I first read this compilation over twenty years ago, and I still own the same tattered copy. While Roald Dahl is hands-down my favorite children's author ever (and his adult stories are terrific, but not to the same degree), these stories in particular still run through my head frequently for their magical but incredibly believable elements. No one makes the ordinary extraordinary like this man did.

I have always love Roald Dahl books especially The Witches. I think that Roald Dahl does good short stories because I like the way he left you sort of hanging at the end. It is a good book for 4th to 6th graders because of the language and the way it was written. I really would reccomend this book.

Browsing through the local bookstore, I walked past the Roald Dahl section, saw---The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar and Six More--- and bought it. I have been reading it over and over again ever since. The stories are intriguing and imaginative. The story of Henry Sugar especially shows how much of a kid is in Roald Dahl. Each with its very own twist that makes it stand out. For example, Henry Sugar's amazing powers, and on... No wonder this book got 5 stars for most of its reviews!!

The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar and Six More tells, obviously, seven short stories. The collection includes "The Boy Who Talked with Animals", "The Hitchiker", "The Mildenhall Treasure", "The Swan", "Lucky Break", "A Piece of Cake", and of course "The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar." The story of Henry Sugar tells the adventure or a man who learns to see without his eyes and the interesting way he chooses to use his talent. The character of Henry Sugar undergoes a transformation from an egotistiacl socialite to a humanitarian with a twist.
This is definately classic, witty, and slightly twisted (as always) Roald Dahl! It explores the themes of sight, focus, and charity.

this is the only story i have read from the book so far, having just read it this last saturday to my 7 year old cousing before he drifted off to sleep. I'm seventeen and have read a fair share of literature. I enjoy Vonnegut, Lewis, steve Martin, Camus etc..., and I must say that this was one of the most captivating stories I have ever read, taking into account its short length of course. It wasn't epic, but I was driving and caustic. I loved it, and I will buy the book, even that one story would be all that was worth reading, which I highly doubt. I'm just rebuffing the last reviewers oppinion on the "Piece of Cake" story, so that someone might be given a second oppinion. Fusion is awesome, chech out billy cobham, I'm a Christian but I won't be voting for Bush when my first valid election comes around, I play the drums but I don't care for metal or rock n roll, stocks to watch are eag, emrg, almi, orch, and adzr, I'm single as might be assumed, and yes, I have a physics test tommorrow.

This is a very good book for anyone who loves Roald Dahl.Although it is not like his other books, it is a very charming book and reveals some personal information about the writer. It is a splendid book by a very talented writer, where reality and imagination are used to lead the reader to different parts of fantasy.

It's a great story and the reader is good, but i expected the whole book not just the single story. The written story is never sold by itself so why does this audio c.d. have only the henry sugar story? There are 6 more stories in the book, I think they should have included a bit more on this c.d. for this price.

I read these stories as a kid and I loved them! Roald Dahl was always my favorite author growing up. It is sad to see that whoever is in charge of publishing now has made the cover of this book so bland and boring looking.. My copy has alot more character and excitement to the cover (which is the ONLY reason I'm giving it 4 instead of 5 stars, shame on you, publishing company!!) Definitely worth a read and who knows, it may actually inspire you in your own life as Henry Sugar has done for mine. I highly recommend every children's book from this fantastic writer!

As far as I'm concerned, this book should be reachable on every child's bookshelf (and by the way - every child should have a bookshelf). I read it years ago and can still recall the way the book made me feel - truly wonderful. I still remember the story of the hitchhiker so many years after I read it. Dahl is one of the best storytellers of our time.

I read this book as a child and loved it. However, it was hard to tell reality from fiction and I didn't know whether to believe Henry Sugar's powers really existed. In particular, "The Swan" is a VERY disturbing story without the usual comedy found in Roald Dahl's works. I recommend reading this yourself before sharing it with your children. I loved everything else he wrote, but this was frankly disturbing.

I was looking for the big almost everywhere in my country but to no avail. So, finally I found it on the net and amazingly the store had it. I had to wait for a month for the shipment to my country but it was all worth it. Roald Dahl is definitely a must to read, all ages!

I've read the book "The wonderful story of Henry Sugar and six more". It's a book containing seven short stories. The longest one is the story about a wonderful person called Henry Sugar, an egoist who whants to change his life and become more like Robin Hood. But in my opinion, the best one is, "The Swan", a great story about a kid who whants to survie from two big persons of the same age. You just can't stop reading it. The whole book was ok, but some stories were very boring, others were supricenly good. I'll give the book 3 out of 5, because the book was ok. Personally, I don't like shortstories. I prefer reading novels.

My 9 year old loved Charlie & the Chocolate Factory and James & the Giant Peach, so we put several of Dahl's books on his Christmas list. He got this one about Henry Sugar. I decided to read him a chapter at bedtime one night. I came across this line: "Jesus, I thought you were still inside. I came down half a mile away and ran like hell. Are you all right?" When I saw the swear words of this magnatude in what is supposed to be a children's book I was shocked. I changed the words on the fly to something else and decided then to donate the book to the nearest charity. A movie with that kind of language is rated PG-13. I am shocked that this is marketed for children.

Every single person must read The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar. The story is a clever mix of fact and fiction. The other stories in the book are okay. Not my cup of tea... but could be yours. Story of Henry sugar is well written, you can't put it down. A must read for everyone of all ages. Truly one of the great ones.
