To give you some idea of how much I enjoyed this book, I bought the second one in the series when I was only one-third of the way into this one. Action, character development, plot - all great. Keeps moving along , makes you wonder what's happening next. Extra material is included at the end which fills in gaps, unknowns, in the main story. Many thanks to the author for that. Starting the next one in the series as soon as I put a period on this sentence.

Couldn't really get into this one like some other books, but it was okay. I mean it had things going to be really good but it was confusing at times, and I ended up hating almost all of the characters except Violet. The plot was straight forward and enjoyable, but was slow at times. And I wish the author would describe things a little better, for example the fish bowl. Otherwise this book is worth reading and I would recommend it to anyone who wants a simple story.

Okay, if I had enough money to make a movie... I shouldn't even have to say it, but I want, ever so badly, for The Creepy Hollow Trilogy to be made into movies. I know, just know, that if more teens liked reading, and came across this book, it would become a best-seller in no time. Well, that, and if it were out in print somewhere in America. I rate it high above the Twilight saga, without a second thought. I even rate it higher than the Hunger Games, and Beautiful Creatures, all of which are popular in the US, for some reason. I disagree with this, though, because, truth be told, out of the last fifty e-books I've read, at least five of them have been more fluent and original. All this series needs in a spark, and it'll be noticed. With it's betrayal, romance, action, suspense, and character, this is without a doubt the best series I've read in a long time, if not ever.

I'm just reading my way through a number of 4+ star books searching for another great find, but sadly this was not it. It's an ok read with a slightly strange story line, but it does drag on a little and with the author up to number 5 with more to come, I think I will move on thanks.

This book had a great premise, great idea, yet was let down with the details.

All I'm going to say is, the key component could have been dealt with in a way that didn't have me shrieking 'HARRY POTTER'.
I'm very disappointed and unimpressed.
Maybe a few re-writes, and one paragraph in particular which is extremely similar to Harry Potter, could be adjusted and this could be an entertaining read.
As it is; disappointing.

I think I may be in the minority here when I say that although I enjoyed the book, I didn't love it. I wouldn't reread it, but as a start to the series, it was fascinating. It reminded me a lot of Harry Potter, although it was a darker story-line.

The book started out immensely enjoyable. The main character, Violet, is out on an assignment when she meets Nate, the human boy she's been sent to protect. Something goes wrong. Nate can see her although she's glamoured. Worse yet, he follows her into the Fae realm, endangering both their lives.

But somewhere along the way, it lost its magic. When I was over halfway through, though, it picked back up. It got exponentially more interesting, and I was startled by some plot twists that I never saw coming. I sped through that last half, found myself quite intrigued with the sudden changes, and finished it with the thought that I really want to read book number two, The Faerie Prince.

The main character is Violet Fairdale, a faerie that's training to become a Guardian. I can't tell if I'm annoyed with Violet's character, or that I'm not totally giving her a chance. As someone who has spent her whole life following the rules of the Guild, she sure threw all of that away in a quick instant. All because of some human boy. I could understand it, if I thought of it in the way that Violet was finally doing something she wants for a change. After all those years of strict guidelines on how to run her life, she's defying the people who turned their backs on her. For once in her life, she's doing something freely, and she's letting herself become vulnerable.

And yet there are still some things about her personality that really grated on my nerves. She has no parents, no friends. Except for her mentor, Tora, she doesn't seem to care about anyone. All she cares about is being number one in her class, beating her nemesis and tormentor, Ryn, and becoming a Guardian. Even when she was starting to care for Nate, it still didn't seem more important to her than becoming the best. She acts like she doesn't care about what people think, but it's all she cares about. That, and becoming a guardian. But as the story went on, Violet showed growth as a character, especially after a very shocking and horrible twist that leaves her wounded and heartbroken.

I wasn't sold on the romance. It sort of felt a little like insta-love. And even more so because Violet isn't the type of woman who just puts her Guardian career in jeopardy for a boy she hasn't known more than a few days. Or is she? That confused me. Her personality was sort of up and down. I also wasn't in love with Nate. Yes, he was funny and nice, but other than that, he didn't really have much of a personality. Now I know why I didn't like him very much to begin with, and now I know why I didn't like the romance between them.

The fantastical elements of the story were nicely written. I liked the idea of this Faerie realm being separate from the human world. Yet these Guardians still protect the humans from out of control creatures like goblins, pixies, and other grotesquely inhabitants of the Faerie realm. I would've loved more detailed descriptions of the faerie world and all of these different creatures, though. What's a reptiscilla, a urisk? The author threw out words and never explained them, never explained what these creatures were and what they looked like. It left so much to the imagination. With it being in the fantasy genre, it didn't make any sense to me to leave out details that could create vivid images to help the readers understand the world that the main characters live in. It was missing that creative imagery.

The writing style itself drew me in, and the way the author used Violet's voice to tell the story was nicely done.

Overall, I was pleasantly surprised with the book. The last half of the story really saved it for me, and it left me wondering what's going to happen next.

The Faerie Guardian is a rip-roaring adventure story that pummels along at break neck speed, taking you from one high octane action scene to another. Despite the non-stop action. Morgan manages to create her world skillfully making the "rules" of it known without long drawn out pages of information.

Our heroine, Violet (Vi), is a guardian in training, due to finish at the top of her class, when a human assignment grabs hold of her and follows her along the faerie paths to her home realm Creepy Hollow. The journey should have killed him, no human can travel the paths and survive, and the first mystery starts to unfold. Ordered to escort the human, Nathaniel (Nate), back to his home nothing goes smoothly for them on the journey. Their adventure draws them close together and the lonely orphaned Vi finds herself drawn back to Nate over and over, despite the fact that humans are not meant to know about the faerie's existence (cue my adult self rolling her eyes and thinking "then don't go back then"). Nate is shrouded in mystery himself and Vi can't help her curiosity in helping him solve them.

With several twists and turns the plot is reasonably complex with puzzle pieces dropping thick and fast from the pages of each chapter to create a rich and exciting plot. The ending wraps up a lot of things nicely while still leaving lingering questions that make me burn with desire for the next book.

The writing is clear and the numerous action scenes brilliantly done so that you can clearly visualize who is where and when (this is something not all writers can manage e.g. I love Maria V Snyder's writing style and story-lines but whenever someone is having a battle I get hopelessly lost). There are some actual surprising twists and the romance between Vi and Nate is not the clear cut YA "well of course if we get together the world will end, but our hormones are raging so we will battle against the laws of nature and win and live happily ever after", there's actually a bit more to it than that. Also, the romance is a selling point and drives a lot of the plot forward but it isn't all the book is about so its still a great read boys and girls alike. Vi also examines her feelings for Nate with a clear eye. At one point her internal monologue talks us through how she knows she doesn't love him YET, but she probably will do, stating lack of time spent together and not knowing him well enough to make a declaration that big. I really applauded this attitude and thought to myself "ha - so there you go Bella Swan and Clary Fray, you need to get a grip of your hormone sodden selves!"

A solid start to a series. The pacing and style makes this great for fans of Percy Jackson.

I got this book to read on audiobook. The audiobook was decently done but not wonderful. The main heroine has a very chirpy voice which doesn’t match her character all that well. Additionally a lot of the male voices sounded similar (particularly Nate and Ryn).

I really didn’t like the beginning of this book. The story was just too simple and too silly; the beginning is all about Nate following Vi into faerie and getting her into trouble and the chaos that follows when she tries to get him back home. I thought Nate was incredibly unlikable; he came across as selfish and chauvinistic and I truly did not understand what a strong girl like Vi saw in him. I almost stopped listening to this a couple hours in because I just could not stand Nate.

The book got a lot better in the second half when Vi starts to unravel the mystery around Nate’s mom and the strange eye tattoo Nate ends up with. Here we get introduced to a lot more of the politics in Faerie and the story gets tons more interesting. Also Nate gets a lot less page space and Ryn gets a lot more (I loved Ryn).

I absolutely loved Ryn’s character and really loved the dynamic him and Vi had going on. Ryn comes off as a jerk early on, but as you learn the complicated history between him and Vi things get more and more interesting.

In the second half of the book there is a also a lot more discussion about powerful magic items and a plot to collect them and this was very engaging.

The action scenes are well done and I enjoyed most of the characters (except for Nate). In the end this ended up being a decent book despite the rough start.

Overall an okay read that has a lot of fae magic, romance, and action. I would recommend to those who enjoy paranormal YA reads. The book started rough but got better towards the end. I am unsure if I will continue with the series or not; I’ll have to think about it a bit.

A truly magical read, this book takes us into a unique world of magic. A world where it is the responsibility of the faeries to protect the human world from dangerous magical creatures. When Violet, on the verge of becoming a guardian is out trying to protect a human boy from a creature, she finds that he can somehow see through her glamour. When she returns to the Fae realm, she finds that he has somehow followed her there. Now it is up to her to return him home and make him forget everything that he has seen or knows.

Even though Violet knows all the rules, she faces some trials on the way and add to the mix the cuteness of the human boy and behold a fantastic read. The author has written this story really well and the magic will tightly envelope the reader and draw them in. What should be but a simple task turns out into one filled with danger and unexpected twists. I loved the concept and plot of this story and recommend this to all magic lovers! This proves to be a truly wonderful read and is quite enjoyable.

As I was reading the beginning of The Faerie Guardian I was inwardly groaning because it seemed so predictable like the stereotypical fantasy story. The faerie girl, Violet, starts to fall in love with the human boy, Nate which is a big no-no in the faerie world. And then Nate turns out to be a half-ling as they find out secrets about his biological mother (don’t worry this isn’t a big spoiler). But as I kept on reading the story redeems itself with impressive action scenes, satisfying character development, and amazing fantasy aspects.

Violet is a main protagonist that appeals to readers and though she starts off with a “always follow the rules” mindset, she eventually starts to loosen up and follow her heart. She also shows that under all the confidence she constantly radiates she’s still afraid of making mistakes and being vulnerable. She tries to do her best and aspires to be a great guardian like her parents were.

On a side note, I thought Nate’s misconception of how faeries look and act to be very funny. It kinda mirrors our “human thinking” in expecting all fairies to be tiny little pixies like Tinkerbell.

One of the downsides to the novel is that story’s ending comes to a abrupt stop without it being an actual cliffhanger. The story never really comes to a close and is left open-ended making you second guess if you at the end of the book. It left me feeling a little confused.

This is the first book I have read by Rachel Morgan and it was a good read. I would classify it definitely has young adult. It is the story of Vi and Ren Faerie Guardians as well as Nat who is from the human world. Faerie Guardians spend their lives protecting those that need to be protected from evil. Vi and Ren are in their last years of training. Nat was one of Vi's assignments.

It was supposed to be a simple assignment but never say simple - things got way out of hand and thus began a path that had lots of twists and turns and evil always lurking in the background.

I found the characters to be real with cockiness, faults, and intelligence. The story takes place for the most part in the faerie world and the world is described in wonderful detail by Ms. Morgan. The reader can visualize everything that is happening.

I am looking forward to reading the next book, The Faerie Prince>

AH! I love love faeries! I do, I’ve read book after book, YA, NA, all genres about them, because the fair folk are so interesting, and there’s just so much you can do in that world, so many doors to open, and I have to say Rachel Morgan blew me away. I picked up the novella teaser, on my own actually and starting reading it, and when the author submitted the full book for review, I jumped on it!  Morgan does an outstanding job crafting a new fae world, and really pulls you into it. How inconvenient is it when mortals can see right through fae glamour! God, I hate that! ;)
But Nate, the boy Violet was protecting is one of those mortals and ends up following her into the Fae realm, and BAM we’ve got a story. We’ve got a boy, and a girl, and a bunch of Fae drama, what isn’t to love? She’s got such a darker plot riding underneath the general boy and girl from two worlds fall in love (but honestly, who doesn’t love a two worlds love story?) There’s evil that is involved, and it’s making everything much harder for Violet, and keeps her with Nate longer then she wanted to be.
But beyond my gushing, I felt like violet was such a vibrant, strong character, and really was able to keep me on my toes. She did unexpected things, and didn’t apologize for who she is. She’s strong, and that’s both saving grace and downfall. I would highly recommend this book. Fae lovers out there, check this out, you won’t regret it! I’ve read the mainstream fae books, and indie ones, I’ve seen the TV shows and movies, and I promise this one stacks up right next to those Big Name authors out on the shelves at B&N! Great read!

I love fantasy books and I love Fae fantasy even more, so joining a blog tour where faeries were involved was kind of a no brainer for me. This was a pretty fast read for me as I enjoyed the plot and pretty much read it in my every spare moment.

The writing was good, but simple. No big, crazy words or anything. I wish there had been more description of the faerie realm, but I guess we received enough information about it to get through the book and that's what's important.

Besides a bit of foul language, this book felt a little young for me. I LOVE young adult books, but even though the characters were older, I sometimes felt as though the simple plot and dialogue were geared toward a younger audience, like middle grade. Not a major problem at all. Just an observation.

I thought Violet was a pretty fun and kick ass faerie to read about. Though filled with tons of magic and a really cool secret power, she was just like your average teenaged girl. Full of drama. Enter Nate, the human she gets entangled with and multiply the usual drama by infinity. Won't say too much about Nate, 'cause he didn't really tickle my fancy, though there are some interesting plot twists involving him. Ryn, the "bad boy" of the book, did. Young or old, I like 'em "bad". I really liked how despite him and Vi being enemies for years, he became a bigger part of the storyline as the book rolled on. And then when we find out why they're enemies, well that was just awesome. Really liked that part.

Like I said, there are a few intriguing plot twists that happen in this book, and that epilogue really got me thinking about a few things. Nate's at the center of it all, though Violet is still the central character and extremely important to the storyline. I'm really interested in seeing what's going to happen next and I hope that I get more Ryn in The Faerie Prince. This book ended on a bittersweet note, and I'm anxious to see how Vi works through everything that happened. Overall, a good first book in the series that I would recommend to readers who enjoy faeries as much as I do :D

This book was enchanting, exciting and kicked ass!

Vi was brilliant. I love strong female protagonists and she took it to a whole new level. Her determination may have landed her in hot water on more than one occasion, but it was that determination that saw her unravel a master plot by some particularly vile creatures. Although the final end to their evil plans is still to be uncovered, Zell and his minions were definitely up to no good, and I'm excited to see where that will lead.

This story was action-packed from start to finish, with a great sense of mystery surrounding Nate. It was also romantic, with a bit of forbidden love thrown into the mix. There were quite a few twists and turns, and some very heartbreaking surprises, which kept me enthralled. My heart went out to Vi when she was betrayed by the one person she actually felt something for, but I was also happy that she was able to gain back a bit of the friendship she had lost so many years before.

Morgan's world building and descriptive prose brought this book to life and I felt like I was actually stepping into Creepy Hollow, walking alongside the characters as this story played like a movie in my head. It was a spectacular read and I cannot wait to continue with this series.

This is the first book in the Creepy Hollow series. It is also the introduction of the main character, Violet, of the first trilogy. Violet is a Fae guardian in training and in her last mission she finds a human boy,Nate, that can actually see her and to top that he somehow manages to come with her to the Fae world where no humans are allowed. After that a crazy adventure begins, saving kids, discovering Nate's past and Violets own history in the Fae world are only part of it.

When I think of this book one thing comes to mind: non-stop action. Vi gets into so many adventures/troubles and has to fight her way through them. She is so kick-ass, I truly found her the perfect MC. Also, I fell in love with Ryn, her nemesis, he started out as a simple-minded jackass but ended up being my favourite character of the book.

My only issue was with Nate, Vi's love interest. I found his character a bit simple. I could not, for the life of me, figure out what Vi saw in him, especially since she was pretty awesome herself. I hope we get to see more of him in the future and maybe see another side to his character because so far he's been a bit one dimensional.

So, if you are up for a wild Fae ride, with a lot of magic and crazy situations, like a labyrinth and a Masquerade ball you are in for a treat. Also, I listened to the audiobook for this one and it was great, the narrator did an amazing job.

3.5 stars. It's a cute story.

Likes:
* Fast-paced story mixing fairy magic and "technology"
* Violet Fairdale seems like a spunky, capable guardian trainee (but she doesn't seem very good at her job, since she often doesn't think of obvious things, is captured more than once, breaks the first and second guardian rule, doesn't seem to be very observant, and even her fighting skills need work)
* Tara, Violet's young mentor is firm, but friendly
* Nate sounds adorable and he can see through her glamour which implied he's a halfling
* Pretty book cover
* Vi living in a tree
* Bonus chapters from Ryn and Nate's POV
* Shapeshifter
* More than one story line - romance, missing children, runaway mother, rival students, hunted by bad fairies
* Violet not understanding modern teen slang
* Violet's stylus, not to be confused with a wand

Dislikes:
* Ryn, Violet's annoying nemesis was cruel at times
* Reed being dead, I think I would've liked his character
* Lots of references to dead family members and friends
* Violet continuously breaking rules (ala Holly Short from Artemis Fowl) but Vi was supposed to be top of her class, not a rebel
* Vi charging into situations instead of planning or getting help
* Betrayal
* Constant states of undress - shirtless or partially clothed or in underwear or just a towel
* Violet's stalker-ish popping in Nate's bedroom unannounced
* Nate's mother
* Scarlett and Fell weren't very well developed bad guys
* Once again, teen lust is supposed to be true love

I received this book in exchange for an honest review. The Faerie Guardian is book #1 on the Creepy Hollow series.

Ok, so I’ve read other Rachel Morgan’s books and completely love them of course. Those were romance stories, but any way when I saw that she has written YA fantasy I couldn’t stop myself!

And thank god I didn’t do it (stop myself that is) because this book is awesome. Like “Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, The Hunger Games, Divergent, The Maze Runner” level of awesomeness.

Even so that while I was reading it I was thinking how much money do I need to get this whole series to all my friends, because I’m sure they will love it. And this book definitely needs and deserves more fans.

THE STORY

Violet Fairdale is the top trainee of her guardian class, with just a few weeks until graduation. But her latest assignment didn’t turn out as good as it’s supposed to. Breaking the number one rule of the Guild will be just the beginning of a spiral down situation.

Getting suspended, risking expulsion, facing a nemesis everyday all while trying to discover an old mystery and saving faeries that are being kidnap, won’t be an easy job for a single faerie.

MY THOUGHTS

I love this so so much, I’m not really into high fantasy books but this is just simply amazing.

All the creatures that are the same but so differently written and the magic is so great but not over the top.

The characters are cool and interesting, the bad ones maybe not so bad and the good ones not so good at all. But my favorite have to be Fili OMG a want a pet like that, able to shift into different animal forms.

This is the kind of book that honestly deserves to be a movie and would totally be a hit. It just need more spreading to let the world fall in love with its awesomeness. Not that it is completely unknown, The Faerie Guardian is already on IFlist and you can support it and help spread the love.

A must read if you are into young adult, fantasy and amazing books. Xo

For some reason, I have a soft spot when it comes to faeries. Probably because when I was younger, I was intrigued by their history, and finding out more about them nearly became an obsession at one point. Now, every time I come across a fiction novel about faeries, and it has an original premise, I jump at the chance to read it. Personally, I think Rachel Morgan has created a wonderful and original faerie world, and THE FAERIE GUARDIAN is a great start to what might be an epic series.

Violet, or Vi to her friends, is training to become a guardian, a sort of police for the faeries. Guarding humans and fae beings alike, a guardian’s purpose is to either chase away or kill their mark, although Vi much prefers not to kill anyone. When she is assigned to protect Nate, a young boy, she’s surprised he can see past her glamour, something humans are not supposed to be able to do. She breaks the two biggest faerie rules by letting Nate see her, and inadvertently bringing him into Creepy Hollow. The mystery that is Nate, almost becomes an obsession for her, not only because he’s good looking, but something curious is unfolding in Nate’s life.

What’s amazing is how many bad guys we encounter throughout the book. I think it’s what’s most appealing about THE FAERIE GUARDIAN. You really don’t know who the main antagonist is and they keep coming at Vi and Nate for one reason or another. Whether it’s a duo kidnapping Nate, a centaur chasing them in faerie Underground, Nate’s supposed mother that attacks Vi for some odd and unknown reason or another duo tracking Nate with a strange eye tattoo on his back, they keep coming at our protagonists, even if they are more or less in the dark about what’s really going on. It’s the mystery and the intrigue that keeps this book going and the fast pace of the story is definitively an advantage. It’s paced so fast, sometime I wish that author might have slowed down a little and described her faerie world, just a little bit more. Sometimes it’s those little extra thing that makes a book “exceptional”, rather than “very good”, and this book lacked a bit of it.

The banter between the characters is also pretty amazing. Vi is a high-spirited character and when you throw in Nate that is curious about everything and likes to talk, you get some pretty great conversations. I especially liked this one exchange, which came early in the book when Vi and Nate first met.

------------------------
“You can’t be a faerie. You’re way too big.”

I lower my hands. “Excuse me?” I’ve been called many things in my seventeen years, but ‘big’ has never been one of them. Quite the opposite, in fact.

“Aren’t faeries supposed to be, like, really tiny? With wings and a wand and faerie dust?”

“I’m not Tinker Bell!”
------------------------

A character that I’m not sure what to make of is Ryn. As fellow student guardians, Vi and Ryn are competing to be the best of their graduating class and their feud has them squabble throughout the book. Their rivalry is really fun to read, and you keep wondering if there’s something more than feud behind their bickering.

For a self-published book, I’m really satisfied with THE FAERIE GUARDIAN. It doesn’t read like a self-published book because it’s very well written, well edited and the flow of the book is quite perfect. I haven’t read the other two books of the trilogy so I can’t speak for the whole series, but if the rest of the books are as stunning as this one, I’m anticipating an epic continuation and conclusion. I really enjoyed reading this introduction to Morgan’s faerie world, and I’m looking forward to reading the rest of the series. So many things happened in this story that I can’t wait to see how it all unfolds.

Listen when you open a book with a crazy battle with a snake like demon thing in someones bedroom and then hop right into a faerie world....you know you are going to go for a good ride. I felt like this story went from zero to sixty in four words and never let off the gas! Violet Fairdale, or Vi, is about to become LEGENDARY in the Guild as a guardian, until that boy with a magnetic pull steps foot into her world were the penalty for letting it happen is high. What I didn't expect was all the twist and turns that end up happening and all the mystery that is about to be uncovered that affects everything that Vi thought she knew about her world.

Vi was pretty awesome. I love a good snark in a girl and she definitely had it throughout the story. She was strong, smart and super driven which all make a great independent female lead. The fact that a human boy could crack her warrior shell was something that even I wasn't sure could seem real at first, in fact I thought it was going to end up feeling forced, but I was proven very wrong by the author. The way these two connect actually turned out very organic and the sparks you could feel coming off the page. You add in her former best friend....turned enemy....that may just be back on her side again and all the things that she learned about the people around her and the relationships Vi has with all these people created a great story to sit in this world.

This world is also something that I really liked about this read. It was well thought out from the environment surrounding the characters to the social structure of the fae to the enemies that they have to face. Everything about this book was described well and you really got a sense about what was going on and where it was taking place. With lots of action, some sweet romance and a whole lot of betrayal going on around her, Vi puts most female heroes to shame!- My Opinion- **** 4 Stars!

P.S. I don't normally say anything like this in a review, but this cover was gorgeous!

It has been three days since I started this book, and in those three days I have read two thirds of this trilogy. I was so ensnared by the story that when I finished this first book I waited all of five minutes before buying the second one. After I finished the second one it took a good half hour of arguing with myself (and one Facebook post) about not having the time to continue with this story right now before I bought the third book. Which I have already started and am now exerting vast amounts of willpower to write this review instead of reading.

I guess you could say I am enjoying the story.

It would be more accurate to say that I am completely consumed by this story. It has magic, action, adventure, intrigue, friendship, and romance - everything I could ever want in a book.

The protagonist, Violet, is a teenaged faerie in her final term of training to be a guardian, which is a sort of fae version of the FBI. While on a trainee assignment in the human realm she gets unwittingly involved in a multi-leveled political plot that is decades in the making. There is spying and spies, combat and battles, recon missions and rescue missions, all while Violet is living the life of the teenager that she is with school, boys, and a home life.

The Faerie Guardian - and the other two in the same series - is very well written. Violet is extremely likable and while I cannot see myself in her, she is the kind of person I wished to be while in high school. She is a fierce fighter, incredibly intelligent, and completely disregards the shallowness of the school social scene.

Explaining the many differences between the fae realm and our own human realm could be a daunting task for an author but Rachel Morgan handles this task with admirable skill. Even explaining Violet's home life, her lack of parents, her unidentified pet, and all of the little things that are unique to fae life are done without obvious explanation to the reader. It is this cleverness in writing, along with the personable characters and an intriguing storyline that have me raving so much about this book.

I generally steer clear of YA books because they can be silly and simple, but other than the age of the main characters and the lack of explicit sex, I wouldn't pigeonhole The Faerie Guardian in the YA section. It could easily hold its own in the fantasy and paranormal sections.

I am shocked this book has so many positive reviews, my only suspicion is that clearly these people have never read a good book before. The story is very cheesy, almost like a copy cat of 20 other books complied into one. Do not waste your time.

I have conflicting feelings about this book thus far, which I feel I should put out there.
It's not at all that I'm not a fan of fantasy. I am. It's not that the premise was bad- it's not. In fact, I was sold by the back and the stellar reviews... And again; it's not that the book is... Bad... It's just not great. I was prepared for something like this to happen when the e-book came free, and I am fairly disappointing besides. I feel like this book could have just been done better, and maybe I'm being too hard on the book, but if it weren't for the fact I am hoping for it to level out in chapter 5 so I can give it a better review- I'd have put it down long ago. The book is faced pace, and I feel like it would have been handled better had it been taken slowly than it was.

For starters- The characters are very one-dimensional. Let's look at Violet, or "Vi" our protagonist. Violet wants to graduate top-of-her-class as a guardian, and (as the back of the book states) but so far her past has been... Relatively predictable in it's tradgedy, and seems relatively unaffected by all of it. I get it she's not human, but... It makes her unrelatable but more so boring. Alright we get it. You're nothing short of a strong independent woman with a stint for Nate and it gives you the warm fuzzies... That it? Okay.
Nate, the second major character thus-far is a lovable, if not equally predictable teenage boy, who seems to have a really hard time grasping the idea and gravity of the situation, even four chapters into the book. I know he acts as a foil to Vi, and resembles the part of her that she's missing, but it becomes so repetitive to where he is just as stagnant as Vi. Yes, I know you're curious about the jewelry your protector is carrying- but can you get out of the life-or-death situation first?
Next is Oryn, who I've only seen a sliver of thus-far. Oryn is Vi's school rival, and so far there isn't a huge elaboration on his relationship with Vi, but he seems to be the stereotypical roguish character. A smart-mouth, a jerk, and quite possibly attractive.
Then, we have Tora, the headmaster figure who... Kind of looses it for Vi who I just find completely contradictory. It's established that Nate (a human) normally wouldn't be able to travel the same way Vi went. Tora, the headmaster, should know this yes? No, she goes off on Vi until the obvious problem is pointed out, at which case at the end of the conversation Tora assures Vi she is the best trainee the guild has seen? What? Sorry, lady pick one side or the other. Either Vi did something wrong and it was her fault, or it wasn't her fault and you still have a big problem.

I get where Morgan wanted to go; she wanted the characters to be shrouded in Mystery, however she kept the pace too fast for it to work, and hasn't really given a good reasoning behind the big mystery. I feel like if what I have read so far was handled differently by Morgan, It'd be much better, but I can't say for sure.

I won't continue for sanity's sake, and let you evaluate on your own. This book of the series is free-to-read if you have a kindle, I can't suggest this to anyone who doesn't have a kindle because so far I don't feel like this book is worth it. Regardless; if you're interested in the premise and have a kindle, have at it! I won't stop you! Maybe you'll love it, but for now- I've still yet to connect with anything thus-far.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book.

Rachel is very clever with her writing. Every time I thought I had worked something out, she added a twist and just kept me hooked!
I loved the way this book was written because it doesn't drift off or get boring where you find yourself skipping segments. Rachel gets to the point but not so abruptly that you don't enjoy it. She kept my attention hooked the whole way to the very end and then left me wanting to read more.

Violet is such a strong character and it is so nice to read about a girl who is strong and who I felt HAS confidence. She is so relatable and I find myself seeing some of myself in her. I love how as you got further in, you learnt more about her.
I love all the aspects to Rachel's characters. You think you know someone but then Rachel dives in deeper and you learn more. Everyone is unique and not boring.

Fantastic imagery and so easy to see her faerie world.
If you love faeries, fantasy, butt-kicking action and being kept on your toes, then read this!

* Pretty book cover
* Vi living in a tree
* Bonus chapters from Ryn and Nate's POV
* Shapeshifter

* Betrayal
* Constant states of undress - shirtless or partially clothed or in underwear or just a towel
* Violet's stalker-ish popping in Nate's bedroom unannounced
* Nate's mother
* Scarlett and Fell weren't very well developed bad guys
* Once again, teen lust is supposed to be true love

(Disclaimer: I received a free copy of the book from the author in exchange for an honest review.)
Violet Fairdale is a faerie in training to be a guardian, in fact, she's on her way to being the best guardian at the Guild, until an assignment goes bad. By the time Violet is done withe serpent woman, the cute boy she'd been admiring upon arrival has woken up and for some reason he can see through her magic. When Violet tries to get away, escaping back to Creepy Hollow within the Faerie Realm, the boy grabs her arm and follows. Having broken Guild Law, she has to face the consequences, returning the human Nate to his home and erasing his memory. But, they have to take the long way, fearing he won't survive the Faerie paths-a journey that will be far more complicated than planned.

I loved Rachel Morgan's use of Faerie lore and imagination full of magic, sprites, pixies, faeries with unpredictable motivations, complicated family relations, and inconvenient romances. Faeries aren't little, winged creatures, but human sized mortal beings with an arsenal of magic, wit, and crazy potions. Please remember if visiting the fae realm:
"Do not stand on the mushrooms," I [Violet] tell him. "They don't like it." Rachel Morgan, The Faerie Guardian

At first, the relationships in the novel are typically YA. Violet is a snarky but motivated and kick-ass chick who wants to be the best until her feelings for Nate challenge her desires, and having no dating experience, she has a hard time understanding her developing attachment. At school, she receives animosity from her biggest competition, Ryn. And at home, she's all alone, because her parents are dead. The story progresses deeper, as insights into each character are revealed, relationships unfold and change that isn't as predictable.

I enjoyed Rachel's writing and the flow of the story. There was no waiting to be pulled in as Violet tried to deal with the human she unwillingly (at least at first) has on her hands. There were a few predictable aspects, but nothing major enough not to make the story an engrossing read.

My verdict: It was still a little too YA for me, but that was the intent, so I can't demerit it. If you like fae and YA fantasy, I highly recommend it.

I received a free copy of this book from the author through Goodreads We ♥ YA Books! group in exchange for an unbiased review. I also received The Faerie Prince (Creepy Hollow, #2).
I was very pleasantly surprised by this ARR book - the ones I've read in the past haven't been nearly this good; Book 2 is even more delicious.
Imagine a Harry Potter world but instead of witches and wizards we have human-like faeries (much nicer than your normal evil/prankster Fae). Instead of Aurors we have Guardians. Instead of Hogwarts along with its enchantments we have Creepy Hollow and the Guild. Instead of Orphan Harry we have Orphan Violet. We even have a shapeshifting pet in lieu of an owl. And yes, there's a bad guy (gal?) trying for world dominance; complete with Horcrux-like objects.
Not that this is a bad thing. You might not even have noticed the similarities. If you liked the Harry Potter series for its plot, you will probably like this one. The writing isn't quite as fabulous, but still pretty good. Rowling's subtext/deeper themes don't seem to be present either. Even so, the story line is full of action, some romance, plus some good twists. All around entertaining!
Book 2 has just come out and Book 3 is due out later in 2013. It's already on my definitely to-read list.

I love books on magic and the supernatural. This one makes me feel blessed to be able to read it. I felt as if I was looking and interacting with the characters. I have a tendency to get lost in a good book. This was one of them and I enjoyed it immensely. I felt as I interacted with the characters. Get to know them and you too will become ensconced in the story. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

I really enjoyed this book! I like the magic and the fantasy...it had a bit of a Harry Potter feel. I can't wait to finish the series and see how it all plays out! I have read a couple of other books by this author and so far have really enjoyed her writing. Without causing any spoilers I have to say I enjoyed the ending of this book even though it left you hanging a bit. I liked that there was some resolve with V and Ryn, and I like where I think things are going to go from here. Maybe I will be in for a surprise though :). This is a clean read and might be classified as a Young Adult but I think it's great for any age who enjoy a bit of magic!!

The Faerie Guardian tells the story of Violet, the perfect guardian trainee that ends up messing up an assignment by accidently bringing a human boy into the faerie world. The plot of the book develops from there and gets more complex and the story develops.
The Faerie Guardian really surprised me. From the beginning, I thought it was setting itself up to be a Violet and Nate story and I was okay with that. Halfway through the book I noticed that was I was getting was better than that, it was a story about Violet’s journey to deal with the events in her past and present.
Violet and Nate’s banter is entertaining and their relationship develops nicely, if a bit fast, but something in my gut made me distrustful of him from the beginning and my gut was right. I won’t elaborate more on it to make this review spoiler-free. Get reading, if you want to know more!
Ryn is very annoying from the start and his reasons for hating Violet are a bit unreasonable but he starts growing a bit on you by the end of the book. I’m really looking forward to reading the next book and finding out what happens next on Violet’s journey.
Overall, this book was very fast-paced and action-packed got me coming back for more. Personally, I could have done with a small prologue with some kind of background information on the bigger story behind the faeries with special powers or something like that, but it was still a very good read.

I really enjoyed the world that is created by this author. I am very upset that Violet only had Nate for a short time but am also curious as to where the relationship is going with Ryn. I think once they get over the issue of his dead brother they vould be really good together. I am eager to read the next book in the series to find out exactly what Zell is trying to do by getting all the special faeries together. And I woud really klike to find out who the spy in the Guild is. I am assuming it will end up being at least one of the people Violet trusted most.

Rachel Morgan is one of my favourite self-published authors. Actually, she is probably my number one favourite - or ties with Tammara Webber. I just finished re-reading The Faerie Guardian (TFG) so that the story was fresh in my mind before reading The Faerie Prince, and I think I dug TFG even more the second time around. Violet has got to be one of the most awesome female protagonists currently gracing the pages of young-adult fiction. She's as kick-ass as Katniss (from The Hunger Games) but much funnier. Her inability to deal with complex emotions is portrayed really well through humour.

QUOTE: I tilt my head back and let out a groan. Counseling. That thing where I have to discuss my feelings about killing someone. Great. The list of things I'm not good at is pretty short, but discussing feelings is probably at the top.

Whlie I'm on the topic of humour, my favourite element of TFG would have to be the verbal sparring between Violet and her nemesis, Ryn. Their banter made me laugh so many times.

QUOTE:
Ryn: "You're not the kind of person to just randomly fall in love. You're way too..."
My eyes shoot to his. "Too what?"
"Well, you know, emotionally closed off."
"I will emotionally close off every orifice in your face if you don't shut up about this right now."
He laughs. "That doesn't even make sense."

I also enjoyed the creative descriptions of elements of the Fae realm, which are interspersed throughout the story. Here's one of my favourites:

QUOTE:
I stomp around the edge of a clearing where giant mushrooms are swelling as they soak up the silvery glow of the moon. "Do not stand on the mushrooms," I tell him. "They don't like it." And the last thing I need is for him to show up at the Guild covered in poisonous goop.
An eerie howl vibrates through the air, rustling the leaves above us and causing a nest of tiny airhorses to take flight and disappear into the night.

I want to talk more about Nate and Ryn but I'm afraid of unintentional spoilers. Let's just say they're both fascinating, and as their characters develop throughout the story, I found myself feeling completely differently about both of them in different ways - there's more to them than meets the eye.

The pace of TFG never lets up, so if you're like me, you'll tear through the pages of this sizeable novel quite quickly. A word of warning - don't expect a resolution at the end. No, all plot lines are left wide open. Thankfully, the next book, The Faerie Prince, has just been released so we can move on straight away and find out what happens next - I'm going to start it tonight!

Right now, I just feel like going fangirl over this book. What can I say? ohmyfreakinggoodnessIloveit!! Ahhhh! It is such an incredible book!!!!! Seriously, go buy this book right now, drop what you are doing, and read it!!!

Every page keeps you guessing. You feel for every character in there. The guy you thought was an enemy? Yeah no, I love him! The guy you originally fall for? Yeah no, he's a jerk! (Well at least this is what you are led to believe) :D Rachel Morgan is a fantastic author. This is her calling, no doubt. The way she weaves the story keeps you falling in love with every page!

I seriously LOVE this book. The characters are in depth, real, lovable, and you just can't get enough.
The writing is amazing. The entire book is just beautiful.
The story is fresh, exciting, there are no cliche's! Everything is wonderful. I haven't bee this in love with book in a long time!

And I can tell you, I plan on buying every book Rachel Morgan writes.

The Faerie Guardian, is going on my wonderful shelf of all -time favorites!

Fascinating, fun reading, with romance, action, adventure, unexpected twists, interesting characters that become more fascinating as details of their back stories are revealed, and battle between evil and good. Extremely well written with excellent plot development and well-drawn characters. Must criticize the author for making it so "have-to-turn-the page-to-see-what-comes-next" that I got very little sleep last night--just kept reading the book. I literally couldn't put it down. Applause!

I was pleasantly surprised by The Faerie Guardian. Not going to lie - the cover and the premise had me set up for a light read with more typical faeries than deep characters. Luckily for me and for you, I was wrong. There is so much more to this novel than first meets the eye.

So Violet is a faerie guardian trainee in her last year, top of her class. She goes out on assignment and protects this human boy from a threat. Unfortunately, she manages to bring him back with her to Creepy Hollow, the faerie world where humans are not allowed. Also, he’s not supposed to survive the trip there. Anyway, Violet falls for this human (called Nate) and they fall in insta-love, which I’m not such a fan of. However, things get complicated, and Violet isn’t all right about Nate. He’s not just human after all, and their relationship gets super rocky. I love it when insta-love just doesn’t work out. MUAHAHAHA.

Violet is a strong female protagonist without a lot to lose except the position as top student in her graduating class. She fights well with anything, and prefers the crossbow and longbow any day. I love her because she totally questions her motives around Nate, and she knows what has to be done when things go wrong.

Violet also has this rival named Oryn, or Ryn for short. They’ve got a past together, but neither one can stand the other at this point. Ryn is super annoying until about 3/4 into the book, and I just want to put duct tape over his mouth and hope he shuts up. In the last quarter of the book I could hug him forever cause he’s just so sad. I’m totally rooting for ViRyn by the way. Tortured souls can always get the girl. Always.

There’s a big plot brewing under the surface, but The Faerie Guardian focuses a lot on the exchanges between characters and how their lives are affected. I can’t wait to read the next part and see where Vi, Nate and Ryn end up.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was so easy to connect to the different characters. I really enjoyed the main character, Violet. I found her to be extremely relatable and likeable. I won't go into details about the book because I don't want to give anything away but if you are a fan of YA and fantasy and if you're tired of reading about vampires (it seems as if every book has a vampire these days) then this book is for you. There is the perfect amount of twists and turns and drama and the ending....what can I say? The ending was perfect! I especially liked the bonus content after the fact. I wondered what happened to Nate that he couldn't remember himself. I wondered what happened at Ryn's house that we weren't previously privy to. And now I know. I can't wait to read the next book in this series, The Faerie Prince (Creepy Hollow, #2). I will be picking that up first thing in the morning. Thank you for the fantastic read Rachel Morgan :)

I loved this book by Rachel Morgan. I had already read her other series- The Trouble Series- so it took me a little bit to get lost in this book. But once I did, I didn't want to put it down. I'm not a typical fantasy reader- but found myself easily engrossed in this story!

Violet takes her job seriously- she must protect others. She is training to be a faerie guardian and follow in the footsteps of her late parents. Although issues start to arise once a human, Nate, travels into the faerie realm. Violet tries to put the pieces of the puzzle together and finds herself in dangerous situations multiple times. Will her life ever be able to get back on track?

Wow! There are few books that I would recommend with such enthusiasm (almost to the point of harassment ;) ) as I would this one. The Faerie Guardian by Rachel Morgan had me completely enchanted and I couldn't wait to read the next chapter!

Rachel Morgan has created a world filled with magic, love and betrayal, monsters and faeries, humans and halflings, along with plenty of adventure to captivate any audience. Her characters are very well thought out and relatable. Her main character, Violet, is a 17 year old Faerie Guardian trainee. She must overcome many trials, both physical and emotional, to get to where she wants to be in life.

I love that this book has love and romance in it, but that the romance isn't what the whole book is based upon. This book is full of plot twists and unexpected turns that will keep you turning pages to find out what happens next.

Overall, this book is fabulous! I will highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading, no matter what genre they prefer, because this could cover many!

First of all I want to say that I love stories about faeries and because of that I knew that I would most likely love this book. And I was right I loved it! The difference between this book and the few other books I have read about faeries is that the main character is a faerie and in the other books the main character is usually a human or a half human half faerie. I like the idea of guardian faeries that protect humans. I loved every single character in this book. The only thing I wasn't very happy about was that Nate betrayed Violet. I would really love to know Nate's side of the story. I can't wait to find out what happens next. Where's the next book? I need book #2 now!

I loved this book!! I haven't read an amazing faerie book in a while and The Faerie Guardian definitely changed that. This book took a completely different take on the faerie world that I have every read. Rachel Morgan does a great job writing the story and characters.

Violet Fairdale is training to become a guardian and there is nothing more important to her then becoming a guardian and staying at the top of her class. That is until her human assignment Nate follows Violet back to the faerie realm and now Violet has to take him back to the human world. But spending time with Nate and learning what he really is will turn Violets world upside down.

The Faerie Guardian will keep you guessing with plenty of action and a little bit of romance. This book is a definite must read and I cannot wait to read the second book in the series.

"The Faerie Guardian" started off on the wrong foot with me. It's not really the fault of the book or the author. I mean, I'm the one with the thing against first person/present tense presentation. But it is first/present, and I couldn't stop myself from groaning inwardly when I started reading it. And this example is pretty typical of the stuff I've read using first/present, so it did nothing to distinguish itself for me. But, you know, I get that that style is popular, right now, so I can hardly fault the author for choosing the style. I'm just not into it.

So the main character is a "fairie" girl, and I say "fairie" because she's just like a human teenager down to the pop culture references that, as far as I can tell, she shouldn't have knowledge of. In fact, she seems more conversant in pop culture than she does in the culture of her own people. In fact, in her narration she refers to other fairies as "fairies," as in "the fairie stood there," which would be like me saying, "the human stood there," which is not a thing I would ever say nor have I ever heard any human say. Awkward. All of that to say that I had a hard time buying the protagonist as anything more than a human teenager with some convenient magic. And that doesn't even touch that the purple-haired fairie is named Violet.

The other main issue I had with the story also started right up front along with the first/present stuff. Violet is in a boy's room to guard him from a snake fairie thing, and, of course, she sees him sleeping. And, of course, she is smitten by him just from watching him sleeping. Maybe this is just a disconnect because I'm a guy, but the whole romance angle seemed more contrived than realistic to me. There was just no reason for it and it felt out-of-character to for Violet to react that way. I mean, there's no indication that she has a habit of instantly falling in love with sleeping boys, so I need something more from the story than that she arbitrarily had feelings for this one boy because she saw him asleep.

From a technical standpoint, the book was fine, and I can see why people like it (and based on the other reviews, I see that most people do like it); it just didn't appeal to me. The writing is fine. It's well edited. But it's not my story. This is one of those where I can see that it's (probably) good, but I don't like it. For this one, I'm being that guy at the party that goes over and gets a helping of whatever it is everyone is raving over, I put it in my mouth, make the yucky face, and spit it out. Everyone looks at me like I'm crazy. Eventually, like, one other person comes over and pats my arm and whispers, "I didn't like it either."

Violet Fairdale is two months away from graduation and of being the best guardian of the Guild. Guardian are to protect human and other fae alike. There are two simple rules of the Guild:

# 1 Never reveal yourself to a human
# 2 Never bring a human into the fae realm

While on an assignment, Violet manages to break both rules. Will this withhold her from being the top of the class?

I seriously just loved this book so much that I want to read this book again, again and believe it or not AGAIN.

Violet is a girl who lost a lot of people in her life, so it's really difficult for her to be close to someone, because she is afraid she'll lose them too. So having no friends and both her parents passed away, she concentrates on being the best guardian of the Guild. Being the best implies also never breaking the rules. So when she 'accidently' breaks the rules, she really is devestated and afraid of the consequences. I really could somehow relate to Violet, because of her urge to being the best and the things she thinks about. I mean that sounds weired that I can relate to a faerie huh, but it's really true. I loved the way Rachel Morgan made Violet so real, although she's a faerie and lives in the fae realm.

And then there is Nate, the boy who made Violet to brake the Guild rules. Inspite of getting Violet in trouble, she develops some feelings for him which lead to interesting scenes ;) I loved Nate's funny comments and questions when he discovers there's a whole other world besides the human world haha.

Besides Nate, there is also Ryn *instant melt* Yes I like Ryn and I'm proud of it! I love his beautifully blue eyes and his character. So Ryn is competing agianst Violet for the position in being the best guardian in het Guild. Ryn is pretty meen to Violet and there is kind of a rivalry going on between them. This has not always been there though.. Are they able to leave the past behind and move on?

Fruthermore I loved Filigree, Violet's pet. How cool would it be for your pet to shift into different animals? I just loved that part. Filigree is actually the closest friend of Violet and I love how they're treating each other ^.^

The way Rachel Morgan wrote about Creeepy Hollow, was really awesome. It wants me to be a faerie. Yes you heard me well. My name is Anna, I'm twenty two years old and I want to be a faerie! I also want a stylus, and participate in guardian training and kick some goblin's ass. I want to live in a tree and have a pool in my bathroom. So basically I want everything there is in Creepy Hollow!

So overall I really and truly loved this book. When I first read the summary I was like: guardian and faeries? Never read something like that.. So: NEED TO READ IT! And I am so happy that it met my expectations and even more! This book is definatley in my top5 series! So I'm going to give you the best advise you have ever had: read this book! While you do that I'm going to get the book and read it over and over agian, 'till I know the book by heart!

This YA fantasy gives the feeling of a Harry Potter adventure, but different. It takes place in a very rich world where faerie guardians watch over humans and others to protect them from the antics of the underworld and night creatures. Violet is a 17 year old guardian in training. She sometimes stretches the boundaries of what she's allowed to do, which of course, gets her in all kinds of trouble! The Faerie Guardian is a fun, fast-paced read, and the first of a series. Highly recommend!

I am so glad that Rachel contacted me to read her book! I was orginally sold on the title, I mean... Faeries.. yes please, but then the series is called Creepy Hollow... um, even more YES! I even mentioned it to my husband, and he said the title was suiting to something I would read. (And isn't the cover pretty? not too much detail but bright and fun, right?) Anyway enough of my rambling... the book....

I started reading it at 2 am when I couldn't sleep and could not put it down! I was amazed at the story telling; it was fast paced, entertaining, witty, and even swoon-worthy at times. Rachel's characters were fun to follow and Violet, the main character, is sarcastic and strong and is a force to be reckoned with -- everything I love in a female lead.

The synopsis gives you a pretty good example of the first half of the book, but the second half gets much more intense as characters develop and the plot gets more depth. The story-line has many layers and while it can be a little challenging to keep up with all the various characters that are involved, they are a pleasure to read about (even if they are evil and annoying). The descriptions of the settings and action scenes were more than I could have hoped for, they were so detailed I felt like I could be watching a movie. I was super impressed.

I think that my only struggle with reading this book was Violet's internal struggle through the first half; she is strong and top of her class, and begins to take a lot of risks that don't seem like her...it was difficult for me to understand these drastic changes in character personalities. I mean, yea there was a boy involved, but sometimes this got a bit annoying. A bit of insta-love, but overall in the plot it works, the beginning when we don't know the characters all that well yet was a bit weird.

Overall, I am a huge fan and can't wait to read more.

Let me begin by saying, I LOVED THIS BOOK!! I was hooked from the very beginning. This was a new type of book for me to get to read. Fairies, halflings, and trolls-Oh My. Violet Is a young trainee in the fae realm, fighting for the top position against her most hated rival, her old childhood friend, Ryn. During trainings Violet is given assignments to help protect the human world from magical creatures. However, an assignment goes terribly wrong and she finds herself falling in love with the very human she was trying to protect.

This book was so full of surprises, twists, turns, and kept me hooked. I was on the edge of my seat, during the entire story, turning each page as fast as I could to find out what happens next. I can't wait to read the other books in this series.

Vi is a faerie guardian in training, but her skills are put to the test when a routine assignment goes wrong: a human boy can not only see her, but follows her home. Not such a bad predicament? Ah, that's only the beginning. Enter an evil villain who turns out to be a lot smarter than than initially expected (and/or hoped), mysteries from the past, and a kick-butt heroine, and you'll barely be able to catch your breath.

The story quickly drew me in. I'll admit that a few times it was so fast paced that I kinda figured if the main character, Violet, had had--oh, I don't know, enough time for a twenty minute shower--she might have figured out things that were relatively clear to me. There was also a little character inconsistency on her part that did bother me: for someone who was completely centered on being the top of her class, she is pretty easily convinced to break a law...and then go on breaking it again and again and again and then go beyond even that...you catch my drift. You do understand why she did it, but it didn't feel fully convincing to me. Still, it wasn't enough to take away from the enjoyment of the story as a whole.

The story is set up in three parts, reflecting the initial novella serial that preceded this volume. As such, each third of the book has it's own twist and turns / story arc and climax or cliffhanger--though, thankfully, the very end was not a cliffhanger! A fun read, with some deeper themes (forgiveness, trust & betrayal) that make it well worth the time it will take for you to rip through this.

Thank you Rachel Morgan for providing me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Voilet is a Faerie. She is also Guardian in-training. Training to protect Humans and Faeries if need be from Fae threats. She is also driven to be the best in her glass. She intends to win the top spot in her graduating class. However, all of her hopes and priorities get turned around when she violates the two highest rules while protecting a human from a Fae threat. Nate, her assignment not only sees her but he follows her back to the Fae realm.

At first, I wasn't sure I was going to like this book. The start felt very bubble gum, almost middle grade especially with names like Creepy Hollow for the Fae area they live in. I started reading, but felt like it was going to be a chore and so I found myself avoiding it because of that feeling. When I finally bit the bullet and read it I was pleasantly surprised to find in spite of the start, the characters and the story grew into something more.

I wasn't super fond of Violet, she is single minded and sort of annoyed me at times, but she did grow on me. I loved Nate and even Violet's rival, Ryn, held a certain fascination. I wanted to get to know him more. Lucky for me, in book two I get the chance.

There is a bit of a Harry Potter feel to this story, but at the same time it's enough of it's own story that it didn't bother me and very few stories are ever going to feel totally unique and not have similarities with another. Especially when you read a lot.

I enjoyed this book and by the end I was really glad that book two had been provided also for an honest review because I was anxious to read on and find out what happens to Violet, Nate and Ryn.

Applause!

I like the story and got totally into it. The first book has us meeting Violet and the guardians. I liked her independent nature and her desire to be the best ever. It was a sweet book to read and made me wonder why I don’t read this genre more often. Okay so she breaks rule number one but I am sure she can fix it. Violet seems young and doesn’t quite think things through before acting. Overall the book felt like it was geared to a young audience. It is a book I would let my young teen granddaughter read. I totally want that bow and arrow!!

I almost DNFed this book. I was around that part where Violet was delving into some sort of relationship with Nate and I just thought that everything was happening too fast between them to warrant such feelings that I had to stop at the utter ridiculousness of it.

I put off reading the rest of it for weeks and weeks because if that ridiculousness continued then I would be forced to find a replacement for my iPad. However, there were a number of reviews I've seen of the later books in the series that rated four to five stars and where they expressed their excitement about them. I then wondered whether things get better... because of course I sometimes have this insane criterion of judging a book by its romance aspect.

And I did get to finish the rest of the book although I had to start at the beginning and suffer through the Nate phase again before dealing with the betrayal. It stung of course but I also made a sigh of relief that the Nate stuff was over and Violet concentrated on her becoming an exemplary guardian trainee so she could graduate on top. When Ryn fully came into play then I made a bigger sigh of relief because I could feel the tension in the air...

Rachel Morgan, it was a quite a good book and I enjoyed the fae culture you've woven in this story, so much so that I am already three-fourths in the sequel, The Faerie Prince and I like it even better than the first one.

Okay guys, seriously, that cover is super attractive. But what's even better is that the story is as good as the cover! No matter how hard it is, I will try to not fan girl in this review. This book is seriously 100% top notch, incredible, excellent, breathtaking, and whatever awesome-sauce adjectives you could think of! I'm not really a fan of fairies and such, in fact, the only fairy stuff that I know is Tinker Bell lol. So at first I had my doubts whether to say yes to the author or not. I checked Goodreads and it had nothing but positive reviews so I was like "why not"! And I was NOT disappointed with The Faerie Guardian. I stayed up 3 in the morning reading this piece of perfection. It was very well written, with a 1st person point of view (Violet's) and the world of faeries was explained and described perfectly that you feel like you're part of their world.

In the world of Creepy Hollow, where faeries lived, the faeries has these assignments (a task) to do assigned by their mentor. Their goal is to save a creature, whether a faerie or human, basically someone who needs help. If they do an excellent job on their assignments, their rankings go up. Just like school, they graduate after 4 years. They are basically trainees being trained to be a guardian.

The main character is Violet (my favorite color)! Yes, she wears a purple outfit and has violet streaks on her black hair which I thought was super cool. I've always wanted to dip my hair in purple. Anyways, she is such a kick-ass heroine! She's witty, brave, smart, wise, sarcastic, you know, just a perfect heroine! There's something more to her character, more than just your typical "faerie" which I'm not going to say because I think it's a spoiler.

One night, and this is actually where the book starts, she was given an assignment in the human world. Her task was to get this creature (I forgot what it was called :| ) out of Nate's room (I think he's the same age as Violet, it didn't really say). Unfortunately, he woke up and saw her. When Violet was going back to Creepy Hollow, Nate decided to follow her and that's where their adventure starts. I can't really mention a lot about Nate because it would spoil everything. I swear guys, this book is just unpredictable and you'll keep guessing!

There is also another important character which is Ryn, Violet's used-to-be-childhood-best-friend until his brother, Reed, died. He's a faerie and he's actually competing Violet in the rankings. He enjoys teasing Violet, calling her "pixie sticks" which is an insult to her lol. He's funny, and a kick-ass faerie just like Violet. If you think the book's going to be revolved around Nate and Violet, well HELL NO, there is more to it which hella-surprised me and gave my mouth a big-O like this :O. Everything intertwines with one another and was just perfect! I have no idea how many times I used the word "perfect" in this review, but I mean it.

I just love this book so so so much and recommend it to everyone! There was an insta-love with Nate and Violet, but I see the purpose of why that was relevant. Although there were a few stuff that didn't have a conclusion, and was left hanging, I think it's reasonable because it would ache the readers to read the next book. Super great job to Rachel Morgan, oh gosh, when I finished this book I wanted to cry because I finished it. I literally want the 2nd book in my hands right now! Did I mention the BONUS FEATURES? Yeah I didn't, well I'm mentioning it right now. It's like the deleted scenes in a movie. WELL, AFTER YOUR READ THIS POST, GET OUT OF HERE AND BUY THE FAERIE GUARDIAN!

*I have received a free copy of this book from the author for review purposes. It did not influence my opinion whatsoever.*

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! To be honest, I found the beginning a little slow but Nate's betrayal kicked the story into hyperdrive and that's when I become really engrossed!
Rachel has also managed to capture the 17-year-old perspective. The dialogue is very "teenish" which validates the characters, rather than being annoying. A fantastic debut novel... Moving on to book 2 now!

From the very first sentence you are pulled into this fantastical world full of magic, intrigue, action and faeries. Your journey starts as you follow the main character, Violet Fairdale, on just another one of her many assignments as a Guardian-in-training. Hoping to stay at the top of her class, Violet, is always on her toes, everything strategically planned as she begins her mission to save another human from a rogue faerie. Everything goes according to plan, the bad guy gets taken down and the human remains safe, that is until something not quite expected happens, the human can see her! Follow Violet on this journey alongside the human, Nate, as they unravel the mysteries that coincidentally tie these two individuals from different worlds together. A definite must-read!

E-book copy received from author

Awesomesauce! I was recently told by an author that my review of her book was `awesomesauce', and I've been waiting for the opportunity to use it, and here it's presented itself! I loved this imaginative, well put together and entertaining book. What really, really pleases me is the fact this is the second South African author who has impressed me.

The last fantasy book I read was over a year ago, and strangely enough a word in each title is very similar. Meant to be? Truth be told this cover, first and foremost, caught my eye immediately. I hadn't as yet even read the blurb and wanted the book on the cover alone. Really. Moving on. Once I read the blurb, I thought it sounded really cool. This all came about when I saw it on another author's blog and if I'm this interested, I query. From there she contacted the author. Ms. Morgan was happy for me to receive a copy and I was happy to review it. It's what I do.

`The FaerieGuardian' starts off innocently enough. Violet or Vi (I love this name) is a faerie training to be a faerie guardian. On one particular mission and one involving a boy (Nate) who is cuter than most, she must protect him against what evil's been sent to harm him and then leave. Simple enough really as this is what faeries/faerie guardians do. Everything goes according to plan except... when it's time for her to `dissappear'. Using her stylus she quickly draws a door on the wall and steps through. Upon reaching the other side, she finds she's not alone. This human boy somehow went through the door with her! How's this possible? Humans can't travel the faerie paths - they'll die. Clearly, Nate is fine. Not only is he fine, not only did he witness what took place in his room, but he also has no problem seeing through Vi's glamour. Why? How? Is there an explanation for this?

Vi is not in a good place after this incident, and could very well lose her ranking due to possible expulsion by the Guild. What doesn't help matters though, is the fact that her once close friend Oryn (Ryn) has turned into an absolute arsehole, and one who revels in calling her Pixie Sticks in reference to her legs. Infuriating! I'm sure she'd love to bop him one on the nose and mind you, during training she shows him exactly what she's made of. Super stuff. She's given a vial, which she must somehow get Nate to take assuring everything he's witnessed is erased, without his knowledge of course. She must do this and return him home. She can't seem to go through with it, because, well, he's cute and she has feelings for him and he's become like... her boyfriend. Teenage love!

This story is about so much more than just Vi and Nate's feelings, which at one point heads south. I loved the world building - this fae realm - one so gorgeous, I'd love to live there myself. It would most definitely take me away from the ugliness of this real world we live in. Not that all is perfect within it as that would be boring, and nothing about this book is boring in the least. The underground world is not as pretty for obvious reasons; a place some have managed to infiltrate, but a place where you might stay forever should you not be clever enough, or have the required resources to get out. Vi and Nate came face to face with ogres, goblins and trolls. You follow Vi and the others through their training rituals where skills are practiced against one another, boy or girl. You'll also find yourself inside Vi's head quite a lot - a place where debates are continuous and one which manages to always propel Vi forward by way of her heart instead of her head. It's a learning curve though, and she's nothing if not tough and funny to boot. This is not your typical `fairy' book, all Tinker Bell like. The protagonist is female, but wait - she's got a stylus, magic - and kick-ass moves! An interesting aspect given to a number of fae including Vi, is that each have a particular skill either in the form of showing others what one is thinking, to being able to find someone who is missing.

From the first page `The Faerie Guardian' grabbed my attention. Nate though, after some time, came across as too young. For some reason, he seemed naive at times, as opposed to not only Vi but all the characters. In my mind, I kept seeing Vi simply snapping her fingers and he'd do her bidding. Maybe he'll change in the next book - I don't know, but I look forward to finding out, because he/something in him has changed. If I'm honest, I think Ryn had a lot to do with my feelings towards Nate. Chalk and cheese these two, but this is the way it should be. There has to be someone we favour over another. However, this made it interesting, the story veered in a different direction and became even more intriguing.

The backstory concerning Vi and Ryn is quite sad and heart wrenching, you'll know why once you've read it. And really, read it! Sigh, I've carved a soft spot for Ryn. As far as I'm concerned, Ryn is the perfect match for Vi. These two fit like a glove. The banter between them is at most times hilarious. They share some poignant history, and I would not be surprised if something more develops after the baggage they were carrying was opened, ruffled through and sorted out. I love Vi; she's a strong female character, full of attitude and despite her obvious errors, gives as good as she gets - if not more. This is apparent when evil comes knocking. This is also where, although not yet a guardian, she shows what she's made of and uses every ounce of training ability she's ever learnt. Girl power at it's finest.

'The Faerie Guardian' rocked, and another to add to your Christmas stocking!

Vi's got attitude by the bucket load, something I absolutely loved. Her comebacks? Laugh out loud moments for me. Here are two:

"Ugh." I clench my fists so tightly I can feel my nails digging into my skin. "It's magic you moron."
He looks at me and frowns. "There's no such thing as magic."
"Well, you probably think there's no such thing as faeries either, and yet here I am." -Vi to Nate

"So you don't have wings then?" he asks, completely ignoring what I just said.
"Sure I do, they're in my pocket."
"Really?"
"No!" -Vi & Nate

So, I bought a 10 novel eBook pack on the store for pretty cheap and this was one of them so I didn't expect much from it and thought the store just put a bunch of bad books together in an attempt to sell them.

Boy was I wrong! I was completely absorbed in this book the moment I began reading it. I fell in love with Violet and all the characters in Creepy Hollow. I've always liked fairies and anything related to magic and fantasy so this book was definitely right up my alley and fulfilled anything I could have wanted in a story.

I loved that Rachel included "modern technology" to make it relate able to younger readers, such as the magical amber used to text each other in the fae realm. The fighting scenes were incredibly vivid and I could feel my heart pound during each one. Violet's love life will make you want to be a teenager again! I finished the entire series in less than a week and found myself waking up in the middle of the night to continue reading. My husband thought I was crazy but I just couldn't keep away from it!!

I don't want to spoil anything, but I would absolutely recommend this book. If you like magical stories with hot people and lots of enchanted fighting, then you must read this!!!

Rachel is a very talented storyteller and I'm looking forward to reading more of her work!

OMG I felt in love with this book. I can't wait to get the next one. This book is amazing it got romance, action and different creatures. This book have me on the edge of my sit waiting to see what would happen and the more you read the more you want to know was going around with all this characters. I recommend this book to you. If you like paranormal books you gonna like this one. When you think about fairies of course you think it would be girly but believe me this is not girly at all. So give it a try and I'm pretty sure you gonna get addicted to the book.

This is my first foray into fantasy since reading Harry Potter and I was very pleasantly surprised by this little story. Being a fan of endearing characters, I was immediately drawn to Violet Fairdale. A good-hearted warrior with a tough exterior.
The innocent romance that develops between her and Nate is very heart-warming and will take any reader back to their adolescent years, where we are reminded of the pangs of our first love. Then there is Ryn, whom at first I didn't care much for but then as the story draws to a close, I get to know him a little better and find out depths of who he really is which actually contradicts my first impression of him.
It is a fantastic little tale in a world that is skilfully described by the author and provides a vivid picture for the reader; I also loved the constant sarcastic banter between Ryn and Violet. I am giving Mrs Morgan 4 stars for her story because it has all the elements of a good fantasy and I loved how she develops her characters at a rate that keeps the reader turning pages. The quality of the writing is top notch because it reads very easily and her prose flows beautifully. The only draw-back for me is the length of the story, it seems like the pages ran out before the end.

Faeries, you say? More faeries? I know, I know. The YA market has become quite saturated with Faeries and Fairies (and any other spelling you can think of ) - especially since the success of Julie Kagawa's Iron Fey series. So, what makes this series different and worth reading? A few things: an original take on human/faerie interaction, amazing world-building, entertaining dialogue and a kick-ass female main character to start.

In this faerie world, humans are strictly forbidden. They are never to know anything about Faerie. Of course, there are the baddies who want to take advantage of humans, or maybe eat them for dinner, but that's where the Guardians come in. Guardians are an elite group of Faeries who are trained to fight their darker counterparts and protect humans. They use glamour to hide themselves from us. I thought this take on Faerie was unique. Usually faeries - light and dark both - are all about taking advantage of humans in whatever way they can. I found it refreshing that in this world, there are faeries who want to protect us.

The world was also unique. The fae live mostly like humans do but things we do with technology, they do with magic. They create light with magic, they have "sound drops" that play music into your ears when you stick them to your temples, they even have modern conveniences like bathrooms - with a magical twist:

I jump off the bed and join him at the doorway to the bathing room. He peers in at what looks like a slice of nature. Grass grows naturally, and a pool fills the center of the room. Scattered amongst the blades of grass are hundreds of tiny blue and yellow flowers. Trees with tangled branches conceal the walls, and water tumbles down a pile of rocks and into the other side of the pool.

"You are kidding me, " says Nate. "You have a pool in your bathroom?"

"The bath idea never really took off," I say. "Self-cleaning pools have been in for centuries. And the mini-waterfall provides an excellent shower."

It's details like these that make me really fall in love with not only the story, but the world it is set in.

Violet, or Vi, is a faerie training to be a Guardian. Nate happens to be an assignment. After fighting off a baddie, she realizes that Nate can see through her glamour. She tries to high-tail it out of there but Nate hitches a ride with her to Creepy Hollow, the faerie world. So, now Vi is in trouble! She has broken the first and most important rule of Faerie - no humans allowed! As part of her punishment, she is tasked with protecting this human boy while escorting him back to the human world. This is where the action starts. I'm not going to tell you more than that because I don't want to ruin it for you. Suffice it to say that there's quite a bit of action.

I loved the interactions between Nate and Violet at the beginning of the book. I laughed out loud in a couple of parts and snickered at others. The author did a really great job of writing Nate as a human who learns that magic and faeries are real. He has all these misconceptions based on fairy tales and movies and that makes for some great dialogue.

"No way," he says, rustling the leaves as he stands. "You can't be a faerie. You're way too big."

I lower my hands. "Excuse me?" I've been called many things in my seventeen years, but 'big' has never been one of them...

"Aren't faeries supposed to be, like, really tiny? With wings and a wand and faerie dust?"

"I'm not Tinker Bell!" ....

"So you don't have wings then?" he asks, completely ignoring what I just said.

"Sure I do, they're in my pocket."

"Really?"

"No!"

Of course, Nate and Violet end up an item. This is actually the part that almost lost me. Anyone who has read this blog before knows that I am not a fan of insta-love and Nate and Violet walk a very fine line there. There is no big declaration of love, no declaration that they are soul mates, but things develop a little too quickly for my taste.

I really enjoyed the storyline and thought the pacing was good. There was a point somewhere towards the middle of the book where it almost seemed like I was reading a different book about the same characters. I can't say more without giving anything away but that was a little jarring for me. This book was originally published as four separate novellas so this makes sense to some extent. We go from romance with Nate and Vi to no Nate and backstory with Ryn instead. Later on, things became more clear and I could see how things fit together but while reading there was definitely a little bit of a disconnect between the plotlines. Generally, this book moved along quickly and was very entertaining.

My favorite thing about this book was the main character, Violet. She is a strong heroine both physically and mentally. She has a smart mouth and is funny. She works hard to be the best at what she does. She is dedicated to her work and to the people she cares about. At the same time, she still has vulnerabilities and insecurities that make her a believable character. I enjoyed reading from Violet's perspective and watching her question and grow along the way.

Overall, I very much enjoyed this one. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys a good fairy tale, fans of fantasy and especially fans of Julie Kagawa and her Iron Fey series. This was an original take on the Fae and I can't wait to read more!

P.S. I'm Team Ryn!

Note: I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for my review. All opinions are honest and 100% my own.

This book started out slow for me because it went so fast, if that makes sense. Within the first two pages we've got our main characters meeting and falling into the world of fae. I guess I'm used to getting to know my characters before anything drastic happens. That had me less interested in what they were doing until I did learn more. But, getting past that, we do learn about the characters as they do things, which isn't terrible... again just unusual for me. Most of the book worked this way. By the end I think I enjoyed it enough, especially after Ryn and Violet's backstory became clearer, though it still wasn't a big favorite for me. 3 stars.

Great story. I wasn't sure I was going to like this book but I took a chance anyway. I'm glad I did as I really enjoyed it. So much so that I've been a faithful reader of the series ever since. The characters are well developed, the story line is well thought out everything just flows.

I received a free copy I this book in exchange for and honest review.

I really enjoyed this story. I'm not really a big fan if fairies, but I found the world created in this story to be ver user friendly and entertaining.

There's lots of magic and fighting and cool new names of magic beings. I really liked the fairy homes and the way they got around through the paths.

I found the pop culture comments made by humans misunderstood by fairies to be wholly amusing. I could totally imagine the look of utter confusion on their face.

The main character if Violet took me a little bit to get acquainted with but he totally grew on me really quick. She has a difficult back story but it helps you understand how she is the way she is.

I also like that the characters seem real. Real in the sense of their conversations. They had banter and love and heartbreak but all with natural progressions and questions.

I really enjoyed this book, and definitely never saw the twist in part 3 happening. Holy moly that's a doozy!

Definitely check this world out. Awesome, fun read!
