But UGH, I didn't want it to end. A very realistic scenario except that our current President wouldn't be such a wimp. I sure like that there is at least one prepared Prepper in the family so there is hope still if the mom doesn't go into denial for too long. Can't wait for the next book. Write fast! LOL!

Engaging characters! Can’t wait to get to know them better. The psychic brother was a great twist. At only 68 (?) pages, I wouldn’t call this a book. I’m looking forward to reading more of the story.

Is a good read with great characters and I always love her books. My only complaint is that with this one I feel cheated. Only 68 pages which means that the one great book is being broken down into 3 or 4 small so so books and with the long wait time I'll lose interest and not finish the series. The characters really are good and Will has premonitions that you know aren't good and Cam wants to meet his dad and Elliott is ready for anything. Throw in Carly and you could have a great book if you finished it in one book in stead of breaking it down like this.

This by far is the best story line but even more important than the story line the author has been able to make this a practice book for someone wanting to get prepared for this crisis or for the end of life as we know it. While it may not be North Korea it is almost a 100 percent lock that someone will attack us using emp attack and I doubt our government will be prepared. This unfortunately is going to be at some point reality and even if you are prepared the chances of survival will not be good. But the author has done wonderful job at giving a novice a glimpse into what life will be like and how to prepare to give you and your family a fighting chance at survival

I loved this story, or what I consider to be the very tip of the beginning of a story. I didn’t realize until I bought it how short it was. I would prefer to wait until there is a full length novel before I get started only to have the story suddenly end. That being said, this author writes in a real, believable way with real life people and relationships. I’m looking forward to the next installment but hope it is full book length.

Please, use words that make sense. Profanity makes no sense, yes people curse but who wants to read it. Does It make more of a statement?, does profanity clarify, uplift, give an imagery no. It just lets the world know that potty mouth thinks profane. The everyday busy things makes this realistic, people shopping because of the weather , will be so glad.

One of the things I really liked was Glaspy's humor, which came through in the interactions between the characters. I thought it came across as natural and believable, which is rather rare. I found myself chuckling and really enjoying the characters. I also found the storyline to be pretty good, though I did find the sections of the 'bad guys' activities a bit awkward and felt like they almost seemed as if they didn't flow with the rest of the book. Overall though, a really good read. I look forward to the next book!

I eagerly got this book through Kindle Unlimited and started reading it right away. The prose flowed well and the dialogue between characters seemed realistic and believable. But the book was over much too soon! When I realized I'd reached the end of the book, I realized it was only 82 pages long - just enough to tease the story, in my opinion, but too short to really deliver anything satisfying.

It took me a little over an hour to read this. That is too short. The emp didn't happen until the end of the book so basically it was just a family getting ready for the holidays. The characters are cliches and the writing was overly descriptive, who care what boots she wore to the grocery store. Ill read the next one but I won't have a lot of hope for it.

Like the series so far, but still get angry when an author begins a series that has multiple average 200 page installments. If this wasn’t available free with the store Prime, which is well worth the subscription, I wouldn’t have taken a chance on reading this series. If the author increases the pages of each n the series 2 make it worth my hard earned money, then I would gladly purchase her work & pay extra. She is a good story-spinner otherwise. That’s why I only took away one star.

This was a great start to a series. The writing is really good and far less errors than many other books in the genre. There is no actual disaster until close to the end but a lot of character development leading up to it. I'm one that has to connect to and like characters to enjoy PA books and this one does that well. I like the mother, her sons, her parents and her father-in-law. I'm invested now and want them to survive what is coming. I hope the next book is out soon!

first::the person who complained about the shortness of the book should have known it was short when she saw the very low price. Second:I thought the book was great..I am a retired R>N> after working for 43 y3ars. Sorry to say i believe the woman is the home maker and the man the provider. this story could very well happen. I have red many books in my 80 years. Honey if this is your first book you did one fantastic job on this book. keep up the good work. Ebbie

Borrowed on Kindle Unlimited. Complete enjoyed the first installment of the adventure. This family are typical Americans living the typical lives and completely unprepared for anything. A snow storm has them scrabbling. No mention of neighbors or close family friends at this point in the story. But you do get a good introduction to family and extended family. Looking forward the next book.

This was my first book by P A Glaspy and I really enjoyed it! The writing is smooth, the interaction and chatting between characters flows in normal rhythms. I liked that this story is about everyday people facing unknown, life changing events.
I wanted it to be longer! Thank goodness there are more books to the story!

The story was good - I liked the upbeat teasing in the family, although it was just shy of being over the top and into phony. The story line is presented believably and I did enjoy the “book.” Although, I must say that 77 pages is not a “book” to me. That is a short story and this one ends suddenly - just warning you.

I have been reading a lot of these post apocalypse stories but I have to say this one annoyed and intrigued me. Annoyed because these are normal people acting like normal people, intrigued because I really want to see what these dummies do next! I guess that's the mark of a good story weaver.

A truly captivating story,I couldn't put it down until I finished the story. pA GLadly did an awesome job with describing the characters and their feelings. The characters came to life with lots of feelings and emotions. I highly recommend this book to anyone wanting a great action story.

This was the first book by Glaspy that I read, and I’m so glad I found it! I’m now on my second series/sixth book! This particular book is so interesting because one of the main characters, Carly, is NOT a Prepper and is completely caught off guard by her new reality. It’s a very unique perspective and has made this book a stand out in the post apoc genre.

A start to another great series! I have read many prepper fiction based on fact books, but P.A. Glaspy puts a different spin on them. A woman's perspective. I highly recommend her first series "A Powerless World" starting with " When the Power is Gone".
Let's all hope and pray that these stories stay fiction, but it doesn't hurt to prepare.
Thanks P.A. for another great read!

This was a good book. The author has created real and likeable characters in a realistic scenario in a realistic world. I am eagerly awaiting the next in the series. The series do well. One or so editing goofs but otherwise flawless. Some may say the character are too nice to be real. But I see my own family and many other families in them.

The first book in this genre that I was able to get to the end of this week. It’s a great start to a new series, it has laid a decent framework with enough characters and just enough info about them to keep the reader interested until they are introduced. I look forward to the next book

This is the first book that I've really enjoyed in quite a while! Good character development without a ton of maudlin wallowing. I won't forget the characters between books like I do with so many other stories. It has a good story line that moves right along.

This book rambles on about essentially nothing and I cannot understand how any adult could find it enjoyable. The writing style is maybe... teen level. Is the next book any better... I doubt it. I won't buy it.

This first book sets the scene for the whole series. I really enjoyed every bit of it and immediately read book 2 which was even better. Book 2 is where most of the action really starts to happen. I can't wait for the 3rd installment.

This is the first book by this author I have read, and I really enjoyed it. It took place in an area I am semi-familiar with, so I related to the characters well. I highly recommend this book and look forward to reading more by this author.

An intriguing pre-apocalyptic story with a bit of a twist. As someone who prefers to read about average people in survival stories, or at least relatable characters as opposed to the preppers with nearly endless supplies of everything plus the added benefit of having been in the military which in my opinion is a very small number of those who in real life work towards being prepared for a wide variety of possible worst case scenarios. It would definitely be much easier to survive almost anything with virtually unlimited resources, knowledge and those just right friends or neighbors who turn out to be unexpected assets. Surviving with a tight budget, no idea of how long one has, or what kinds of supports they might really have seems a lot more realistic which is why this combination of what seems like a typical family combined with one member with foresight gives me hope for a well crafted tale to follow up this well written foundation story.

Well, just wait a minute... I just finished this book and feel like I fell off a cliff. It was goooood! Got to the end and went swiftly to the store to order the sequel. And found...none. Oh, I know she's working on it but geez, I need to find out what happens next.

Great start to the series. I will be comfortable letting my kids read this book. Author keeps it very interesting without diverging into a lot of the language and illicit sex so common in today's books. I'm looking forward to the sequels!

New EMP book tells the story of those totally unprepared for it. The characters are so believable and the storyline with today’s political climate is very believable. My only hope is we never have to face what the characters do. I find it a must read!

I loved the other series and was sad when it end so I was so happy to see this one finally out. It did not disappoint. Hooked me right away and ended too soon. Looking forward to the rest of the series and staying awhile with these great characters.

As far as the mechanics of writing this book is well edited compared to so many others in this genre. At least one can get through it without constantly cringing at the spelling and grammatical errors. The characters are likeable enough, although the story lacks depth and sophistication. It is a pleasant read that holds no plot twists or surprises. Surprisingly lacking in ' prepper' details considering the authors claim to being a prepper. If she is going to begin adding them in the later books in the series, let me just say that that is too late. Those details form the structure of the story, and should have been established here, up front, to set the tone for the series.
Whose idea was it in the first place to make it de rigueur in this genre to write stories in serial form? Soooo annoying! I hope this worn out trend will soon be broken by a good author who understands that a comp!ex, well written stand alone story is the way to go! ( Think: The Stand, or One Second After).

Good writing and character development. The main character lives like so many people and I hope it opens a few eyes to the need to be prepared *just in case*. The only downside to this book? I don't want to wait till spring to read Book Two!

Great start but wonder what spring for next installment. Good character development so I know they will carry an interesting story along. I can't get my family to keep soup and toilet paper ahead. Grocery store every day.

I would have rated this book higher if it had a complete ending. Regrettable this book ends abruptly as a ploy to set up the write to sell us readers a sequel. A tactic that is so popular with the self published. I think this book could real..... (see the rest of my review up an upcoming sequel)

At 68 pages, this isn't a book, its a novella at best. I liked the premise, and I'll be interested in where it goes from here, but I was extremely disappointed at the length. Felt like a tease, with no real indication when the next one is coming or if it will also be a similar length, in which case, I wont be back for more.

A formulaic very brief novelette. I feel like I have read this novel before, although I know I haven't. The author might have expended a little more effort and actually written more than what should have been chapter one. I have Kindle prime so it was included in my monthly fee. I'm glad I didn't pay more to read it. I would have felt cheated. In my view three stars is a charity rating.
