful written words of Mia Sheridan. She always puts so much insight into her books, it's like I learn new things on life and love.
Callan and Jessie's book was amazing in every sense of the word, and shows us to characters who face their own broken painful pasts, yet the pieces of their lives fit perfectly together. It's the perfect love story for France, the City of Love where it takes place. The adventures of something pure, while adding in some astounding history. It encompasses both Past and Present, with two love stories in one. More than Words is exactly that. It's the love and feelings you get when reading it. I'll carry the words from this book with me forever, a must read for any romance lover. Be prepared to make some room in your heart <3

Every girls wish is to find there prince. When Jessica was wandering around as a little girl and looked up to see this boy Callen in a boxcar that’s exactly who Jessica saw. “I’m here to save you,” This love story is a pull at your heart and soul type of story that makes you shed some tears but puts a smile at your face feeling love. Fate is cruel at times but everything happens for a reason. Two characters there are so different but so much alike in ways that will take your breath away. The author always knows how to make me feel like my heart is on my sleeve by reading her words. It’s definitely a romance that will open your eyes and one I’ll never forget. 5/5 stars in my top 2018 best reads.

mia sheridan writes romances that pack some real heavy emotional weight. you get your happy ending, and thank goodness because the characters are put through the wringer to earn it. but you are also left thoughtful, pensive, wistful after reading her books. personally, i enjoy the mix. i love a good fluffy romance, but i also love a heavier, angstier tale. more than words is more the latter.
callen and jess do not have an easy go of it. they met as children and jess loved him then, but callen had demons and secrets that kept him away. and when his musical career foundered and he re-encountered jess at a low point, he still had some tumbling to do before he was ready to pick things back up.
for this story to work, we need the glimpses of the past. we need to understand who callen was to jess, and why she loves him even when he's kind of a jerk. he comes around, and it's her love that gets him there. and so it's an earned happy ending. and sometimes when you earn it, it's the best happy ending of all.
**more than words will publish on june 12, 2018. i received an advance reader copy courtesy of netgalley/grand central publishing (forever) in exchange for my honest review.

Ah yet another story where Mia masterfully captured your heart.
Callen and Jessie's first meeting is symbolic. Both come from broken homes which seem different but inherently are the same. A young friendship develops. They lose sight and touch of each other.
Memories, support, an undying attraction leads to a rekindling.
Emotional, angst, heart tugging story of achievements in spite of obstacles - MORE THAN WORDS.......

I absolutely loved this book.... from page 1, I was drawn into this story of second chances and fate. It follows the story of Callen and Jessica (Jessie). Childhood friends if only for a short while, they forge a connection. Only at some point, Callen disappears from Jessie's life. Years later, they end up in the same place at the same time. "I'm here to save you". Mia's story evolves to allowing Jessie and Callen to reconnect but is it some kind of fate? Read to find out. It's such a beautiful story and definitely worth the time it takes to read.

I love Mia Sheridan writing. I’ve loved her since the First Time I read Archer Voice. Incredible book if you haven’t read it.
More Than Words is a beautiful love story. Jessica & Callen meant as teens. Jessica loved to read and go on pretend adventures with Callen. Jessica also taught Callen about music. After Callen disappears without a word. Jessica keep with her study’s. Her dream was to move to France. Years later they end up they run into one another’s in a restaurant in Paris. Jessica recognizes him but, Callen doesn’t recognize her.
By fate they both end up in a small town in France. Callen realizes it’s his Jessie all grown up and wants to send the time there together. What starts out as a beautiful friendship turns into so much more.
I definitely recommend reading More Than Words and ever other Book Mia Sheridan has written. There will be no disappointment.

I really enjoyed More Than Words, it was beautifully written. The relationship between Jessica and Callen was unexpected and sweet.
From the moment I started this book I couldn’t put it down. Jessica and Callum are from different sides of the tracks. They both had painful childhoods with their own family problems. They formed a friendship and played make believe and then all of a sudden one day he was gone.
Years later they see each other again. Callan has changed a lot and is no longer the sweet boy she once knew. He is now a famous composer. Jessica works at a museum doing translations.
This was a beautiful, emotional story I couldn’t put down. I highly recommend this book.

More than Words Mia Sheridan is the story of Callen Hayes and Jessica Creswell.
Callen and Jessica meet when they were young kids going through harsh times. They became friends and made their own magical dreams at the time. But later Callen gave her a first kiss but then left her. Callen became somewhat famous but for him he ended up personally drinking and sleeping with women to forget the pain he was living with. By chance they meet again, Jessica still has stars and somewhat innocent dreams with life even though she too knows hardships.
This was a very emotional read with their story line but overall I enjoyed their story.

Thankful for Netgalley for giving me this arc in exchange of an honest review.
Wow my heart is breaking for these two. I'm crossing my fingers that they get their fairy tale in the end.
Jessie and Callen find themselves with horrible fathers. Jessie dad is always unfaithful so her mom is always crying or fighting with him. Callen dad is very abusive physically and verbally. They both decide to escape their lives and go on a walk. Not knowing each other they both end up at the same abandoned train box car. This is where their story begins of how the princess met her prince.
As kids they fell for eachother but Callen had to leave her and Jessie had no idea why. She assumed she did something wrong. Sure enough fate made sure they found each other again. I love how they found out to have faith in the other an in themselves. As a spiritual person I loved this story just was missing a little more romance.
Side note: I love St. Joan of Arc happy they were some journal writings describing what she went through in this story. No idea if they were true writings but if you like historical romance this is for you. You will love Jessie working on translating the journal. I did find myself skimming some of it though. It was cute how Jessie compared herself to the lady who wrote the journal.

Some parts felt cliché and I guessed Callen's secret almost immediately but other than that this book was Sheridan perfection. It made me smile. Second chance romance, anticipation, angst, and sigh-worthy romance. I ate it up cover to cover. Amazing.

From the first moment Jessica and Callen meet as 11-year-old kids, they share a special connection. Both come from troubled homes, and Jessie instinctually knows when she sees the battered boy sitting in the boxcar that they are kindred spirits of a sort. The stolen moments they spend together become the best memories of their childhoods but when Callen suddenly disappears just a short time after they share their first kiss, Jessie can’t help but wonder if she did something to chase him away. She doesn’t know his last name or where he lives so she has no way to seek answers.
Fate puts them on a collision course again eleven years after she last saw him. Jessie helped Callen discover a love of music all those years ago, and he has turned that into a career writing music supporting screenplays for movies. He is still the same damaged little boy on the inside though, and years of being told he was stupid and unworthy of love have taken their toll to the point he now believes them without question. He uses women and booze to try to drown out the negativity in his head, but it is becoming harder every day to ignore it- until a chance encounter with a waitress in Paris. Something about her tugs at his memory and feels familiar but they are interrupted before he can connect the dots.
Jessie is mildly devastated that Callen didn’t remember her, but they never got to exchange anything aside from another kiss that will certainly ruin her for all other men. She achieved her dream of living in Paris and is now pursuing the next step of obtaining a job that fits in with her focus on ancient documents, so the night they meet is Jessie’s last night on the waitressing job.
Once again, Fate intervenes and they find themselves in the same place at the same time again- something neither of them can chalk up to coincidence. A childhood filled with watching her father cheat on her mom over and over again leaves her with little desire to have her heart trampled on the same way, and she is terrified that if she lets Callen in again he will turn out to be just like her dad. Callen has no desire to hurt her that way, but he hides a big secret and he is petrified to reveal it and discover his father was actually right all those years so he self-sabotages every good thing that comes his way. Jessie has always been his savior and Callen has always been her prince- but sometimes you just have to have the desire to save yourself before you can have the fairy tale.
Callen’s destructive behaviors had me shaking my head a few times, but Jessie is no doormat which I absolutely loved. More Than Words is another wonderful story from Mia Sheridan that will make you smile, laugh, and feel a few tugs on your heartstrings too.

Please RateMore Than Words: A Love Story
So, what is this story about? The synopsis below said it all … so I won’t repeat myself.
The moment she met Callen Hayes, eleven-year-old Jessica Creswell knew he was a broken prince. Her prince. They became each other's refuge, a safe and magical place far from their troubled lives. Until the day Callen kissed her--Jessica's first real, dreamy kiss—and then disappeared from her life without a word.
Years later, everyone knows who Callen Hayes is. Famous composer. Infamous bad boy. What no one knows is that Callen's music is now locked deep inside, trapped behind his own inner demons. It's only when he withdraws to France to drink his way through the darkness that Callen stumbles into the one person who makes the music return. Jessica. His Jessie. And she still tastes of fresh, sweet innocence . . . even as she sets his blood on fire.
But they don't belong in each other's worlds anymore. There are too many mistakes. Too many secrets. Too many lies. All they have is that instinctive longing, that need—and something that looks dangerously like love.
Seriously! I cannot get enough from this author. Callen and Jessie’s story is sort of a modern fairytale – a broken prince who befriended and protected his princess, then disappeared. A decade later destiny brought them together again. This time Callen is the one needing rescuing from his own demons. Callen has grown into a sex God. A famous music composer who is spiraling down a dark path. Jessie is beautiful and driven. She is living out her dream in Paris like she always wanted. Jessie always wondered why Callen left her behind without a word after the special friendship they shared. Time did not change Jessie’s feelings for Callen but she is reluctant to put her heart on the line again. Can Callen and Jessie rekindle the magic they once had?
“Life was more than words. It was laughter and love, faith and joy. And mostly, it was the deep peace that came from living life fiercely and without regret.”
More than words is a sweet childhood puppy love / second chance romance. The road to HEA is not without struggles and heartbreaks. This story is about forgiveness, redemption, fate and finding love when you least expect it. Mia’s elegant writing always draws me deep into the plot… I almost feel like I am existing in the story right along with the characters. Callen and Jessie both have their own demons, secrets, and troubles to overcome. I am not going to lie. The hero is a bit of a man-whore, one who does not quite know what he wants – meaningless sex and partying. Jessie remains innocent, waiting for her prince charming. Callen knows Jessie is THE ONE for him however doesn’t think he deserves her love. Jessie wants to give Callen a second chance but her not so stellar upbringing makes it difficult to trust others. I can literally feel their struggle but I think it’s the characters’ vulnerability, flaws, and how they grow and persevere that make them real and relatable. This book definitely pulled at all my heart strings. It’s got all the feels - sweet and innocent, heartbreak and redemption, hopes, dreams, courage and a happily ever after. By the time I finished the epilogue I was a blubbering mess. What I adore about this author’s book is that every story comes with a special meaning and message, one that captivated you and stays rooted in your mind long after the last page is turned. You will see … nothing is as it seems and people will only choose to show you what they want you to see.
“One life is all we have and we live it as we believe in living it. But to sacrifice what you are and to live without belief, that is a fate more terrible than dying.”
This author is timeless and forever one of my favorites. I can’t recommend this book enough to all of you – Unique, unforgettable, and simply exquisite.
“To never being too old to learn new things.” ---- AMEN!
