I am a longtime fan of Foster's work but I was so disappointed with this book. I tried and tried but could not get into this story, which is a shame as I had pre-ordered it because I loved the other books in the series. This heroine, Margo, is boring and not particularly interesting or likable. Dash, the hero, is ok but it bothered me that he seemed overly obsessed with being who he thought Margo would want, rather than just being himself. I checked my Kindle and realized I was 51% through the book, nothing much had happened and I had other books in my TBR pile that I was way more interested in starting, so I decided to return it for a refund. I've come to realize that it doesn't matter how fabulous the hero is; if I can't connect with the heroine, the book is a fail for me.

The previous books in the series I zipped through so fast, but this one I've been struggling to get through. It's just very boring to me. I recommend skipping this one unless you can borrow it from a friend or go to the library.

Found the characters strong, but way to much sex. So much that it distracted from the overall story line. I have seen this before and I will hesitate to purchase further books on the fear of a repeat performance. Would not give this a read endorsement.

I didn't like this book and felt the author didn't do justice to the characters. This is honestly the first Lori Foster book I didn't like. I'm actually looking forward to her upcoming fighter series. I'm thinking she was focused so much on writing the new series that she didn't pay attention to this book. She doesn't even explain all the undercover work the main characters do together that was suppose to continue from the last book in this series. Oh well..... Maybe the next one will be better.

This book was 50 pages of story and the rest was pure smut. I love romance books and I don't mind love scenes but it needs to have a strong story. For every page of the actual plot, there were 5 pages of love scenes. I ended up skimming through the book just to finish it. I enjoyed the characters Connor and Yvette more than the main characters and will read their book when it comes out, but this one is worth missing. Save your money.

What do you get when you put a bad-ass female police lieutenant and a hot owner of a construction company together with some seriously messed up criminals? You get DASH OF PERIL by Lori Foster, of course. DASH OF PERIL may be the 4th and last book in the Love Undercover series, but you can read this as a stand alone if you haven't read the last three.

Lieutenant Margaret (Margo) Peterson's doesn't end when her shift is over, this determined and gutsy woman is always business. Determined to bring down the low-lifes who are kidnapping women off the streets and leaving them for dead. Using herself as bait hasn't been getting her anywhere until her car gets t-boned by some of these bad guys who want her eliminated. Lucky for Margo, Dashiel (Dash) Riske, who has a serious case of the hots for the lieutenant and decides to tail her to make sure she gets home safe from her outing, when he sees the frightening accident happen, he springs into action to save her.

Margo comes away with a dislocated elbow among her cuts and bruises, but she also comes away with Dash as her personal chauffeur and bodyguard until things get back to normal. Only this highly strung, take charge woman is not used to taking a back seat and she is extremely uncomfortable with any help from this man, who is the brother of one of her officers.

Dash knows how to play Margo like a fine tuned piano in more ways than one. He gets the always in work mode Margo to slow down and experience a feminine side she never knew she had, while allowing her to be the bad-ass cop on the job. When the heat is turned up and now civilian Dash is thrown into the mix, Margo is more determined than ever to bring down the pornography ring that has a hit out on her now. In addition to that Margo's past is coming back to haunt her from her department cleanup, which included her own cold as ice father.

What a way to end a series. DASH OF PERIL by the indomitable Lori Foster is a gripping and sexy read. I absolutely love Dash's demeanor. This is a man with a plan and once he decides that Margo is going to be his, he is brilliant about making that a reality. He is sexy but not cocky about it, he is all man with the knowledge of just exactly what his woman needs. Margo hasn't had the perfect up-bringing and that has affected her to this day. Always seeking acceptance from her father who has never shown her any outward affection or understanding and has even openly shown his disdain for her. Margo rises above all that in the professional department, but is completely out of sorts when confronted with her attraction to Dash and his willingness to allow her submissive in the bedroom and tough nails lieutenant outside of said bedroom. These two characters play off each other so well and even have all of their surrounding counterparts with eyebrows raised. DASH OF PERIL is a great read that I highly recommend.

BOOK SYNOPSIS

A no-nonsense female cop reluctantly teams up with the one man who makes her lose control in a deliciously sensual new novel from New York Times bestselling author Lori Foster…

To bring down a sleazy abduction ring, Lieutenant Margaret "Margo" Peterson has set herself up as bait. But recruiting Dashiel Riske as her unofficial partner is a whole other kind of danger. Dash is 6'4" of laid-back masculine charm, a man who loves life—and women—to the limit. Until Margo is threatened, and he reveals a dark side that may just match her own.

Beneath Margo's tough facade is a slow-burning sexiness that drives Dash crazy. The only way to finish this case is to work together side by side…skin to skin. And as their mission takes a lethal turn, he'll have to prove he's all the man she needs—in all the ways that matter.

My Thoughts

Dash Of Peril is the fourth book in the Love Undercover series and quickly drew the reader in with the fast action in the beginning scenes.

Like each of the previous works this story focuses on one particular couple, but it also cameos previous characters allowing a small glimpse into what is currently going on with them to a point.

In the previous books the character of Lt. Margaret Peterson is not one that has endeared herself to me, that changed the first time she cuddled her elderly blind cat Oliver and I felt a connection as a pushover pet lover myself!

The beginnings of the relationship between Margo and Dash started heating up earlier in the last book Getting Rowdy and is now explored in depth as we enjoy watching this intimidating female find her softer side in the arms of a very capable alpha male who provides not only emotional support but a very real physical one when needed.

Dealing with her family issues has never been pleasant for Margo Peterson, they are all brought to a head in this story managing to complicate the investigation into the abduction ring that has become more of a personal threat as well as a professional one to Margo.

Filled with enough tension, suspense, twists and turns that leave you guessing and a lovely romance between Dash and Margo that leaves you breathless this story pushes all the right buttons!

Simply put this story exceeded my expectations so while sad to see this series come to a close excited to start the next one as it begins with Cannon's story in the fall of 2014.

Dash of Peril is the fourth instalment of the Love Undercover series by this established author and is as sexy and enthralling as ever. These books are contemporary romance suspense that feature characters in Law Enforcement and those they love. Theres a fine line sometimes between upholding the law and breaking it and these stories bring light to issues that are sometimes hidden. A fabulous way to spend a few hours and although the books are connected happily all are easily read as standalone .
Margo is a no nonsense police Lieutenant working hard in a traditional mans world. She's good at her job and totally committed so when women start getting abducted and cruelly abused in porn movies she's not about to sit back and do nothing. Problem is she needs backup and Dash the annoyingly gorgeous brother of one of her detectives seems only too happy to help. He's a civilian so Margo really doesn't want to involve him but sometimes what Margo wants and what Margo needs are not the same thing!
Dash is following Margo home one night when she's viciously attacked. Left without the ability to look after herself the fiercely independent Margo has to agree to let Dash come home with her until it's certain she's not suffering any lasting damage. Dash has long wanted the opportunity to get closer to Margo and he's not about to let it slip through his fingers. Margo may be vulnerable but it's obvious she does have feelings for Dash. What starts out as an innocent deed pretty soon escalates to a lesson in passion. Margo is a well waiting to be tapped and Dash feels he's just the man for that job but danger is still stalking the feisty Lieutenant and it looks like Dash and Margo's fledgling relationship is truly in peril.
I first discovered Ms Fosters work several years ago and she's one of the most consistent authors I have ever found. Her books are filled with believable characters , strong story lines and hot encounters! This book did not disappoint and the hard as nails heroine Margo was just such a revelation. It's hard to always be in charge and I loved that the hero Dash could see her innermost needs. He didn't just see them he attended to them and it's a delicious slow burn that drives the passion within this story. Dash is an alpha male but he's also sensitive and Margo clearly needed to just let go of control sometimes.
This isn't just about romance though as there is a very real storyline running through this book. Prostituition and sex trafficking is a genuine issue facing Law enforcement and although this is a work of romantic fiction I applaud the author for bringing what's almost a taboo subject into the light. The villains here may be a little one dimensional but this is meant to be an escapist book for readers to while away a few hours with and not a serious tome. So this book is probably one of my favourites from this author and I really enjoyed spending time with the hot Dash and strong Margo. A great fast moving plot that from the start just drags the reader in . There's action as well as passion and well written characters to care about . Supporting characters are interesting as well and I suspect one in particular (Cannon) may get his own book. It was a really fun book to read and I'm so looking forward to more from Ms Foster. Recommended .

I feel bad giving this book a mediocre review because Lori Foster tackled a difficult role-reversal with the love story and did a decent job with it. However I never really fell in love with the two main characters or their romance and the "catch the bad guys" part of the book was very much in the background so it didn't get enough screen time to keep my interest either. So there was nothing in the story that pissed me off, but nothing that really captivated me either, hence three stars.

I admire Foster's decision to use a truly strong female protagonist in her story. So many times authors will SAY the heroine is strong, but what they give us is either an irrational, stubborn b*tch or a complete pushover. Margo is a truly strong character. She's a tough cop who made Lieutenant by the age of 30 and cleaned house on all the corrupt cops in her department...including her own father. She keeps her subordinates at arms-length to maintain their respect and as a result they don't even see her as a woman. (I found this particular aspect of the story to be a little over-the-top. If Margo is as gorgeous as Dash says she is, it's hard to believe anyone could see her as not being a woman. You can respect someone as a fellow police officer without being blind to their gender.)

Margo is hunting a group of serial rapists who kidnap women from local bars, drug and rape them on camera, and then either release the woman or kill her and dump the body. Before the story began, Margo had been going to bars late at night regularly in order to try to make herself an attractive target for the kidnappers. She used Dash as cover, to give herself someone to hang on in order to make it less suspicious that she was at the bars. This whole premise was a bit hard to believe. It's like one of those episodes of Star Trek where the away team is made up of the Captain, First Mate, and all the other ultra-important people on board. Only in fiction would this kind of thing be considered normal. Seriously, on what planet would the head of the police department be the one to go under cover for this kind of operation?? Are there seriously NO other women on her whole team? (Possibly not, since we don't meet a single one during the course of the book). But even then, aren't there any women in one of the other departments? Someone from Vice perhaps? It just didn't make sense to me that the woman in charge of it all would be using herself as bait, and that everyone around her was allowing it. Second, she's a terrible candidate for undercover work because she's famous. Her picture has been in the paper because of her high-profile war on the corruption in the department. So there's every reason the bad guys would know she was a cop right from the word go. All around this was just a dumb premise.

Margo found herself getting too attached to Dash in their undercover work so she ended the arrangement and they parted ways for the holidays. She did not, however, stop using herself as bait. She just continued on without any backup or cover. Here again, this seems pretty dumb for a supposedly smart cop. Knowing the bad guys are using drugs, she should have recognized the possibility that she could be surprised, or rushed and drugged before she could defend herself. And with no backup, she'd be screwed. Lucky for Margo, Dash seeks her out to try to rekindle their acquaintance on the very day the bad guys make their move.

Here again, I admire Foster for taking the difficult path with the romance. With a woman as strong as Margo, Foster had to work very hard to keep Dash from coming across as a wimp. And while I feel like she did basically everything she could to make Dash strong, I still felt "meh" about the relationship. Because Margo is so hell-bent on being tough and in charge all the time, Dash has to be the one to make all the concessions and be understanding. Right from the start he's carefully choosing his words and tempering his actions to steer Margo in the right direction. No matter what Margo says or does, he always understands and reacts in exactly the right way. It made him come across as just a bit too perfect. He basically never made a wrong move throughout the whole book and was always willing to accept fault, even when he hadn't done anything wrong. So while he was appropriately protective and manly while still respecting Margo's own abilities, the relationship didn't feel like an equal partnership. Dash had to tiptoe around Margo and her issues and never really got an opportunity to stand up and demand to be treated right himself.

Much has been made in the comments from this book about the whole dominant/submissive theme in their sex play, but honestly, it's hardly there at all. Considering how mainstream BDSM has become, what Dash and Margo did doesn't even qualify. It basically boils down to one of them being "in charge" when they're in the bedroom. That's hardly something to get worked up about. Someone almost always takes the lead in sex. There was no bondage or whips or anything even remotely out of the ordinary about what they were doing. I did find it odd that Foster played up this practically nonexistent angle to their sex play in the same story and in some cases the same scene as where she described the horrific bondage-themed rapes that were going on in town. It made the whole thing come across as off and like her overall message wasn't that BDSM is okay, but rather that anything but straight vanilla sex in the most mainstream manner possible somehow qualifies as aberrant.

Margo refers to her desire to not be the boss in the bedroom as being her "secret dark desire" as if it's some how bad or shameful. Then she meets Dash and he picks up on this "dark" desire and proceeds to accommodate by taking the lead in bed (the exact way most romance novel heroes do). They make a big deal about how this allegedly Dom/Sub relationship is isolated to the bedroom, right before they go to the police station and watch some of the rapes on video. And Dash has to reassure Margo that what they're doing in bed isn't the same as what's happening in the rapes. She seems to need this reassurance....but then like five minutes later she's feeling Dash up in the car. The whole thing just felt off. I think it would have been better to keep the nature of the crime separate from their sex life. The crime in the book could easily have been just run of the mill murders. Or drugs, or robberies, or any number of non-rape things. And if rape had to be involved, the BDSM nature of the crimes could easily have been dropped. The girls were already drugged to the point where they couldn't fight back, tying them up wasn't necessary. It just created a forced squicky parallel to the romance that didn't need to be there.

Elsewhere in the book, I found Margo's abilities as a police detective to be pretty lacking. She sees the car one of the bad guys is driving and notices that it's got very unique, custom-made rims and yet doesn't think to pursue this as a lead for tracking them down until like 2 days later. She also walks into an obvious trap at the end and allows Dash and another character to walk into it with her with no plan on how they'll get out. And it actually takes the actions of another, non-cop to save them from the situation. All in all, not impressing me.

The inclusion of Rowdy in this book didn't add anything, in my opinion. I haven't read any of the other books in the series so maybe this makes sense if you have the background but I didn't see it. First, I didn't like the way Margo was completely star-struck by his amazing good looks, even after she'd started sleeping with Dash. That's just not cool. And I found it very hard to believe that Rowdy's wife was so blase about the fact that Margo need to roll her tongue back up after seeing him. I don't care how secure she is in their relationship, it would be annoying to see another woman so blatantly ogling her man. It didn't make sense that Rowdy inserted himself into the police investigation, and they allowed it to happen like it was no big deal. And I hated the scene at the end where Rowdy comes and explains the facts of life to Margo. The whole scene was over sexualized, with a lot of emphasis being put on how close they sat on the couch, how he put his arm around her, and how he rubbed his fingers through her hair as she cried, etc.. All things I'd find inappropriate if I were Rowdy's wife or Dash.

The way Dash and Margo got together at the end was a letdown because it was just another example of Dash giving in and accommodating Margo's issues. I thought we were being set up so that we'd see Margo finally admitting that she needed Dash and actually going after him for a change, but nope. Second verse, same as the first. And I really could have done without the final paragraph where all the couples from the series are hanging out at the bar and Dash goes to sit at the "wives" table while Margo hangs out with the men. It just really underlined the point that this wasn't and would never be an equal partnership between them.

All in all, I admire the author for tackling the role-reversal romance and feel like she gave it a very solid shot. But it still didn't feel like an equal partnership and I had trouble warming up to it. The forced pseudo-Dom/Sub angle to the romance was strange and came across like the author was trying to make some kind of point that didn't really come together. And there were multiple other niggling things throughout the book that kept me from really falling in love with it. It's still not a bad book, but not one I'd read more than once.

My Thoughts:

Getting Rowdy was my first book by Lori Foster, and I loved it!!! In that segment of the series, I was introduced to Margo and Dash. Right away I noticed what a strong woman Margo was. She was the Lieutenant, and she had a way of making the detectives and police officers quake in their boots. Nobody messed with Margo or questioned her authority. With such a large presence, men were intimidated by her. Even though Dash was mentioned, I didn't get a good understanding of his character, so I was excited to read his story, and get to know him better.

In Dash of Peril, we get Margo and Dash's story, but Logan, Reese, Rowdy, and Cannon were also a significant part of the story! I've come to love all of these loyal, gallant, and sexy alpha males, and can never get enough of them! The action and suspense comes to an all time high when Margo and Dash are thrown in to very real danger! Margo, Logan, and Reese have been investigating, to try to find the men responsible for drugging various women, torturing, raping, and videotaping them. Some of these women were even murdered. These slimy low lives, gave me the creeps, and it scared me to think that there really are people out in the world that share the same mentality as the psychopaths in the story.

It was obvious that Dash had a huge crush on Margo, and even though these two had a lot of sexual tension, she made the error of prejudging him as a wimp. Margo couldn't have been farther from the truth! I loved Dash! I can't really put it in to words, but he was different from any male character that I have ever read about before. He was gentle, patient, kind, fun loving gallant, and yet he was also take charge, alpha, and extremely protective. At times he was a little too protective, to the point of smothering. However, Margo was sure to put him in check!

Margo was use to being tough, take charge, and strong, because she was taught from a young age never would show weakness, pain, or feeling to others. We never got to see Margo as a vulnerable, sensitive, woman, until Dash came on the scene. He made her feel safe and secure. He made her feel like a sexy, desirable, and beautiful woman. I loved the changes that Margo undertook! She really blossomed in her relationship with Dash. These two had a lot of passion together, and the book was filled with steaming hot love scenes!

My Rating:

Dash Of Peril, by Lori Foster, was a great addition to the Love Undercover Series! I devoured this story, and did not want to put it down! I loved the main characters, Margo and Dash, as well as getting to read about the rest of the guys; Logan, Reese, Rowdy, and Cannon! There were plenty of sexy and steamy scenes, as well as emotional, romantic, and tender moments. I love how Ms. Foster always adds another dimension to her love stories, with mystery, action, and suspense! I give, Dash Of Peril, by Lori Foster, 4 Entertaining, Sexy, Sweet, Suspenseful, Pulse Pounding Stars!

Every series must come to an end and Dash of Peril is the last book in Lori Foster’s Love Undercover series, but man what an awesome ending! Tough as nails police Lieutenant Margaret “Margo” Peterson doesn’t have time for relationships but Dashiel “Dash” Riske has plans to make her see otherwise and while he’d never ask for the trouble they get into, he can’t help but be thankful that she needs help and he’s on hand to provide it. An amazing cast of characters, a thrilling plot line, smart dialog, and lots of sexy fun make Dash Of Peril the perfect book to round out what has been an entertaining and provocative series.

I love a strong female character who can take care of themselves and that describes Margo perfectly. I’ll admit that that when we first met her in the earlier books I was a little unsure of her; I wasn’t sure if she could be trusted. Over time it became apparent she was one of the few who could be trusted and I greatly admired her strength and dedication to the force. I also found it interesting that when one of her detective’s brother was around, we got glimpses of another side of this complex woman. Dash had the uncanny ability to knock her off balance which of course did not please her so it made perfect sense that he was the man who would eventually worm his way into her life and her heart.

Dash is a man that displays a quiet strength. He’s been there to offer assistant to his crime fighting brother and his friends when needed but knows his limitations and boundaries. The one thing he is sure of is that he wants Margo like no other woman and he plans to have her despite her obvious attempts to keep him at bay.

I honestly don’t know when I’ve enjoyed a couple more than Dash and Margo. Dash is one of those heroes who is surprising because on the outside he seems pretty laid back and willing to go with the flow but with Margo he becomes this dominate alpha male willing to be whatever she needs. I love that he doesn’t let her hide anything from him, that he fully appreciates her strength, that when she’s in “police mode” he finds it sexy, and that he calms her fears and lets her be the woman she is. Seriously, Dash is a pretty awesome man and as far as I can tell he has few flaws. Margo is kind of a mess; she had a really strange and difficult upbringing, she feels that she can never let her guard down around anyone, and she thinks she needs to be in control of everything at all times. It was interesting to watch as Dash helped her to understand it was okay to lean on someone, to be cared for, and to let someone else lead. I really loved watching her figure out that with Dash she could be herself and that Dash not only accepted all of her sides but relished in bringing them out.

Dash and Margo find themselves smack dab in the middle of a messy situation. With Margo injured she is forced to let Dash help her and trust Logan, Reese, Rowdy and even Cannon to investigate the crime in which she had become a target. As with most of Ms. Foster’s book there was a lot of suspense, crimes against women, some pretty heinous acts of violence, and the threat of even more. However, and I stress this, everything in this book was used to move the plot forward and to show the reader that while there is crime everywhere there are also men and women both in uniform and out working to make the world a better place.

One last bit of kudos for this book, Ms. Foster made my year by including one of my all time favorite heroes from her SBC series in this book. It was a cameo appearance but I literally screamed when he appeared. His appearance has to do with the young man Cannon who we met in the last book and had a sizable role in this book and I can only hope that means we will once again get to see the SBC characters in her upcoming series.

From beginning to end of both this book and this series author Lori Foster had entertained, enlightened, educated, and thrilled us with her uncanny ability to mix suspense, sex, and love into one amazing package. Dash of Peril might be the end of this series, but we got a good look at what’s to come in her next series and honestly, I don’t know when I’ve been more excited about the start of something new!

I received Dash of Peril in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Dash was introduced in the first book in the Love Undercover series and I’ve loved him since then. To be totally honest, one of the things that I’ve really enjoyed about this series is getting to know the supporting characters and trying to figure out exactly when which character is going to get their story. I have yet to be disappointed. ;)

Readers who have been following along knew that there was more than a little bit of attraction between Dash and Margo. Even before we got to this book it was rather entertaining. On the surface their personalities couldn’t be more different. Margo was the tough as nails, no nonsense detective and also Dash’s brother’s boss. Dash… well he was just sweet, lovable, easy going Dash. He was also loyal, hard working and protective. I knew going in that this was going to be interesting.

There was a lot going on in this one. Not only were the previous characters involved, but there were quite a few new ones. Most notably, Margo’s family… let’s just say, I’m not a fan. They definitely brought out the alpha male in Dash. Her brother was the only one with any redeeming qualities. I even almost liked him by the end – time will tell.

As readers have come to expect from Lori Foster, there was plenty of action, intrigue, lots of danger and more than enough heat to keep the pages turning. I loved these two together. I loved Dash’s patience and determination to keep Margo safe and prove himself. I also loved the fact that he was the only one that could really ‘see’ who she was behind the formidable wall she had built around herself. There ended up being a lot more to both characters than I ever expected. I love it when that happens. ;)

As for the previous characters… they all played a major role in this one. Logan and Reese’s reaction to Dash and Margo was comical. The scenes with Rowdy just added another layer to the personality that he revealed in Getting Rowdy and then there was Cannon. He was introduced in Getting Rowdy and if I’m not mistaken he became a very quick fan favorite. My prediction is that this book is going to sky rocket his popularity, which is a very good thing. Evidently, Cannon is not only getting his very own book but his story will be the beginning of a new series. I wonder if I have time to back track and finish the Men Who Walk the Edge of Honor series before the new series begins?

While Dash of Peril was not my first Lori Foster book, it was my first time reading the Undercover Love series. Dash of Peril can be read as a stand alone book, like I read it, but I really think to understand all the dimensions to this story and the secondary characters, this is a series that should be read from start to finish. While I was able to dive in to Dash and Margo's story and enjoy myself, I felt like I missed out on a lot of background information that was covered in previous books and if I had read this series in order it might have solved some of issues I had with this story. (My .02)

Dash of Peril is a good contemporary romance with a side of suspense and action. I have read Lori Foster in the past so I knew I was going to get a great, fast paced story with HOT characters but what was surprising was the interesting and complex story that unfolded. Lori Foster is great at creating characters that have depth and layers, they are never what you assume they are going to be like and I love the puzzle they create. Margo and Dash were great together and I really enjoyed their banter and the dance they had before they succumbed to all the tension (and their was a LOT of delicious and HOT tension).

Margo was a woman in control, she was tough, independent and scared to let anyone in and reveal that she wasn't a tough as nails cop all the time. She was very interesting to read and very fun to watch struggle with her desires for Dash and her need to be a the hard-nosed cop. Dash was just a slice of delicious and while I wish I knew more about him I LOVED his character. You can tell there was a past between him and Margo before this book, so I will definitely be going back to "meet" him previous books. If every woman had a Dash in her life, we would all be deliriously happy!

Dash of Peril was a great mix of romance and intrigue, you get steamy sex, nail biting action and a complex story that unfolds and leaves you surprised at the fall out! Lori Foster is definitely an author I enjoy and I will be going back to catch up on this series before the next installment with Cannon comes out!

If you are a fan of romantic suspense, Lori Foster or just a really great story that will whisk you away, then Dash of Peril (or the Undercover Love series) is definitely worth 1-clicking today!

Can this series please please continue? Wait, yes, Cannon's story! Woo Hoo! Lori Foster does write a hot romance. I've enjoyed the entire series from the beginning. This is BY FAR the hottest. Don't read this at lunch hour, you'll be flushed all afternoon. Dash is immediately appealing and has been completely loveable from book 1, Run the Risk, as Logan's supportive and also drool worthy brother. "The Lieutenant" (Margo) took a while to warm up to. She was introduced as the tough Lt. and seeing her in another light took some work of my imagination. Apparently Dash never had that reserve. Most comical moments were when Logan and Reese began to see her as Dash's love interest instead of their Lt. Her family issues were a bit of a drag, her childhood was rough, blah blah blah. it never generated any real sympathy on my part. Just grow up, no one's childhood is perfect. (except maybe Logan / Dash) But the mystery of who is after her life, her incident at the start of the book and Dash's insistent protection of her, and their growing relationship was what made the book AWESOME. Really the love scenes in this book might be some of the best I've ever read. Super hot, but not obscene, no filthy language, just hot. Enjoy!

Lori Foster is one of those authors that I find myself turning to whenever I need a good read with a touch of romance. She doesn't do rainbows and unicorns, which I really appreciate! Her characters are admirable yet still believable, and I can always count on her to get me out of a reading rut. This book is no exception!

Dash is Logan's brother (from book #1 of this series, Run The Risk), and he is more than a little interested in Margo Peterson. Complicating things a bit is that Margo is also Logan's boss, but that doesn't slow Dash down.

While Lieutenant Margo can certainly take care of herself, Dash is determined to be her back-up, whether she wants his help or not. Good thing too, because she's hurt while trying to smoke out a group kidnapping and raping women for black market porn. If Dash wasn't there to help, who knows what might have happened to Margo!

We also learn more about her efforts to root out corruption in her precinct, and get to meet her dysfunctional family. A classic case of a daughter not being able to live up to her father's ideals and always feeling like a disappointment. Then there's a small subplot concerning Margo's sexual preferences, which she thought was a big deal but I found a little anti-climatic (no pun intended). Lots going on in this one, but it never seems rushed or contrived.

Really enjoying this series, and especially like that one of the running themes is the fight against female trafficking. It's an important topic, but Lori doesn't dumb it down in any way, shape, or form. Full of strong, interesting women and men who treat them as such, this is a great series if you like romances!

When I started reading Dash of Peril, I saw what for me are red flags and worried I’d chosen the book poorly. I shouldn’t have. This is an explicit novel. No question about that. But it doesn’t go beyond light dominance games, and most importantly, though it started to sound like it would treat their desires as twisted and broken, that didn’t happen. Even better, the story makes a point of demonstrating the difference between consent and abuse.

This is not a light, happy read. It lives up to the thriller genre with dedicated people putting themselves at risk to stop a group committing violent rapes, taping them, and then murdering some of the victims. The story doesn’t pull punches in the description here either, leaving no doubt as to what is play and what is a crime. It’s enough to turn your stomach at times.

The case they are on combined with revealing how Margaret Peterson had a lousy childhood made me suspect the portrayal would anger the real community into such games. I was set up for another story of how messed up people have to be to want such things. It’s not my scene, and I usually avoid books that go there, but I know enough to understand it’s not about being damaged goods.

Imagine my surprise to discover Dash of Peril is a book about acceptance, love, and overcoming childhood trauma. It’s about taking a moral stance and living up to that standard no matter who has to be held accountable. It’s about doing the right thing and giving yourself the right to be happy. Serious themes, and ones that are important to me.

I kept reading despite my early reservations because the writing is excellent. As much as the dark world it sucked me into made me want to recoil, I didn’t want to stop because of the glimmers of light driven by Margaret and the man she didn’t want to care for, Dashiel Riske.

Margaret is a police lieutenant who has risen quickly through the ranks by leading the fight against corruption in the force. She even pushed her own father out because of his choice to look the other way. She’s hard working, hard-nosed, and just generally considered lacking in any element of softness. Many of the other officers are almost scared of her, though her immediate team has her back, respects her for what she’s doing, and will happily lay their lives on the line for her.

Dashiel is the brother of one of her team, which puts him out of the running as far as she’s concerned. He’s not so willing to put thoughts of her aside. He’s tried, but it didn’t work. A classic issue I have with thrillers is relationships built under pressure don’t seem very strong. Not only have both of them already recognized an attraction before all this comes down, but also they are actively working through their issues in the story while under threat of retaliation from the group Margaret and her team are trying to take down. Dashiel has to learn to temper his protective instincts while Margaret has to admit he can handle himself in a crisis. There are quite a few rocky moments as they figure things out, but their connection is one of the bright lights in this darkness.

The book is, as I said, explicit. It contains detailed descriptions not for the faint of heart on any side. But this very characteristic helps demonstrate the difference between two people in love and people who use sex as a power play. Even more, though, the community dynamics also demonstrate how people should behave when contrasted with the corruption Margaret worked to root out of the police force but which has feelers still lingering in the story. The way the characters, even some minor ones, are forced to grow, the honor and willingness to risk for positive change, and the large cast of wonderful characters make this book one not to miss…as long as you can handle explicit sex and seriously dark evil.

I’m glad I kept going. I’m glad for having my assumptions thrown back in my face. This is a complex, dark statement about the corruption in some and the need to stand up for your friends and neighbors, to make the world a safe place for the good people and an unwelcome one for those who intend harm. It’s a powerful read.

P.S. I received this title from the publisher through NetGalley in return for an honest review.

Fourth in the Love Undercover romance series and revolving around cops in the same department and the people they're close to in Warfield, Ohio. The couple focus is on Lieutenant Peterson and Dash Riske.

My Take
It’s a warm and cozy romance that is mostly about the sex, but Foster does provide a good story to hold it all together. While it escapes insta-love when we learn that Margo “used” Dash as part of her undercover role back when it was officially sanctioned, it still feels a smidge too “insta” on Dash’s part. To be fair, Foster does give us good reasons for why he's fallen in love.

It’s understandable that Margo has to be so very careful in her love life, particularly when we find out her preferences, lol. It makes for an interesting blend in her relationship with Dash, and he’s so great at respecting her professional life and her taking charge, gun out and all. There are some instances where he falls back into the typical male protection mode, but he soon works it out. Margo appreciates Dash's capabilities and strengths as well. That Dash can differentiate between Lieutenant Peterson and Margo.

Margo’s attitude about Dash’s previous sexual experience is perfect, and so very true. I mean, hullo? The BDSM part is odd. The more extreme part of it (and it really is mild) seems out of place with what he usually does with her. As if Foster was trying to inject more of the D/s.

How is it that Curtis believes that if they kill the lieutenant that the police will back off? Doesn’t that usually motivate the cops to hunt the killer down?
”’Find me a woman,’ Curtis ordered.

’Personal use, or for a project?”

Margo’s parents are…jesus…another pair who shouldn’t be licensed for children. Cold, judgmental, selfish. And that’s the good side. You will never believe how her parents react to her accident and injuries. I do love how Dash stands up for her. But we never do find out why her parents weren’t happy having a daughter. Then there's that comment West made: “I’m done keeping quiet about things. It hasn’t helped and in fact has only made matters worse.” I am really curious as to what he means.

There is a bit of back history on what inspired Cannon to protect his neighbors. Why the gym is important to him. Talk about a good guy…

Oh, lol, I love the implication of that ending, with Dash joining the wives at their table and Margo joining the boys at the bar. It’s so perfectly them and so very appropriate…
”Respect comes in all shapes and sizes, honey, and you know it.
It includes caring about boundaries, about desires and demands.”

The Story
Too stubborn to give up, Lieutenant Peterson has been unofficially undercover, hunting the sick men kidnapping women and forcing them to participate in seedy porn movies. A gamble that seems to be working when Cannon brings news of a contract hit being offered. On Margaret Peterson.

It's a dark time for Margo until Dash inserts himself into her life and shows her a dark side of his own that may well match her own. It's that slow-burning sexiness beneath Margo's tough façade that drives Dash crazy. And as their mission takes a lethal turn, he'll have to prove he's all the man she needs — in all the ways that matter…

The Characters
The ballbusting Lieutenant Margaret “Margo” Peterson has worked hard to head up her department. Oliver is the blind cat she rescued. Her mother, Marsha, is cold and standoffish. Her father, Martin, is a schmuck of a bully with a huge chip on his shoulder. And I do mean HUGE. He was also chief of police before he “retired”. Her brother, West, is also a cop, head of the Drug and Vice Investigation Unit, and I don’t know what to make of him.

Dashiel "Dash" Riske is Logan’s younger brother, and unlike his brother, is very interested in Margo as a woman. Both brothers are wealthy but prefer to work; Dash has his own construction company. Detective Logan Riske is friends and partners with Detective Reese Bareden. Reese is married to Alice ( Bare It All , 2); in Getting Rowdy , they took in Marcus. Logan is married to Pepper ( Run the Risk , 1).

Dan Ford is the police commander and Margo’s boss. There’s a very iffy relationship between these two. Karen Ford is his ex-wife. Williams is the fire chief.

Getting Rowdy is…
…Rowdy Yates’ bar ( Getting Rowdy , 3), a former con man who has become friends with a small group of cops. His wife, Avery, is his bartender.

Cannon Colter, an up-and-coming MMA fighter, is a young man concerned about protecting his neighborhood. He’s started a gym to get at-risk kids like Leo off the street. Armie Jacobson is a fighter who’s good with kids. Simon Evans and Dean “Havoc” Conor are famous in the MMA fighting world. Drew Black owns SBC Fight Club.

Tipton Sweeny runs a pawnshop. His granddaughter, Yvette, helps out and has a crush on Cannon. Dr. Westberry treats Margo after the T-boning that provides Dash his opportunity.

Curtis, he thinks his wealth allows him to do as he pleases, and Saul Boyle are brothers with perverse interests. Toby is the third man in their crew. He thinks it’s sexy to force a woman, makes him feel like a man…gag…

The Cover and Title
The cover is Dash in a gray, fitted T and blue jeans against a bright blue sky, and framed by the stud walls of his latest construction project. The author’s name and title is in an embossed silver.

The title is the risk they both run, it's a Dash of Peril on both sides of that coin.

*I received a free ARC of Dash of Peril from Harlequin via Netgalley in exchange of an honest review*

Dash of Peril is delightful because there is both a lot of excitement, and a lot of romance. And I just love stories where one of the protagonists is doing whatever they can to not fall in love, because the longing is so awesome. And when they do finally fall, it’s delicious to read about. Margo is a cop, and she’s very good at her job. This means that she doesn’t often have the time to be with a man, especially because her needs in the bedroom are very different from the toughness she wants to show as the chief, with mostly men working at her orders. Dash is a great male lead, too, because even if he respects Margo in every way, he realizes that her feelings for him might be a lot stronger than she lets on, and he will not let her slip away from him this time.

There is a lot of danger and darkness in Dash of Peril, especially because the case Margo is working is a very tough one. Several women have been drugged and kidnapped, then used in underground pornos. Some of them didn’t survive their ordeal, while others have been scarred for life. Margo can never abide with violence against women, and she is ready to put herself at risk to come to the bottom of the crime ring that is behind the kidnappings. Dash comes to her rescue when she is ambushed after a van runs into her car on purpose, and because she needs to be woken every two hours, he goes home with her… And the innuendoes begin.

The writing in Dash of Peril is flawless, it is fast paced, action-filled, and the romantic scenes are filled with both a lot of longing and a little humor. The characters I already knew and loved from Getting Rowdy are all present in Dash of Peril, too, and it felt good to see how they were all doing. If you’re looking for romance that has a big mystery and some suspense, with a very strong (and strong-minded!) female lead, this is a book for you.

As the lieutenant of the police department, Margo Peterson demands a lot of herself. Still cleaning house in a corrupt police department, there are few officers she trusts absolutely. Because of this, she has gone undercover herself to infiltrate a ring of criminals who abduct and molest women on film. As capable as any man on the force, Margo goes in without backup, setting herself up as bait in local bars. What she didn’t count on was Dash Riske appointing himself as her personal guardian. He’s a civilian, and a distraction she can’t seem to resist, no matter how hard she tries.

Dash might respect Margo as a strong women and exemplary police detective, but the way he feels about her makes it impossible for him to let her work this case without backup. He trusts her abilities and judgment, but can’t help but worry that this case is more than any one person can handle. With his brother working as a detective under Margo’s command, Dash has become more familiar than other civilians with the hazards this case poses. Dash makes sure he is always nearby when he finds Margo trying to lure the kidnappers. He’ll keep her safe, no matter the cost to himself, and hopefully convince this headstrong, independent woman that she needs him as much as he needs her in the process.

‘Dash of Peril’ by Lori Foster is the fourth book in the author’s ‘Love Undercover’ series and a welcome addition to fans of Ms. Foster’s work. Dash and Margo have both appeared as intriguing supporting characters in the other books of this saga, and waiting patiently for their story has proven difficult. Having now finished reading their story, I can say this book was well worth the wait.

Both characters surpassed my expectations, and I ended the book admiring each of them. Margo is more than a strong police detective – she is also an intelligent, caring, loving woman who has more than her share of family issues. Dash is the kind of man who can get any woman’s motor running, certainly, but this alpha male shows a sensitive side that guarantees Margo won’t be able to resist him. He is so in tune with Margo’s needs and is willing to fulfill those needs, whatever they may be. He will stand up for her when he sees fit, but also stand quietly in the background while she takes care of things. He is careful to never diminish her status as a lieutenant or a strong woman and supports her like no one in her life ever has. For Margo, this is a welcome change after a life of neverending drama courtesy of her family. With her family, she never feels good enough – Dash is the first person who has ever accepted her just as she is.

Their romance is cleverly woven through the action packed subplot, which also gives us more insight into some additional supporting characters, whetting the readers’ appetite for the next book in this series.

I have thoroughly enjoyed every book in the ‘Love Undercover’ series so far, and ‘Dash of Peril’ was even better than I had hoped. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys romance novels with a good bit of action-adventure in them. Although a part of a series, this book can be read as a standalone novel without difficulty.

The fourth installment in the Love Undercover series, Dash of Peril by Lori Foster is a super sexy romance. This fast paced story is also action filled as lead protagonists Margo Peterson and Dash Riske investigate a porn ring. When Margo is injured following an attempt on her life, Dash eagerly volunteers to stay with her until she fully recovers from her injuries.

Following in her family’s law enforcement footsteps, Margo has quickly risen through the ranks to become the youngest lieutenant on the force. She is strong, independent and fearless when it comes to her job. No nonsense and fully in charge while on duty, off duty is a whole other story. When it comes to her love life, Margo yearns to cede control but trying to keep her tough as nails reputation intact leaves her few options to fully explore her yearnings.

Dash is laid back and easygoing most of the time but under the right set of circumstances, he is more than willing to give his dominant side free reign. He is also ultra protective of the people he cares about and he will go to any lengths to keep them safe. Dash has never had any interest in law enforcement but when Margo’s life is in danger, he does not hesitate to put the skills that he learned from his cop brother Logan to good use. And when Dash picks up on Margo’s carefully hidden submissive desires, he is more than happy to give her exactly what has been craving.

Dash and Margo are great characters and they perfectly complement one another. Dash’s feelings for Margo run deeper than desire but Margo has kept him at arms’ length for quite some time. Dash brings out a softer, more feminine side of Margo and he helps her accept all the different facets of her personality. The sexual attraction between them is quite strong and their sex scenes are a little playful and a whole lot sexy with a bit of a D/s element. However, the sexual aspect sometimes overpowers the rest of the storyline.

The other story arc dealing with the investigation into the porn ring is interesting, although somewhat predictable. The bad guys are detestable, but they feel one dimensional. There is some intrigue as to who might be after Margo and again, it was easy enough to figure out the who and the why.

The secondary characters are from past novels in the series and they play an integral role to the unfolding story. Logan and Reese work for Margo, they have the utmost respect for her and they always have her back. Rowdy is also on deck to lend a hand and give Margot some much needed love life advice. In addition, Cannon Colter has information that cracks the case wide open and the changes in his life set the stage for a forthcoming spin off series.

Dash of Peril is an outstanding conclusion to the Love Undercover series. It is another passion filled romance and fast paced mystery that is sure to delight old and new fans. All of the loose ends are nicely wrapped up and Lori Foster’s epilogue is an absolutely perfect ending to the novel!

I received a complimentary copy for review.

We already met Margo & Dash in the previous books! Dash is Logan's brother and Margo is Logan & Reese's boss - their Lieutenant!

Margo is still spending her time sitting around in bars hoping she'll be able to draw out the bad guys who are abducting girls to abuse & use them for porn videos.

Finally it seems to pay off, but unfortunately they don't abduct her - they cause a car crash that leaves Margo injured and helpless waiting in her car for them to finish her off.
BUT - Dash was following her - to make sure she'll get home ok ☺

After they fight off the killers, Dash insists to move in with her - to play nurse ;)

Dash never saw Margo the way his brother and buddy did - as the stone-cold Lieutenant!
For him she's all woman. But she never seemed to want to act on their attraction - even though he could sense that there was some attraction on her side too.

But now things change ☺ she's on pain meds half the time - and they seem to turn her into a flirting, teasing, sexual being! ☺☺ And Dash is just the kind of dominant man she was waiting for - not that she would ever admit that ☺

- there will be LOTS of sexy moments ☺
- dangerous moments too of course - it IS a romantic suspense novel ;)
- there will be lots of Kerosine!

and YES we will see Logan and Reese again - our favorite COPS ♥
and lets not forget Rowdy!!!
and of course we meet CANNON again ☺
remember him from the last book? He's a MMA fighter and some kind of self proclaimed neighborhood-protector-angel ☺ He'll get his own book in September - which will be the start of a new fighting series!!! ☺☺☺

I REALLY LOVED THE BOOK!!

Just like the first 3 books in the series - DASH OF PERIL is an extremely sexy, romantic and suspensy book.

This was an amazing romantic suspense series! I loved ALL books and more important - ALL CHARACTERS - and that's not something that happens a lot. You always find something you can't stand - but those 4 guys here and their girls are all really wonderfully written! (Cannon too of course ☺ - can't wait to read more about him!)

This book had EVERYTHING I love in a book - sexy scenes - suspensy scenes - sad and moving scenes..

Dash is soo adorably cute. The way he accepts Margo and her need to appear strong in front of her detectives.
And Margo - how she slowly comes out of her hard shell and how she's finally daring to try this love thing...

Maybe, just maybe, she could be both a woman and a lieutenant.

DASH OF PERIL is a wonderfully sexy suspense Romance!!

But please don't forget to read the first 3 books before reading Dashiel's story!

Now I can't wait for the next book - Cannon's story: NO LIMITS - the beginning of a brand new series - coming in August 2014:

NO LIMITS

Dashiel "("Dash") Riske is Logan's brother from the first book in this series. Dash was pretty much in the background in the other books until he finally got his own story. I never saw the exciting side of Dash until he hooked up with LT. Margaret ("Margo") Peterson, at the very end of Rowdy's book (Getting Rowdy). Dash helps Margo with the case she is working on, trying to solve sex crimes being committed against women. Margo wants to capture them using herself as bait.
.
In the other books we see Margo as a hard ass cop, who commands respect from the men on her team. She really wants their respect and to see her as a ball buster who can do her job as efficiently as any man.

Then, we meet up with Margo again in this book and see her growing attraction to Dash. It was great to finally be introduced to the softer side of Margo and it made me really like her allot more. Dash is so protective of Margo but understands her needs to be tough at her job as long as she can show her submissive side with him and let her hair down.

It takes some time to get Margo on board but Dash knows what he wants and isn't about to back away from her.

Margo's family life was dysfunctional. Her father treated her as one of the guys, never showing any tenderness. He never even wanted a daughter. She does have a brother named West who shows support for her. Her father casts suspicion in this book that will be revealed in the end.

Of course there is going to be the adrenaline rush as the bad guys close in but that was what kept me turning the pages.

I especially loved how Logan, Reese and Rowdy started to accept her softer side and they actually all embraced it.

The whole series was entertaining and romantic. Make sure to read the series in order. Otherwise you will miss important facts since each book leads into the next.

*************************

I have a feeling that Lori Foster is going to have a spin off series using Cannon and Yvette because they played a rather substantial role in this book and for their part, the relationship was left as a cliffhanger.

Holy.Freaking.Hotness. I love you Lori Foster...I love you. I thought Logan's book was going to be my favorite in this series, but nope...his brother's gets that honor. Since we didn't see a whole lot of Dash in the 3 previous books in the Love Undercover series I really didn't know what to expect and was I pleasantly surprised! Dash is pretty much everything you could want in a man...why does he only exist in a book?!? He's caring, thoughtful, confident, considerate, manly, and woowee is he a whole lotta sexy, in what I think is an understated way. He was the perfect fit for tough little Lieutenant Margo! He understood her job was very important to her, and although he is definitely an alpha male and it was hard for him, he did his best to step out of the way and not interfere with the work she needed to do. It was nice to see her loosen up and show her softer side with him.
All the Love Undercover books were hot, but this one had me squirming in my seat...good lord Dash can work it!
I really enjoyed how this series intertwined and brought back the characters from each previous book, and even snuck Simon and Havoc in there...can't wait for Cannon's story.

Dash of Peril is the story of Margaret "Margo" Peterson and Dashiel "Dash" Riske are two police officers who team up to bring down a ring of abductors. This is the fourth book written by Lori Foster, with cameos by characters from the first three books in the series. Whether there will be more to this series is up for discussion.

Although this book is the fourth, it easily stands alone. It is well-written in very colloquial language, suggestive of modern times. Without giving away any plot details, it is a book about a stubborn woman police officer who is injured in the line of duty. Her partner for this investigation is Dash, who grows to understand her stubborn ways and falls in love with her. Around the main part of the story is how they bring down the abduction ring.

Overall, it is a good, quick read with some good sexy moments and some suspense. It is the perfect summer beach read.

Lori Foster is just one of those authors where you know whatever she releases next will be great! "Dash of Peril" is a stand-alone book, but it is part of the Love Undercover series. It has romance and suspense, and quickly grabbed your attention from the get-go! After all, someone t-boned Lieutenant Margaret "Margo" Peterson's car in the first chapter! Who has a hit out for her?

One thing I enjoyed about this book is the relationship between Dash Riske and Margo. Margo is a no non-sense female, who is pretty bad ass! She doesn't have an official partner, but Dash makes himself her partner. He cares for her and will do everything he can to protect her. The way he sees it, the bad guys saw him with Margo, so he's very much a part of this case.

Of course, we get to see some of our favorite characters -- Logan, Reese, Rowdy, and Cannon! They helped with the investigation, so we see them a lot as all these crimes take place. You also get to see Cannon interact with Yvette. I was just looking at Lori's upcoming books, so I'm happy to see Cannon and Yvette will have their story told later this year in "No Limits"!

"Dash of Peril" is a wonderful book, and any Lori Foster fan would love it!

I must start by saying…Dash, I totally love you and your five-O’clock shadow, your calm, easy going personality and your fierce dominating lovin’!!!

Dash is all that and he cooks, builds stuff, can fight and shoot straight! Gotta love that man. He also has the most easy going, relaxed, alpha personality that I have read in romance. To say that Lori hit this one out of the park would sell it short…she hit it so far that cars across that street were hit with the proverbial ball!

Margo was the perfect heroine for Dash. Yes she was no frills, straight shooting and independent. But she was also a genuine, compassionate, loving woman and friend. She let her guard down to Dash and he moved right in! I loved how these two played push and pull with their dominance. When appropriate one was the dominant force, but then just as quickly, they would reverse roles. The switch was authentic and totally in character every time. Every dang time!

Dash was exactly the man needed for Margo and the two together

Totally didn’t think the book could get better and then my one of my oldest book boyfriends showed up (Havoc) and with my other boyfriend being mentioned…ahhh, Drew Black…can’t wait to get more of that man!!!

So looking forward to Lori’s newest series…momma is going back to the MMA! Pick this one up!!! Enjoy!

Lori Foster does it again! Dash of Peril is an action packed and fast-paced romantic suspense. A great addition to Foster’s Love Undercover series.

Dash and Margo share a chemistry that is sizzling hot. Through the majority of the book though the two struggle to connect on an emotional level. I think this is mostly due to how closed off Margo is regarding considering Dash in a romantic way.

Although this is a romance, the story in my opinion focused more on the suspense and mystery aspects of the plotline. Margo’s hunt to bring down the bad guys before another victim is taken, along with the mystery of who is behind the personal threats Margo has been getting turns this into a real page-turner.

Overall, I really enjoyed this fun and entertaining read. I think it was a great conclusion to the Love Undercover series and a nice set-up for the spinoff series featuring Cannon Colter. I would recommend this to anyone that enjoys intense, suspenseful, and sizzling romantic reads.

This is the last book in Lori Foster's `Love Undercover' series, telling the story of Dashiel Riske and Lieutenant Margaret "Margo" Peterson. While this book can easily stand on it's own, you really get the full sense of the characters by reading the other books in the series as well. Ms Foster is has a writing style that I want to dislike, so I'm always surprised when she keeps pulling me back in. The series is very formulaic and each tale reveals a the super hot "bad boy" guy who can't be tied down, goes through girl after girl until he meets a somewhat reserved "nice" girl with a dark past. They are immediately attracted to each other and then must overcome her past, his past, multiple misunderstandings, trust issues, and any random bad guys who stand in their way in order to fall in love. It certainly is a little cliché. But for some reason, it works. Until now. I really loved Dash as a side character in her other books. But I could never get into Margo. She's supposed to be this tough as nails, all business, no nonsense head of the police department. Yet in no time, Dash is walking through the police department, strolling into her office unannounced, and groping her in front of the police officers and detectives who work for her. Um, awkward. And she always seems to get her shirt ripped off in like every altercation with criminals. I'm all for a strong female lead character, and props to Ms Foster for at least trying to add a new dynamic to her usual character development. But it just didn't work here.

I would have rated this much lower, but give it 3 stars for Cannon and Yvette who show up as supporting characters and steal the show. So, while I was disappointed Dash and Margo, I am still drawn back for a new series. Can't wait to see what happens with Cannon and Yvette.

Margo Peterson is a tough as nails police lieutenant. She has recently brought down several members of the force in a corruption sting that made enemies. She takes pride in her skills as a cop, her integrity, as well as her lack of sentimentality. She has a strong sex drive and a history of anonymous, uncommitted sex with total strangers. Dash Riske is the brother of one of the cops under her command, and he is determined to get Margo into a relationship. Margo has begun an investigation into a ring of pornographers that kidnap, drug and then rape the women they film. During the investigation, someone tries to murder her, and she, Dash, his brother and other members of their circle of investigators (some cops, some not) try to find out who. Is it the pornographers? Cops holding a grudge from the corruption scandal? Margo has been estranged from her own father and brother who took the other side during the scandal, and even they are suspects. I had a hard time relating to Margo, who just seemed too hard boiled to find appealing, but I gradually "got" her, after more detail of her background came out. Dash is a charmer, with his own appeal, and they make a believable couple. I also just like Lori Foster's circle of characters in this series, and enjoyed spending time with them again. This wasn't the best in the series, but was entertaining.

Lori Foster is an artist with words.
I began this book with trepidation not sure how she would be able to make me invest in a character I wasn't prepared to like. Margo didn't leave me with a good impression in Getting Rowdy so I really didn't think this was going to be a good time.
Well kudos to you, Lori Foster, for finding a winning balance between tough, take charge bossiness and vulnerable, femininity.
And really... could there have been a more suitable, incredible man to go along with Margo than Dash? A man who wasn't afraid to let the woman call the shots but still managed to keep his Alpha Man Card intact!
This was a great ride of steamy romance and suspense as well as a touching tale of personal growth and risk taking.
Loved every moment of it and I'm so excited to see what becomes of Cannon! How Ms. Foster keeps cranking out such amazing men, I don't know... but I'm so thrilled be along for the ride!

Dash of Peril is the fourth book in author Lori Foster’s Love Undercover series. I was so excited to get to Dash’s story and oh my, this by far was to hottest book of the series to date and I loved it!
Lieutenant Margaret “Margo” Peterson is used to down playing the fact that she’s a woman. She has worked damn hard to get her position as lieutenant and being a bit hard assed came with the territory. She had more to prove as a female and her fellow officers respected that about her. But sometimes being a woman had its advantages and right now, working on the type of case she was currently, was one of those times. She was on the hunt for the people responsible for repeat crimes involving the drugging and raping of innocent women. She realizes she is getting closer when she’s almost killed…most likely by the people she’s trying to catch. Now she’s injured and pissed. Pissed at the dirt bags responsible but also because she finds herself in need of help while recovering and getting that help from Dash. She has been desperately trying to ignore her attraction toward him and his advances toward her but now with him in her house, staying with her night after night, she realizes it may be a losing battle. Surely he would go running for the hills if he ever learned what she liked in the bedroom…right? It didn’t matter though because she wouldn’t let things get that far. Or would she?
Dash Riske has had a thing for Margo for far too long and now she needs his help. Even if she won’t admit it. There was no way he would let her stay alone to recuperate. Not with her life on the line. He knew she was tough as nails and was more than capable of taking care of herself, hell, it was one of the things he loved about her, but he wasn’t going to leave her to face this debacle alone. And maybe, just maybe, this would be the opportunity he’s been needing to prove that they could be great together. This could be the chance to get her to open up to him and let her walls down and to let him in. He wanted that so damn badly he could taste it. She’s everything he wanted. Smart, tough, ballsy, and no-nonsense all wrapped up in a beautiful package with a killer body. One thing was for sure: when Dash had his eye on something, he got it. And he would get Margo. She was the ultimate prize for him.
Dash and Margo go through a boatload of drama which brings them closer than either one of them could have imagined. When all is said and done though, will what they’ve found in each other be enough to take a chance on? For the long haul?
I will say it again, this book was insanely hot! The chemistry between Dash and Margo is scorching and their personalities play beautifully off of one another with so much heat and intensity that I was practically panting while reading. Margo is a tough gal. She’s had to be and I totally get why she has a really hard time letting her hair down, so to speak. But underneath her tough exterior is a woman. It’s hard for her to almost lead two separate lives. The tough lieutenant vs the woman she is…and what she wants when she’s with a man. But leave it to Dash to figure her out. He’s had her number from the very first chapter and there was no way she was going to escape that man. He’s smoking hot, caring, attentive and knows exactly what she needs. And when he gives it to her? Oh my yum. Of course beyond all the steamy hot time spent together, they are working on solving one hell of a crime and if there’s one thing Lori does so well, it’s write suspenseful nail-biting moments. There was also a bit of a shocker at the end when they figure out who is really behind the drugs and rapes. My lips are sealed but be ready for a “whoa” moment!
And of course another thing to love about this book is seeing the rest of the gang: Rowdy, Cannon, Reese, Logan…and did I mention Cannon? I do love me some Cannon and I am DYING for his book!
Overall, Lori Foster fans will love this latest installment and if you aren’t a Lori fan yet, get your hands on a copy of Dash of Peril. You won’t be disappointed!

Last year I was introduced to the Love Undercover series with Getting Rowdy. With it's broody, swoony hero, the romance and suspense, I found it to be a fun read. The end of that book began leading us toward Dash of Peril, so I obviously wanted to get to know the yummy Dash.

Dash of Peril picks up four months after the end of Getting Rowdy, with that minor arc picking up again and leading this story. With a Lieutenant heroine and a civilian hero, Dash of Peril has an interesting dynamic, a true reversal of typical gender roles, particularly in romantic suspense. Here we have Margo trying to protect Dash and becoming frustrated when he doesn't listen. And Dash is frustrated bc he wants to help Margo, but she's worried about his safety. He finds it a bit annoying and offensive, but knowing that she is the boss (in this case) he goes along, has Margo's back, and lets her take the lead.

Margo is truly a strong heroine, knows who she is, and how to get her job done. She is prickly in the beginning, and sometimes her defensiveness irked me. But there is a reason for her harshness, she comes from a law enforcement family, with a nice enough brother but complete jerks for parents. They've made it plain that wish they'd had another son instead, belittle her when she's injured, and are simply awful. It's no wonder Margo is so rigid and afraid of being less than perfect. Tough and in control Margo also has a secret: she likes it when a man takes control in bed, and typically engages in anonymous sex so it doesn't affect her "real life". It is very hard for her to reconcile her two sides, especially with a man whom she knows, and that leads to her reluctance with Dash.

Dash Riske was a great hero. By most accounts, he's pretty alpha, but I was happily surprised to see that he didn't jump into Margo's life and work and force her to do things his way. Knowing that respect in her job depends on her strong demeanor, he was careful to not undermine her. That was so great! But, one place Dash was the boss was in the bedroom. Margo's desire for submission, to let that control go, feeds into Dash's need to be super bossy in the bedroom.

As far as the suspense part, with Dash of Peril picking up a few months after Getting Rowdy, we immediately learn Margo is back undercover trying to busy a kidnapping/porn ring. I like that Margo is proactive and tenacious. What I don't like is continually having the tough, smart heroine making reckless decisions. For example, continuing to go undercover against her boss' orders, and doing it alone. What part of going to bars very late at night, pretending to be drunk, having a few drinks, is supposed to be smart? Reckless is the better word here. I will say that as the story progresses, Margo does begin to make better choices. I would just like to have seen her be a bit more rational in the beginning. And the bad guys? They were idiots. They did everything the hard, stupid way. At one point, one of the good guys even mentioned how stupid they were. Give me a smart bad guy to fear and I will be on board.

Dash of Peril is a long book, four hundred, seventy-five pages. Sometimes, more is necessary, but in this case, the book could've easily been seventy-five pages shorter. We had a lot of repetition between Dash and Margo, and much set-up for the next book in the series.

Despite my irritation, I did find this to be a good story. If you're a fan of the Love Undercover series, I think you will enjoy Dash of Peril.

Favorite Quote

When she didn't pull away, Dash leaned in again, nudging her lips apart with his own. She relaxed at the damp touch of his tongue, first tracing her lips and then dipping inside.
God, he tasted good, like a man should. Her heart pumped faster. More so than the average guy, Dash was muscular from work in his construction company. Tall, handsome, friendly...and sexy.

Get out the fire extinguisher, this story is scorching! It’s one long, slow seduction that builds and builds until it explodes in scenes of out of control passion. Margo and Dash’s convoluted romance is woven in amongst a very suspenseful and dramatic plot that pits their fledging trust and love against a dastardly scheme. Many times it was almost impossible for me to step away from the book – so much happens in each chapter, I was hooked.

Ms. Foster presented two dynamic characters to work her magic with. Margo is the hard-edged, take-no-prisoners heroine who is a police lieutenant who doesn’t know how to relax, and Dash, the hero, who seems like relaxing is all he does. It’s amazing how deceiving the surface of a person can be. The author wasted no time in sharing the sparks between the two protagonists and truly, the first two chapters are a doozy. In them, the author sealed my interest and invested me 100% in caring for her hero and heroine because the action starts almost immediately and danger flavors the drama to a startling degree. There wasn’t any skipped paragraphs or glossing over any scenes – everything is pertinent, intense and fascinating. A must read.

The sensual tease is extreme. Dash’s plan is to love Margo into loving him. It sounds impossible until I saw his plan in action. Wow, does that man know his way around a woman’s body. And his words! His intent! Never mind his delivery – the hero isn’t so laid back and fickle as everyone seems to believe. He proves it without a doubt in Dash of Peril. Not only that, but having a brother who is also a police officer has given him an edge when it comes to crisis and he proves his mettle many times throughout the novel. Maybe he was a bit too good to be true, but I didn’t care. It was all part of telling a great story that entertains and believe me, I was highly entertained.

Margo’s character is the one that has the most to gain, lose, learn and grow. Dash was her sounding board and her catalyst for change. She certainly enjoyed the process and the author took great pains to make a reader understand just how much of a challenge it was for her to adjust, open up and believe in someone. At times it was painful and many times it was beautiful. It was also very sexy.

This tale is also an emotional roller coaster due to subject matter. The mystery is finding out who is committing the crimes, the drama comes from the bad guys targeting Margo and the suspense comes from hoping no one dies but never really being sure if anyone is going to come to the rescue in time and if any of the villains were going to get away. The topic of the crime is disturbing as I’m sure it was meant to be. I didn’t like it at all but that is why it was so important for the good guys to win – vile things like that should be stopped.

Although there was an intense external plot conflict, the internal one for Margo was rather sad. She comes from a very cold, dysfunctional family so it makes sense that her opening up to Dash would be such a leap of faith. The hardest part was towards the end, when she really believed the worst. That broke my heart.

I’m going to reiterate how intensely sexual this book is. Dash is commanding and Margo slowly learns to accept that being submissive does not equate with being weak. Not at all. Ms. Foster practically singed off my eyebrows with some of the scenes, so get ready.

Secondary characters are extremely important in the telling of this novel. Many I remember reading about when they were the stars of their own books so it was an absolute thrill to see them in action again, but rest assured this is completely a standalone book. If anything, reading about Logan or Rowdy only made me want to read their stories again. There is a reason they are on my keeper shelf.

I would be negligent if I didn’t mention the kitty. It’s a great touch, and it provided a wonderful ‘awwww!’ factor. I loved reading how the cat reacted in many scenes. It was very telling and important and the best was how Dash interacted with Margo’s pet. So sweet – how could I not love Dash as a hero?

I know I’m leaving a ton out because this was a very busy book. There are so many other aspects of the book worth sharing but I think it’s best to just read, enjoy and be surprised. I had a blast reading Dash of Peril and I highly recommend it to all readers of sexy romantic suspense. It’s a sure winner and, the crime element notwithstanding, a very fun book indeed.

Title: Dash of Peril

Series: Love Undercover bk 4

Author: Lori Foster

Genre: Contemporary, Romantic Suspense

A no-nonsense female cop reluctantly teams up with the one man who makes her lose control in a deliciously sensual new novel from New York Times bestselling author Lori Foster...

Thoughts: What happens when an author you love, is one of your go to authors when you are having a bad day writes a series that is meh for you? You still read those books and hope that just t little of what drew you to her in the first place is in the book somewhere. Sometimes you find it and sometimes you don't.

In Foster's latest series we have met some great heroes, heroes that remind me of my why I love her books. But her heroines, they have all fallen flat for me. With the build up Margo's character over the last three books I was really hoping for more from her. While she wasn't bad, she wasn't great either. She didn't push Dash away when she needed help, in fact she let him move in and be there for her in a way that she'd never let anyone be there before.

Dash was a great character. He knew what kind of woman Margo was going in, and he accepted her for who she was. He was also there when she needed support and was willing to do what was necessary to help her catch the bad guys.

As much as I loved Dash, Cannon a character we met in the last book really stole the book for me. I found myself wanting more of his story line, and less of the main characters.

The story line is one that isn't a surprise to those who have read the other books in this series. Foster has alluded it to in Rowdy and I think Reese's book. It's one that while I have struggled with, for personal reasons. I have a hard time reading books when there are crimes against women and children, thus it has made it hard for me to get into these books.

Overall this is an okay book. It wasn't as good as books Foster has written in the past, but it wasn't horrible either. I guess my number one complaint was the book was too dark. A theme that has happened in the last couple of series for Foster. While the writing is still stellar, the story and plot weren't what I want when I read a Lori Foster book.

The fourth installment of Foster’s Love undercover series brings us Margo, a police lieutenant who is working to discover who is behind a rash of kidnappings where victims are coerced into making adult films. Placing herself in the mix as bait, she has taken this case on as a personal challenge, and this will endanger her life. Returning home after a night of surveillance, her car is smashed by the perpetrators who want to send a message, and if she dies, so be it.

Dashiel Riske (love the allusion to Dashiell Hammet the classic author of Maltese Falcon and Thin Man) is the brother of Logan, and has always been fascinated with Margo. Fortunately for Margo, he has decided to keep an eye on her and act as a partner, even as Margo wishes to keep on ignoring the fact that she can use the help.

Margo is an interesting character: determined, good at what she does, and constantly battling against the idea that she is a woman in a man’s job. Even when the men in her circle don’t always see her as ‘weaker’, her hard-headed push everyone away attitude is more of an obstacle to her achieving her goals in the force than any actual weaknesses on her part. It was difficult NOT to like her, even when she was acting without thinking of her own safety; this woman cares about the victims and truly wants to solve the case, not for the accolades but to protect those who can’t always protect themselves.

Dash is a bit of a ladies man, and has that protect the womenfolk streak that is miles wide: even when he is inserting himself in situations that make him appear a complete chauvinist, it is done with one goal as well: protect those who can’t always protect themselves. And that is what really made him endearing in this story. Even with his heavy-handed treatment of Margo, coming in the guise of caring for and partnering her in the case, his initial instincts are all for the end result: protection.

Of course, the two have a chemistry that is off the charts: even as Margo is running in the other direction, Dash has no option but to try and get her to see his perspective. He wants her, he is attracted to her, and she will, despite all decisions to the contrary acknowledge that she wants him too. What struck me most about Dash was his willingness to allow Margo her space and recognize that she was competent and capable, and give her the opportunity to use her talents and brains rather than always inserting his opinions: Dash listens to Margo, he sees the strength there, he just wants to be sure she is as safe as possible.

The story is peppered with threads that have been running through this series: while this volume is more focused on human trafficking and the kidnappings, the issue of corruption within the force has had some movement, and Margo’s determination to weed out the ‘bad cops’ in the department has not endeared her to others who are operating on that razor’s edge. And she is also struggling with the lack of parental pride or a job well done from her own father, the former Chief: those childhood moments and determination to be recognized as good, worthy and not just the daughter who went into policing weigh on Margo. This take charge woman during the day is far more able to give that control away in the bedroom, a submissive by nature her pliancy and trust in Dash, when given is a gift that he treasures almost as much as the woman himself.

It was nice to see their relationship develop in a manner that felt natural, despite the fact that circumstances and Margo’s injuries threw them together and left her more reliant on another person than she would have wished. Dash’s careful management of that delicate situation as he worked to show her that they would be good together was an exercise in patience: his and the reader’s. As she started to feel more comfortable in her relationship with Dash, and allow herself to attach to him, that confidence and security started to show in her other relationship dynamics, and Margo started to display the strength that was there, rather than always telling people to search for it. That small shift in her own confidence made huge changes, she’s growing and learning that being a woman isn’t a negative or something to overcome.

I really enjoyed this story and the growth that Margo attains in her struggles against then with Dash, finding her own identity and deciding that being a couple is also a source of strength and comfort for her. Dash is seriously hot, and the two are steamy together, add in the tension from the corruption issues and the kidnappings, and this becomes a page-turner.

I received a paperback copy from Media Muscle/Book Trib for purpose of honest review for this tour. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility

Quick Summary
Dash Riske has always seen the "woman" inside the tough, alpha Lieutenant Margaret Peterson (he calls her Margo). She's rebuffed him, even when he was helping her in an undercover role. It's when she's suddenly attacked that her relationship with Dash changes dramatically and overnight.

The suspense?
The story has many moments of high suspense followed by drawn out lulls. In the moments of suspense, it's very exciting, with lots of action and tension. Margo is tough and resilient and you get why she earned her command. I just wish the pacing of the story was better to keep the tension in place.

The characters?
Dash has always been very likable, almost affable. Until this story, I didn't know much about him and this story served him well. He's pretty fearless and I really liked how he could see the other side of Margo. It was great to see her vulnerable side and to know her face wasn't just a veneer, just the more prominent of her personality. There's a lot to respect about her and I loved how the alpha men under her command considered her formidable and worthy of her role.

The romance?
While I really liked both Dash and Margo individually, I struggled with them as a couple initially. Their sexual relationship was sensual, erotic and off-the-charts sexy. It was the foundation for both developing deeper feelings for each other. It just seemed one-sided for most of the story, with Dash chasing in a somewhat subordinate way and Margo being a bit too dismissive of him...not taking the man seriously. In the end it works out but so often I winced during their interactions.

The bottom line
Even with my issues concerning the romance, I enjoyed this story a lot. It was interesting and included the characters from the earlier stories. And, I fell for Cannon Colter in the last book and this one set him up nicely for the spinoff series. I've really enjoyed Love Undercover and am glad to have seen Margo get the kind of relationship she deserved. It was a fitting end to the series. 3.5 stars.

I am a big Lori Foster fan and love, love, love this series! I will admit that I wasn't sure how much I was going to like this book. We'd seen him throughout the other books but not too much. And I wasn't sure how I would like Margo either but I am so happy that this book blew my reservations out of the water.

Let's start with the characters. Margo is a badass lieutenant-Logan and Reese's boss- who has taken it upon herself to try to take down a the ring of men that are abducting women and filming them in forced sexual situations. Any woman's nightmare right? Well Margo is ruthless and with her ruthlessness, she gains the attention of the bad guys and that's when it starts getting dicey. But Margo is all steel and ice and cool under pressure, even when in sticky situations. But we get to see another side of her with Dash. He brings out her soft, gooey center which made me really like Margo more than I thought I would. And Dash. Dash. Dash. Dash. Ok so I wasn't sure if Dash was going to be man enough for the ball busting Margo but geez was I wrong! I admit while reading I had more than one instance where I my eyes got slightly wide and found myself smirking. That man can melt the panties off any woman. That man gave off waves of confidence and how he was in the bedroom, shoo! Talk about alpha male! And if that wasn't enough, he's one of those men who knows what he wants and goes for it. He knew he wanted Margo and that she was more than worth the work and wait. I just love that. And we can't forget about our boy Cannon. I cannot WAIT for his story. We saw a decent amount of him in Rowdy's book but we definitely see a more in depth look into him and his story. I am definitely anticipating this one. He's one sexay male!!

And the story line, there was never a dull moment that's for sure. There were parts that had me reading as fast as I could to see what was next and others that had me doing the same and sweating bullets over if they were going to make it out of a certain situation. Lori is always able to create a world where I become completely engrossed. I've never read a book of hers I didn't like!

I will admit I have been waiting for Dash’s story and hints from previous books assured me it would be with Margo. I admire this tough as nails woman. She has risen in the ranks, cleaned house and the men respect her. They don’t, however, see her as a woman. But Dash sees the soft feminine woman beneath the shield. Foster peeled back Margo’s kick-ass, take no prisoners, by the book facade and revealed the complex woman. Dash is a construction and design company owner who still likes to put on a tool belt and work alongside his men. The man is smexy personified. While he is definitely a ladies’ man, he is also level-headed, caring, honest. He totally gets Margo and loved watching their relationship unfold. While, for some, it may feel like insta-love the slow build and attraction throughout the series made them feel genuine to me. We see other beloved characters and their reaction to Margo and Dash was hilarious. The conversations, faces and banter had me giggling. We learn more about Cannon, an MMA fighter with a heart of pure gold, and I cannot wait for his story.

From police corruption to the seedy world of porn Dash of Peril offered an intense plot filled with dark suspects that kept me on the edge and our characters in constant danger. Foster does an excellent job pacing the plot, weaving in suspects and action and while still giving us a heated romance. She added elements of dominance and submission to Margo and Dash’s romance and it felt natural and plausible. This notched up the heat for me and wasn’t overdone. The overall plot arc for the Love Undercover series came together in this final book. Foster tied up loose threads and gave us a clear picture of our villains. Margo’s family was outlandish, disturbingly dysfunctional and it was easy to see how Margo’s persona came to be. From the romance to the action Foster had me engaged. This book seems to close out Lori Foster's Love Undercover series, with a romance between Lieutenant Margo Peterson and Dash Riske. Both characters have figured rather prominently in the previous books in the series, where readers saw sparks of interest fly between them. The series has been a bit hit and miss for me, but this is the best of the four. And the beauty of this book is that you don't have to have read the previous three to follow this one nicely.

As the story starts, Margo is trying to get the lead on a crime ring when she is attacked. Because of his interest in her, Dash is nearby and comes to her rescue. But Margo is a strong woman, and she doesn't need rescuing for long. I really appreciated that the narrator doesn't just claim Margo is a strong person, but we see it in her actions. And Dash is no slouch, himself. I loved that he was a strong and sexy character, without having to be the hero.

Because the characters are in law enforcement, the novel does have some rather violent situations, though they happen around our main characters, not to them. I thought Foster handled these rather well, but some readers may be uncomfortable with the fact that there is rape and violence (crimes which Margo and her cadre of officers are fighting against).

The secondary characters from previous novels figure prominently without taking over the story line. Likewise, there is clearly a setup for a future romance featuring one (and possible two) of the characters in this story. It looks like it'll be a departure from the law enforcement series, though, and I will definitely be picking it up when it becomes available.

Good Lord this was a scorcher. There is a ton of sex in this book. There is also a good love story to go with all the nookie. I really enjoyed this one. I love a strong heroin although going into this I was not sure I would like Margo and if I would find the mutual attraction between her and Dash believable. She seemed too hard in the other books in this series. I was wrong. I loved Margo. She has a tough exterior but Dash brought out her softer side and I found myself totally engaged in their story. I loved Dash too. He was very alpha with her in the bedroom but knew when to give her the space she needed to get her job done. He had the utmost admiration and respect for her. He was a great H.

Margo is a tough as nails Lieutenant who takes crap from no one, puts herself in danger when she uses herself as bait to nail some scumbags who are kidnapping women and forcing them into porn. Dash gets involved with helping her catch the bad guys but wants more from this woman who pushes all his buttons. He sees through that tough exterior of hers and thinks she's sexy as hell. The feeling is mutual. She has the hots for him as well and tries to fight it. When she is targeted and injured, he goes all alpha to protect her and they begin a sexual relationship that becomes so much more.

One of the secondary characters, Cannon, an MMA fighter and bartender at Rowdy's gets involved with helping Margo with her case and you get a little glimpse of the next couple, Cannon and Yvette, whose story is a spin-off of this series. I can't wait to get my hands on that one. I adore Cannon.

I recommend this to contemporary romance lovers.

This is an immensely charged novel on so many levels. Foster mixes sexy and hot with an incredible plotline to create a story you won’t forget. It’s intimate and charming while remaining fast paced and suspenseful. I thoroughly enjoyed the contrasts within the stories and the characters as well. I didn’t just read this novel I devoured it!

Roles are reversed from the stereotypical creating a stand out pair of main characters while maintaining a natural and approachable balance. Each of them fights against their nature to be who they are expected to be. It was excruciatingly touching to watch them become their selves with each other. It was also very touching. Foster also proves that her male lead doesn`t need to be in law enforcement or the military to be an Alpha with a capital A. Dash is a little bit of everything. And Margo is brilliant in her own right as well. There are so many facets to these two characters that you can`t help but love them. their complexity is what makes each of them real. I also loved seeing the characters we’ve met in the previous novels in the series. Foster definitely proves the adage that `loyalty makes you family` with this one.

Being the author that we’ve come to know and love we expect certain things from Foster’s work. She definitely doesn’t disappoint with Dash of Peril. To be honest, she exceeded my expectations. This novel was brilliant on multiple levels. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to anyone at all, regardless of their preferred genre and I definitely can’t wait for her next release.

"Margo couldn't deny that it felt good to be near a man, this man, soaking up his heat, hearing the husky timbre of his voice, feeling the restrained power innate in all good men." "God he tasted good, like a man should."

"Dash cupped her chin, marveling again that a woman so strong could be so sweet and soft."

"What happened to her lethal edge? But she already knew. Sexy, controlling Dashiel Riske had happened. Would she ever again be the same?"

"In so many ways, he touched her heart, made her feel special and...loved."

Lori Foster has intrigued me yet again. Lieutenant Margret Peterson or Margo, trapped me with her awesomeness. With her beautiful looks, ever present confidence and badass persona she is a woman most men would shy away from or be intimidated by. Hard core to the bone, just the kind of character to get enthralled with. She has a hidden side to her, one that every woman desires in some way...the need for someone to dominate her. Then there is Dashiel Riske. He is the owner of a construction company, rich, worldly, yet a humble manly man. I was instantly drawn to his sex appeal and loyalty. Their story is a stormy one, that kept me wanting more and anxious until the end. Their hot steamy romance made me feel good, as well as the action that kept me on the edge. In the end this book is a great read! ght

I can't say that Lori Foster books of late have been among my best reads but I've realized that once I am partially in a series, if I have the chance to finish it, I'll take it and such as it is with Foster's last "Love Undercover" book called "Dash of Peril."

Of the 4 "Love Undercover" books, I missed reading the first one called "Run the Risk" which, from what I can gather via reader reviews, seems to be the 'best' of the series and although I didn't care for books 2 or 3, I did like Margo and Dash's story, "Dash of Peril" enough that I may check out that first book in the series.

Margo Petersen is a police Lieutenant working on a case of women being abducted and forced into the sex trade (in this case, porn). It is a cliche for the heroine to set herself up as bait so there isn't much surprise that Margo does just that in this book. So the set up so far isn't anything new but I liked Margo in that she's pretty no-nonsense overall.

Like the previous books that I read in this series, I'm iffy on Dash in that it gets a little annoying that Foster has this penchant for making her 'heros' a little too alpha (Book 3 was probably the worst though). But Dash does have enough redeeming qualities that I could work with him as a hero and mainly, I liked Margo.

This book seemed longer than the previous books that I read but it was still a pretty fast read.

I truly love Lori Foster's books. She writes with a flair whether it be erotica or just a great contemporary steamy romance like "Dash of Peril." Margo is no softie heroine. She is a tough-as-boot-leather cop who has never been used to showing her vulnerability to anyone. Coming from a family of cops, she was reared with a very 'cowboy up' attitude. Therefore when she gets wounded it is up to Dash Riske to make sure she takes care of her injuries in spite of herself. Ms. Foster is one of those terrific writers who is a master at the sexual tension, and can she ever write a good hero! Balancing the alpha with the ability to bring the character a tenderness is very difficult, but she pulls it off. There is also a rip roaring page turner of a action mystery going on too. You will love this book.

I’m gonna start by saying YAY I got Lori back!!! I was not a fan of Getting Rowdy. I don’t know if it was just me being unable to connect with the characters or what but I just did not like that book like I had hoped, which was a huge disappointment because I have been a Lori Foster fan for years. Still I had to continue with this series because I needed Dash’s book no matter what! Thank goodness I stuck with it! I LOVED this book! Dash and Margo made for one heck of a steamy suspenseful story. These two may not have started off the way one would hope but the sure did end up being one of Lori’s best couples. Typically I read Lori’s books because the woman can write a darn good story and the steamy parts are always good but never really blow my mind (with the exception of one or two others that did). This book was way different for me though. Margo and Dash had an enormous amount of chemistry and they completely blew my mind with it! You can literally feel the sexual tension between the two and it’s oh so good! If you have not picked up a book by Lori Foster yet, what are you waiting for? There are so many great ones to choose from. And if you have well then add this one to your list too because it’s one that is not to be missed!

Each book in the Love Undercover series can be a standalone book but I have found that they are much better when you know the background of the characters in the story.

Dash has been a favorite of mine from the first book, Run the Risk. He is calm, collected, and oh so Alpha. Knowing that the attraction to Margo was something that had been stewing for a while and that he had not been able to get over it made the sparks that were flying that much hotter and brighter. Having Margo not want to give into those sparks and making Dash work for it made their relationship so real. I do have to share that if my husband hung over my like Dash hung over Margo, all the time, I would probably go nuts. Sometimes a woman needs some space to deal with life, not always needing a man to step in and take control.

Lori Foster is an author that I never pass up. Her Alpha Males are always hot and sexy. Her females are tough and not pushovers who just drop at the feet of the males. It is refreshing to have a female stand up to her male, not just fall into line. The next book in this series, Cannon’s story, cannot be released soon enough.

Dash of Peril is a book that I just love, just might be my favorite in this series so far. I highly recommend this book and the entire series by Lori Foster.

Love Undercover Series #4

I appreciate the fact that Lori Foster's novels are fun reads even if you haven't read the other books in the series, but the characters do carryover across the novels in Love Undercover and readers will be rewarded for having read the previous book: Getting Rowdy (Love Undercover (Foster) series Book 3) .

The plot involves unraveling ring involved in human trafficking in pornographic films that is pretty intense for serial fiction. But that is a good thing. Marg is working undercover while Dash provides the back up as they try to bust the case wide open. Things don't stay strictly professional in this working relationship!

The banter is quick and well scripted even if it is a bit overwrought at times. Overall an enjoyable and light read.

When I read about Margo from the earlier books in this series, never did it cross my mind that there will be this side of her that I will be seeing; a softer and submissive side. I guess she is a woman after all and it takes only the right man to bring those sides out of her.

I was indignant as I read about her dysfunctional family. It was just disappointing that her parents treated her this way and the elder brother didn't protect her from any of those treatments either. It was really touching to see Dash standing in for Margo the way he did. It was no wonder that Margo would fall even deeper for him.

Dash is just such a sensitive man and he knows just when to give and take. I love how he becomes all alpha and beta with Margo; taking and giving control when situation calls for it, taking the lead and giving space. Margo got herself caught in a few situations and despite all that had happened, he trusted her to know what to do, take the lead and he was cool and collected. He is definitely a good match for Margo. I definitely loved the rapport between Dash, Logan, Reese and Cannon.

This book is engaging and pretty fast paced with quite a bit of actions, suspense and hot romance between Dash & Margo. And I'm glad that there will be a story for Cannon.

Lori Foster never fails to write stories that capture the reader's heart and keep you coming back for more and DASH OF PERIL is certainly no exception. With a tough as nail's police lieutenant as the heroine and one stubborn laid back male, for a hero there's no shortage of captivating moments as these two come together amongst a sleazy abduction ring that targets unsuspecting women. What I particularly liked about DASH OF PERIL is how, unlike Margo's co-workers, Dash sees her as a desirable woman, which is something she's always taken great pains to hide. Margo is a highly memorable character whom my heart broke for her as the reality of her family's treatment of her became clear - but I love that Dash wasn't afraid to go head to head with her father in her defense - if I didn't love the man before the whole confrontation scene then I gotta say that sealed the deal of making him one of my all time favorite Lori Foster characters (and that's not an easy spot to win since the Buckhorn Brothers have held that title for a very long time!)

I loved DASH OF PERIL so much that went and ordered the first three books in the LOVE UNDERCOVER series:
RUN THE RISK
BARE IT ALL
GETTING ROWDY
... just waiting anxiously for them to hit my mailbox now :)

I am a big fan of Lori Foster's romances. I have loved the love undercover series! This newest enstallment Dash of Peril was excellent. It has suspense, romance, friendship, family, and sexy alpha males galore! I wasn't sure if I would like the heroine Margaret Peterson because she was so harsh in the former novels, but Lori Foster wrote Margaret with more softness and vulnerability in this book. I liked Margaret. She was a strong heroine but could be a softer woman with her hero Dash. I loved Dash! He was a sexy, alpha male but showed the woman he loved respect. He was man enough not to be threatened by a strong independent woman. I loved the suspense storyline and liked hearing the point of views of the bad guys. However I must admit I totally fell in love with Cannon and Yvette! I can't wait for Cannon's novel to come out! He was so HOT and such a wonderfully giving man! He deserves his happy ending and I want to learn more about him and Yvette! I also liked seeing the characters from the earlier books in the series make an appearance. I may have to go back and reread them! Go get Dash of Peril if you love hot romances with suspense! I stayed up all night to finish this book. Can't wait for the next book by Lori Foster!

Author Lori Foster continues her fabulous "Love Undercover" series with Book 4, "Dash of Peril". Lieutenant Margaret "Margo" Peterson was all business when it came the business she knew best--police work. Determined to put an end to a notorious group who kidnapped, abused, and sometimes killed defenseless women, Margo set herself up as a decoy time and time again. Hoping to catch the perpetrators and end their rein of terror, she allowed herself to be a target. Coming to her defense and joining her in her ruse was Dashiel Riske, brother of one her best officers, Logan Riske. Not a policeman himself, Dash owned a construction company. His interest in Margo had always been personal--very personal. Joining her in her undercover operation allowed him to stay close and keep an eye on the beautiful lieutenant. When Margo got too close to the thugs for their comfort, they tried to take her out by crashing into her car. Dash had followed his protective instincts and trailed behind Margo, and then had rushed to her aid, risking his life along the way. Taking it upon himself to help with her at-home recuperation, Dash finds himself becoming intimately involved with Margo, and she returns his interest with fervor. She gets better with his TLC, but will he recover from the scorching heat radiated from "The Ice Maiden"? Dash will do his best to protect Margo from continued threats to her safety, but can he protect his heart from being lost? Has Margo finally found a man with whom she can totally be herself? Author Lori Foster's "Love Undercover" series is recommended romantic suspense fun for those who like heartfelt reads that pack plenty of heat.

Lori Foster is one author whose books immediately go to the top of my “to read” list, my wish list and my preorder list. She has never disappointed me, and with Dash of Peril, she continues to justify my faith in her.

However, if I’m honest, I have to admit I had a few reservations concerning the heroine of this book. From the time she first introduced Lieutenant Margaret Peterson in Run the Risk, I could not like this character. I pictured her as a hard as nails, by the book, cold career officer. I should have known better.
Everyone has a back story. When you read the book, you will find out what motivates Margaret to be the way she is.

When Lori teams up the super tough, no nonsense Margaret with the super sexy, not afraid to tell precisely what he wants (in bed and other places too) Dashiel Riske, Lori has matched the perfect couple. Dash brings balance into Margaret’s life, teaching her that she can “give in” without losing who she is.

Lori also has a couple of her characters from other books show up to visit. I see this as a teaser for things to come…..but that’s another story. I am impatiently waiting.

I want you to know up front that I am a huge fan of Lori Foster’s writing and that I have enjoyed all of the previous installments. With the disclaimer out of the way, I was disenchanted by this latest release. I finished this book a few days ago and while the writing, storyline, and dialogue were all spectacular – the characters were uninspiring. Usually, it is either the hero or heroine but in this situation both felt hollow. In previous books I was impressed with Lieutenant Margaret Peterson’s ball busting personally but it made her an awkward heroine. The author did soften some of her rougher edges – yet she still seemed to overwhelm the relationship. As for Dash…I have been looking forward to read his story but I felt his character was in the background for most of the story. He has always came across as an Alpha male – not so much in this story.

Margo is a tough, strong independent woman, she's also the new lieutenant of the police squad that was under fire for corruption. The case she's working is dangerous, it involves the kidnapping, drugging and abuse of women. She is attracted to Dash but doesn't want a relationship with him.

Dash owns his own construction company and is totally enamored with Margo. He tries to break through her walls and finally has the chance when she us involved in a wreck and is hurt badly. He pushes his way into helping take care of her. He has plan to have her open and accept a relationship with him.

When the threat to her life increases and more dangerous, she must learn to depend on Dash. She has to learn how to be a woman and the tough cop that takes no crap from anyone including her own family.

I enjoyed this book and I loved the strong character of Margo and the living nature of Dash. I look forward to reading more from this author.

Dash of Peril, the fourth and final installment in Lori Foster’s fabulous Love Undercover series, delivers fantastic characters and a fast paced storyline with a thrilling suspense element that kept me hooked until the very end!

Dash and Margo have been working together undercover to try and learn more information about who is behind the kidnapping, sexual assault and murder of young women in their city. They both want to make those responsible pay for their crimes. However, Dash also wants Margo. After an attempt on her life leaves Margo hurt and in need of help, Dash steps in.

Margo has always been fiercely independant, never admitting a need for, or wanting, help from anyone. Dash throws her life off balance, he makes her need and want things that she never has before. After the initial shock wears off, she realizes that may not be a bad thing. I loved her strength and fierceness, but I also loved her quiet, sweet and vulnerable side. It was beautiful to watch her discover that having those feelings, and someone to love and support her, didn’t make her weak, but instead made her stronger.

Dash exudes a quiet strength and dominance that, even though it’s not in your face, makes its intense presence known in many ways. He knows that Margo can be extremely intimidating (for some), but he refuses to let that deter him. He can see that there is so much more beneath that brass exterior she tries to show everyone else. I loved that Dash wasn’t afraid to take on, support, love and accept such a strong women. Instead of being a turn-off, her commanding presence, authority, leadership and skill were huge turn-on’s for him. He was able to keep the delicate balance between all of her worlds, understanding why, when, where and what she needed at every single turn. It was beautiful to see how they both blossomed with the love they shared.

Although I thoroughly enjoyed the story, reconnecting with the secondary characters and watching their lives continue to unfold, I did have some issues that disconnected me from the story somewhat. I loved both Dash and Margo’s characters separately, but together I had trouble connecting with them. Their chemistry didn’t feel electric and jump off the page like the couples in the previous books. Margo was so closed off to emotion and feelings that it was difficult for even me, the reader, to connect with her. Dash seemed almost too easygoing, and I wanted to see some stronger emotions from him at certain points. However, this did change about mid-way through and helped propel me through the rest of the story.

With every book I read from the amazing Ms. Foster, I fall a little more in love with her writing style and the vibrant, honest and authentic worlds that she creates. Dash of Peril was no different and offered up the perfect ending to another amazing series!

I just love, love, love, Lori Foster. Dash of Peril is the story of Dash and Lieutenant Margo (his brother's boss). Margo is still intent on shutting down some nasty players who are targeting women. She wants to bring them down but needs some help on her undercover work. Margo enlists the help of Dash, a very alpha male. They is so much more brewing between these two people that explodes into passion. Lori is an excellent author the never fails to deliver when it comes to her books. The storyline is captivating, easy to follow along, and has you rooting for the good guys. This is a must read book, seriously you have to read this. I give it 5 stars.

Well, the book I've been looking forward to has now been read and I'm trying to figure out how I feel about it. I was excited when I started reading it and it starts out with Dash and Margot talking then some action (get your mind out of the gutter, it's not that kind of action....yet). So, yeah right at the start we get some action then it's like sex, sex do cop stuff, sex, sex, do cop stuff, sex sex. You get it? There was very little happening other then long stretches of sex. Now, don't get me wrong. When cop stuff happened a lot was packed into it, but even then all Margot could think about was sex. Not that I blame her cause it's Dash, but I would've liked more cop stuff. Cannon played a huge part in this book which is good cause I can't wait to read his book and get back into the MMA world. I'd still recommend this book (I did enjoy it) and recommend the others in this series so you can see how Dash and Margo started their little dance.

I'm always sorry to see a series close, but Dash of Peril finishes the Love Undercover series well. It could stand alone but as I had read the previous books I was interested in the interactions with prior book characters. Lori Foster does an excellent job of balancing the romance/suspense/sex and Dash runs true to form. Her characters are so fully dimensional as to seem larger than life, but emotionally engaging nonetheless. The pacing was fast, the immersion factor superb, and the journey to happily ever after a fun one. Witty dialogue and passionate love scenes round out this excellent book and series,.
*I was lucky enough to request and receive my copy from NetGalley.com in exchange for an honest review.

This was my third Lori Foster book, and this was pretty well in line with the others. The series follows police officers, so you can expect some danger and intrigue, but it's getting kind of unrealistic in the formulaic way the same things seem to happen just to the different couples. Margo also seemed a bit unrealistic to me, both in the way she oggles Rowdy in front of Dash because she just can't help herself, and the way in which she is in command with everyone but Dash, with whom she instantly bestows her control. After she and Dash are together, her responses around Logan and Reese also seemed off. I found her character unrealistic and rather wishy-washy most of the time.
It was a quick read and definitely not without merit, but if I had read this one first, I probably wouldn't be looking for more books by Foster.

This is the fourth book in the "Love Undercover" series and the story of Dash Riske and Margaret.

This book completely surprised me! Just when I thought it was going to be just okay, Dash took me by storm and pulled me right in. With the way the story began and the history of Margaret being such a strong willed woman I didn't expect what came next. But sweet Dash was no slouch, he totally handled that and then some. Dash is just to die for and as much as I didn't think I could say this after reading about Rowdy I'll say that Dash is just as good as Rowdy if not better.

I usually really enjoy Lori Foster stories. She is so good at picking imperfect people and making them interesting, engaging, and above all, likeable. Once I start a book it takes me maybe an afternoon to finish it if I can spare the time. This book took me a whole 5 days to complete... I just couldn't make myself care much about Margo, the main character. She was much more interesting as a side story in the previous book. I liked Dash okay, the hero, but as a couple their relationship left me cold. (It was most interesting when her evil father was around.) Don't get me wrong, the book is okay.... but not a barn burning, page turning, sensation. I guess that is what happens when you come to expect excellent from an author, sometimes you get a skip-able story and it's hard not to feel cheated.

This book is the latest in Foster's Love Undercover series. This story follows Lieutenant Margo Peterson and Dash Riske as they succumb to their feelings for each while trying to keep the lieutenant alive and out of trouble. I think if I hadn't read the previous books in the series, the story would not have been as enjoyable. In the previous books, Margo and Dash meet and while sometimes working together, the sexual tension slowly develops. This book jumps in after all of that and after Margo and Dash have been partnering on a case. There is no buildup in this book. They immediately survive a life threatening situation, and that's what it takes to draw them together. However, as with all of Foster's men, Dash it HOT, and you root for them to get together and stay together.

Blah for a Lori Foster book. Sometimes it's okay to write a stand alone book or start a new series instead of continuing a storyline in a mediocre fashion, which is what I wish Lori Foster had done instead of writing this. With this book, she's laying the groundwork to tie her Ohio corruption into the SBC series. Both series have have been slipping into mediocrity. Since the Fifty Shades series it seems to be a requirement to have a "submissive" character, even if it's just in the bedroom. While Margo could never be considered a submissive, the fact that the male lead had to use that word at all drove me nuts. I have no problem with role playing or toys or kinky sex, but these sex scenes missed the mark for me. Truthfully, I enjoyed Noah and Grace's "sex slave in the bedroom" from Ms. Foster's Too Much Temptation much more than anything in this book. As for the plot, it was just completely lacking from page one. I hate being disappointed by an author whose work I usually enjoy, but this was definitely a let down. If you can borrow in from a library or a friend do.

After the last book when it was clear that Margo and Dash were starting to hit it off, this definitely feels like the pay off. Margo isn't the most endearing character in this series. She's tough and pushes herself into a more masculine role to be taken seriously. Part of this comes from her position in a male dominated job, but others stem from insecurity with her family issues. Dash knows her secrets and is capable of holding her up when she is a bit weaker than she'd like to admit. There is a lot more sex in this book than in previous ones, which took away from some of the overall story. The passion overloads the love in a lot of cases within this book. I wanted to have some of that romance without only physical things.

The storyline on this one was really slow! I found myself losing interest at many points in the story. I do understand that the "romance" between the two main characters is one of the main features of "romance" books, but, as with a lot of Lori Foster stories, it was more the main characters thinking and talking about how much they want to have sex with each other than any real romance. I guess I like my romances with more tension and build up, and this book essentially had none. Plus, the actual plot wasn't interesting enough to keep me...well...interested. It wasn't a horrible book, but not one of my favorites either.

I enjoyed this Lori Foster book told mostly from the female cop's point of view. Yes, she populates the book with enormously attractive, "buff" men for her to interact with as in her MMA books, but this plot line is different. The cop is a good one who's had to fight her way up to her position within the police force against corruption inside and also against the male cops' prejudices against women. A good read.

I loved this book and this series so much that I didn't want it to end but what a way to go out. This book had so many great aspects to it it just keep you turning the pages for more. Dash and Margo were so well suited both being such alpha personalities that instead of clashing they for the most part worked as one and understanding each other's needs.
It was fabulous how Ms. Foster brought in the characters of her next series and wove them in to this book and when she brought in a couple characters well let's just say I had a total fan girl moment that it made my day. Dean Conor my all time favorite character of her books. Now I can't wait for the next series.

This is the 4th Book in Lori Foster's Love Undercover series and to appreciate it you need to read them all in order. In truth, I wasn't sure how to rate this one, it's probably more like a solid 3.5 stars. I love the series and all of the characters but the chemistry between Dash and Margo in this book just seemed to fall flat for me. The storyline itself was great - a good mix of suspense and drama - and it was written well. The H/h just seemed a bit forced this time around.

Cannon however, stole my heart. We met him in previous books, and he had a great role in this one. Lori's new SBC fighter series will kick off with his book. I can't wait.

The following is an excerpt for the LORI FOSTER website under the heading Connected:
RUN THE RISK (September, 2012)
Detective Logan Riske & Pepper Yates’ story
Logan Riske is a detective going undercover to find a witness to murder.

BARE IT ALL (April, 2013)
Reese Bareden is Logan Riske’s friend and also a detective, who hooks up with a familiar female character (Alice) from the previous series to fight against injustice.
Alice appeared as a secondary character in “Trace of Fever” and Trace visits Alice in “Bare it All”.

GETTING ROWDY (September, 2013)
Rowdy Yates is brother to Logan’s heroine (Pepper). He’s still walking a fine line between breaking the law, and enforcing it, until he meets the right woman (Avery).

DASH OF PERIL (March, 2014)
Lieutenant Margaret “Margo” Peterson & Dashiel “Dash” Riske's story
Dash Riske is a brother to Detective Logan Riske, and friend to Detective Reese Bareden
Lt. Margaret Peterson is superior to Logan and Reese.

With “Dash of Peril” we get to see the lighter-softer side of Lt. Peterson, who is normally the tough as nails, ball busting, independent woman trying to keep her hierarchy position in a man's world. She constantly battles to keep her dominant status at her precinct, her father's displeasure with her as a human being and disappointment as a daughter, and her kinky sexual desires she feels she can only indulge with strangers. Enter Dash who with one look decides Margo is all woman and should be his woman. Eloquently stated by Dash {“It doesn't matter if you're being the bad ass lieutenant, the independent daughter, or the submissive woman, I love you so much you're going to drown in it.”} He becomes the Dom to her Submissive bringing to life her inner fantasies so she no longer has to indulge in one night stands with strangers. When her job needs her attention he knows when to step back and let her have full reign, recognizing her ability to do what needs to be done. Coming to terms with having an actual relationship beyond one night, letting someone in, allowing them to see her at her weakest, Margo realizes there is more to Dash than meets the eye. And Oh! What Eye Candy he is. His brother is the cop but Dash is no stranger to holding his own. Margo is hot on the trail of sick deviants targeting woman for rape/torture/porn videos. A botched hit on her life leaves her injured and off duty till cleared by her doctor. Dash takes her under his care. With a time limit till she gets back on the job he sets out to lay claim to Margo's heart. “Dash of Peril” gives the reader an Alpha Male who is confident with who he is and willing to do whatever it takes to claim the woman he loves. Lori Foster has definitely hit the nail on the head with this installment in her Love Undercover series.......One can only hope that Cannon's story “No Limits” will be half as good.

Lieutenant Margaret Peterson is a tough, take-no-prisoners, and intimidating cop to everyone except Dashiel Riske. Dash sees the the part of Margo that no one else - maybe even Margo - can see. This being the fourth book in the Love Undercover series, we have seen Margo and Dash before. She and Dash both appeared in Run the Risk, Bare It All and Getting Rowdy. But now, their romance moves to the front and center.

Human trafficking particularly kidnapping young women and drugging them before they are forced to participate in porn videos has been the focus of the series. Corruption in the police department has also been a large part of the series. In this book, Margaret has managed to clean out the criminals from her department which hasn't endeared her to the shady cops.

Margaret also has family issues. She has never been good enough for her father - a former Chief of Police. She has tried to live up to his expectations by being tougher than all the boys and burying any hint of her femininity. However, she prefers a submissive role in sexual situations which means she has to hide her sexual needs from her work world.

Dash Riske is more than willing to meet Margo's sexual needs. He isn't the kind to be intimidated by a take charge woman either. Dash is a rich, confident man who has no trouble with his self-image. He is also smart and kind. And, of course, he has the hot bod and confidence which makes him a babe magnet. Luckily, the babe he wants is Margo.

I loved the relationship between Dash and Margo and the way he used extensive foreplay to work his way into her life and heart. The love scenes were hot! I also liked watching her shifting relationship with her officers Logan Riske, Dash's brother, and his partner Reese Bareden. I liked that she became more comfortable with all the aspects of her personality as she fell in love with Dash.

I recommend the whole series and can't wait for the next book. I need Cannon's story!

Margo is a strong, independent woman. She is a police lieutenant. While trying to figure out who is making porno movies of women being raped, her car is t-boned. Dash is one of her detectives brother and stays with her while recuperating from the accident. But someone still wants her dead and they must figure it out before it's to late.

A sexy, rich, owner of a construction company, an Alpha female, seriously bad guys, a corrupt police department and a whole lotta sexual tension.

This is my favorite book of the series. Dash & Margo made a good couple. Because of how she was raised as a child, Margo needed to be tough at work, and submissive at home. She never had the chance to be a woman at home. Dash gave her what she needed but I feel as though it was a little lacking in the submissive department for her. Margo went with it since she had feelings for Dash and he was there. I'm glad things worked out at the end.

Lori Foster is to steamy hot romance novels as Piers Anthony is to SF novels, excellent writer, versatile, skillfully weaves character development through several novels, allowing the characters to grow with depth. I deeply enjoy Lori Foster books, especially Bare It All. Dash of Peril continues the story of Margo and her steamy sidekick Dash. No spoiler alerts here, if you enjoy steamy romance novels then by all means check out Dash.

I have enjoyed reading Lori Foster's books and couldn't wait til she told Dash's story, however it just fell flat for me. She tried using the dominant/submissive sexuality, but nowadays it more hard core than this. I felt their chemistry was off... I wish I could say why, it just was. When author keeps using Rowdy as every girls fantasy, then tries to promote a new guy; the feeling was eh. Still a nice read, but didn't live up to my expectations.

I have really enjoyed this series but this book wasn't as captivating as the others. This story has Margo who is a police lieutenant and is not well liked in the department because she got rid of a lot of crooked cops when she took over, leaving some cops still wary of her. Margo is a very tough, take charge kind of woman who never shows weakness.

It starts with Margo trying to catch some people who are kidnapping women and forcing them to film a porno. She is undercover at a bar acting as bait when she runs into Dash, the brother of one of her detectives. He's upset with her undercover job, so he's been looking for her to assure himself that she's safe. As they leave the bar it starts to snow, so she drives home slowly. On the way she is T-boned by the criminals who are kidnapping the women and want Margo dead before she finds them. Dash saw the accident because he was following her to make sure she made it OK so he ran over to help her.

He finds Margo is injured but refuses medical attention, so takes her home. He doesn't want to leave her alone because of her injuries and because the crash was not an accident so someone could come back to finish the job. Dash decides to stay with Margo. Since he has had a crush on Margo for a long time, staying with her is not a hardship. When they start a relationship he has to learn to let Margo be a police lieutenant when she is working but a woman when they are alone.

There were a lot of sex scenes in this book that didn't seem to help the plot along. Their relationship seemed to consist almost solely on sex. The sex scenes were definitely erotic and steamy but there was so much sex in the book that it shadowed the story line of tracking down the criminals who were abducting girls.

As far as the characters go, I liked Dash's personality being strong but laid back. I didn't care for Margo at all and never felt a connection between these two.

I have read all the books in this series and have to say this was my least favorite. I just couldn't get a feel for these characters. To me, Margo, Detective Margaret Peterson, was different than portrayed in the other books. Her "softening" at Dash' s hands seemed out of character. Because of her unusual sexual preferences, which she felt was a darkness in her, all of a sudden she allows him to totally dominate her in that respect. I got the feeling the author just wanted to add some kink to her books, that it really had no relevance as far as the story was concerned. I understood that due to her relationship with her father she tried not to show any signs of weakness. This was also due to the fact she was a female in a male dominated profession and in a role of leadership as well. However, this just didn't work for me in regards to her relationship to Dash. While I was disappointed in the main storyline, I did enjoy Cannon' s story and look forward to reading his book.

This book was extremely difficult for me to get into. I just never felt any connection whatsoever with Margo or Dash. Which is sad, because I liked Dash in the previous installments to the series. He was laid-back and fun-loving, but in this one, not so much. Dash seem to become a totally different character than before.

The story line failed to hold my interest. I'm not sure if I just wasn't in the mood, or if just gotten tired of it from the previous installments.

Margo's relationship with her family was the most interesting aspect of the story. Her family was just plain cold toward on another. I'm not sure if the coldness of Margo's family rubbed off on her and that's the reason I never felt a love connection between her and Dash or what. I just couldn't get behind them as a couple. It felt like they were the odd men out, so they just got thrown together.

Cannon was major character in this one as well, so I'm guessing his story will be next. The bits of what I say of him in this one suggests that it should be a good read.

NewsFlash Margo is in fact a woman!
Seriously that's all I kept thinking as I read this book, and fought off the urge to constantly eye roll. Let me start from the beginning. I have to say that this book is my least favorite Lori Foster book and I've read dang near all of them. After reading Getting Rowdy ( thank you may I have another!?!) I was super excited to read Dash's book, sadly I wasn't really impressed with this installment, honestly I was more annoyed than anything. The constant agog looks that any male cop gave her because she acted or looked more like a woman, it got old. It was a constant oh my gosh the Lieutenant did something womanly, lets all gasp and stare.

Aside from that, the fact that Dash was the chick in this book is another reason why I wasn't too fond of this one. Don't get me wrong i like a strong heroine more than anything but the vibe I got from this one I didn't like. It wasn't that she was strong, she was Alpha all the time even when we were being led to believe that Dash was in charge he really wasn't. It was like Dash was constantly rolling over to her, very much like a timid little girl, which I didn't really picture him as. He kept that up all the way to the very end.

Two things saved this book for me.
1. Cannon, yes hello I can't wait to ready your book. Much like it was stated in this one he seems a lot like Rowdy, and since Rowdy is my favorite out of this series I can't wait to see more of Cannon.

2. I hate to admit this because I hate when people rate up just or this alone, but this is Lori Foster and she does know how to write a sex scene. They really did help with my motivation for continuing with this book along with as I said before Cannon.

Hopefully Cannon's book will be amazing!

Once again Lori does not disappoint! Dash of Peril was great. Margo was a police lieutenant determined to go it alone and try to make up to her father for not being born a boy. She had this crusty exterior that she showed to those in her command. When Margo's life was threatened, Dash was there and stubborn enough to stay with her. They protected each other. The sexual tention between them was undeniable! You will meet some old friends, and add to the mix, the the scrumptious Rowdy and Cannon, and MS. Foster has another hit on her hands.

I'd give this 2 stars except that what I felt most about this book was disappointment. It wasn't that it was bad it just in no way lived up to my expectations. In fact this entire series with the exception of Bare It All was a huge disappointment. Flat is the best way I can describe it.
I loved the little glimpses of Dash and Margo in the other books. For their own story however they fell spectacularly flat. Neither seemed to have personnality at all and I'm sorry but nobody talks the way these people do. Margo is repeatly refered to as "a female". As if this should explain her personallity or her physical attributes. I'm sorry but she's a Women! not "A FEMALE".
She's being targeted by seriosly twisted bad guys and there was no suspense to this at all. Yvette and Cannon's run-ins with the bad guys, heck their entire storyline were more developed and suspenseful.
Her screwed up brother and father had more personality when it came to how they treated Margo than Dash did. They had no spark at all. Honestly I could have cared less if they got a HEA at all. Outside of when they are being threathened Dash and Margo had very little personality or even much likability.
First quarter of the book. Good. Last quarter of the book. Good. Middle half. Snooze.
I'm glad this series is over. If the Men Who Walk the Edge of Honor series hadn't been so good then this might one might not have felt so flat. Looking forward to Cannon. I hope he lives up to the potential I see in him.

Lori Foster has this amazing ability to write wonderful alpha males who just know how to be a man – that is exactly what Dash is. While Margo places herself in danger to catch the men who are abducting women, Dash places himself right along with her so that he can take care of her. This might seem like Dash is overbearing with his protectiveness but really he is not. He knows when to back off and let Margo be the lieutenant and he also knows when to step up and take control.

Their relationship with a sweet/hot one that made me feel all warm and nice inside at times (like when Dash takes care of Margo and her cat) and then comes the sexy time. The one thing that I will say is that for some reason, the toughness of Margo kind of threw me off of her character. I love it when a female character is strong but Margo seemed too strong. There was a few times that I would have loved just to see her give in and be scared or something. I guess I would say that I wanted her more human like than robot like.

I did love the side story of Cannon and Yvette. I hope this will continue to grow and that they will get a book because Cannon was just an interesting character.

After the author's Getting Rowdy, I was prepared for yet another sexy book with an A hole male character. Hey, I was surprised, pleasantly so. Yeah, it is dripping with sex. I generally give thumbs down for a book this sexy, but somehow Lori Foster's scenes aren't as annoying to me. I did appreciate the fact that this had a fair amount of action and suspense. So heck, I'm giving it four stars. Enjoy.

I have been so disappointed by the Indie reads I have read recently that it spurred me to go back and concentrate on my tradionally pubbed favorite authors, who write reliably well, with solid characters, great plots, amazing writing. This did not dissapoint!! Lori never does. Loved Dash and how patient, and commanding, he was as cmpletely dominated our Lieutentant heroine (in the bedroom) - because in all other aspects, they were equals. I loved that.

Tough as nails Margo is a police lietenant detrmined to bring down a ring of killers kidnapping women and forcing them into their sleazy porno business. While hot on their trail, she is targeted and the killers attempt to take her out by causing a fiery crash. Dash has taken an interest in Margo and manages to rescue her before the car blows. She reluctantly takes him as her partner, as the two investigate the case and each other and both discover things about each other the others did not realize.

Foster can be counted on to bring over the top sex into all her novels. This one fails because the sex becomes pretty redundant, and the secondary characters are much more interesting than the protagonists. I did not find the characters to have much chemistry, and Margo was sort of unlikable throughout most of the story. I guess my biggest complaint is that a "ball-busting cop" needed to be rescued by a civilian.

Having read the previous book in the series from an author I enjoy, I was looking forward to reading this book. The characters are interesting and the plot kept me reading to find out what happened. However, the book has simply too much ‘sensuality’ for my taste. More story and less sex would have made this a better book, in my opinion and more in line with the other book in the series.

Read It File It Review: Dash of Peril by Lori Foster was not my favorite in the series but seeing all my favorite characters made me smile! This was a tough review for me to write because most of this series has been spectacular for me (Rowdy's book was a rare 5 for me) but I just never connected with the love story between Dash and Margo. That happens occasionally. The writing was great (as always) and I am really looking forward to the spin-off with Cannon!

This series has been my favorite of Laurie Foster's and this one doesn't disappoint. I absolutely adore how accepting Dash is of every aspect of Margo and how Margo learns how to let loose around the people she realizes care about her. There is a lot of sexual chemistry, but somehow that doesn't detract from learning everything about the characters. Once again, a win for Foster. Lori Foster hit it out of the park with this story! Interesting characters, a story that has been building, a love that has been building and then ignites into a blaze. If you have liked this series, you will LOVE this story as the conclusion. Thank you Lori for another great book.

I loved this story. It was very sweet to read about a man who didn't find his woman's strengths a weakness to himself. I also loved that Margo could show her soft side without out Dash seeing her as week. A VERY HOT READ!! Thank u Lori Foster for another book that pulled me in!!!

Pretty much par for the course with the previous books in the series... though I'd had hopes being a lieutenant the heroine would have more spunk... which she did... but overall same old story of a delusional "alpha" male trying to make her act all feminine and submissive despite her nature... and her mostly giving in to it.

I loved this book as much as the other boos I have read by Lori foster all of them kept me on the edge and I couldn't wait to see the happy ending. I am glad that Margo finally let loose and with dash I think they made one of the most exciting couples of all.

I have always loved Lori Foster books and have read just about everyone published. This one has just too much sex and innuendo and not enough real story. I was sorry for that because I was really looking forward to reading this book. It seems to be a current problem with many of our favorite authors these days....they are forgetting that nothing really replaces a good story. This will not stop me from reading more of Lori Foster books, but I hope the author takes note and remembers that she really is a very good author. If the genre I perceived is what you like in your books in every chapter, then by all means read and enjoy. For me it was over the top.

I love the Love Undercover series, but didn't think that this was the best in the series. I loved Rowdy and Reese and was glad to see them make appearances. I would have liked to see more of Cannon and Yvette and can't wait for their book that comes out this fall.
