Honestly, this outrages me a little bit. Anne is a young girl in the beginning of the series, definitely not a sexed up 17 year old. Also, SHE HAS RED HAIR. This is one of the primary character traits of Anne, and fuels several major plot lines. These books are wonderful, but the publisher really messed up with the cover art.

Anne of Green Gables is my favorite book of all time, I highly recommend reading it but for God's sake do not by this edition! Anne is not blonde, she is not a cowgirl, and she does not have big boobs! Way to screw up a classic book, anger an entire community of fans, and send L.M. Montgomery spinning in her grave!

i love this story, but i wouldn't dare buy this set. the cover is horrible!! the classics are classics for a reason. they stand the test of time. they aren't superficial. they have depth. unlike the cover of this book set. let your dollars and your the store reviews speak!!
Rainbow Valley (Anne of Green Gables series Book 7) :: Anne of Ingleside (Anne of Green Gables, No. 6) :: The Jungle Adult Coloring Book featured with Sweary Words & Animals :: A Harrowing True Story of Survival in the Amazon - Jungle (Movie Tie-In Edition) :: Anne of Green Gables (Black & White Classics)

I'm glad they pulled the cover, but still do not buy this from this seller, even if it was just a publicity ploy. Green hair would have been better than blonde! At least green hair would have a remote tie-in to the book!!

Now, this is embarrassing.
No stock photography of a redhead available? Publisher doesn't want to pay/credit an artist for creative work?
How is it that the copyright for this book is c) Renaissance Classics 2012, as read from the "look inside" preview, but the store lists CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform (an the store subsidiary) as the Publisher? Que paso?
the store, get yourselves together! Attention to detail is IMPORTANT.
Apply SOME standards to your public domain products please, or all credibility and faith in your brands will be lost!

Anne of Green Gables is an exquisite book, ridiculously misrepresented by this cover. Anne is red-headed (a pivotal characteristic in the series), eleven years old when the series starts, and as a Victorian child and Edwardian woman, probably never wore a plaid shirt in her life. Do not support a publishing house so blatantly ignorant about the books they publish as to approve this designer's cover.

Anne of Green Gables has always been one of my favorite stories - I read the book regularly and recommend them to my students. I am very disgusted by the cover I see presented here. Not only is it an inaccurate representation of a well written heroine but it is a sexualized version of a character who we first met as a child. Shame on the publisher. I hope that someone involved in the making of this sees the error of their ways and pulls this from circulation. Horrible!

Please send a message to the store and the publisher responsible for this edition of Anne of Green Gables by NOT purchasing it. The cover photo is entirely inappropriate for the book. The main character, Anne, is a red-haired child, not a sultry blond teenager. Please protect the integrity of this classic story by purchasing a previous edition from another retailer. Thank-you.

If you haven't read Anne of Green Gables before now, then you simply must buy a copy...but not this one.

Anne is a wonderful, red-headed, spunky, dreamer of a character whom generations have grown up with...not this buxom blonde lass from the American mid-West.

Please don't support the sexification of an icon of innocence! Buy a version with a skinny, freckled, redhead on the cover!

Shame on you, publishing house.

The Anne series is wonderful but this 'centerfold' cover is offensive on so many levels. I want tear it to bits. I hope the 'publisher' does not get a single cent for ripping off such a great children's book and tarting it up in this trashy repackaging. Insulting to Anne - the character - a spunky orphaned redhead and -the author, LM Montgomery who sought to empower young girls to be educated and fiesty. Anne and L.M. and our young girls deserve a lot more respect.

Strawberry blonde? Gives a new twist to the whole 'bosom' friends line. So glad this subtext has been artfully revealed in this cover. Also I hear there's an added, recently recovered chapter with her and Gilbert in the hay loft. I hear they have a spelling competition around certain Latin terms.

Wow, this is really low. What happened to the beautiful, innocent little red-haired girl? Did they change the line "Carrots, Carrots" too? This publisher has really sold out on beauty being only on the outside rather than coming from the inside...something that the original Anne of Green Gables really illustrates. I love this book, love this story...but this book cover has got to go.

The very core of Anne Shirley is her RED HAIR. In the first three books of the series she is a YOUNG GIRL. This book is set at the turn of the 20th century. I see no red hair, I see an overly sexualized young girl and not a period costume in sight! Do not buy this edition, it is a gross misrepresentation of the book you will give your young daughter. I read this books when I was coming of age myself, and related to the young girl on the cover trying to find her way in the world. This cover would have turned me off to the book IMMEDIATELY.

Unbelievable! the store, you need to remove this edition from publication. The cover designer needs to have a slate cracked over his/her head until they come to the realization that ANNE IS A REDHEAD, which is mentioned, oh, at least a few (hundred) times throughout the books. Sickening to see a blonde, seductive, men's-shirt-wearing woman posing as Anne, when she is a redheaded, fiery, orphaned, young girl. Very disappointing and disgusting, the store! A terrible publishing mistake/error.

The person who came up with this idea for a cover should be fired. The book is fantastic. You should buy it just not this edition. It's about a lively spirited girl who gets herself into funny situations that only she can. And then you lover her for it.

Sorry but what the ..........
Anne is a Red Head .. A RED HEAD .. not some trashy blonde ... What is up with the cover? Stick to the classic .. because do you seriously think putting this on the cover will sell it?
Pathetic!

Sign
Totally insulted Redhead.

P.S The ONLY AND I MEAN ONLY reason it has a single star is because apparently my opinion of NO stars is not allowed and I am forced to give it at least one, Should have a thumbs down selection instead.

Wonderful books to buy from another publisher. Please do not support the publisher of this dreck. Let Anne be the sweet, feisty, red haired little girl she should be. Appallingly lazy and careless publication.
★ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆

Given the complete lack of effort put into the presentation of this, I wonder if the publisher even bothered to pay the stock photo company for the use of its image? Or would that completely negate their apparent mission to make a lot of money off the creative work of others, contributing nothing of their own?

Cynicism of this magnitude should not be rewarded. These wonderful books are available in other editions.

I grew up reading, and LOVING the Anne of Green Gables books. They are wonderful stories. The cover of this edition is a far cry from what Anne should look like. Why do companies feel the need to sexualize absolutely everything!! This cover is disgusting, and I will NEVER buy this edition for myself or anyone else. the store needs to remove this item. Anne has RED HAIR!! She was a lanky, awkward pre-adolescent. Not some curvy blonde looking to get laid. Get rid of this garbage!
★ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆
hanindyo
Anne Shirley has been an inspiration to generations of redheaded girls. Who is the girl on the cover of this book? Certainly NOT Anne! As a redhead (and the mother of a redheaded 13-year-old daughter), I am outraged! She looks like some Disney star, not the heroine of a classic work of literature. Maybe whoever came up with this idea should actually read the book!
★ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆
kiley
This is one of the best series of books for young girls. I discovered Anne at 10 years old and have loved her ever since. The whole point of the book is that she is not conventionally pretty and it forms the way she interacts with the world. It is an abomination to use a soft-core picture of a vapid blond on the cover.

The books themselves are 5 stars, this edition - NONE.
★ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆
jahangir gilani
No reason to "update" the cover with a blond model, it is everything this book is NOT about. Please, pull the cover and change to something more appropriate, like a picture that actually looks like the character from the book. Someone at your publishing house may try reading the books before foisting something like this off on the public again. Very unhappy, really hope this is changed!
★ ★ ★ ★ ★
writeontarget2
Well, let me clarify my "Five Star" rating.

L.M. Montgomery gets five stars for her charming and classic novel....about a friggin' RED HAIRED orphan!

I seriously hope the person/company responsible for cover design is/has been fired. How does something like that happen? If this updated trampy Anne was some sort of an attempt to try and make the story more appealing so it could compete with the other garbage that's being peddaled to teenagers as "literature", then even more, I say "SHAME ON YOU". What a disgrace.

The sentiment begs repeating...I seriously hope someone was fired over this.

A blonde Anne, in a plaid button down making sexy eyes at the camera? who came up with that terrible idea? does not AT ALL represent the classic values of the book or the innocent whimsical main character!

Anne of Green Gables is a wonderful, timeless book, but do not buy this version. Anne is a precocious scrawny redhead! Major plot point! Essential to the story! Carrots, anyone?! The publisher obviously doesn't have much interest in actually reading the books it churns out. Too easy to plop a generic cute blonde on the cover.
★ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆
asmaa abdul hameed
I haven't read this specific edition of the Anne series, but I have read all of the books at least 10 times. Getting to page 6 of the text though - THIS version of the text - and you'll read that Anne Shirley (aka 'Anne of Green Gables') has red - RED - hair. And she's eleven. And she's skinny. And she wears dresses, not flannel shirts. Read the book, but don't give your money to this publisher. They don't deserve it.
★ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆
arun k
The cover is intended to sell the book, and has no relation to the content. Anne was a rather average looking girl with spirit and imagination, not a blonde in flannel, posing confidently. I'd recommend supporting one of the other books (of many) here on the store that doesn't try to misrepresent the book itself.
★ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆

Since when is Anne of Green Gables a blond sexpot? This images disrespects the author's vision and is typical of the constant sexualization of girls we see in the our society today. Some things are sacred - Anne of Green Gables is one of them.
★ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆

I too find this cover totally inappropriate.
It reminds me of the 1995 movie version of Jane Austen's 'Persuasion'. At first they had this cover on the VHS box, of two people NOT in the movie.
[...]
It was changed for later editions. But I thought at the time they obviously considered Amanda Root and Ciaran Hind not 'sexy' enough to 'sell' it.

This cover does not sell me this edition of one of my favourite books.
★ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆

This was published in November 2012, it has reviews dating back to June 14, 2000? These are mostly positive, possibly as they never saw the book in question? Or, do time traveling reviewers just have no taste?
★ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆
zach zelq
That cover is ridiculous. In this case this edition of the book should definitely be judged by its cover. Do yourself a favour and buy a version that actually depicts "carrots" as her true self. If they botched the cover this badly who knows what they did to the content itself!! Badly done.
★ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆
katelyn summerhays
Hey, wait, you guys! Think of the Daddies. I'm sure the creators of this cover were thinking of all the daddies who get to look at the image of this Anne while their precious little Britneys and Mimseys are reading all about demure and delightful Anne inside the book. Why shouldn't they get a little blonde eye candy?
★ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆
deimant
This is appalling. Not only is Anne a redhead, the first of these books was written in 1908 and is set even earlier than that and Anne is 10 when the book starts. The cover of this edition does this book a terrible disservice. I have read this book multiple times, both as a child and as an adult, but would be embarrassed to carry this version on the bus.
★ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆

Who on earth would ever put a chesty blond in a semi-sultry pose on the front cover of Anne of Green Gables?! Have you people ever heard anything about Anne, the freckled red head who didn't let people's opinion of her looks dictate how she walked through life? Too bad the publisher, Renaissance Classics, let common opinion of "beauty" dictate how they choose cover art. Boo! Renaissance Classics, you messed with the wrong group of fans!
★ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆
peter dicicco
Echoing the sentiment of other reviewers, using a picture of a sultry blonde wearing what appears to be the latest gingham American Apparel shirt is completely disrespectful to the spirit and intent of the Anne of Green Gables story. Buy this book, BUT NOT THIS EDITION.
★ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆

Anne of Green Gables was one of my favorite books growing up. I was particularly inspired by the fact that the heroine, Anne, was much like me - a red-haired, freckled, nerdy bookworm. So, I find this cover - showing an older, sultry-posing blonde - appalling. Shame on this publisher!!! Buy the Anne series - it is truly fantastic and inspiring for all girls - just do not buy this horrible edition!
★ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆
poornima vijayashanker
Do not buy this version of Anne of Green Gables! Buy the original version whose cover shows that Anne has red hair. I have been to Prince Edward Island and seen everything there that's related to Anne including the musical. "Anne" there has red hair!!! I plan to contact people at the island who are related to Lucy Maud Montgomery to see why this was printed.

Budgeting Issues? or just an impersonal corporate pass on a HORRIBLY executed cover? - So very sad and disappointing. There are so MANY great designers and illustrators out there that would love a chance to update this classic - so sad that all was passed over for a bizarre non-related photographic image. Brilliant writing should never be desecrated by poor imagery in this way.
★ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆
anshu bhojnagarwala
The series is great, but the cover picture is ridiculous! Who is that supposed to be?? Certainly not Anne with an e. Anne begins with a young girl with red hair, and matures into a thoughtful woman with hair she hopes is Auburn. It's more than hair color, it's incorrect and weird. Someone needs to fix the error.
★ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆
delfina lopez
This horrible edition of these wonderful books completely disgusts me! Slap some picture of some random BLONDE on the cover of these amazing books to try to make a quick buck? What a joke! Anne is a REDHEAD, it makes no sense, did you change the book contents to match your ridiculous cover? She is not a blonde maxim model. If you are considering buying these books please do, they were some of my favorites growing up and I love them. But get an official edition, not this pathetic piece of garbage. This "publisher" is nothing but a disgrace and should be ashamed of themselves. Put a redheaded, freckled girl on the cover as described by the author herself, not some blonde bimbo!
★ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆
a reader
When this series starts, Anne is a thirteen year old orphan, described as skinny, redheaded, with a smattering of freckles, and no home anywhere. This book cover assaults not only what people have come to love about Anne, but what Anne feels about herself. It's okay to let thirteen year olds be little girls. This book cover took NOTHING that Anne says about herself, her world, or her ideals into account. Bad, bad decisions.
★ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆
rachel pirie
Anne is a Canadian treasure and that is definitely not her on the cover!!!!

These are classic childhood novels about a young red-haired girl and to reprint them with a cover that belongs on a harlequin novel is not only ridiculous but offensive.
★ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆
nada taher
I dislike the cover very much. Why make Anne - who was so fun and distinctive to read about - into a generic-looking, blond, sultry teen? It looks like the publishers were trying to make her look modern, but it's too bad that means making her look like a cheer leader lounging around
★ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆

Find another version - this cover is an abomination. Anne's RED hair is in part what defines her personality. Not to mention she is a girl. Must we use sex to attract for everything? The books are a must-read, but avoid this version!!
★ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆

I remember reading this series as a child...it was epic...What I don't remember, is Anne being a sexed up blond Abercrombie & Fitch model...What happened to Anne's turn of the century style? Her red locks? For shame on this new cover...find an older printing and don't support this marketing FAIL...(would give that cover negative stars if I could)
★ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆

This cover is beyond ridiculous. What was the publisher thinking? Have they not read the book? Anne is not a sexy blond. Maybe they mixed up the covers...oh, we could only wish this was the reason. Please fix this so that I can actually buy the book for my daughter.

I can't believe you think that changing the cover this way will help sell books. Anne of Green Gables is a classic wonderful book.
This cover is offensive to readers of true literature. If we wanted a book with a cover like this there are no end of smutty romances available.
★ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆
asmus bisgaard
The Anne everyone loves is definitely not a blonde and then to add insult to injury .... the "look" on her face ... really????? What were you thinking ... not much apparently. You owe the family of LC Montgomery an apology.

Love the book, but gave the cover a one star rating, which is still too high.
★ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆

Come on Seriously blonde hair and a sexy look for Anne of Green Gables ? Anne was ten years old at the beginning of the story and had RED hair. The red hair is an important part of her character and personality. Its a wonderful series so buy the books but please not this series.
★ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆

The Anne books have been some of my favorite for as long as I can remember reading. I'm a redhead who had a character I could identify with, which was important when I was young. Try having your people read the book before creating a cover like this. Also, that woman is clearly not a preteen.
★ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆

Oh, how I love Anne Shirley. She and I have been "kindred spirits" for decades. Please do buy this book for the little girls in your life -- but don't buy THIS one. Whoever thought it appropriate to put Anne into an Abercrombie & Fitch, sexy farm girl shirt with let's-get-busy-in-the-hayloft eyes is insane. Anne is a 10-year-old redhead who blushes! This is really offensive.

I am totally outraged by this terrible cover of the beloved classic "Anne of Green Gables". I have loved this book for 20 years and will continue to love the story and its sequels. What I won't be doing is ordering from the store anymore.

Honestly, if you intend to flog a book that's been loved by millions, this is a big fail. All the charm and innocence, not to mention the famous carrot hair that is central to the story,is mocked by the come hither s*** on your cover. Read the book!
★ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆

"I can't eat. I'm in the depths of despair. Can you eat when you are in the depths of despair?" How COULD anyone ever IMAGINE Anne Shirley with b-l-o-n-d-e hair?!...this cover is a false portrayal of our beloved red-headed Anne. The publisher of this cover is definitely NOT a kindred spirit!
★ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆
aidyn k
There are plenty of other editions out there with representative covers: a redhaired little girl wearing appropriate clothes for that time period and location. Pick one of those instead. This cover is completely wrong for the book, in so many ways.
★ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆
chantelle
This book is just a money grab. By using a blond girl that looks nothing like the official image of Anne they would not have to pay the rights for her image and because the book is now so old its a free license. So this is just a giant money grab. Please at least buy an addition that pays for the rights to Anne's image.
★ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆
imelda
The picture on the cover is an insult to a wonderful CHILDREN's book. Annie was a small child with red hair and pigtails. Her well-known image should have been used. I think this is a way to not pay royalties to the Annie of Green Gables foundation in Canada.

I would recomend Anne of green gables to anyone. Anne Shirley has been my favorite heroine ever since I was eleven years old. I love how Anne is always naming things and places. After reading this book I went out and found myself a lovers lane. I also enjoy that Anne love poetry. When ever I read poetry I always get a tingly feeling. I love Anne of Green Gables.
★ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆
sarahko108
This is absolutely ridiculous. Anne is a darling and spunky redhead, not a dumb country bumpkin blonde. What a shame that a perfect book is ruined by likely an idiot designer who hasn't even read the series. Buy the book set, BUT NOT THIS BOOK SET! So sad.
★ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆

Whoever published this edition of a classic and beloved story should be ashamed of themselves. Trying to sell on sex appeal is despicable. Why are you contributing to the sexualization of little girls?
the store, remove this listing completely, unless you'd like to start an the store wall of shame.

This is a fantastic first book in an amazing series. I've read them more times than I can count. But, this cover is totally ridiculous! You barely need to skim the first chapter to realize that Anne is "decidedly" red-headed, only 10 years old, and thin with a freckled face. Did they just grab a Hollywood "beauty" stock photo for this cover?
★ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆

Adding my voice to everyone who thinks this is a travesty. Maud would be spinning in her grave. If people are going to take advantage of books in the public domain, at least do it with some respect for the original author.

This is utter nonsense! The cover has nothing to do with the book and is nothing short of appalling. The story is one of the most beautiful stories ever written and has long since been my favorite. To see this piece of trash cover representing a story I so cherish is heart breaking. DO NOT BUY THIS VERSION!!!

I am not usually one to get up in arms about the way characters are portrayed on book covers. After all, there's usually much left to the imagination and I wouldn't try to enforce my own vision as correct over another. However, this cover seems to miss the mark completely.

Normally, I really couldn't care less about a book's cover but a blonde? Seriously?!? Did the people who produced this book even read it? Anne of Green Gables is a classic and should be in any serious readers collection. Do your self a favor and pickup another edition though.

If this was the very last edition of this series ever published. If I was stranded on a desert island with this specific book series in this edition. If this would be the last picture or image that I would ever see linked to humanity. I would rip the cover off and burn it to keep myself warm. The other publications of this book are great. I cant wait to read them to my daughter. But I will NEVER pay money for this version. EVER.

This is a great series-but don't buy this edition. It is trying to depict a wonderful story about a young girl-who starts off the series as kid, as a hooker instead. Our society is oversexualized as it is-don't encourage them by buying this edition. It's disgusting. You should be ashamed for making this cover, you jerks.
★ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆

My four-year-old granddaughter can tell you that Anne is a RED head. Further Anne would not pose in a sultry or sexy manner such as this. Did the publisher actually APPROVE this cover? I would recommend obtaining a copy from a used book store before purchasing this edition.
★ ★ ★ ☆ ☆

Having read the book and watched the series I feel that the new cover does not suit the book and am saddened that in order for girls to read this book they have to put a sexy girl on the cover. However, as the foster mother of 3 girls ages 12, 13 and 16 I know how they pick books - by the cover! We go to the library and all the books they choose have similar pictures on their covers. I will pick out books and suggest they try them and they take one look at the covers and are not interested. Maybe with a cover like this some girls will actually read these wonderful books. I hope that they have not "updated" the story in the same way as the cover. I would suggest that the hair on the girl shown in the new cover be changed to red at the very least.

I think that the person who made the decision to publish the cover should be fired: For not reading the book! For creating such an offensive cover. Anne Shirley blond? And she died her hair green why? She was teased by Gilbert why? There needs to be an apology by the publisher too!

This is incredibly offensive. Nobody read the book in designing this cover. Anne is not a sex symbol; she's 10 years old for goodness sake! And she has RED HAIR, which I could overlook if it wasn't AN ESSENTIAL CHARACTER TRAIT TO THE STORYLINE.
★ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆

One of the things that makes Anne with an E most crazy is her RED hair how can you make her a BLONDE? I am just hoping this is a mistake. The one star is for how much I love these books but that cover HAS TO GO!

Anne of Green Gables is a wonderful series of books and all young girls should read it. With that said, Anne is a RED HEAD, not a blonde girl sitting in a provocative pose like this book portrays. Megan Follows did a wonderful job portraying Anne. It was believable and she had RED hair. Don't buy this edition.

"She wore a faded brown sailor hat and beneath the hat, extending down her back, were two braids of very thick, decidedly red hair. Her face was small, white and thin, also much freckled; her mouth was large and so were her eyes, which looked green in some lights and moods and gray in others. "

She's supposed to be a scrawny redhead!!!! It's important because we identified with her when we were awkward little girls, and her adventures taught us that it's what's on the inside that matters. Boycott the version with this cover, please.

I loved the Anne books. I loved the stories and how spunky Anne was. However, I found the cover on these books to be a desecration of the story. Anne was not a nubile blonde. She was a small skinny girl with red hair she wore in braids. This cover is ridiculous. It is false advertising and you should be ashamed of yourself for trying to make her something she was not. She didn't pose like a porn star. Anne and her author, Lucy Maude Montgomery would be horrified to see Anne displayed in this way.

Obvioulsy, you have never read the books. Anne is a red-head. And a young, naive girl. Not a blond trampy valley girl. This cover is a total slap in the face to the high quality writing of Montgomery, and the character she created. Bad move the store! BAD!

Hey Publisher, was this necessary? What idiot decided that the book's protagonist needed to be updated to a teenage whore? For starters, the character Anne is 10 years old at the beginning of the series and redheaded - not a teenage blonde.

Don't be an idiot - don't purchase this edition!

Fabulous book, every child should read it, but the cover is ridiculously wrong for this set. Would the publishing house do a cover for Goldilocks, with a black haired girl? Or Snow White with blond hair? Red hair isn't incidental for this character, it's part of the story.

Fail! Anne has red hair. Whoever considered using this photograph has made th human race poorer and reduced the collective potential of the human race, we are all poorer for their existence. They deserve, and I volunteer to be the first, a slate broken over their head.

The Anne of Green Gables stories are absolutely wonderful! But I will never buy this edition. The blonde seductress on the cover is NOT vivacious, spirited, red-headed Anne with an "e". Did the artist even read the book?

I was shocked when I realized this WASN'T an American eagle promo card, and that I wasn't getting 20% off of my entire purchase. Jk. But seriously, this is a bad marketing strategy. It did, however, provoke so much public interest that no one will be able to forget it. I bet this publishing company AND the buxom blonde walk away with with all the publicity money that should be going to the dear late Lucy Maude Montgomery, who is as we speak, turning in her grave. Thank you.

CreateSpace should be ashamed of themselves. Sure, books become public domain and therefore any schmo with a computer can publish something but do your research. They just lost my business for any future purchases.

I NEVER read this as a child thinking that an awkward pre-teen was not a good person to look up to. Now that Anne has FINALLY be depicted in a way that I recognize from my current subscription to Tiger Beat approves of, I can finally enjoy the tale of a beautiful blond with tousled hair grow up to be a beautiful blond with tousled hair. At LAST, a role model for me!!!

Anne as a blonde is a HUGE improvement. When I heard that the main character in Anne of Green Gables was a redhead I decided not to read it, since redheads are unpleasant, but this new blonde Anne is perfect!

This cover appalls me and is completely inappropriate for these books. The story and series about Anne of Green Gables is a classic, and much of her angst in the first book revolves around the fact that she has carrot-red hair and is freckled and considers herself plain. She is also an adolescent and completely unaware of boys as anything other than annoying.

I not only consider this in poor taste and not true to the book, but it's really false advertising. Someone who would be drawn to the book solely based on that picture would probably be sorely disappointed in its content. Assuming they knew how to read it. :-)

Clearly, the person who approved that cover is completely out of touch and has never read the series. Anne is a redheaded 12-year-old in the first book, not a buxom, blonde hottie of 18.

Some people think you will make a story more appealing by sex-ing up the cover. Typical. It's like the book is telling girls that if you look a certain way, you'll be more attractive inside. The books stand alone as quality, entertaining literature. But sex sells, and so I guess that we should sell it to our girls in order to trick them into reading the classics. Good grief! The publisher's marketing department needs some help!

This series is a fabulous story of a young red head growing up and finding her place in the world. I recommend it to anyone, but not this version. The publisher has clearly misprinted the cover or lost their mind. There is no sexed up blond Anne in this book. Ugh!
