This far into the Hollows series, I'm nowhere near bored with it. That's saying something when you have ADHD. *chuckle* Harrison tells excellent stories and doesn't forget that the CHARACTERS are as important as the action. She also doesn't go overboard with the sex and romance, which I find refreshing since that's not what I read these books for and, frankly, it's being over-done to death by other authors. So far the Hollows series hasn't disappointed with it's wonderful blend of action, emotion, intrigue, magic and mystery! It's a fun read and I find myself anxiously awaiting the next installment every time I finish a new one!

This book was mouth watering and spectacular. My only complaint is that I read it too fast. A lot of things are wonderfully cleared up in this novel. We finally learn what Trent's father did to Rachel's DNA. Some secrets about Rachel's father come out of the closet. We learn why Takata always seems to show up out of no where. Ceri's relationship is explored and more drama is revealed. We learn why Trent seems to loathe Rachel in such an unusual way. There's even some secrets given up about Keasley! And the ending is so spectacular that I cannot imagine waiting another year for the next book!
This author needs to teach Laurell K. Hamilton some things! LKH is like the Britney Spears of the paranormal fantasy world, and Kim Harrison is easily the Christina Aguilera! (Sorry if the similes offend you!)
I'm very glad Rachel's mom has a more prominent role in this book. She's a fire cracker! Rachel is even more powerful and doesn't show any signs of stopping.
Ohhh and she also might have a new relationship in the works. But the author is very careful to respect Kristen's memory.
This book was just superb. Get it!

This book has a much faster plot and more complex than the previous 2 books For a Few Demons More and A Fistful of Charms (Rachel Morgan, Book 4) are not as strong but help establish characters in the series have good plots and are very good reads. I would recommend them as well as Dead Witch Walking (Rachel Morgan, Book 1) which introduces the characters and the world they live in.
This book has a very nicely intertwined plot with excellent characters and some supprise twists. Humor is back as Rachel and Trent are at the roller rink and Trent gets the best costume (its Halloween) as Trent and Rachel is told her hair is too kinky for the best costume as Rachel.
May well be the best book in the series; a truly outstanding read.

Rachel's story gets better and better with each book.
I have to admit I was convinced I would hate this book because of the loss of Kisten's character. But I actually loved it.
In this book things happen and characters go places.
I loved Trent in the book than I have in any other. He is interesting and I like to read about him. Marshal is good to have around too (though no one will ever be as cool as Kisten.) I thought Ivy was a bit boring this book, same old sulking, hungry, self loathing vampire she always is and I cannot wait until Harrison cracks that character wide open. Ivy has a lot to offer, it just wasn't up for grabs as much in this book.
I sort of felt like Rachel's mom and whole family history thing was kind of out of left field. I wish there would have been more about it in the previous books so that the plot twist didn't feel as force fed as it was. (Though it's been a while since I read the older books.) But I loved it anyways.
I think the demon developments in this book are exciting and as always, interesting. The rules of the demon world, the rules of ley lines, the rules of the family tree of the super natural are really well thought/written out. Al is a very unique character- while he's repulsive morally (being a demon and all) I enjoy reading about his goings on in the ever after. It's a well crafted world that is convincing and Al I think is a very developed character.
One other thing I want to mention about this book is the reality of death Harrison touched on. For once it wasn't a "If I die oh well, but I'm sure I'll make it" kind of mission Rachel went on. It was a "Oh shucks I could really die doing this." Like, her little flaw of craving danger is sort of crumbling and the adventures feel realer now that Rachel isn't portrayed as reckless. Also the fact that she can't leave her house after dark is a real obstacle that "dealing in demons" presents. I like that she has issues and problems and pains in her neck just like everyone else.
The way Harrison dealt with Rachel's grief for Kisten was actually pretty minimal for such a situation but definitely much more thoughtful than I expected. It wasn't glossed over and it wasn't repetitively angst-y.
I have to get a little Jenks fangirly here and just say he is THE best partner ever invented.
Anyways, this book was a thrill. Harrison is talented and it's a pleasure reading about Rachel's adventures. xD

I have really enjoyed the Rachel Morgan series and look forward to the latest installment about to be released. I think The Outlaw Demon Wails is a significant turning point in the series that you cannot miss.
The only negative thing I have to say is about the audio version. For some reason when there is a pivotal turning point in an audio book series, some publishers swap out narrators- as if it makes it more poignant. Totally NOT the case with Gigi Bermingham as the narrator.
I had grown attached to the original narrator, Marguerite Gavin, thinking her voice perfect for the all of the characters- especially Rachel. The shrill pitch Gigi Bermingham used for Jenks drove me crazy- grating on my eardrums. And her pronunciation irked me to no end. My eyes rolled in the back of my head every time Bermingham said `ley line' and `Piscary'.
I think if you are hooked on the series, you don't want to miss this book, but I would read it- not listen to the audio. And if you have to listen to the audio- just prepare to be annoyed.

Loved it, but I guess you can tell from my 5 stars. Now! For MY reason. This is not one of those deep thinking book that tries to enlighten the reader on human philosophy or give you a glance within a society personality. A book that can cover pages and pages of the writer hypothesis into the subconscious, etc. If that is what you like to read, this book is not it. THANK GOODNESS!
This is a book that takes you away for a few hours if you're quick reader, or days if you like to read leisurely. The world of Rachel Morgan a witch and her best friends, a vampire name Ivy and Jinx a pixie. She is a very lovable individual who only wants to do the job she loves- bring in the bad guys. But her life gets out of control once more when she has to help those around her.

Absolutely fabulous! I finished it in two days and had a terrible time putting it down. To see how much Rachel has grown and matured from the first book to this one was wonderful. Harrison has found her niche in creating and developing characters without having them grow stagnant. Even in this sixth installment the plot thickens when Rachel discovers some horrible facts about her family. Nothing seemed contrived or forced. It was as though Harrison had all this planned from book one. Each new story line fitted perfectly into where the story had been heading all along. I am so anxious to read the next one.

Rachel Morgan is one of my all time favorite heroines. I know she does stupid things but strangely enough, I'm always rooting for her to do it because I know that interesting things will come of it. A lot of threads are tied up or at least strengthened in this latest book and I am SOOOO glad since too many series start to lag or fall apart by now. The storytelling was tightly wound and everything happened for a reason.
Rachel is still recovering from the death of her vampire boyfriend Kisten and is trying to move on with life, be a better person, stop acting so impulsive and grow up. But it doesn't seem to matter that her intentions are good becuase she's still being targeted by demons and forced into situations that aren't the happiest.
Her attempts to have a normal friendship with Ivy may finally be paying off even though it's not anything that they would have foreseen as being possible. She has a possible new love interest in Marshal (who's aloso a witch and seems like strong enough person to handle life with Rachel)even though she's fighting it because she knows its too soon after Kisten.
Rachel's mother is a riot and my favorite line from the book may have to be from her...'pee-stained hole' made me laugh out loud. Jenks is awesome as usual and I am loving the mysterious guest in the belfry named Bis and what his arrival portends for Rachel. Al is given some slightly grey shades to his black soul and despite his always frantic attempts to kill Rachel--I kind of like him. He's a great villian and I hope his role continues to grow.
Finally this book ends with the tantalizing thought of what Rachel will become now that her past is revealed and she is heading into the the 'ever-after'. I've a feeling that although she's fighting it, deep inside, she's as excited as we are to be going there. And I just know that in the end, it's going to be a happily ever after for our heroine.

Like seemingly ever other listener of the audiobook, I am appalled at the change in narrators in the middle of a series. Horrific narration!! Even if Gigi hadn't butchered names and common words and made the characters' voices annoying and whiney. Her reading was liken to Eeyore from Winnie the Pooh... sounded glum in every situation. Glad this audiobook was free at my local library (not LIBARY)

I love how the characters get along. How many books have a witch, a family of pixies, a living vampire, a werewolf and more getting along with each other in a church?
The plot is simple - Al is back and he is pissed. All the rules have been tossed out the window as he is so anger he wants to kill Rachel no matter what the results will be. Can Rachel control an out of control demon? Who else will die? What about the gargoyles? Trent and the future of the elves? There are so many answers and yet so many questions. This series needs a dozen more books just to answer them.

I enjoyed Kim Harrison books when they first came out. I was looking for more romance, but the story line was great so I bypassed that. I then fell in love with the books when I started to listen to them on my mp3 player. The old narrator, Marguerite Gavin, did such a great job of bringing Rachel to life. I felt more like I knew all of the characters completely and I was just a bystander in their life.
With this latest book, the narrator has changed. Her name is Gigi Birmingham. I HATE HOW SHE READS RACHEL!!!! The first 10-15 minutes into the audiobook I noticed that Gigi reads rachel like she is a 16 or 17 year old. It doesn't help that the first scene is rachel with her mother, that just increased "rachels" (gigi's) childlike behavior and manner of speaking. Also, Gigi makes Jenks voice really high pitch. It doesn't sound right. PLUS, SHE MISPRONOUNCES WORDS. Having listened to the first 5 books read by Marguerite Gavin, I may have become accustomed to the mispronouced words. Hearing Gigi pronouce them differently, DRIVES ME UP THE WALL. She can't even say the word adult right, she completely butchers Piscary's and Takata's names. I may just be used to the way that margeurite said them, but there should be some fluidity between the 6 books, and pronounciation should be fluid between them all. I am totally disheartened at how this new narrator just does not get Rachel and has totally portrayed her incorrectly. I will not purchase the next audiobook if Gigi reads it again. The narrator makes or breaks a book, Gigi mutilated this one. I think I am going to stop listening to the audio and read the book instead, maybe I will enjoy the book better.

i began reading the rachel morgan series when i grew tired of the anita blake series by laurel k. hamilton. i had dabbled with reading charlaine harris, the urban shaman series, and blood ties all to no avail. the story lines were either predictable or the books became more about sex and less about a true paranormal story. then i discovered the rachel morgan series by kim harrison. the paranomal creatures are out and proud! witches, wares, vampires, pixies, fairies, elves, demons, etc. they all come together for good and for bad in this series. what is rachel? an elven baby?! quinn you dog! a gargoyle!! and how can trent chose to be so judgemental?
these stories aren't just repeated sex scenes, in fact, its a nice change of pace to read a series that focuses on a story line and character development. this is book 6 in the series and i hope kim harrison keeps the series going and keeps the material fresh. she has done well thus far.

Rachel Morgan's character grows a lot in this book, and the story takes an unexpected twist. I must give credit to Kim Harrison for how well she pulled together the story. Sometimes you can tell a plot change wasn't planned properly, but Harrison proves it can be done with finesse. --spoiler-- I'm still upset over the death of Rachel's vampire lover from book five, and even more upset that his killer has yet to be caught. I can only hope we find out what truly happened in book seven.

Harrison's newest book made me forget any disappointments I may have had with her last novel (For a Few Demons More)! The plot was fast-paced and exciting to read. While Harrison didn't drop the earlier Rachel/Ivy blood balance plot line, this time it didn't overwhelm the action like it did in "Demons". The ending was unexpected but logical, and it opens a whole new set of plot opportunities while leaving us a few unfinished paths down which to continue including Kisten's murder, the pixies' short lifespan (I did miss Matalina this time!), the betrayal of Nick, and Anita's neverending feuds with Al and Trent. This was a thoroughly enjoyable read. I can't wait for the next one!

Kim Harrison ended her last book with a shocking twist: the death of Kisten, Rachel Morgan's vampire boyfriend.
And the repercussions of that climactic twist are felt all over "The Outlaw Demon Wails," a glorious follow-up that continues twisting (or is it spindling?) the plot all over. Harrison weaves together a half dozen vital storues into an even more tightly-written, shocking novel -- where we get lots and lots of new revelations and answered questions.
Rachel and her mother are shopping for Halloween costumes and talismans when the demon Al appears, destroys the shop, and nearly kills Rachel. Somebody is summoning him out of demon prison, and setting him after Rachel -- and her personal patch of holy ground is getting a big cramped, due to an increasingly bloodlusting Ivy and Jenks' massive family moving in.
And as Rachel struggle to cope with these problems, she learns that Ceri is pregnant -- and to keep her baby and the elf race healthy, they need a sample of ancient elf tissue from the ever-after. Though Rachel initially refuses, she finds that this elf drama is somehow connected to the terrible secrets of her past -- and a journey to the ever-after might help her defeat Al. But it might also open a Pandora's box of secrets about Rachel's own future...
Rachel's parentage. Her father's horrible death. Her memory loss after Kistan's death. Her friendship with Ivy. The true nature of the witches, elves and demons. Not to mention her future love life.
Yes, all these plot threads get dealt with in an utterly satisfactory way. And unlike many of her urban fantasy contemporaries, Kim Harrison weaves them into a solid, thrilling plot with a good balance of characters, action and humour. And she can keep the storyline twisting right up to the end -- literally. She introduces two massive twists toward the end that have enormous repercussions for Rachel.
It must be admitted that the plot sags in the middle of the book, when Al and the elf problem seem to get derailed in favour of Rachel's love life/social life problems. But Harrison picks up the slack quickly, and she hasn't lost her knack for tightly written, wry descriptions ("Hence the general weirdness of elves eating hot dogs in my backyard") and snappy, entertainingly self-deprecating dialogue ("Fried eggs!").
And there's plenty of quirky situations that help lighten the rather dark mood -- such as a very apologetic gargoyle crashing into Rachel's church. Jenks and his equally troublesome family provide loads of comic relief as well -- gotta love them pixies.
And Harrison's feisty heroine goes through some painful growth, learns more about her family and her true nature, and has some old wounds reopened. In a sense, this is Rachel's "grief book" -- she spends a great deal of time thinking about the loss of her father and Kisten, and freaking out when she starts remembering how they died. Fortunately Harrison avoids letting her heroine become "emo" -- note the hilarious scene where she's ashamed to admit that she's perused a vampire sex book.
But as Rachel deals with her grief and love for Kisten, Harrison delicately introduces a potential love interest. She doesn't spin anything more than chemistry yet, but it's a person who could become something to her in future.
Other characters get fleshed out as well -- we get to see underneath Trent's coolly slimy exterior to some of his hidden feelings, Ivy's vampiric nature, and even Al gets some new dimensions. And even among the peripheral characters, Harrison's quirky sense of humour is present -- just consider the vampire-sex-manual-writing ex-Presidential vampire master.
Kim Harrison's "The Outlaw Demon Wails" has a slowdown in the middle, but revs up fast for a twisty-turny, revelation-filled finale. Urban fantasy as it ought to be.

I just finished this book, DAMN! This one takes you on a rollercoaster ride. It reveals alot of information you didn't even know you were missing in the first Morgan books. The characters are growing and learning but also realizing the impact their (mostly Rachel) decisions are making on those they love. When you finish you are going to cry when you realize it is one more year before you find out who Kisten's killer is. I would love to expand more about the revelations, but you have to read it. I promised Kim no spoilers, MAN. :)

Re-read... The above statement still sums up my feeling about this book and the series in general. Jenks is still my favorite character he's his usual flippant self and I love that! This book is too good to put down!

Another great book in the series! Rachel is in deep again. With Kisten gone and no idea who killed him Rachel is trying to move on. Ivy is trying to figure out who the undead that killed him and attacked Rachel. Marshall comes around to visit Rachel. Trent asks a huge favor & Ceri is pregnant! Wow it keeps getting better.

Having listened to the first 5 books read by Marguerite Gavin, I may have become accustomed to the mispronouced words. i began reading the rachel morgan series when i grew tired of the anita blake series by laurel k. hamilton. i had dabbled with reading charlaine harris, the urban shaman series, and blood ties all to no avail. the story lines were either predictable or the books became more about sex and less about a true paranormal story. then i discovered the rachel morgan series by kim harrison. the paranomal creatures are out and proud! witches, wares, vampires, pixies, fairies, elves, demons, etc. they all come together for good and for bad in this series. what is rachel? an elven baby?! quinn you dog! a gargoyle!! and how can trent chose to be so judgemental?
these stories aren't just repeated sex scenes, in fact, its a nice change of pace to read a series that focuses on a story line and character development. this is book 6 in the series and i hope kim harrison keeps the series going and keeps the material fresh. she has done well thus far.

I just read this entire series, and this book is definitely my favorite of them, and I have to say one of my favorite books I have ever read. The action starts immediately from page one, it draws you right in. I could not put this book down much to the dismay of my family and chores lol. This one is a definite must read... however if you haven't read any books from this series before, I strongly recommend that you start with book one. I am climbing the walls until I get my pre-ordered copy of Black Magic Sanction (book 8). If you enjoy occult fiction you will love this book.

In this book Rachel is still mourning Kisten's death, but trying to move on with her life and grow up as well. Things are complicated by Al slipping out of jail. Rachel works out how to protect herself and the ones she loves from the threat of Al.
I loved the book, and I'm eagerly looking forward to the next one. Harrison has allowed her heroine to take a good look at herself and realize she needs to make better choices in life. She's always been an adrenaline junkie, but now she's realizing the costs. It's a well done show of a character growing as her situation changes. We get more of her relationship with her mother, bringing more depth as well. There is also some significant information about her father to add to the mix.
All the usual side characters are present, and I'm glad to see things working themselves out with these characters. There are still plenty of loose ends for another book, but this one was able to tie up many that have been hanging from the first book.

Over time, I've worked (*maybe not the right word..*) my way through a number of Kim Harrison books. What keeps me interested is not that her characters are perfect--but rather the nature of their flaws. It makes them seem so much more real. In this installation we get some questions answered about the war between the demons and elves. I bought this one on impulse to read on the Kindle and for those of you with kindles, I'd say that it reads rather well on the device.

Book 6 of The Hollows series is definitely one of the best that Harrison has penned! While I got a tiny bit bored with Rachel's post-Kisten mooning, there were so many new twists and secrets finally revealed that my jaw kept dropping and I kept turning pages like mad! I only gave it four stars, as it did drag a bit, but I highly recommend it. I don't know how Harrison keeps them coming and am very excited about number 7 being weeks away!

What I love about the Rachel Morgan series is that these books are just fun. They're fun to read -- the stories are great and the characters are, while fictional, people you want to know. Yes, even the vampires. The Outlaw Demon Wails provides more seemingly impossible tasks that Rachel has to overcome, and it does so in a way that wants you to keep turning the page. Oh, and Rachel reminds me of a few women I know...characteristics and all.
I'm not really sure if I would call myself the target market for this series, but I love it. I stumbled on the Rachel Morgan books just by browsing the store, and I was hooked with book 1. Keep them coming, Harrison!

Without spoiling anything for readers who have not yet read For a Few Demons More (the 5th Rachel Morgan book), I was really very upset and devastated by certain events in that book, and it took me nearly a year to get over my sadness and re-read the book. I wasn't even sure I wanted to buy The Outlaw Demon Wails in hardback, but decided to give Kim Harrison one more chance.
I'm so glad I did, and now I'm waiting with bated breath for the next one. There are so many awesome revelations in this book, things that Harrison has clearly been building up to throughout the whole series, and only now can reveal to us. As well as answering many mysteries, she also sets up many more in this one, and I really can't wait to see what happens next. She's clearly taking Rachel in a very different direction from what I had been expecting, and I suspect it's going to be a hell of a ride.

Do yourself a favor and read this book, it is awesome, full of surprises and ties up so many questions from prior books. After almost every chapter, I felt like, did I just read that? The entire gang is back in this one, Rachael, Ivy, Jenks, David, more of Rachaels, Mother, in this book, and a character that we first met in For a Few Demons More. I can't wait for the next book in the series. As I said this book answers some questions you may have from earlier books, but at the end, you will have new questions to ask from the next books.

I love the characters, but Rachel is getting a little too perfect, too supremely powerful and loved by all. The plot is still a stuck-together bunch of individual little stories. Some things at the end in the everafter didn't make good sense, if any sense, and a good editor should have caught and fixed that. Still enjoyable. Wonderful revelations about Rachel's parentage.

In this installment of the Rachel Morgan series, we get to learn some secrets about Rachels heritage - things she never thought possible. The adventure starts with Rachel trying to outwit Al, the demon she's had run-ins with in the past. She learns that Al, who is supposed to be jailed from her testimony against him, is being freed nightly by another witch summoning him to release his fury on her. Ivy and Rachel come to an agreement, Jenks is there to save the day, we meet a new character, the gargoyle Bis, Trent and Quen are nearby to add to chaos. It's all in a day's work for Rachel.
By this end of this tale, you know you are being set up for the next novel, but shouldn't mind too much, except for the waiting. There are character arcs, mutual understandings and enough thrills to make this a stellar addition to the Rachel Morgan series.

Harrison always keeps the story moving along with tons of action. This book lets us see a bit father into the hearts of the characters. I didn't really see those parts of the book as "slow moving", but rather a necessary part of the plot. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series. Here's hoping that Rachel, Ivy and Jenks do some serious damage to the undead vampire responsible for killing Kisten.

I love it when a series gets to the point where you just need to know what is going to happen next. Rachel hits a barrier at the end of this book and goes through it. Can't wait for the next one!
In the meantime a good writer has become even better. Characters more interesting. And the plot turns in ways you don't expect.
If you liked the earlier books, you will love this one.

First let me start off by saying the last book in this series left me cold. I didn't enjoy it so I wasn't looking forward to this one. But I picked it up because I heard rumors of having some questions answered.
I struggled to get through the first 150-200 pages. It just felt like rehash to me (although I do have to say I'm impressed that Rachel is TRYING to change her stupid ways). Ivy still can't control her bloodlust, she isn't over her attraction to Rachel, and is terrified Rachel will leave her. Ivy has NOT changed since book 1 and I'm tired of her and her whining.
I ended up skimming the parts where Rachel was mourning Kisten. When he died, I was having a hard time caring cuz I was so disgusted with the characters and now I still have a hard time caring that he's gone. And Rachel spening about a 1/3 of the book saying she was still grieving and not ready to move on, yet clearly wanting to...was just old. It was fine the first 2 times she mentioned it but by the 15th...I just wanted to slap her.
And the plot hasn't changed much either since the first book. Demons are after Rachel, she has to use one demon to get herself out of trouble with the first demon which means she owes demon #2 another favor. So she gets in hock with Demon #3 to get out of her bargain with Demon #2 and it just keeps circling. She's still doing the trying-to-nail-Trent dance. That's old and boring too. How many times does Rachel have to say how much she hates Trent? Got it the first zillion times over the last 5 books.
And it goes on like that. We do get answers into Rachel's childhood illness and what that may mean for her, but that was the only interesting part of the book. Everything else was just retread. She even has a new love interest sniffing around. He sounds just like Nick and Kisten did in the beginning.
Ms. Harrison has REALLY got to shake things up. But I think its too late for me. I don't think I'll be rushing out to buy Rachel Morgan #7.

THE OUTLAW DEMON WAILS
KIM HARRISON
Rating: 5 Enchantments
Rachel Morgan is a smut covered, demon-calling, Vamp-loving, honorary Alpha-Were, friend of a Pixie, Running Witch. Or is she? When all that this witchy Witch holds near and dear is questioned: who she is, where she came from, is she possessed or obsessed with Demon calling - not to mention the misty memories of who killed her Vampire-boyfriend, Kisten, who can blame ones faulty facilities when you've a Demon hell bent for your blood? Because just like Brimstone, the answers fade in the rush of adrenalin-induced fear.
With the return of Rachel, Jenks, Ivy and the rest of this All-Star cast of Fey-alistic ne'er-do-wells, Kim Harrison brings the Hollows back to life once more. This time with riveting action, intense drama and a few unexpected twist and turns. Each page leads to "just five more minutes" then "ok, just one more chapter." And before you know it, you've stayed up half the night just to get to the next scene.
I was completely captivated once again. Delighted to see the addition of a few unknowns and am stoked and waiting impatiently to see where the next storyline takes us. Please, please, Ms. Harrison, don't make us wait so long.

Kim Harrison always writes a wonderful book. I enjoyed this one maybe more than any of the others in the series. I like that Rachel seems to be growing up a bit and is learning her lessons with a little less than the hard way. I was glad to read about more of her mother because I enjoy her character. I was also glad to see a resolution of many topics such as her and Ivy (to a degree), Rachel's marks, what she really is and more history on her father. I read these books because they always greatly entertain me and that to me is the whole reason to read. To be entertained and carried away. This series never fails.

I have read and loved all the books by Kim Harrison(Pam Cook). I was given the complete audio book set for 'The Hollows' and have truly enjoyed them... up to this one. For some reason, someone decided to change from Marguerite Gavin to Gigi Bermingham as the Narrator. If you've read the series and are just listening to them like I do.... skip this book.... If you need to listen to this to get through.... I'd tell you go read the book instead, but if you have to listen to this horrible narration, I will warn you, you will end up wishing you skipped it after about 10-15 minutes. Her pronunciation is horrible. The voice acting she puts to the characters.... Not only can you tell she has never read the previous books, but neither have the editors, proof listeners, or Quality Control people. She just mangles the characters and changes to the way names are pronounced just curls your blood. What she does to Jenks alone will make me be sure that I NEVER buy anything else she narrates. Lucky for us fans, this is the only one she does in the series. They go back to Ms Gavin for the next book! Now they just need to take this version out back to the dumpster and recycle it because this version isn't worth the digital download let alone to the CD they burned it on.

Someone's pregnant and the father's going to surprise you...
Someone learns the identity of their parentage and it's no one you'd have expected...
Someone got a husband...
There's a new renter at Rachel, Jenks and Ivy's home...
Rachel's made a new ally...
What I love about the Hollows novels is the nonlinear progression, which is more real life than most novels. Along the way, Rachel's gathered adopted family and friends who are all involved in her business and her life. We have some new people showing up and some old friends from previous novels returning with a bigger role.
What I will say after reading six Kim Harrison novels is that I am not yet tired of the series. I'm still looking forward to the seventh and still enthusiastically recommending the stories. Ms. Harrison writes with great humor and empathy. I love the team she's built up.

It's always a pleasure to read Kim Harrison's books; you can tell she really enjoys writing. Best of all, she enjoys her characters, fleshing them out and making them seem real. Their flaws, their strengths, all come to life when you close your eyes. It's always a pleasure to read anything by Ms. Harrison, like coming home to old friends.

I love Kims Books. In her book titled, " The Outlaw Demon Wails," the plot is great. The story has a kind of Gothic style to it, filed with shady, sinister characters. Witches, Vampires, sprites, Shape shifters, the works. plenty of suspense, action and supernatural terror.
Very entertaining. A must read!

I've been listening to the last 4 Rachel Morgan's. These have been read by Marguerite Gavin. I've been extraordinarily pleased with her readings.
Gigi Bermingham does the reading of "Outlaw Demon Wails". Its disconcerting. Pronunciations are different. (Its "Piss-Carry", not "Piss-cery".) Voices are different. (Jenks does not sound like that!) Intonations in the delivery are different. I'm not happy.
Draw a circle and summon back Ms. Gavin. Please!

Loved the Book! As always Kim Harrison makes an interesting and attention grabbing novel. Unfortunately the reader of this book for the Audio version butchers the words so bad it turns me off. I cringe every time she makes yet another mispronunciation. It really detracts from the great story line and very interesting characters. It's been a big downer. Hopefully next time they will pick another reader- one who can actually read. What a concept that would be!

I loved the story line of the book. True Rachel Morgan drama. I was however very disappointed that they changed the reader of the audiobook. GiGi Bermingham is normally a good reader, but her persona of the characters is totally out of the context established by Marguerite Gavin, the original reader. GiGi also mispronounces alot of the main characters names which somewhat ruins the story. Her loud high pitched voice caused me to constantly adjust the volume on my cd player. If they don't go back to the original reader I will not continue this series. I would recommend reading the book vs the audio if you have time to read.

I had a lot of expectations for this book-and they were all met! You can read a plot overview in the other reviews - basically I am too tired to write one because I am exhausted from staying up all last night to finish this latest installment. Almost all of your questions will be answered in this volume that have been lingering from the previous books. The excitement of the book's climax alone makes this the best one yet. If I didn't know any better I would think that this is the last book in the series-it reads like one-but there are enough clifhangers at the end to keep you anxiously waiting for the next book.

This series was recommended by a friend of mine and I am so glad I took his advise. I have read the complete series in about two weeks time and I could not put them down. I am sad that I finished them. I can't wait for Hotter Than Hell to come out in June. My favorite characters are Jenks and Ivy. There are so unexpected in there reactions that it just keeps me reading to see what comes next. Jenks makes me laugh out loud and Ivy keeps the suspense going wondering how shes going to react with Rachel always getting into something. I recommend this series to anyone who just loves reading something that will make you laugh, keep you on the seat of your pants and does have some romance included.

Kim Harrison releases yet another spectacular novel in the Rachel Morgan series. This novel, the sixth of what I believe is a seven book series, ties up many of the loose ends that were left hanging in the last book while leaving a few tantalizing ones left for the next book. I hope the next book isn't the last because this series is an awesome one that is a page turner in every book. You will not be able to put this book down until you finish it.

I just finished this book. And it always surprises how much this series has grabbed onto me. I started reading this series when the second book came out (I still haven't gotten a chance to read the first book.) I thought that I would start growing tired of this series and jsut give up on reading (That happens to me with a lot of series.) But Kim's books are so well-written that I can't stop reading them. She has created such great characters that I care about a lot. And her attention to detail is really good. There are some plot twists throughout the series that I never would've seen coming. Which definitely surprised me because I can usually figure out the twists in a book way before they happen.

I have read three books on the series so far, and as far as I am concerned I liked this one the best. The first two novels were good, but I wasn't sure if I liked them enough to invest in the rest of the series. However, I found this novel hard to put down. Throughout the entire novel there was enough suspense that I kept wanting to read just a little more. The character, Rachel Morgan, endeared herself more to this reader with each new revelation. However, there were so many surprising twists and turns that I find myself hoping it won't be too long before the next installment comes out...

This book is amazing. The action started in the first ten pages and didn't stop. Kim Harrison's writing style has improved since the first book, Dead Witch Walking, the plot line twists and turns and the characters are interesting and continually developing. If you liked early Anita Blake (before the series devolved into ridiculous, senseless, boring, sex without plot) then you will love this series. Thank you Kim Harrison, bite me Laurell K. Hamilton.

Having just found the series and reading all books over two weeks I had to share my excitement at finding it. The characters, the storylines - everything about it draws you in and doesn't let go. This is definately one of my favourites. Kim Harrison has done a fabulous job at creating a world in which we can escape but still believe it's real. Can't wait for the next installment.

I stress the word "exciting" in this review. If I could have, I would have given this review a 4.5. The only reason I didn't give it a full 5.0 is that it dragged a little in the middle of the book. Other than that, however... Excitement abound! Rachel's up to it again, and by the end of this one she's just about dug herself six feet under. Many secrets are revealed in this installment, and I must say that all of them thoroughly surprised me! Ms. Harrison certainly knows how to keep me on the end of my seat.

I found this book to be as good as the second and third, which used to be my favorites. I thought this edition was original and refreshing after the blood, gore, and over-erotic content of other supernatural authors. I read it in one day and would like to re-read it.

Kim Harrison keeps it going. I avidly await her next book that continues on the theatrics of Rachel Morgan. I am always surprised that each book gets better and better with out filling page after page with sexual encounters. I was a Laurell K. Hamilton fan, but I'm tired of flipping through over half of the book to get passed all the sex, and find some of the dialogue. Don't get me wrong I love sex, but Laurell has clearly gone over the edge with it. Thanks for keeping it real Kim.

The latest peek at the life of Rachel Morgan and her friends in the Hollows is fantastic! Rachel has come a long, LOOOOOONG way from the little bit of fluff and earth witch spell slinger she was taken for the very first time we visited the Hollows.... A journey that's twisted way off the path she envisioned, but it's not all bad, either.... I'm not about to spoil anything for anyone who hasn't gotten to read it, but believe ME, it is the wildest ride yet, worth every bit of the wait!

Kim Harrison is one of those rare authors whose latest book is actually more captivating than her earlier books. The plot just keeps getting better, with twists and turns that I would never have expected when I read the first in the series (Dead Witch Walking).
The interplay between Rachel and the other characters keeps you enthralled, characters are realistic (Yes I said realistic, after all if your reading a book with pixies and vampires I would assume you wouldn't hold it against them), I'm not going to spoil the story by giving you tempting tidbits, if you want to know what happens Read the book!

I stayed up all night reading the book. If you're looking for a great read -- sit down with a cup of coffee and open up the Dead Demon Wails. Many plot twists await, several are tied up, and Rachel really changes in this book. Her desire to save others makes her bloodline a bad joke. Yes, Kim finally reveals some secrets she's kept in hiding.
I actually came onto the store to rate the book -- one of only two books I've rated with a 5 star. I don't give them out very often. I am depressed about one thing -- Kim's out on tour for the new book and I will need to wait for the next one.

This installment was about as good as the last one, which can't hold water compared to the first 4 books. I held high hopes for this one but I don't think I will revisit these books any more unless they gets back to what I loved about the first 4 books. I think all the temptation with Ivy has gone on way too long and is very annoying and redundant. Get over it and move on.

Kim Harrison's Hollows is wonderful as always. I love the setting and the characters. (My only complaint is that the stage is getting a bit crowded, and Harrison seems reluctant to let anyone fade into the background for a book or two.)
This is a very satisfying read, as many of the major plot hooks are resolved or revealed. We finally get a good look into the Ever-After and discover what the legacy left by altering Racheal's DNA. (I didn't see that twist coming, but I found it to be very interesting.) I wish that we had learned more about Kisten's death, but look forward to finding out more in the next book.

Cincinnati based bounty hunter Rachel Morgan remains in shock following the unsolved murder of her boyfriend (see FOR A FEW DEMONS MORE). She plans to solve the case, but neither her mundane hunting skills nor her witchcraft abilities have helped her achieve her objective.
Meanwhile Elf politician Trent Kalamack presses her to perform a special mission in the spiritual realm. Master vampire Rynn Cormel makes demands on her too. Finally her friend Ceri is pregnant; something that never happens to former demons unless the partner is of a certain species. Finally with her failure to track the killer, Rachel begins to doubt her witch magic rationalizing dating and living with a vampire cost her everything; though deep down she knows using demon magic even in a good cause is the probable reason as the means never validates the end. Mom and Rachel's pixy partner Jenks help her cope with the mortal and paranormal crisis tossed at her.
The latest Hollows fantasy is an exciting entry as Rachel is facing a series of calamities in her usual amusing sexual innuendo manner. The story line is filled with several subplots in which none stand out as prime yet coherently come together centering on her investigating the homicide while the demands of the paranormal leave the heroine without a respite. Although lacking the dramatic climax of the previous stunner (Kim Harrison will have a difficult time topping the end of FOR A FEW DEMONS MORE), fans will enjoy Rachel's escapades as THE OUTLAW DEMON WAILS is an entertaining tale.

I was going crazy waiting for this book to come out in paperback. I finished the last book a month ago and didn't want to pay for the hardback. Each book in the series gets bettet and better but this one blew my mind I Could Not Stop Reading It. THE OUTLAW DEMON WAILS vs. WHERE DEMONS DARE
I think I waited approx 7 months for this new novel to be released, so you can imagine my excitement when I got the call to collect the brand new release of yet another fun filled episode of Rachael Morgan and her butt kicking team in the hollows in the new title "The Outlaw Demon Wails" only to have a wave of disappointment crash around me when I realised I had already read this book.

I've read just about all of the SciFi/Fantasy authors of the last century and I'm sad to say that this author, though popular apparantly with the pop crowd, misses the mark. I mean, this is a NY times Bestseller. Really..? The book is readable but resembles a fantasy "Reality TV" show. Why must all new books these days have the characters all having sexual confusion, gender idenity roles issues. I did read this book out of order but I'll bet in 10 years this series will be combined in "3 books in one" editions. Save your money.

Kim Harrison's series is terrific and this one does not disappoint. The new narrator made this a difficult listen though. She does an awful job with the story. The mispronounced words, high pitched childish use of a voice for Jenks, making Rachel come off as a squealing high school girl and missing Ivy completely really disappointed me. I'll never understand why a company has one narrator for a series of books then suddenly changes. I know each narrator has their own style but you'd think they or the company would do a better job of matching them up. I want Ms. Gavin back!!!!!!!!!!!!

I picked up this sad excuse for a novel (my stomach turns to even mention that word in this review) at a hotel used book store. The store was chock full of what tourists pick up at the airports and leave behind. I picked it up having never heard of Kim Harrison, costing me $2. I decided that the plot may have been interesting enough to keep me occupied during a 4 hour flight after a two hour layover. So I started it five minutes into my flight and had to put it down after the first ten pages. Then after landing and waiting on the tarmac for four hours (thanks IAD) I tried reading another ten pages and couldn't.
Kim Harrison is a terrible author. That said, you could find more reputable high school fan fiction filth with more prose than this despicable drudgery. [...] Those young kids have more sense than Ms. Harrison when it comes to literary knowledge. I am no scholar but even after the simile "like Snow White" I gagged and put down the book.
The first thing you learn in how to write a decent story is to learn that you never tell a reader anything. YOU SHOW THEM!!
I wasted more time on this review than she did on literary devices or actual writing. God help those people who gave this 5 stars.

If you read the first two books you've read them all. Granted I have not read 3, 4 or 5 but after reading number 6 and seeing that it is exactly the same as 1 and 2 I'll bet you a hundred buck 3, 4 and five are repeats as well.
Turns out only one year has passed in 6 books! So the characters are static. Rachal and her buds never growup or outward. They never learn much from their mistakes. There isn't time too.
And Ms. Harrison, give the blood lust a break. Man oh man.
Every time Ivy makes an appearance Harrison goes into overdrive discribing her barely under control blood lust and sexual lust for Rachal and Rachals paralyzing fear and confliction regarding same. It's juvenile . We don't need constant reminding. Just padding out the word/page count are we Ms. Harrison?
Same with Rachals dead boyfriend Kisten. Any contact with any male Rachal has in this book brings up comparisons to Kisten. Hey, we get it she misses him (tho she only actually knew him for a few months so how realistically could she miss him). She feels bad about his death (that I can very well understand) but Ms. harrison has her endlessly pining. Again stop wasting our time over an over with it. STOP PADDING!
It's all the same story. Demon after Rachal. Rachal being conflicted, being stupid, living in constant fear.....lucking out.

Although I know many people may disagree with me but, I think that Rachel and Ivy would be great together. Rachel loves her more than she realises and I think that she is scared about her feelings because, this is something new for her. Ivy will love her no matter what and she will always stand in her corner and let her make her own decisions even when she doesn't agree. Marshall is a nice guy but I doubt that he will ever accept the lifestyle that Rachel has or the the job that is constantly putting her in danger.
